SorSUeño and future architect Justin R. Golloso makes history as the first Bicolano to win in the Vision Petron National Student Art Competition 2022. He was recognized as a RunnerUp during the Vision Petron 2022 Awards last April 28, 2023.
With three categories for the competition—oil/acrylic painting, watercolor/water-based media, and digital art—Vision Petron received hundreds of pieces of art from 39 state universities and colleges throughout the Philippines.
Golloso, a third-year BS Architecture at the Sorsogon State University, entered the watercolor/water-based media category and submitted his masterpiece titled “Scars and Souvenirs Between Tomorrows” (an art depicting the perseverance of a student to hold a firm grip on his dreams despite the many changing challenges of the times).

The rules of the competition require that contestants base their artworks on the event’s theme,
“Pangarap sa Kinabukasan.” Golloso stated that by adhering to the theme, “I was able to visualize what to paint and what my story angle would be by incorporating my own story. Furthermore, showed in my art the importance of education in achieving dreams.” He also mentioned that he chose ladies as his art subject because they represent love and life in a way that is similar to his passion for and dedication to the arts.
Following his momentous win, Golloso visited and trained the members of the Arts Club in a visual arts workshop. The Arts Club conducts an arts workshop every Saturday to enhance and develop the skills of the Villaroyan artists. It is also worthy to remember that Golloso also earned the 4th place in the Watercolor Category for the Sulong Sidlak 55th Shell National Students Art Competition last December 2022. He truly is not just the pride of Sorsogon State University but also an inspiration to his fellow SorSueños.

RECOGNIZING THE POWER OF WOMEN
... to the innovators and leaders of today, women have continuously exceeded expectations and shown their unstoppable power to everyone. It is crucial to recognize and acknowledge the empowering influence that women have as we approach another era, because this will help to create a future that is more hopeful and promising. In every aspect of life, women have made a powerful impression with their contributions. In science, they have created revolutionary discoveries that have fundamentally changed how we perceive the world. In politics, they have stood up for the rights of the oppressed and battled persistently for equality and justice. They have also broken-down biases in business, led global businesses, and helped in developing economies. In arts, they have created captivating masterpieces that explore the depths of the experiences of humanity, questioning social standards and influencing future generations.
However, women’s power goes beyond these particular achievements. Their perseverance, empathy, and distinctive viewpoints contribute to their success in their every task. Women are outstanding at managing difficult situations with elegance, empathy for others, and building connections that cross barriers. Their style of leadership is frequently characterized by collaborative effort, diversity, and a dedication to help others. They are changing industries, reducing challenges, and promoting a more caring and fair society because of their characteristics.

Furthermore, women have enormous influence that goes far deeper than personal achievement. Women act as agents of change, initiating movements that reshape society as well as overthrow brutal systems and institutions. Women constantly confronted unfair ideas and demanded a more just and peaceful world, from the activists who campaigned for women’s right to vote to the advocates and organizations promoting gender equality. They paved the way for development and motivated other people
to join the battle for equality with their firm conviction, courage, and commitment.
In recognizing the power of women, we also acknowledge the positive impact they will have on future generations. Young girls are inspired to dream higher, to fight stereotypes, and to trust in their own potential as they witness women who have overcome expectations and achieved success.
When women attain positions significance and influence, they turn into lights of inspiration and hope, blazing the way for others who wish to follow in their footsteps. Understanding the ongoing journey towards gender equality and acknowledging that there is still work to be done is crucial. Despite significant advancements and the successes of women in many fields, gender inequalities still exist everywhere in the world. Women still face societal barriers, discrimination, and genderbased abuse that hinder their progress and limit their opportunities for growth on both a personal and professional level
Women frequently experience prejudices in the workplace and in school that hinder their ability to grow in their careers and prevent them from obtaining a decent education. Stereotypes and gender norms create expectations on women that limit them to certain positions and invalidate their contributions. As a result of this, women are typically paid less than men for doing the same job, which leads to a continuous gender pay inequalities. By depriving them of the influence and ability to make decisions required to influence policy and promote positive change, the lack of women in leadership positions contributes to the cycle of inequality. Women from disadvantaged groups, including women of color, LGBTQ+, women with disabilities, and those living in poverty, experience interconnected types of discrimination that make their problems
worse. Their stories are rarely heard in the mainstream media, and their voices are frequently silenced. Therefore, it is crucial to advocate and pursue a comprehensive to eliminate the

particular barriers that women with different origins, lifestyles, and identities encounter.
In order to truly acknowledge the potential of women as Women’s Month unfolds, we must go beyond celebration and address the ongoing injustices that hinder their progress. Advocacy for change is crucial, not only to tear down institutional biases and discriminatory practices but also to build a culture that values and uplifts women. Additionally, men must also participate in the fight for gender equality as supporters and advocates. Men may contribute to the development of a society in which women’s strength and potential are fully recognized and honored by correcting toxic masculinity, promoting gender sensitivity, and striving to demolish patriarchal systems. While celebrating the power of women is significant, it also has to be accompanied by a commitment to addressing the gender gaps that still exist. We can create a world where every woman has the opportunity to maximize her potential, show and contribute her special talents, and play an equal role in determining our shared future by advocating for change and promoting a society that values women in all their diversity. Together, let us work to establish a society in which women’s power is fully recognized and gender equality
In the maze of engineering, great decision-making is vital, where right and left are the choices and each path is fatal. What do your inner voices whisper and external forces dictate? Would you rather let yourself be mystified by love or will you choose to enter the labyrinth of engineering, refusing to be distracted by love? But is it possible to take both ways as some choose to take engineering while in love they stay and hands are tightly holding?
the 5-minute break to be loveydovey with your ‘love love.’ Some also finish their tasks ahead of time and use going out with their partners as a breather.

We are fascinated by the thought of having a relationship. However, do we really know the possible outcomes and responsibilities that come with it? Is love enough to stay in a relationship? Can a relationship work with just an investment of love? Love: four letters that we often hear as the reason that keeps two people's lives intertwined. Time: the string that holds a couple together. It is an important part of a relationship, but it can also be the cause of a relationship's unravelling due to a lack of time together. Engineering is one tough course to take, thus, committing into a relationship may be a challenge.
It is a wonder how engineering students were able to juggle studies and quality time with their significant other, or as we call it, "bebe time". What must be the secret that lies within how they were able to maintain a long-term relationship? Time management! It was really impressive how they were able to fit “bebe time” into their busy schedule. Some talk to their significant other after finishing all school works while some study together.
If you are thinking of dating an engineering student, take note of these tips that our fellow students shared with us! Use the Pomodoro Technique: allot
All engineering students need inspiration to keep pushing forward, and as we interviewed those who are in a relationship, most of them have their significant other as their inspirations. While most of the engineering students we interviewed draw their inspiration from their loved ones, one person responded differently. He believes that it is wrong to draw your inspiration from your girlfriend or boyfriend, because if you lose that someone, you might as well lose your inspiration.
Diverging into another road, some students choose the way where they are not distracted by love and what they only want lying ahead of them are the challenges to be crossed off their perilous and narrow path in engineering. They have a keen focus on what is their goal as a student. They prioritize studying and learning as they have a strong will and desire to be an engineer in the near future.
Some single engineering students also believe that the program that they are taking is the hindrance, like thorny fences, keeping them from entertaining people. They say it is even more challenging as their courses were already life-threatening. However, on the other side, some students are not closing doors for love even if their focus is to study. They believe that it is upon one's capabilities to handle relationships healthily. If, along the way, they cross paths with someone who can patiently wait and would want their attention and affection and the
same way goes with them, that opportunity would be accepted wholeheartedly. If someone is really willing to wait for them until the journey ends, they can promise each other that they will meet in the afterglow and begin a new journey while holding each other close.
Most of the single engineering students interviewed never imagined having a girlfriend or boyfriend in the same department. This explains why most of them preferred to search in other departments when they were asked which departments they found had the most attractive students. But most of them also desired to have a girlfriend or boyfriend with the same
This is the reason why some engineering students think that they are barren to have a romantic relationship, moreover a reason for them to take the path where they can concentrate on studies rather than love. While believing that to take the path of balanced love and studies, trust, patience, and management are requirements toward moulding one’s success in studies and healthy relationships as well. Now, how about you? If you ever come across these two choices along your journey through engineering, which path will you choose to take? To just keep your eye on the goal or to be mystified by love?
A parade kicked off the 116th anniversary celebration of the founding of Sorsogon State University. Having students represent their respective campus. The parade wasn't the only highlight of the day. In the cheer dance competition, students from all of the schools give it their best. It was truly an athletic and glittering display of grace, creativity, and character. The
yells and cheers coming from all corners of the court as they support their fellow students. Magallanes campus, Bulan campus, Castilla campus, and Sorsogon campus, gathering in one place and just, in some way, even for a brief moment, relax and just enjoy the joys of life.

Pompoms of dazzling colors wave through the air, flags that seem to be dancing with the wind as it twirls. It was there,

you can see how competitive they are, by the way they move gracefully, the way they throw their hands up in the air, not to mentions that cartwheels done during the performance, and what’s a cheer dance without those nerve racking lifts and tosses. You can just hear how much the crowd’s attention was drawn as the students were lifted in the air, cheering with all the energy that they can give.
It’s not everyday that you get to take part of a cheer dance competition. Especially as this was the first cheer dance competition for all the campuses of Sorsogon state university.
Aside from the student’s eagerness to win, and just grab those gold medals, it was etched in their faces, the joy they must’ve felt, that even for just a brief moment, they get to enjoy once more the joys of life.
A battle without bloodshed, but rather one in which each band uses their voices and musical instruments as weapons: strumming the strings of their guitars, pressing the keys of their keyboards, hitting their drums in the tune with the beating of their hearts, and their seemingly enchanted microphones as a spear while soulfully singing to tear the hearts of the crowd in fascination.

The sound of the musical instruments reverberated throughout the premises of the College of Engineering and Architecture campus. The musicians did not ask for it but the crowd willingly lend their ears to listen to every lyric sung by them.
EZ NO SWEAT wowed the

audience with their renditions of Noypi and Hallelujah by Bamboo. The crowd went wild as GG ECE serenaded them with Magazine by Eraserheads and Demonyo by JK Labajo. 5INGKO hyped up the audience as they perform Martyr Nyebera and Chiksilog by Kamikazee. BEAM 'N BEAM brought nostalgia as they perform Umaaraw Umuulan by Rivermaya and Halik by Kamikazee. Who would have thought that the song Uhaw by Dilaw and Bata Dahan Dahan by IV of Spades that we often hear on social media will be heard on the grounds of Baribag Campus as it is played by BANDANG TRES? SINGLE SIDE BAND Elesi by Rivermaya and Synesthesia by Mayonnaise.
The Best Lead Vocalist Award goes to Christian Ronmel Bismar, the lead vocalist of BANDANG TRES, who enthralled everyone simply by uttering lyrics that seem like an enchantment. Strumming the strings of the crowd's heart, BANDANG TRES' Lead Guitarist, John Mark Hita, and Lead Bassist, Cristan Jintalan, were named Best Lead Guitarist and Best Bassist, respectively. The Best Keyboardist Award was given to Caesar Laban, the keyboardist of BEAM N BEAM, who transported everyone to Wonderland by simply pressing a few keys. SINGLE SIDE
BAND's Jomari Bengorio was named Best Rhythm Guitarist. Benix Gernale, the
drummer for 5INGKO, hits the drum to the beat of the crowd's hearts, earning him the Best Drummer Award.
EZ NO SWEAT finished as the second runner-up in this battle of voices and musical instruments. 5INGKO was the first-place winner. The SINGLE SIDE BAND was hailed as the champion. The band's incredible performances brought EASA Days to a close. It was a truly magical night. The performances were brief and left the audience wanting more, but this was overshadowed by the desire to spend the rest of the night moving and grooving to the music of the party.
With just a blow of a whistle, the school-based survival camping was set off! Students in their respective groups, compete in the events laid out for them. And as expected, neither one of the groups held back, from designing their own flags, down to the race of activities, each group were really eager of winning. Flags of different colors and design, each representing the team that they are in. I mean who wouldn’t want to win? And of course, get bragging rights,
but still in a fun and friendly way.
Then they were off! Teams trying to find every station that they needed to complete, each having their own task. But nothing stopped them, even under the heat of the sun, even if they got wet from that one activity, or even if they had to crawl in the mud, it never stopped them from completing the tasks.
The committees of the event all working together to make sure the students enjoy the whole day. The medical team making sure that everyone is safe, the
facilitators, making sure that each team are playing fairly, it was a collaborative effort really. Then comes lunch. Food plated in a aesthetically pleasing manner, fruits and vegetables arranged in a way they look like flower petals, a boodle fight! Each student bringing their own food for the table, as they eat their hunger away, who wouldn’t get hungry after all those activities.
The event was made possible through the effort of Sir Christian Fugen, and other
students. This event was the last activity that they have in their PE subject, so you could just see how everyone was working together to make the event a success and a way for them to relax just relax. But for them, it wasn’t just an event, after all those exams, the pending tasks, this was a day to just escape those academic activities, and that even if it was just for a day, they made the most out of it.
What better way to divert your minds from all those academic workloads than to just pull up a party up until midnight!
The Engineering Architecture Students Association (EASA) kicks off the last day of the EASA week with a party for both engineering and architecture students. With the theme of the party as black and white, students arrive in their black and white outfits – dress, suits, gowns – well I guess black is still the new black, as the students show off their fashion styles as
they arrive in the campus. With glittering accessories, those shoes, heels, that just boosts up their confidence, it was all there, just the perfect night to end the week-load of activities.
Everyone gets lost in the heat of passion, dance, and just pure character, as a series of bands battle it out on the stage. Voices echoing on the dance floor, together with the cheers of the audiences. Rock, jazz, OPM, you name it, every band really gave it their all. Strumming those strings,
beating the drums, holding the mic as if it was made for them, as if it was their one-night concert. You could clearly see the joy in the student’s faces as the night continues. Wild on one side, as the sound operator brought up tunes and beats that just makes the crowd go wild, and on the other, just plain love songs, those sweet tunes that crawl up on your veins that make your little heart beats a little faster, those butterflies in the stomach, with dim lights, and just slow dancing, something to
calm down the whole event. It was a memorable night for all, until just like in fairy tales, it all ends upon the tick of the clock at 12 midnight. A time to end the event, to end the music, to the end the dance, and yet you can still see the students making the most of the time left. Although the night was brought to an end, it was a party that would surely be remembered for the whole school year. A party leaving the students with those burning passion to just keep on persevering.

offense and clean defense. They put up a better fight in the second set, but was still dominated.
Battle for third immediately followed after the eliminations wherein PSME won by default against ARCHI. The championship match was held morning of the next day. On set 1, IIEE took the lead and gripped it with a 25–23 finish. ACES snatched the second set, 26-
24, led by a remarkable comeback of Larry Dave F. Aranda garnering 14 attack points. The game ended at 15-12. Aranda was proclaimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

As for the women’s volleyball, ACES also had a sweep from eliminations to championship. During eliminations, they overpowered ARCHI, 25-12, 2725. Due to point system, and there
were just three (3) teams, ACES earned a spot on the finals early.
In the championship against IIEE, they maintained their momentum and used their advantage to pave their way to victory, 25-16, 25-21.
Jandhee Nicole Jasareno was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for admirably contributing 13 points to the championship match.
