The battle lines have been drawn and re-drawn concerning the future of the former Gate of Heaven Elementary School. Those against a proposed condodeal want to see the former Catholic school transformed into a charter school, so that students in South Boston can have affordable access to quality education. On Wednesday evening, April 15, the Tynan School cafeteria was filled with over 250 people whose desire is to see charter school students fill the rooms and

walk the corridors in the former Gatey School. “I am in support of a charter school at this location,” said Representative Nick Collins. And so are many others. Over 1200 signatures have been collected in favor of this idea and against condo-conversion. Many people feel that if their children don’t get accepted to Boston’s three exam schools, they simply can’t afford to send their children to private schools, like Catholic Memorial or Boston College High School, which costs thousands of dollars; indeed similar to a second annual mortgage. “This reminds me of the past when this community came together,” said Ray Flynn, former Ambassador to the Vati-
