Our Comittment to Christian Faith
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are verbally-inspired by God, wherein
He reveals Himself to humankind, reveals His will and ways for all men and women; and which are of supreme and final authority in faith, life, and standards of education.
Our
History
SouthLake Christian has a rich history of providing quality education to students. Established in 1994, our institution has been committed to nurturing young minds and preparing them for a successful future. Over the years, we have evolved into a leading educational institution known for our academic excellence and holistic approach to education.
The founders of the school were members of SouthLake Presbyterian Church who intended for SouthLake to prepare students for college and to proclaim Christ while welcoming students of all faiths. With rented facilities from Huntersville First Baptist Church, the school opened in the fall of 1994 with 23 students, three teachers in combined classes that included kindergarten through fourth grade and a voluntary principal, Debbie Hix. SouthLake stands as a tribute to those people who understood and obeyed God’s calling for a Christian school in the Lake Norman area. Based on enrollment increases, God has been pleased with the outcome.
Today, SouthLake Christian enrolls more than 650+ students in JK through 12th grade and its commitment to rigorous college preparation in a Christ-centered environment is stronger than ever. As SouthLake Christian approaches its third decade of service to the community, we know that our board members, administrators, teachers, coaches, parents, and community partners each have a vested interest in a strong future for the school. and represents our best efforts to capture both God’s direction and the collective wisdom of our community.
OUR ALLEGIANCE

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior for whose Kindgdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe.

Places to go and things to do
In the spotlight
Arts
SouthLake Christian Academy holds the belief that a comprehensive education must include Fine Arts instruction. We motivate our students to actively participate in the arts, fostering their creative talents and enhancing their appreciation for drama, music, graphic design, and visual arts. Whether they are mastering the intricate art of photography or embodying a character on stage, our students discover various avenues to express their artistic abilities.
Most significantly, the creative journey reveals beauty—beauty captured in a drawing, beauty emerging from instruments harmonizing together, or the beauty inherent in the human voice and form.

Art and music are integral parts of our curriculum starting from junior kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade. Students attend both art and music classes weekly and showcase their talents in Christmas and year-end performances.
In upper school, students have the option to select from an array of Fine Arts electives to fulfill their graduation requirements. They also have opportunities to participate in the annual drama production, choir, orchestra, concert band, and ACSI Fine Arts competitions. Our high school drama production annually features musical performances.

Visit southlakechristian.org/finearts to view the calendar of art exhibitions and performing arts events.

UNLEASH YOUR ARTISTIC POTENTIAL AND DEEPEN YOUR FAITH WITH SOUTHLAKE CHRISTIAN’S FINE ARTS PROGRAM!
SouthLake Christian’s Fine Arts Program is a beacon of light for young artists. It offers a rare blend of artistic excellence and spiritual depth, making it an ideal place for students who want to pursue their passion for the arts while growing in their faith. This program is not just about creating great artists; it’s about shaping the hearts and minds of young people to make a meaningful impact in the world through their creativity.
Dive right in
Athletics
SouthLake Christian students are known as strong competitors; whether they are first-time participants who are learning new skills in one of our 14 different programs on the middle/upper school level or seasoned players who are aiming to win a state championship for one of our ten varsity teams.
At SouthLake Christian, we view athletics as a unique opportunity to teach self-discipline, teamwork, obedience, compassion and Christ-like character on the field of competition. The athletic program seeks to develop these spiritual characteristics while also training the physical body in a competitive
environment. Our foremost desire is to glorify God and share Christ in the way we compete on the field.
We provide opportunities for all students to participate, and this openness is one reason athletics is a core component of SouthLake Christian culture. In a typical academic year, 80% of middle school students and 75% of upper school students participate in at least one sport. This allows the students to obtain a Health & Physical Education credit in upper school; students require one credit to meet the graduate requirement.

For the latest news, videos and live athletics games, check out southlakechristian.org/athletics

A communitythat cares
Academic Mission Trips
SouthLake Christian’s Missions & Service program offers students a well-rounded education with diverse cultural learning opportunities. We host mission trips where students interact with locals and learn about their customs, beliefs, history, art, politics, social issues, and daily life. Trips include destinations like Costa Rica/Panama for Spanish language immersion, and Scotland/Ireland for exploration of Celtic and Gaelic history. The program varies yearly and has previously included locations like the Mediterranean Coast, Italy, Iceland, Israel, and Puerto Rico.
Spiritual Retreats
Annual spiritual retreats are organized for lower, middle, and upper school students to nurture their spirituality and interpersonal relationships. Middle and upper school students participate in a two-day retreat at Windy Gap in NC, engaging in morning and evening chapel, class competitions, and free time. This event, promoting bonding and spiritual growth, is a highly awaited highlight each school year.
Missions Week
Mission Week stands out as a significant event at SouthLake Christian. Each spring, the school unites for chapel services dedicated to a mission-related topic. The key aim is to enlighten our students about mission work worldwide and subsequently secure their involvement and support.
Learn and Serve Week
SouthLake Christian’s mission goes beyond academics, emphasizing personal growth and societal responsibility. Our Learn and Serve Week embodies this philosophy, allowing students to leave the classroom and directly engage with community projects. These experiences, addressing real-world issues, enrich students’ understanding of societal needs while fostering civic duty and empathy.
Student Mission Fellowship
SouthLake Christians’ Student Mission Fellowship teaches students the joy of selflessly serving others in the name of Jesus Christ. Community service projects are available each year in partnership with local organizations. SMF has supported Samaritan’s Purse with Operation Christmas Child, Caterpillar Ministries providing academic enrichment and faith development to children, Hoops for Hope to support Access 2 Success (A2S) programs in Nigeria to provide sustainable resources for Nigerian Children and their families, and coordinates.
