The Endling

Strange Futures Theatre Company

The last known individual of a species. But which will it be?

We live in a time of ‘Endlings’ – the last individual of a species – caused by human actions. You may remember Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island Tortoise, but do you remember Turgi, the last Polynesian Tree Snail? He died in a plastic box and his grave marker read “1.5 million years BC to January 1996”. Who will go next?

As species extinction speeds up, Strange Futures pose some difficult questions for all of us through quirky humour, new writing and physical performance.

Sunday Cinema Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical

Sunday 15 January - 3pm

Advance: £8 (Conc £7) then £10 (£9)

Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir) is a little girl with big curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination — and the worst parents in the world. While her family content themselves with trashy TV and dodgy money-making schemes, she loves to lose herself in the pages of her beloved books. Where they are loud, selfish and unkind she is a quiet observer, thinking up small and cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge. Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what’s right, she’s met with miraculous results.

The Langcliffe Singers Come and Sing: The Armed Man

Saturday 28 January - 6.30pm

Adults: £10 (Under 18s: Free)

The Langcliffe Singers with their conductor, Darren Everhart and members of the wider community, will present a ‘from scratch’ performance of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace at this ‘Come & Sing’ Event in Giggleswick School Chapel.

Sir Karl Jenkins’ 20th-century choral classic The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace fuses words and music from many different centuries and cultures in condemnation of war and the misery it brings war – wherever it is – diminishes us all. The words of the Latin Mass are juxtaposed with the Adhan (the Muslim call to prayer), with the Mahabharata (an ancient Indian epic) and poetry from across the world. If you would like to take part and come & sing, please contact Ellie Everhart for more details on ellieeverhart@gmail.com

Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February - 7.00pm

A musical version of Shakespeare’s classic play!

Prospero and his daughter Miranda have been marooned on a desert island. Prospero uses his magical power to cause a tempest, bringing a passing ship onto the rocks. Among the survivors is Antonio and other treacherous characters. After the shipwreck, Miranda sets eyes on Prince Ferdinand, the first human she has seen since she was three years old. Miranda is horrified that her father has caused innocent Ferdinand huge suffering. Eventually, once Prospero has learnt that the only way forward is to set everyone free from the past through forgiveness, Miranda also realises that no real harm has been done.

Singers Mozart’s Requiem

Saturday 1 April - 7.30pm Tickets: £15

The Langcliffe Singers mark their 40th anniversary with a special concert in Giggleswick School Chapel.

The Langcliffe Singers are delighted to present Mozart’s Requiem for soprano, alto, tenor, bass, choir and orchestra. The Requiem is justifiably one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire. It was incomplete when Mozart died – the first eight bars of the poignant Lacrimosa were the last that Mozart wrote before his death - and it was completed by Franz Süssmayr. This stunning work of beautiful melodies and dramatic interjections befits the magnificent surroundings of the Chapel. The concert will feature professional soloists and a professional orchestra and is sure to be a truly memorable occasion.
