Scarpa Shoda reunion — The Gang Scarpa Shoda, which means “shoes untied” in Italian, will gather again for its 30th reunion Sunday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Woodtick Recreation Center on Nicholas Road in Wolcott. There is a fee to attend and it should be paid by Tuesday, July 20. Male descendants (30 years of age or older) of members are eligible to attend providing the fee is paid. Brave the Pirate Seas — St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, will be having a Vacation Bible School, “Brave the Pirate Seas,” Monday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m. to noon. Rainforest adventure — Faith Baptist Church, 243 Laning St., will be having a Vacation Bible School based on the rainforest Monday, Aug. 2 to Friday, Aug. 6, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday
Kids summer entertainment — The Southington Recreation Department presents, “Kids Summer Entertainment Series” which will be held on Tuesdays from 6
to 8 p.m. at the Southington Recreation Park, (gazebo in the pine grove), South End Road. The show for Aug. 3: Zach Ivins, Jim Harkins. Shows will take place at the Derynoski School Auditorium, 240 Main St., in case of inclement weather.

Wednesday
Karaoke contest — Southington Sings “A Karaoke Contest” to benefit Southington Community Services will begin July 21 and continue every Wednesday for six weeks, 8 p.m., at Machiavelli’s Restaurant, 75 Center St. Citizens from Southington and the surrounding area are invited to compete to win a grand prize of a vacation to the St James Club Antigua. Contestants can show off their singing talents while also helping to support the community through cover charges and contestant entry fees. Each person attending will receive a Machiavelli chip for their donation that in turn will be used to receive a free drink. Signups for the competition began July 15 and winners from each week will be asked to come back for the semi finals and finals. To register, call (860) 621-4777. Music on the Green — Music on the Green is held on the town green in downtown Southington every Wednesday, weather permitting. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. Rain date is Thursday. There is also a weekly car show, organized by Al Dellafera. Concert on Aug. 4: Dennis Polisky and the Maestros Men, polka music, sponsored by The Hartford.

During the school year, John F. Kennedy Middle School Peer Advocates addressed the issue of bullying. Students spoke about the risks of bullying and the different interventions available within the school. Students also declared March 12 as the official day to pledge against bullying.
