Clerkenwell is home to many Architects, Designers and creative people, who are responsible for the convention form the industrial district into offices, lofts, and designer workshops and provided the establishment of restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

St. James was a famous Covent in medieval times which was located beyond the city walls. The only part of the Covent which is still received and famous is the St. James Gate. Later on, craftsmen and big factories settled down and the area became famous for the watchmakers.

If you walk around you can still see some of the residential and workplaces from the watchmakers back in the time, you can recognize them by the windows which are placed on top of the house, they are also called „watchmakers windows“ because they provide the most daylight so watchmakers could work for as much as the day as was possible.

The Clerkenwell Design Week is the perfect occasion for all the designers and artists to present their work to Architects and art lovers from all over the world. There is still some independent workshop that produce all their work by hand.

Clerkenwell also has a great community aspect which is represented in all the restaurant and pubs around the area, where people are coming together after work to enjoy the evening.

Clerkenwell might be an urban neighborhood but there are green spaces to be found if you know where to look.

Spa Fields, tucked behind Exmouth Market, is a busy park with an unusual adventure playground providing an oasis of greenery in this central area. In the past 20 years, Clerkenwell has been transformed from a mainly working area to a popular and desirable residential area. This is largely thanks to their impressive blocks of flats popping up throughout the neighborhood, including Rosebery Avenue and Clerkenwell Quarter where apartments are designed around a private landscaped garden.
