The Youth Employment Service of Southington Youth Services has a willing and interested crop of young people, 14 to 16 years of age, for all summer yard care needs as well as house cleaning and babysitting. AARP trip

The Southington Apple Valley Chapter of AARP, No. 4943, is opening its New York trip to the public. On Thursday, Sept. 13, the trip will be to the national 9-11 memorial in New York City. Wilcox THS car show The Wilcox Technical High School Gridiron Club, Meriden, will be hosting its seventh annual car show at the Southington Drive-In, 935 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a cost to attend. ‘People and Places’

Tunxis seeks vendors Tunxis Community College, at the junction of Routes 6 and 177, Farmington, is seeking vendors for its Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Rain date is Oct. 7. Food and craft vendors can reserve a 10-by-10foot booth for a fee and a donation of 10 percent of their festival earnings to Tunxis. Proceeds from the event will support Tunxis student community service projects that help underserved populations. The festival will be held in the college’s courtyard. String players needed

The Cheshire Symphony Orchestra is looking for viola, violin and string bass players who are able to play advanced repertoire. Orchestral experience is preferred but not required. The orchestra is composed of students and professionals. The musicians come from Cheshire and many surrounding communities and volunteer their efforts to work with a professional conductor on challenging and assessable programming. Rehearsals are held Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Dodd Middle School in Cheshire. Rehearsals will start on Sept. 10 for the 201213 season. Women and Girl’s Fund

The Women and Girls’ Fund of Main Street Community Foundation is accepting grant applications.
