Honoring Those Who Served
Veterans deserve our respect and admiration BY KEVIN DEVLIN
Next Tuesday, November 11, Americans will honor all Veterans who have served in our Armed Forces. It’s a day to thank them for keeping us safe and preserving our freedom. If you know a veteran, make it a point to contact him or her and thank them for everything they’ve done for us. They deserve it. Here are a few quotes to reflect upon on Veteran’s Day: “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service or our country can
never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” Harry S. Truman “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” Arthur Ash “Better than honor and glory, and History’s iron pen, Was the thought of duty done and the love of his fellow-men.” Richard Watson Gilder “The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Jeff Miller “On this Veteran’s Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.” Dan Lipinski

Seapoint on Covington Street has brought a nice touch to the Sunday brunch scene in South Boston and the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s “Connemara” – a quartet playing the instruments that are part of traditional Irish music, which has become extremely popular in America. Last Sunday, Connemara played from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. (and then some), to a full house at Seapoint. They will play 11 to 1 every Sunday from now on. Pictured above are Connemarans Frank McDonough (accordion), Eamon Connolly (banjo), Marion Daly Calvi (fiddle), and Bob Calvi (guitar). As with all good Irish music, each tune had an undertone of “longing” about it, especially “When you Go, Lassie, Go.” What a great way to segue into the afternoon Patriots game with the Broncos.
