This section,the MiddleDeschutes,is not like the Lower Deschutes which has really deep pools and is truly renowned for its steelhead and salmon fishing. This section is known,I think,for reliable action with fish throughout the year It is better in thecooler months because of the water temperatureand the higher flows Thereare brown trout (especially March Browns),rainbow trout and the occasional white fish I don? t think its a?renowned?fly fishing location But,that said,there is no road along this section which limits access to the public at large There are 4 miles of trail that is directly walk accessiblefrom our place. You can fish all along this stretch,with somebig pools and some shallow sections (lots of habitat) Onecan get to the river within 5 minutes,and spend therest of theday working theriver,and seevery few if any other peopleonce immediately away from the EagleCrest area I almost always get my limit every time I go down It is also within easy access of the Tumalo section of theMiddleDeschutes,as well as theMetolius River, plus someof the CascadeLakes

Visiting a homeor a placegives you an idea of what it?s like to bethere at that point in time,that hour, on that day,in that month,etc It?s not possible in such a short time to know what it?s like to LIVEthere, day in and day out,in every season This beautiful homeand property is akaleidoscope of daily experiences. Thereis a family of otters which occasionally makes itself known,and we?ve watched from thedeck as onefished in the river. My wife has had amink run over her foot while shewas fishing (and thefishing is very good).Wefrequently see adoethat gives birth to her fawn and raises it in the heavy brush across theriver In latespring,yearling deer areseen kicking up their heels and frolicking on thewest slope, whiletheir herd moves slowly through thesagebrush In fall,beautiful bucks with hugeantlers move across thelandscape.
But it?s not all about nature,though that has been the highlight for us
Last year webuilt the raised garden beds by the garden sheds,and they are,if wemay say so,very special. Built mostly of recycled material,they are high tech,self wicking wonders In the bottom of each bed are drain pipes,covered by atwelveinch layer of sand,topped with organic soil Wefill thebottom with water via fill pipes in each bed until it runs out of the overflow tubes on thesides,and physics does therest.
