Autumn Adventures Fun Days Out with the Family The Great British Beach Clean

The Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean is a week-long citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK. Litter data collected drives conservation work and also feeds into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC). This year’s Great British Beach Clean will take place between Friday 17 and Sunday 26 September.

Where Does the Underground Start?

With the Circle Line looping around Central London and other lines criss-crossing the capital and reaching into the suburbs, it seems an odd question to ask where the Underground ‘starts’? However the answer is in fact Ongar! The explanation dates back to 1972 when Ongar was selected as the reference point for all distances. The station, which was then the Eastern Terminus of the Central Line, was chosen because it was far away enough from all the other stations to ensure that no ‘negative’ distances were recorded on account of the special way that lines running south of the Central Line were measured. The station is now part of the Epping Ongar Railway. The Railway runs regular heritage steam and bus services on weekends. From 9-11 October the Railway will transform its stations to resemble Underground stops and bring in some special ‘London Transport’ vehicles. If your children love the tube, then they will love this day out – or indeed any day out on this very special steam railway. Remember to look out for the special 0.0Km post at Ongar!

On every clean the MCS ask people to run a litter survey recording all the items of rubbish they find in a 100m stretch. They use this data to campaign for real change. The MCS have seen some great results. Data has been used to make a positive impact on our ocean - including the introduction of the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling and supporting a tax on single-use plastic items. But there is still so much to do to stop the litter plaguing our beaches. To get involved this year find a Beach Clean near you, or organise your own.You can email the MCS at beachwatch@mcsuk.org or give

Lions Take to the Streets of London

The Tusk Lion Trail has hit the streets of London and other cities around the world, celebrating the magnificence of lions and raising awareness of threats facing the iconic King of Beasts. African lions are facing greater threats to their survival than ever before. With the continent’s entire population estimated to have declined by as much as 50% in the last three decades alone, there are now fewer wild lions remaining than rhinos. The trail of full size lion statues is dotted around the capital’s streets. They have been decorated by a star-studded line-up of artists from across the worlds of design, film, music, sport, theatre and comedy, each crafting their own unique pieces. Explore the full list of participating artists, follow the trail and download maps at www.tuskliontrail.com. Follow @tusk_org for the latest news and to share your snaps #TuskLionTrail.

Choosing your New School with The complete guide to open days for that all important decision.

A Pull Out and Keep Feature

Choosing your New School

Choosing your Child’s Secondary School

Choosing a secondary school may at first appear to be a daunting and complicated decision faced by parents. However it doesn’t need to be. It’s an important decision but, with so many schools to choose from and so many variables and specialisations, it can be a bit overwhelming. There are ways to make the process of finding the best school for your child easier. We have lots of ideas in this supplement as well as a table of local school websites to help you. Slick brochures and grand claims can be misleading and it is the people within a school that will have the most important impact on your child’s future. So, look beyond the website, visit, ask questions, get a sense of the school and what it stands for. Children enjoy facilities and activities but they are shaped by people and by values. The road ahead will have ups and downs and you will want to share them with people who believe in your child, who have high expectations for them and who genuinely care. Children succeed when they feel like they fit, when a school considers them as a person rather than a number or statistic and when they are allowed to reach for their individual potential. From the very first moment you set foot in the right school, you will get the feeling that they really want to get to know you and that they are just as excited about you joining their family as you are about joining them. Lots of schools will want to share their way, their philosophy, their vision, but the right ones will want to share yours. The best education is built around the child and not the other way round. Remember that you must return your application form to your local education authority by Sunday 31 October 2021.They may not accept late applications.

Choosing your New School

Burntwood School

Choosing a new school for your children can be a daunting experience. It is important to make a careful analysis of the breadth of curriculum offer, whether the school has a good record with regard to examination success and whether progression for the youngsters to Higher Education is the norm. A substantial 6th Form can offer a wider range of subjects and more flexibility of subject choice for the young person. A good school will also provide a wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities as well as excellent dance, drama and music teaching. It is important that every child is treated as an individual and that the school works in partnership with the parents to encourage the very best from the young person. At Burntwood, they encourage young women to be articulate, thoughtful individuals who are able to express their opinions whilst also being able to listen to and consider the views of others. They believe strongly that all young people should have the opportunity to study and embrace a varied curriculum that will allow them to access academic, creative and practical subjects enabling them progress to a host of world class further education establishments. Burntwood School is recognised as a Science Specialist School and has the coveted ‘Sportsmark’ and ‘Artsmark Gold’ awards. Examination results continue to be excellent at Key Stage 4 and 5. They believe that girls benefit greatly from a single sex education where they are free to develop and mature without the pressures of the presence of boys. It is also the case that girls at single sex state schools in England achieved better GCSE results than those in mixed schools.

In line with this vision, the School’s aims are: • To nurture the personal development of the individual through the cultivation of human virtues. • To provide a stimulating and challenging education to help pupils achieve independent thought and learning through Arête – happiness through excellence. • To engender a deep respect for each person as a singular and unique individual. • To enable pupils to discover their strengths and make the most of their talents in the service of their community. St Saviour’s and St Olave’s School is celebrating another fantastic set of A Level and GCSE results. Amongst the extraordinary grades students achieved, Saschay Ducran-Grant and Keziah Whittlesea both scored A*A*A*, Laura Colin and Charlotte Martin who both got A*A*A and Deborah Esan who achieved A*AA. Deborah is going on to study Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at Cambridge University. In fact, all students who wanted to attend university have been accepted at a wide variety of institutions, many of them Russell Group. Catherine May, Headteacher, told Primary Times, “I am absolutely delighted with the grades our Year 13 students have achieved this year which are quite simply stunning, and their university and apprenticeship places are exactly what they deserve. The GCSEs are also brilliant - including Elsie MacDowell, who scored nine out of nine Grade 9s!! Both sets of results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students and our staff. The quality of the work these students have produced over a sustained period of time, and in the most challenging of circumstances has been justly rewarded with these exceptional outcomes.” Deputy Headteacher Michelle Ferguson, who led students and staff through the process of teacher-assessed grades said, “Our students are ambitious, talented and tenacious. They have worked incredibly hard and deserve the excellent grades they have achieved. I am confident that they will continue to excel and fulfil their potential as they move on to the next stage of their lives. We are so proud of them and grateful to our staff and parents for working with us to support our wonderful students.”

Students at Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich have been on a journey of self-discovery through a special programme run by the organisation Strengthening Minds. The programme, set up six years ago by former teacher Steve Daniels, encourages boys to explore what makes them feel strong and powerful, how to express themselves confidently and how to take responsibility for their own actions. During ten sessions, the boys explore how they respond in different situations – covering topics such as how to identify success, the advantages of a positive mindset, self-motivation and why we all sometimes need to step outside of our comfort zones. They explore mindfulness and meditation too, and even look at body language. Every session has practical challenges, designed to encourage boys to reflect on how they manage their emotions in different ways. Our picture shows boys learning more about themselves by working on practical challenges together. “This is the start of something new,” said Tristen,Year 9. “The programme has changed how I look at life in a positive way. I don’t get annoyed as easily now and am more confident.” Max,Year 9, says he can now focus better and “listen to people for a long time. I think my mum has seen I have been more positive.” Although the programme has now finished for these boys, Steve Daniels stresses that the end of the programme is really just the start of the boys’ journey, as they take away what they have learned and apply it across their school and home lives. Visit Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich at their Open Evening on Thursday 23 September from 5-7pm or go along to one of the drop-in mornings. See their advert on this page for more details.

Making JAGS Accessible to All

James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS) has been inspiring and educating pupils for over 270 years. Educating girls is part of their DNA. The energy, the vibrancy, the friendships and the support networks at JAGS all combine to build something very special.  The students at JAGS are very bright. They love learning and they are excitingly academically curious. However, a JAGS pupil prides themselves on much more than academics, using and developing their own creative, athletic and social skills to act upon concerns for others, whilst developing their own selfconfidence and independence. The school is extremely diverse – in the broadest sense of the word. Pupils come from different backgrounds and different cultures and enjoy developing a wide range of skills from countless opportunities. JAGS strives to attract intellectually curious girls, regardless of their economic background. Their bursaries are crucial in making them accessible to everyone, not just to those whose families can afford the fees. They have their own meanstested bursary scheme for all year groups from 11+ entry upwards. Bursaries are subject to financial circumstances and can offer financial assistance for up to 100% of the fees, as well as the costs of uniform, travel, school trips and lunches. Currently, their bursaries cover well over 80% of all fees for the 130 pupils whose families receive them. Further information can be found on their website, www.jags.org.uk.

While everyone is excited about the move, and the enhanced facilities that students will enjoy, they are also determined to preserve those aspects of the school that have made it such a success in its current location. At its heart is the idea of personal growth, helping each boy to acquire the moral, intellectual and social virtues that are so important for a happy and fulfilled life, within a framework of Catholic principles. The school’s aim is to work with parents to help each boy grow into the best young man that he can become. The Cedar’s approach and size provide opportunities for leadership and service that play to an individual’s strengths while providing healthy challenge. This is supported by a unique tutorial system which creates space for a personalised programme for all-round development. The Cedars has a vibrant co-curricular life with strong sport, music and much else besides. They are looking forward to welcoming you to their open day on Saturday 9 October. Bullying Videos from The Diana Award

As over 10 million children head back to school in September, new research, commissioned by youth charity, The Diana Award, has asked young people and their parents about their experiences of bullying and the impact the events of the last year has had on their lives and social development. The survey covers a broad range of topics including how many young people and parents have experienced bullying and the impact this has had on their lives and their concerns about returning to school, cultural movements and news stories in the last year, and how this might have influenced young people. For example, the rise in conversation and news coverage around inclusivity, diversity, racism and sexism; How Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns may have impacted social development in children and young people. A host of celebrities including children’s TV presenters, sports people, actors, models and many others have filmed videos discussing their personal experiences of being bullied at school aimed at supporting today’s pupils. All videos can be viewed at http://back2school. antibullyingpro.com.

Cultural Capital at Trinity Academy

At Trinity Academy they aim to expand their pupils’ horizons and aspirations. In following the Future Academies Curriculum, pupils encounter “the best that has been thought and said”. An historical perspective gives pupils the tools to make sense of the world today. Trinity’s bespoke Beowulf textbook, for example, immerses pupils in the world of Anglo-Saxon culture and its antecedent migration history from Scandinavia. Learning about the historical and cultural context of this hierarchical society brings the literature to life. The textbook richly illustrates all the important background information so that pupils can make sense of how people thought and acted over 1000 years ago. Translating Anglo-Saxon Old English into Modern English builds vocabulary and fluency. Likewise, studying Latin from Year 7 through Key Stage 3 enables pupils to see that languages follow a set of rules that can be committed to memory. Knowing grammar terms, such as the difference between the nominative and accusative noun cases, shows pupils who is doing the action to whom and this gives them the confidence to master other challenging materials and concepts across a range of subjects. Trinity’s Future Academies Latin textbooks also build vocabulary and historical perspectives as pupils explore Roman civilisation through aspects of daily life across society. They will look at family, education, fables, and Roman entertainments such as theatre, games and, of course, gladiators. With all this cultural capital, Trinity Academy pupils are set up to engage fully in today’s society. To learn more about what a Trinity Academy education could do for your child, visit the website at www.trinity.futureacademies.org or call 020 3126 4993.

Winners of The UK’s oldest book awards The winners of this year’s CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, the UK’s oldest book awards for children and young people, have been announced. The Medals celebrate outstanding achievement in children’s writing and illustration respectively and are unique in being judged by librarians. This year, both winning books explore urban landscapes through a child’s eyes. Look Both Ways by Jason Reynolds features ten intertwining, interconnecting stories from the international bestselling author Jason Reynolds about those 15 minutes of unsupervised independence, the walk home from school. From ‘The Low Cuts’ on Placer Street stealing pocket change, to big Simeon and little Kenzi’s brotherhood bond and secret handshake on Chestnut Street, to Pia Foster’s skateboarding interrupted on Bastion Street, Look Both Ways tells the stories of twenty different kids and the lives they live. Look Both Ways is a really exciting piece of storytelling aimed at readers aged 9 and over. Publishers’ Weekly described it as, “In Reynolds’s signature style, each story rings with emotional authenticity and empathy,

and not a small amount of rib-tickling humour offsets the sometimes-bittersweet realities of the characters’ lives.” Jason Reynolds is the US National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and this is his first Carnegie Medal win. Look Both Ways is published by Knights Of at a price of £6.99 for the paperback original. Small in the City comes from multi-award winning illustrator Sydney Smith. Being small can be overwhelming in a city. People don’t see you. The loud sounds of the sirens and cyclists can be scary. And the streets are so busy it can make your brain feel like there’s too much stuff in it. But if you know where to find good hiding places, warm dryer vents that blow out hot steam that smells like summer, music to listen to or friends to say hi to, there can be comfort in the city, too. Follow the little protagonist, who knows all about what it’s like to be small in the city, as he gives his best advice for surviving there. As you turn the pages, Sydney Smith’s masterful storytelling allows you to glimpse exactly who this advice is for, leading to a powerful, heart-rending realisation... Small in the City is published by Walker Books in hardback at £12.99.

Dulwich College is one of the UK’s top independent schools for boys aged 7 to 18. It is recognised for its academic excellence, its unpretentious boys and its diverse and welcoming community. Dulwich College’s aim is to develop the natural talents and abilities of each boy, giving them the opportunity to excel in every aspect of life. The members of the teaching staff are highly experienced and passionate about their subjects, and class sizes are small with just 18 to 20 boys and smaller at A level. College facilities include brand new laboratories, a theatre, music rooms, art studios, a Sports Club and a beautiful 75 acre campus. With excellent GCSEs and A levels, boys attend top universities both in the UK and overseas. Many boys choose to work in medicine, engineering and the law, and others will take up a number of jobs not yet dreamt of in entrepreneurial, technological or cybernetic and innovative enterprises. Other boys might become professional actors, musicians, sportsmen, writers, historians and artists. Financial support of academically bright boys from all economic backgrounds is one of the College’s core values. Over 35% of boys are supported with financial awards. In the academic year 2020-21, £5m was granted in awards for Bursaries and Scholarships.

A Dulwich College Bursary is the offer of financial assistance to cover the cost of fees - in full or in part. Bursaries range from 100% of fees to 10% of fees. The majority of awards are between 100% and 75%. Bursaries provide fee support to the families of boys who pass the entrance examinations and interview and are offered a place, but whose financial circumstances mean they cannot afford to pay (in full or in part) the school fees. Dulwich College is academically selective and boys who are offered a place – with or without a Bursary and/or Scholarship – are in the top 15-20% of academic ability for their age group across the UK. A Dulwich College Bursary is means-tested. In making an award, the College’s Bursary Committee takes into account family income, assets and other factors. As a broad guideline, families whose total income is £35,000 pa or less might receive a Bursary of 100% of school fees and families whose total income is around £65,000 pa might receive financial support of 50% of school fees. These figures are indicative only. For all confidential Bursary enquiries please contact the Registrar, Mrs Sarah Betts on bettss@dulwich.org.uk or 020 8299 9263 and to apply online please visit www.dulwich.org. uk/admissions.

St Mary’s – A Popular Choice of School

As a co-educational, Catholic comprehensive school situated in the heart of Croydon, St Mary’s welcomes students of all faiths. Proving to be an increasingly popular choice of school, St Mary’s currently has waiting lists for most of its year groups. The school is proud of its history, being one of the oldest established schools in Croydon, tracing its origins back to 1851. However, the school is forward looking, with its inclusive school community reflecting the diverse local and global communities which it serves. In its last Ofsted inspection, the school was rated as ‘good’, with the inspectors recognising that ‘Pupils feel secure, confident and happy. There is a strong sense of community and care, clearly upheld by the school’s inclusive Christian foundation’. The school endeavours to provide an environment in which students and staff are challenged to achieve their full potential - intellectually, socially and spiritually. The school also strives to inculcate in all its community a respect for the dignity of others as well as a sense of their own personal worth, with its core values being WELCOME, HARD WORK and SERVICE. Patrick Shields, Headteacher explained to Primary Times, “We offer an education that treats our students as individuals, teaches them respect for themselves and each other, and encourages them to emerge into the wider world as well-educated, well-rounded, ambitious and confident young adults.” The school’s academic success is important, providing students with a strong base on which to build their careers. A recent Head Boy is currently studying medicine at Cambridge University. As well as offering a broad and balanced curriculum, students are also encouraged to take part in the wide range of popular enrichment activities on offer each week, including the newly introduced Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Wellbeing Garden Takes Shape at Harris Bermondsey

Students, parents and staff are working together to create a new Wellbeing Garden at Harris Academy Bermondsey. The garden will contain a wellbeing area, a greenhouse and a performance area too. But first the ground needed to be cleared, which was done by a fantastic team of volunteers during three Big Dig sessions last term. The first day of the Big Dig took place in May, with staff, parents and pupils past and present mucking in to get the ground ready for planting. “Despite 47mph winds and drizzle, the willing volunteers worked for four hours to demolish the overgrown site, trim back the buddleia and banish the brambles,” Hellen Hay of Harris Academy Bermondsey told Primary Times. Fortunately, the weather improved for the other two sessions, and the school has made a great start preparing the ground. “But there is still work ahead so we will arrange a few more preparation sessions and then in September the planting can begin,” added Dr Hay. Our picture shows Julia, Savannah and Jasmine,Year 6 girls who are joining the academy in September, working on getting the garden ready. They were also joined by Julia’s younger sister (second left), a future student too! A group of HAB girls has secured £1,500 from the Lord Mayor of London’s City Pitch fund to create a garden and performance space with the school’s Friends of HAB group raising additional funding too.

They give me so much material, so much revision. My school has made it so easy for me, so I haven’t had any problems.” Many congratulations to Andrea.

Girls Represent UK at Climate Conference

A group of students from Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich have represented the UK at a recent climate change conference involving 17 secondary schools. The Harris Federation Climate Change Conference focussed on to what extent countries are meeting, or not meeting, their climate change targets. Each school represented a different country, with six students from Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich representing the UK. The girls spent five weeks prior to the event attending one-hour preparation sessions to research the UK’s greenhouse gas emission targets, for example, and what the UK is doing to support countries most affected by climate change. Shri, in Year 9, told Primary Times, “It was good to meet and debate with other schools, in the same way that countries meet and debate with each other in the United Nations. I felt empowered to take action at school.” The girls debated with China, questioning them on their use of coalbased energy. They also debated with Saudi Arabia on their economic reliance on oil, as well as with Bangladesh and the Marshall Islands who argued the UK needed to do more to support vulnerable nations. As a result of the Climate Change Conference, students are now working on their own ideas about how to raise awareness of climate change in school. Nowa from Year 9 told us, “I feel much more informed and aware about climate change and want to make a difference in my home.” The conference anticipated the COP26 conference on climate change, which takes place in Glasgow in November.

Barely a week goes by without an awareness-raising event, a charity fundraiser or opportunities grasped (big or small) to help others. The school’s mantra is Every girl, every day, meaning every single girl is understood for the person she is and will become. She is supported through her challenges and her accomplishments are celebrated. If you have any specific questions or enquiries about the admissions process, please email admissions@cry.gdst.net or join them for their Whole School Open Day on Saturday 9 October. Go along and see for yourself why Croydon High is the school everyone is talking about.

Just One Tree Day

There is still time for schools to join hundreds of others and sign-up to the highly popular Just One Tree Day, taking place on Friday 15 October. Schools throughout the UK and around the globe have already committed to participating in this international non-uniform day that encourages children to bring in £1 to plant a tree and help reforest the planet - a tree is planted for every £1 raised. Over 150,000 children from eight countries have joined together since Just One Tree Day first launched in 2019. The day highlights to children and young people how their individual actions can make a difference in the fight against climate change and the biodiversity crises. The event is open to both primary and secondary schools - those taking part can access lesson resources that fit in with the national curriculum. As part of their fundraising activities, children learn about photosynthesis, the benefits of trees for both people and wildlife and the vital role they play in reducing the impacts of climate change. The money raised is used to plant the ‘right trees in the right place’, supporting reforestation projects in Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nepal and Zambia, including mangrove forests and kelp regeneration. Academy (LYLA) – a Saturday school that will teach transformative life skills, including leadership, teamwork, presentation skills and CV building. Young people will be invited to enrol for the scheme, which will take place on Saturday mornings, through their school or other networks connected to the programme. Last month schools across Lewisham led the way in tackling race inequalities in education by signing a pledge on Windrush Day. The pledge commits schools to work towards a number of targets, including reducing exclusions for Black Caribbean and dual heritage pupils, targeting ambitious outcomes for these and other minority ethnic groups, developing stronger relationships with parents and carers and improving Black representation in school leadership and governing bodies. The council has committed to tackling race inequality in Lewisham schools, which also includes workshops and teacher training on unconscious bias and modernising the curriculum, Black leadership and governor support. Nicholas Hewlett, Head of St Dunstan’s College told Primary Times, “This project has enormous potential for growth and development, and we look forward to trailblazing how private schools can have genuine educational impact on the broader community in which they are based and particularly for minority groups who are in particular need of targeted support.”

Primary Times spoke to Claudette Bergin, Principal of Harris Academy Peckham. “Welcome to Harris Academy Peckham. I am absolutely delighted to be the Principal of this amazing Academy! “I love being a part of this vibrant community because we are passionate about further improving the lives of our children. We look after each child as though he or she were our own and provide our children at Harris Academy Peckham with high quality education, pastoral care and the necessary skills to become successfully equipped young adults in the next phase or their lives - in college, university and the workplace. “Harris Academy Peckham is unique because our beliefs, achievements and continued success are celebrated each day through our strong LEAP ethos. Leadership - Being a leader, both in learning and in the Academy community. Enquiry – To be curious about learning. Aspiration - Having a commitment to succeed and a desire to do as well as possible. Perseverance – Being resilient and not giving up in the face of challenges. “We believe in developing our students to become well rounded citizens and our Academy has a wide range of enrichment activities offered after academy hours including Gymnastics, Orchestra, Choir, Basketball, Cheerleading, Librarian Training, Duke of Edinburgh, Dance, Science Club, Debate Society, Coding, Programming, EAL Club, Athletics, Homework, Peckham Poets Club, Board Game Club, Peckham Citizens and an active Student Council. “I look forward to meeting you all very soon as you join us on our exciting journey at Harris Academy Peckham.”

The School of Skate

Since Sky Brown’s Bronze medal in the Olympics, skateboarding has been in the public eye, and there are many more girls skateboarding now. One day in August The Guardian reported that as many as half the skateboarders at Brixton skatepark were female. In recent years many modern concrete skateparks have been built, so there is probably one close to you. The School of Skate is a skateboarding school which opened in Charlton in 2017 when the skatepark was completed and has since expanded to four other sites across London. The school reports as many as half of their students are girls, if not more. The first challenge in learning to skate is to get ...WATCH THEIR a skateboard which is fit for purpose without CONFIDENCE breaking the bank, and this is something School of Skate can help with because you can go along and try one of theirs at a group lesson for as little as £12. If you decide to buy a board, they can help you choose the right size and advise where to pick one up. They also include access to an app, so you can track 3–18 years your progress through the beginner programme, and learn outside the ‘classroom’. Visit your local School of Skate skatepark at Whitegrounds (near London Bridge) or Peckham Rye. Find out more at www.schoolofskate.co.uk. All School of Skate coaches are SkateboardGB accredited.

Win a Trip on the Epping Ongar Railway London Transport Weekend

Competitions

Competitions Get your kids into trains and buses with these fantastic tickets for the Epping Ongar Railway over their London Transport Weekend. The weekend will feature special engines in London Transport livery and the stations will all be dressed as tube stations – just like they were when tube services were withdrawn in 1994. The Epping Ongar Railway is the only heritage line accessible by tube - so leave the car at home. In fact, back in 1972 Ongar was selected as the ‘Start of the Underground’ for calculating all distances and was given a special 0.0Km post. The event takes place on 8-10 October and there are 4 family tickets available for the lucky winners. To win a family ticket, simply tell us which station has a 0.0km sign on it signifying that it is the ‘start of the Underground’? See below for details of how to enter.

Win an Amazing Gorilla Prize with Cindergorilla To celebrate the publication of Cindergorilla by well-known local author and entertainer, Gareth P. Jones, Primary Times and Farshore have a glorious gorilla competition! One lucky reader and a parent or guardian will win an exciting Cindergorilla experience day (complete with a trip to London Zoo and GoApe TreeTop Adventure). The winning reader will also receive a signed and illustrated copy of the book to celebrate publication!

Cindergorilla loves to dance. She longs to go to the Saturday Night Disco Ball, where the other gorillas strut their stuff, but her horrid aunt and cousins, Gertrude and Grace always say no. Instead Cindergorilla must stay home and do the housework! But all that changes when Cinder gets a visit from her Hairy Godmother…. Cindergorilla is the second book in Gareth’s Fairy Tales for the Fearless series, and is a fun-filled twist on the classic children’s fairy tale Cinderella. It celebrates resilience and is a fun disco-dancing adventure, combined with stunning illustrations by Loretta Schaeur. Cindergorilla is published in paperback by Farshore on 16 September at a recommended price of £6.99. To be in with a chance of winning this fabulous prize, all you need to do is complete and cut out the word search. Then fill out the form with your details and send them to the address below by the closing date. Or scan a copy of your completed form and email it to the email address below.
