Last week was a really poor game in general. One where, again, we were in complete control to only give away goals completely against the run of play. Its always hard to take when its a last minute goal, but this was the last 5 seconds
UTS
A warm welcome to our near neighbours for today’s Hellenic League Div 1 game. Along with Stratford this game is probably as close to a local derby we will play this season. Its a club we know well, having played them twice in Hellenic 2 in the 2019/20 season. The first game at Moreton midweek under the lights sticks in the memory as we played virtually the whole first team. We won 1-0 on the night to put us top of the league and we never looked back in finishing top of the league in the season that never was. If my memory serves me well, Ethan scored the winner...But I could be wrong. Its a bank holiday game and form always goes out the window for these games. We have been so close, yet so far. Its fine margins. We could be sat on 5-6 points and a solid start, but we have to be honest and say we have chucked points away. The positive is that it is easily rectified.
RICHARD KAY where it would have been a crucial point where we came from behind and would have been 2 games without defeat.
Enjoy the game and thank you for your continued support.
The footballing gods have been cruel, however, 6 games in 14 days has been an impossible schedule. Its a crazy schedule for part time footballers and management teams. Its been a whirlwind. You go from game to game. All you can do is give soundbites and there is zero time for training and coaching.
The positive now is that for the majority of the remaining season we are back to Saturday-Saturday games and Thetraining.last3 years’ success has been built on the training pitch and coaching. It was great to get back out on the training pitch this week. I haven’t been actively on the training pitch due to more of a management role, but I’m a tracksuit manager and always will be. I have a fantastic backroom coaching staff and the players will now get the full benefit of being back on the training pitch. We just need that one win to kick-start our season.
HEAD COACH
Rich Kay

“THE LAST THREE YEARS’ SUCCESS HAS BEEN BUILT ON THE TRAINING PITCH AND COACHING” 05

The Saints were looking to build on their 0-0 draw earlier in the week when they visited FC Stratford, but a last minute goal put the fixture to rest. It was more of the same, with Southam starting strong but giving away a goal against the run of play and then overcoming a 0-1 half-time deficit with a goal from Captain Simon Barby to get to 90 minutes 1-1. It wasn’t until the dying minutes of the match when Bourton Rovers scored through George Callinan to take all three points on the day.

It was another great start and points squandered in Southam’s last match out against Bourton Rovers.
After the match Head Coach Richard Kay indicated that holding on until the final whistle without conceding that goal would have secured a crucial point as well as starting
The home team saw a familiar lineup with Barby taking up a position in the back-line to cover for Harris and Locklin, who were both sidelined due to injury. The absence of both Ellis and Ethan Champkins saw Pat O’Brien come into the midfield and Josh Dixon on the wing.
SOUTHAM UNITED: Hudson, Dunn, Green, Neale, Barby (c), Yeates, O’Brien, Osborne, Mauritson, Lawes, Dixon. subs: Bloomer, Drummond, Boe, Fitzmaurice subs not used: Fitzmaurice
BOURTON ROVERS: Boote, Farley, Long, Mitchell, Morton, O’Toole, Soliman, Teague, Trott, Walsh, Way. subs: Bolger, Callinan, Robotham a run of form without defeat in two matches. He did also reference the fact that the team had played 6 games in 14 days, and were up against an almost “impossible schedule”. With the team back to a more normal schedule and training they will look to improve against Moreton Rangers on Monday, 29 August at BHP. Kickoff is at 3pm.

Moreton Rangers Football Club was established in 1907 under the name Moreton Town FC. During their time in the Hellenic Premier the club were bankrupted half way through the 1994/5 season.
Moreton Rangers was formed in 1997 as an Under 8s youth side, playing on the wold Moreton Town ground at London Road, Moreton-in-Marsh in the heart of the Cotswolds. Due to the financial demise of Moreton Town, the young Moreton Rangers wereTheborn.club grew from strength to strength and by the early 2000s had expanded to 4 youth teams who went on to be successful in the Witney and District League.
In 2015 the club joined the Hellenic Division 2 West League. Rangers were led for years by former Oxford United, Fulham, Huddersfield and Leyton Orient player Gary Barnett. Barnetts managerial career included time as Molby’s assistant at Kidderminster.Hissuccessor, Nick Timms, a former rangers player himself currently manages our first team and Lead them to a double victory, winning the Gloucestershire Senior Amateurs Cup and league double in the 2018/19 season. on June 18th 2019 Moreton Rangers were awarded Promotion to the Hellenic Division 1 West

An arson attack left the changing rooms completely gutted. Thanks to community fundraising the club managed to gather the £72,000 needed to progress.In2006, the club were awarded the FA Development Status as a supporter of 5 youth teams and an adult side. To this day the adult side is made up of some of the original U8s.

All managers and coaches are supported in following their ambitions to complete FA coaching courses and as of the 21/22 season, the club has supported 3 of its former junior players to undertake their referee qualifications. With more to follow - subject to courses being available.
Following a period of transition for the First Team and an absence of several seasons, the First Team successfully returned in 2018/19 playing in the Hellenic league and managed by Rich Kay. Since this time, and despite the challenge of COVID, the team have gone from strength to strength, gaining promotion and in the 2021/22 season are playing in the Oxford Senior League Premier. After one season in the OSL Prem the team was promoted to the UHL Hellenic League Division 1 at step 6 football, where they are looking to springboard to the next level.
Southam United was founded in 1905 following the amalgamation of two village teams. Southam United, or “Saints” as they are known, has a long and distinguished history
SOUTHAM UNITED FC
Currently, the Club’s range of junior teams runs from the Mini Soccer School (boys and girls of 5 years upwards) being introduced to the game in a fun and safe environment through the junior age groups up to the Under 16’s with some 250 players participating in coaching sessions and games throughout the season. The club also maintains a successful Wildcats and Girls section, encouraging more girls into the game and hoping to retain them for the future. This is with a view to eventually growing our own Ladies team.
From 1947 to 1956 the club won most of the titles in the then prestigious Coventry and North Warwickshire League culminating in the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup. Saints moved into the Midland Combination in 1980/81 and immediately won the Division 3 title and completed the double by winning the Vase Final with a 3-1 victory over Kingsbury United. When the League was reorganised in 1983/84, United were invited into the Premier Division but after struggling for several seasons they were downgraded to Division 1 when it was discovered that their pitch was now too short owing to the construction of a bowling green next to it. It took until 1995/96 for United to get back into Premier Division football. In 1997/98 Saints enjoyed their most successful season in the Midland Combination finishing as Premier Division Runners Up and winning the Birmingham County FA Vase with a convincing 3-0 victory over Shirley Town.
First Team results from 1998 to 2004 were largely disappointing. A sixth placed MidComb Premier Division finish in 2004/05 augured well for the future but could not be improved upon in season 2005/06 thanks to inconsistent league form. There was, however, some comparative success in Cup competitions, including an appearance in the first ever Cup Final at the Ricoh Arena, when Saints finished as Runners Up to Coundon Court in The Coventry Charity Cup. Cup success was achieved in 2008/09 as the Club lifted the BCFA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup with a convincing 3 - 1 victory over Darlaston Town and again in 2010/11 with victory in the Telegraph Challenge Cup Final at The Ricoh Arena. Runners Up spot in the Premier Division was achieved in 2011/12 when the team fell away with the finishing line in sight.Inboth 2012/13 and 2013/14 the Club were runners up in the BCFA Midweek Floodlit Cup; and in 2014/15 were beaten finalists in the Les James Cup at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium and the Coventry Charity Cup at Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena.
All time leading goalscorer (over 1,000 goals) and record appearance holder is Bob Hancocks who served the Club loyally in virtually every capacity. In 2002 Bob and his wife Anne received a presentation from the Club to mark their over 50 years of loyal service to Southam United and their contributions to the game were finally recognised by the FA Long Service Award in June 2012.
The Club is an FA Charter Standard Community Club.
In 2001 the Club merged with Southam Town FC, a progressive junior club formed in 1972 which, amongst other things, has pioneered Ladies and Girls football in Warwickshire. Long-term development plans have now been put into place to strengthen the football base in Southam both on and off the field.
Southam United are also fully committed to supporting it’s volunteer coaches and developing homegrown officials.
