One-Way Streets Opposed Fenway Tour - A Grand Slam!

Kevin Donahue and Dan Manning addressed a highly emotional, overflow crowd at the Condon School Traffic Meeting on Tuesday evening. The Topic: The temporary one-way streets in South Boston, which had been suddenly extended until June 1. It was a raucous meeting, even by South Boston standards. Initially, shouted comments from the floor almost drowned out the speakers’ attempt to say a few words. Touchie McDonough led off the participants who went to the microphones. He specifically and loudly complained about signage that might become permanent, and the extension of the one-way plan till June 1 “willy-nilly”, as he termed it. He detailed specific difficulties with

his own neighborhood, such as G and H Streets already being oneway. Similar comments came from other members of the audience. Feelings were vented at the microphones; frequent shouted comments from the floor continued. A show of hands early on indicated nearly unanimous feelings - the temporary one-way streets had to go. Right away. City Councilor-at-Large Michael Flaherty spoke near the end of the meeting. He remarked that it was obvious the one-way temporary plan wasn’t working; he then promised that South Boston’s traffic trouble spots would be examined and fixed as soon as possible. continued on page 14

Make Your Big Move Or Pay Less Where You Are! Mass Bay Mortgages We Make It All Sooooo Easy!

The BCYF Curley and Tynan Community Centers joined teams and received a “Home Run” tour of America’s most beloved ball park, Fenway, last Friday during school vacation. Over 45 kids of all ages covered all the bases from the oldest grandstand seats in baseball to the most exciting seats up on the Green Monster. We made a short stop in the broadcast booth and then experienced the left field warning track where Yaz, Jim Rice and Manny did their thing making spectacular catches over the years. We were treated to a fun-filled and historical two hours of Fenway, closing it out at the Red Sox Museum where we gathered more insight and traditions of our “Hometown Heroes” and World Champions. No foul balls on this sunny day, only big hits! Photo by Barbara Kelly.
