CHARLOTTE & CLAYTON ROBERTS
FIGURE EIGHT ISLAND | 4.27.24
For Charlotte and Clayton, the focus of their Figure Eight Island wedding was the ceremony and celebrating with friends and family. “My biggest priority when planning the wedding was making sure it was an easy and fun experience for our guests,” says Charlotte. “We really wanted it to feel like a vacation for everyone.”
Growing up in the Queen City, Charlotte spent her summer vacations on the island — once she and Clayton began dating, they began making memories there, too. The couple met through mutual friends after college, with their first date on the rooftop of Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails in South End. “I vividly remember talking for so long that the restaurant closed while we were there,” Charlotte says. “We haven’t gone a day without talking since that night!”
“Tastefully striking” was the mood Charlotte kept in mind as she made her wedding choices. A fan of neutrals and adding texture and florals for detail, Charlotte initially considered all-white flowers but opted for more color at the reception on the advice of planner Ivy Robinson.
Dinner was served on one side of the tent, with the reception
area and dance floor hidden from view. During the couple’s first dance after dinner, the drapes opened to reveal the rest of the space. “The dinner side of the tent was vibrant, featuring bright spring colors and a fabric-draped ceiling, while the dance side had a clear top and neutral tones, offering a more ethereal feel,” Robinson says. “It was two completely different experiences under one tent.”
Patterns from the invitations were reflected in custom chandeliers and on the dance floor. On-site artists took photos of each wedding guest upon arrival, painting their portraits as party favors. Charlotte and Clayton skipped some traditional moments like speeches (they were done at the rehearsal dinner), cake cutting (they did this while guests ate dinner) and the bouquet toss, preferring more time with guests.
Charlotte’s favorite moments? A getting-ready robe her mom had made from her own wedding dress, the stunning flowers and a celebration with those who meant the most to her and Clayton. “Looking around during the height of the reception and seeing everyone we know and love in one place… I’ll hold that memory close for a long time.”

Summit splendor
ISABELLE & DREW BOYD JEFFERSON | 7.20.24
Isabelle and Drew always thought they would elope to a beautiful place where they could explore and be surrounded by nature. But after their engagement, Drew had second thoughts. “He really wanted a big, impactful day with friends and family and to see me in a white dress,” Isabelle says.
A visit to Summit on Cross Mountain in Jefferson solidified the decision to change course.
The Charlotte couple — who met as sophomores at N.C. State University — got engaged during a hike in Asheville and often spent weekends in West Jefferson and other mountain towns. “The venue is stunning,” Isabelle says. “We were excited to show our friends and family from all over how special the town is and all our favorite spots.”
Isabelle and her mom Tori, an interior designer, took charge of the planning for the modern, romantic celebration filled with pops of peach, pink and coral and sunny mountain florals. Isabelle’s dress, with its long train and flowy vibe, felt just right. “It was perfect for the mountains and had tiny little Swiss dots and netted fabric that I knew my textile-engineer husband
would love and find unique. I loved how different it was and felt so much like me.”
Drew’s dad served as officiant for the mountainside ceremony. Thirty minutes before, the skies turned dark and stormy, but blue skies prevailed. At the reception, specialty cocktails included Isabelle’s Passion Fizz — modeled after one of the couple’s favorite drinks from Charlotte restaurant Yunta — and Drew’s Transfusion, a frequent libation on beach vacations. A seating chart featured acrylic flowers hung from an arbor. Instead of a traditional cake, guests savored a selection of blueberry crumble cheesecake trifle, creme brulee and dark chocolate espresso pots de crème.
The couple honeymooned at Nayara Tented Camp in Arenal National Park, Costa Rica — a destination similar to the one they had originally envisioned for their elopement. A blend of luxury and nature, they experienced firsthand views of sloths, monkeys, birds and butterflies followed by a few days at the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo. “We love nature, hiking and wildlife,” Isabelle says. “We had an incredible time.”

Sun, sand and tropical bliss await honeymooners at this sparkling Caribbean all-inclusive resort.
by Michael J. Solender
When the romantic energy shifts from the “I do” celebration to the joy-filled honeymoon, many sun-seeking Charlotte couples set their sights on the Caribbean.
At Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, nestled in the breezy Lesser Antilles, couples find romantic seclusion where beachside lounging, spa pampering, exquisite dining and island adventures make newlyweds feel as if they’re still slow dancing at their reception.
Saint Vincent, the largest in a loosely connected necklace of 32 Caribbean islands that form the Grenadines, is home to Sandals’ newest all-inclusive retreat. The resort hugs a
crescent-shaped beach along the island’s southwestern shore, bisected by the meandering Vermont River. Guests are treated to breathtaking views of volcanic mountains and a subtle reminder of the active La Soufrière volcano, which last erupted in 2021.
Disney Studios chose Saint Vincent as the backdrop for its blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films, drawn by the island’s lush rainforests, cerulean seas and topaz-hued skies.
Opened in March 2024, the resort strikes a balance between intimacy — with its 301 suites spread across more than 50 acres — and opportunities to connect with fellow travelers.
Billed as “Sandals 2.0,” the adults-only luxury property
features activities and dining experiences designed to foster a sense of community. One highlight is Buccan, a traditional “Vincy” familystyle dining experience. But for couples craving uninterrupted “just us” time, there’s plenty of space for that, too.
At Sandals, romance is always the specialty. Here’s what newlyweds can look forward to.
ACCOMMODATIONS
With 15 room categories, honeymooners can choose the amenities and features that suit them best. All accommodations include airport transfers.
Prepare to be pampered — even the most modest Bamboo Palm rooms offer soaking tubs, pool and garden views from a private balcony with a cozy daybed lounger, and a spacious 580-square-foot layout. Guests also enjoy a fully stocked complimentary mini-bar (juice, beer, wine, sodas) and a walk-in rain shower.
Room options progress from swim-up suites, where patios open directly into a large pool, to private pool suites, villa suites, private villas and the ultimate indulgence — over-the-water villas.
The Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villas are a dream for couples,
perched on a private stretch of Sandals Cove. These luxurious retreats feature private swim and sun decks, a telescope for stargazing, his-and-her vanities, a double rain shower, a soaking tub, and a premium stocked bar with liquor, beer and wine. Guests can also enjoy in-room dining, all within 1,250 square feet of contemporary Caribbean elegance.
THE BUTLER DOES IT
The over-the-water villas (along with select premium rooms) come with Sandals’ Butler Elite service.
Sandals butlers are available throughout the day to ensure couples experience the best of the resort. Breakfast in bed? Check. Afternoon cocktails? Absolutely. A private beach cabana with a stocked cooler? Done. A romantic candlelit dinner on the patio, complete with chocolate-dipped strawberries, roses and scented candles? The butler can arrange it all.
Premium Butler Elite rooms also receive special marine transfers — think a comfy cabin cruiser — to and from the airport. There’s even an on-site photography and video team available to document couples’ entire vacations, all coordinated by the butler.

WEDDING TRAVEL
DINING
Sandals kitchens work overtime to satisfy hungry — and thirsty — guests. With a dozen restaurants offering culinary choices ranging from Caribbean and Italian to Japanese and just-caught seafood, there’s something for everyone. Favorites include:
Gatsu Gatsu (“devouring food with gusto”) – This Japanese Izakaya-style eatery delivers a wide range of sushi, hand rolls, Robatagrilled chicken, beef and fish, as well as tempura and ramen. A creative cocktail list features standouts like a ginger-infused sidecar and sakebased martinis.
Buccan – This Vincy-themed restaurant brings local ingredients and flavorful herbs and spices to the open fire, serving up flavorful curries, stews, seafood and grilled vegetables that embody the island’s culture.
Scrimshaw – Treasures from the surrounding waters take center stage here, with Caribbean lobster, local red snapper and wild-caught shrimp among the everyday delicacies.
Jerk Shack – Ya mon, this casual eatery serves authentic Jamaicaninspired jerk chicken, fish and pork, roasted sweet potatoes, and Jamaican stew peas. Pair with a cold local Hairoun beer for the full experience.
Nine bars and lounges offer premium libations. Two specialty coffee venues — Blum and Crema — stand out with Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, fresh-baked sweet treats and ice cream.
At Three Jewels Rum Bar, guests can savor a range of Caribbean
Sandals Red Lane Spa
Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villas
rums, including the local (and famously potent) Sunset Rum, an 84+-proof spirit meant to be sipped with caution.
ACTIVITIES & NIGHTLIFE
Water sports range from scuba diving, snorkeling, wakeboarding and water skiing to kayaking and paddleboarding. Land-based activities include beach volleyball, croquet, bocce ball, pickleball, shuffleboard and staff-led garden tours.
For adventure seekers, excursions can be arranged to visit the nearby Pirates of the Caribbean film set, embark on a La Soufrière volcano sunset cruise, go whale and dolphin watching, explore Dark View Falls and the Historical West Coast, or island-hop to Mustique and Bequia. Hiking, cycling and botanical-garden tours are also available.
At Sandals Red Lane Spa, couples can indulge in treatments like the Night Blooming Jasmine Massage and the Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, along with a full range of facials and specialty services designed to make couples glow.
The nights come alive with live music, both al fresco and in various dining venues, featuring everything from soft rock to steel bands — and even the occasional guest-driven karaoke session.
GETTING THERE: American Airlines offers direct, nonstop flights from Charlotte to Saint Vincent weekly, as well as more frequent connections through Miami.
DESTINATION WEDDINGS: SANDALS SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
Jenna Samuel, the resort’s manager of love and romance (yes, really), shares that over 65 destination weddings have taken place here since the offering began in May 2024.
“Couples choose the resort for the ease of the wedding process and the beauty of our island,” Samuel says. “It feels like walking through a tropical paradise — a miniature Jurassic Park — with mountains, white sand beaches and everything you dream of capturing in your wedding photos.”
“The documentation process is very easy,” she adds. “We have an online system where you simply send your documents to our pre-travel team 30 to 60 days in advance. Our team will start the online process and connect you with a planner to handle the paperwork and customize your wedding details. Then, our resort team takes care of the execution, ensuring your big day is flawless.”

Happily ever Charlotte
Curate a registry that’s full of local charm and lasting memories.
by Amanda Lea
Awedding registry should be as unique as your love story. For Charlotte couples, it’s a chance to celebrate their Queen City roots and incorporate experiences that reflect their lifestyle.
Modern couples are moving beyond a list of housewares, opting for gifts that elevate their homes, spark adventures and showcase their personalities. “Today’s couples want more than kitchen appliances; they’re looking for experiences, art and items that represent our region’s creative pulse,” says Lauren Garrett, bridal manager at Elizabeth Bruns.
Couples also want plenty of options, with many focused on fun, unique items to use when hosting guests, according to John Dabbs Ltd.’s Ginny Touma. “Everyone wants to entertain at home with fun
tablescapes that are full of bright colorful linens, chargers, colored-glass stemware, and candlesticks of varying heights and shapes,” she says. “Tables can be fun and playful — mixing patterns and not sticking to the rules.”
Experts at Bedside Manor note that many couples are marrying later, which can mean combining two well-established homes. Instead of starting from scratch, they’re blending their lives and styles to create a space that feels uniquely theirs. With their wealth of experiences — whether it’s travel, career success or personal growth — they’re using registries as a way to upgrade their homes with meaningful, elevated choices that reflect their shared journey.

CRAFTING THE PERFECT WEDDING REGISTRY
Creating a registry that reflects your story as a couple takes a little planning and intentionality. Follow these guidelines to build a thoughtful, well-rounded list that balances practicality and personality.
DO:
• Start early: Set up your registry at least six months before your big day or first wedding event. This gives guests time to plan, and you can include it on your wedding website. Experts at Bedside Manor encourage couples to keep in mind that custom orders can take four to 12 weeks, so starting early helps ensure everything is ready in time.
• Tailor your tastes: Make a few visits to stores that carry items you’re interested in before making decisions, advises the John Dabbs team. “It can be overwhelming at first,” Touma says. “Get some ideas of what your style is.”
• Strike a balance: Include a mix of entertaining essentials, practical items and unique experiences. “When building your registry, it’s nice to include items that pair old and new, complementing pieces passed down from family,” adds Lauren Garrett, bridal manager at Elizabeth Bruns.
• Think beyond tradition: Staples like kitchenware and dinnerware remain popular, but Charlotte couples are embracing experience-based gifts like cooking classes, wine subscriptions and outdoor adventures. The pros at Bedside Manor say gift cards also offer flexibility for guests.
• Keep events in mind: Consider any showers that are planned and select an array of gifts that are appropriate for the theme.
• Communicate clearly: Make your registry link easily accessible through your wedding website. This small step prevents confusion and ensures a smooth gifting process.
DON’T:
• Have limited options: Make sure to include items across a range of price points so all guests feel comfortable contributing.
• Follow fleeting trends: While trendy items might seem exciting now, opt for pieces and experiences that will remain relevant long term.
• Neglect to update: Regularly monitor and update your registry as gifts are purchased to keep the list accurate.
• Skip group gifts: Larger-ticket items are more accessible when guests can pool their contributions. W

COLORFUL & CLASSIC
COOPER & JORDAN
SEASE
For their celebration, Cooper and Jordan envisioned a fun, classic wedding — one that reflected their personalities and included thoughtful touches. “I wanted to be sure everything had a meaning behind it,” says Cooper, who met Jordan on a blind date arranged by friends.
She and her bridesmaids got ready for the big day at her family’s home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, taking first-look and wedding photos in the backyard. The couple’s traditional Episcopal service, officiated by Cooper’s childhood priest, featured music chosen by her and her dad, along with a full choir. A niece and two of Cooper’s best friends’ children served as flower girls and ring bearers.
The reception was at McBryde Hall at Winthrop University, the couple’s alma mater. “We wanted it to be different from a tented venue, and we worried about the weather when having an outside wedding,” Cooper says. “McBryde Hall had a special meaning to us, and I knew it had a lot of potential… it has an Old World feeling with a touch of grandness to it.”
Cooper loves design and décor, so the party showcased a rainbow of florals, fun combinations of linens, patterns and textures, and varied furniture styles. Floral wreaths and flower boxes adorned the front steps of the hall, and a pianist at a baby grand piano surrounded by lush trees welcomed guests. Artwork from custom save-the-dates — featuring strawberries for Cooper’s hometown of Fort Mill, Carolina Jasmine for the couple’s Carolina roots and a bug for Cooper’s golden retriever ‘Bug’ — was used on the bar panels, napkins, signage and cups.
During cocktail hour, Champagne, aperol spritz cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were passed, including ham biscuits — a staple served by Cooper’s grandmother. Guests enjoyed a carving station, pizza/flatbreads, shrimp cocktail, hibachi and a late-night snack of mini corndogs and french fries. A live painter — a surprise from Cooper’s parents — captured the couple’s first dance, and light-up cowboy hats on the dance floor kept the party going. “I would not change anything,” Cooper says. “My advice to future brides is to enjoy every minute of the day.”

GORGEOUS & GRAND
KOMAL MATHUR & PRANAV TRIVEDI
She’s bubbly, spontaneous and an extrovert. He’s calm, grounded and an introvert. But when Komal moved from North Carolina to New York City for a marketing job, her cousin and a friend felt she and Pranav might be a match. The two eventually connected, meeting at a bar on the waterfront and soon falling in love.
To propose, Pranav, a clinical pharmacist, rented an art gallery in Chelsea, creating an exhibit of special moments the couple had shared. “I wanted to use Komal’s passion for art,” he says. “I set up easels with our photos on canvases, and accompanying those were letter scrolls of what those moments meant to me and for our relationship. At the last easel the canvas said ‘Our next chapter,’ and I read a letter to Komal finally asking her to marry me.”
Charlotte was an ideal wedding location to bring both families traveling from the East Coast together. Visits during the planning process for the couple were easy, since Komal’s parents live in the Queen City (she attended Myers Park High School). The Grand Bohemian Charlotte was the perfect choice for the ceremony and reception. “When we found the Grand Bohemian, we were ecstatic to find that not only is it a gorgeous hotel, but it had a focus on art which brought us full circle to our proposal’s theme,” Komal says. “Our main priority wasn’t the external details of the wedding but being able to have our closest family and friends there with us and creating an atmosphere of utmost love to share with them.”
The joyous Indian celebration included a welcome party at Hi-Wire Brewing and pre-wedding rituals such as the haldi, mehndi and baraat, the groom’s wedding processional. The couple opted not to do a first look, preferring to wait to see each other at the mandap (altar). They chose an Italian theme for the reception — a nod to their favorite cuisine and their Italian honeymoon — and gave guests bottles of rosemary-infused olive oil as favors. Relatives entertained the couple with special toasts and surprise choreographed performances. “When you’re planning, you can get consumed by the logistics, but when all of your loved ones are in one place, the happiness and joy are magnanimous,” Komal says. “Things may go wrong, but it’s the energy, happiness and love all around you that you’ll remember most.”

PINK PERFECTION
EMMA GRACE & BLAKE KRAUSE
The first time Blake played golf with his future father-in-law at Myers Park Country Club, he hit a hole in one, celebrating with a round of Ranch Water — a nod to his Texas roots. Fast forward a few years later, and he and bride Emma Grace found themselves back at the lucky venue, toasting to a lifetime of happiness.
“It was a dream come true,” says Emma Grace, who grew up in Charlotte and wanted an outdoor reception. “The golf course looked so beautiful in the background and the tent was so fun.” Planner Katrina Hutchins brought Emma Grace’s passion for pink and a beachy, colorful vibe to life at the reception. Striking rattan light fixtures, a bamboo-patterned dance floor and a tent trimmed with a pink-and-white dentil-molding valance added touches of whimsy.
The celebration kicked off with a music-themed welcome party at Charlotte Country Club. Blake, an employee benefits broker, plays in a band in the couple’s home of Dallas. Instead of a traditional bridesmaids’ luncheon, Emma Grace and the bridal party hit the pickleball courts, enjoying some friendly competition, mimosas and light bites. “It was exactly what I needed the day before getting married,” she says. “It was great to be moving around and having a great time with my best friends.”
The couple, who met during Emma Grace’s senior year of college, chose buffet-style stations for their reception and a few curated dishes to reflect their style: a “Low Country Boil and Grits” served in martini glasses for the beach wedding they once considered and “Javier’s One Bite Nachos,” a salute to a favorite Dallas restaurant.
During the reception, Emma Grace wore her mom’s shortened, revamped wedding gown and guests sipped on a few of her dad Lamar’s specialty drinks he often serves up at home at “Bar Lamar.” Hats for Blake’s alma mater, the University of Georgia, and Emma Grace’s, the University of Alabama, made for a spirited dance floor. Before saying their goodbyes, the couple celebrated with one last toast — an espresso martini shooter to “cap off the perfect night.”

Alexis and DJ met on the tennis court at Clemson University, where both played club tennis. Their chemistry on the court led to a close friendship off it, and the two eventually began dating after DJ graduated and during Alexis’ senior year.
The couple navigated several years of long-distance dating, with Alexis working in Raleigh and DJ in Charlotte. A career change brought Alexis, now in commercial real estate, to the Queen City in spring 2019. During a trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate Alexis’ birthday, DJ asked Alexis to be his wife, and doubles partner for life.
Their venue, the picturesque Duke Mansion, reminded Alexis of her parents’ wedding in her grandmother’s backyard. “I always enjoyed seeing the photos with the green, luscious lawn and classic look,” she says. Having a place for family to stay on the property was also a plus. Alexis grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and DJ is from Stratford, Connecticut.
Priorities for the couple’s celebration included a quick, 15-minute ceremony, their own vows and an entertaining party. “We did all of our family pictures before so we could go to our own cocktail hour and have fun,” Alexis says.
Planner Sarah Cook incorporated a tennis theme throughout the reception. “We are serving” tennis racket bar signs featured a choice of espresso martinis or watermelon margaritas. Guests found their “court” and seat assignments on a display made with wooden rackets. “Game, set, match” matchbooks made for a fun favor. “Alexis and DJ were so fun to work with,” Cook says. “Alexis had a beautiful vision and wasn’t afraid of color and personal details, so we had a good time.”
Growing up, party poppers were a tradition at family gatherings and holidays at Alexis’ home. At the reception, each place setting featured personalized poppers. After dinner, guests opened them to reveal paper crowns, which they wore while dancing. For her time on the dance floor and exit, Alexis wore a gold-and-blue floral set trimmed in feathers, white sunglasses and feather earrings. “I wanted to do something different instead of a mini white dress.”

Suzy and Andy met when she was viewing a house for her boss who was moving to Charlotte. Andy was the real estate agent. They hit it off, but it took Andy two weeks to work up the nerve to ask Suzy out. A little over a year later, Andy surprised her with a proposal at the Charlotte City Club.
The couple wanted their June wedding at Quail Hollow Club to be timeless, elegant and memorable, with delicious food, good drinks and a festive atmosphere. “We chose Quail Hollow because it is the most quintessential venue for Southern elegance,” Suzy says. “It is a beautiful venue on its own, so not much was needed in order to bring our vision to life.”
Their Jewish celebration included the signing of the ketubah (marriage contract), followed by an outdoor ceremony with Suzy and Andy, their parents and officiant under a chuppah (wedding canopy) draped in pastel flowers and baby’s breath. The couple’s siblings read the traditional Seven Blessings (sheva brachot). At the reception, they surprised guests with a cigar-and-bourbon (Andy is an avid collector) bar and served french fries and sliders for a late-night snack.

“Our biggest priority was making sure that the wedding felt right for us,” says Leanna of her uptown wedding to Gerald. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t get caught up in fads or get lost in all the social media ideas… our vision for the day was classic, stress-free and fun.”
Lively music and good food were important to the couple, who kept the celebration intimate. “The day was really family-focused and close-knit,” says Leanna, a family and sports medicine physician at Atrium Health. Leanna’s brother served as officiant; Gerald’s brother was best man; and his nephew was ring bearer. Readings were done by Gerald’s sister and Leanna’s uncle.
Gerald, a mental-health therapist, was born in Haiti and moved to Philadelphia when he was 7. During the reception, he and Leanna stepped away to video chat with Gerald’s mom, who still lives in Haiti. Other special moments for the couple included some private time together before the reception, their first look and sharing of private vows, golden hour photos, and dancing.

Camille & Ben Buben
6.22.24
Charlotte natives Camille and Ben met at Providence Day School and started dating in 10th grade, after Camille asked Ben to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Ten years later, they married at Camille’s longtime church, Dilworth United Methodist. Their reception was at Carmel Country Club, a place special to Ben, an avid golfer and former player at UNC Greensboro.
“Our vision while planning the wedding was to have a joyful day filled with our loved ones at two venues in Charlotte that mean a lot to our families,” Camille says. As they began the process, wedding planner Sarah Beth Thie suggested the couple come up with key words for the celebration. “The words we selected were classic, creative with a twist, joyful and laughter-filled. I think these words shined through on our wedding day, along with lots and lots of happy tears.”
For her something old, new and borrowed, Camille wore a pearl bracelet made from her grandmother’s necklace (a surprise from her mom) and Ben’s greatgrandmother’s ring (Ben’s mom also wore it on her wedding day). A locket with a blue flower and a photo of Camille and her grandmother inside — a gift from her aunt passed down several generations — was attached to the wedding bouquet for her something blue. “Family is very important to us, so these items were really special and grounding to me on our wedding day,” Camille says.

Hailee & Alston Bridges
When Hailee and Alston visited North Corner Haven, the 600-acre venue checked all the boxes — most notably, the versatility of its spaces. “We were able to have an indoor ceremony in their beautiful cedar barn and guests could enjoy cocktail hour in the courtyard with a large built-in bar and a scenic reception on the lawn under a tent,” Hailee says. “It truly gave us the best of indoor and outdoor space.” Getting ready for the ceremony was also easy and fun at the cottages on-site, with plenty of room and a customized menu for snacking.
The spring season and the couple’s wedding invitation suite inspired the celebration’s cheery color palette — from pale pinks to sky blues, with pops of coral, lavender and yellow — and was reflected in the vibrant florals, lively linens and patterned tableware. Bouquets were designed to complement the bridesmaids’ colorful array of dresses. “Our wedding planner Madison incorporated colors and patterns in such a beautiful way for our reception space,” Hailee adds. “That made it so unique to us and our special day.”

Alicia & Brandon Cosey
11.9.24
Alicia and Brandon’s paths first crossed in a marketing course at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. A friendship blossomed into a romance, and the two continued to date post-graduation. Alicia — a business-development manager at an engineering-services firm — returned home to Charlotte, while Brandon pursued his master’s degree in Tennessee. In 2021, he moved to the Queen City, proposing to Alicia on the white sand beaches of Tulum, Mexico, in spring 2023.
For their wedding, Alicia envisioned a ceremony overlooking the 18th hole and a garden party, with guests enjoying scenic views of Quail Hollow Club’s back patio, the classic ambience of its ballroom and its outstanding service and food. “I wanted to take advantage of our location and weather and allow our guests to be outside as much as possible,” she says. During cocktail hour, a jazz saxophonist played Kenny G and Stevie Wonder tunes and his-and-her cocktails featured spicy margaritas and aperol spritzes. A favorite moment for the couple was sharing private vows in the garden before the ceremony.

For Emily and Alex, their wedding centered around celebrating with the people they love most. A longtime family friend and pastor married the couple — who met as sophomores at UNC Chapel Hill — at Belk Chapel. Alex wore a custom suit with ram cuff links for their alma mater, and Emily wore her sister’s wedding earrings. “It was a beautiful ceremony,” says Emily, a Charlotte native. “Personal and pointed toward Christ — just how we wanted.”
The reception was at Carmel Country Club, where Emily’s family has been members for over 20 years. The flowers — dahlias are a favorite — were an important detail to the bride, who wanted to incorporate plenty of color.
“Essentially I wanted the flowers to reflect the mood of the day: happy, joyful and fun.”
The couple opted for Brick Street Cafe’s sweet potato cake for dessert — a staple at special occasions for Emily’s family — and ended the evening with warm doughnuts from Milkbread, one of their favorite Queen City treats. “We had so many compliments on those little details, and it was sweet to share something we love so much with our guests.”
