BOURTON ROVERS 2
It was another great start and points squandered in Southam’s last match out against Bourton Rovers.
The Saints were looking to build on their 0-0 draw earlier in the week when they visited FC Stratford, but a last minute goal put the fixture to rest.
It was more of the same, with Southam starting strong but giving away a goal against the run of play and then overcoming a 0-1 half-time deficit with a goal from Captain Simon Barby to get to 90 minutes 1-1.
It wasn’t until the dying minutes of the match when Bourton Rovers scored through George Callinan to take all three points on the day.
The home team saw a familiar lineup with Barby taking up a position in the back-line to cover for Harris and Locklin, who were both sidelined due to injury. The absence of both Ellis and Ethan Champkins saw Pat O’Brien come into the midfield and Josh Dixon on the wing.
After the match Head Coach Richard Kay indicated that holding on until the final whistle without conceding that goal would have secured a crucial point as well as starting
a run of form without defeat in two matches.
He did also reference the fact that the team had played 6 games in 14 days, and were up against an almost “impossible schedule”.
With the team back to a more normal schedule and training they will look to improve against Moreton Rangers on Monday, 29 August at BHP. Kickoff is at 3pm.
