AWVC’s Parade Plans Look Great – Really Great! by Rick Winterson Last Tuesday evening, at the McDonough Post on West Broadway, sixteen (16) members of the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council (the AWVC) met to map out final plans for the 117th Annual St. Patrick’s/Evacuation Day Parade. Please remember that number “16” – it’s important. A week ago (March 02, page 13), South Boston Online published an article about the Mummers from Philadelphia, who’ll be joining our Parade this year – one of the most prominent marching groups in the whole world. And there’s much more you’ll see in this year’s Parade. Anticipate the Shannon Irish Rovers, who are the premier band in Chicago’s St. Pat’s Parade. The

Rink Rededication Beautifully Undertaken
Tian Guo, a 200-piece Chinese Band, is also marching – their precision march techniques are unforgettable. The Centaurus High School Band from Colorado will join the Warriors Marching Band from Maryland in delighting the Parade’s spectators. And that just skims the surface – 12 other marching bands from around the country and 10 pipe bands will keep your toes tapping. We mentioned the importance of the “16” AWVC members above. Do you believe that the entire St. Patrick’s/ Evacuation Day Parade is organized and presented by those AWVC members, along with the Parade volunteers whose help is so valuable. Well, it is. Murphy came to witness the rededication of the recently renovated rink. They also came to witness the revealing of the new memorial plaque
