FINANCIAL AID PROCESS FAFSA: STEPS TO APPLY

WASFA: STEPS TO APPLY

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) helps you determine what financial awards, grants, and loans you can receive.

Washington State offers financial aid programs to students who aren’t eligible for federal financial aid because of immigration status, sometimes called DREAMers. Complete the WASFA at readysetgrad.org/wasfa

You should have a high school diploma or GED to be eligible. If you’re a male not currently on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, you must register with the Selective Service System before age 26 to be eligible. Learn more at sss.gov 1. Create a Federal Student Aid Identification (FSA ID) at fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm This will create an e-signature which you will use to submit your FAFSA. If you are under 24 years old, one of your parents must also create one and use it to co-sign your FAFSA. 2. Submit the FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov

FA deadline __________

Submit as soon as possible starting Oct. 1 for the following year. Deadline is approx. 3-4 months before classes begin. See reverse for upcoming quarterly deadlines. Include SPSCC, school code 005372, in your list of up to 10 schools on your FAFSA. Tip: Using the Data Retrieval Tool for your tax information decreases your chances of being selected for verification later - learn more at studentaid.gov 3. Look for a confirmation email from FAFSA within 3-5 business days. In the email is your Student Aid Report (SAR) which identifies errors and if you’re selected for verification. To correct errors, log into your FAFSA, fix them, and resubmit prior to the deadline on reverse. Call 1-800-4-FEDAID if you need your SAR re-sent. 4. Check FA Portal (Financial Aid Portal) for your complete award details, errors, and missing or required documents over the next few weeks at fas.ctc.edu/portal6/?col=240 U SERNAME = Your Social Security Number (XXXXXXXXX) PASSWORD = Your Birthday (MMDDYY) About 30% of students are selected for verification and must submit additional paperwork to the college. Once financial aid is awarded, log in to the FA portal to accept or reject your award. Tip: Don’t wait! Complete all steps for FAFSA/financial aid before the deadline!

Tip: Not sure which form is for you (FAFSA or WASFA)? Visit readysetgrad.org/WASFAelig to find out.
