The main part of the building would be redesigned into a Boutique Hotel. The Hotel is located in Clerkenwell close to the City of London, which is a city, ceremonial county and local government district that contains the historic centre and the primary central business district (CBD) of London. Therefore business people and people passing by the area just for a short time will be the main user. My goal is to design a small and cozy Boutique Hotel and allow costumers to relax during their short stay.

The second user of the budling will be a small independent company and it will cover parts of the basement and the ground floor area.

The office area will be connected to the hotel by creating a big open space. The interiors and design of the office will be slightly more modern compared to the hotel. Part of the office will be a walk-in office which can be used by anyone. The Covid-19 regulations will be considered by creating more individual work areas and providing everything the customer needs right next to them, to reduce the circulation.

Georgian homes are old and steeped in history and have influenced architecture for generations.

One of the defining characteristics for Georgian homes is their symmetry. The front door is smack in the middle and if there are six windows on one side, there are six windows on the other. A smaller Georgian home might have a simple flat front but even the larger manor houses keep to the symmetry.

Georgian architecture is characterized by its proportion and balance; simple mathematical ratios were used to determine the height of a window in relation to its width or the shape of a room as a double cube.

Clerkenwell is home to many Architects, Designers and creative people, who are responsible for the convention form the industrial district into offices, lofts, and design workshops and provide the establishment of restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

The Clerkenwell Design Week is the perfect occasion for all the designers and artists to present their work to Architects and art lovers from all over the world. There are still some independent workshops that produce all their work by hand.

Old Session house is known to be one of the finest and important historic buildings in Clerkenwell. It was constructed in the 1779 and first opened in the 1782 which cost £13,000 to complete, the building was in The Palladian-style with the front entrance filled with solid Portland stone and logic columns, at the time it was one of the most expensive materials.

It was used as a courthouse from 1782 until 1920- saw hundreds of legal cases and prisoners marched down to the basement cells. The Session house included two large courtrooms, lockouts for holding prisoners and a grand living space for the resident judges. Whereas to the judge’s luxurious quarters, the basement cells were tiny.

A new courtroom was built in 1860, it was built above the entrance. Until 1889 the session house served as the main judicial and administrative centre for Middlesex and it held the last court case in the 1920. After a decade of being empty, it then became Avery House (HQ-for Avery). In 1979, the central London Masonic centre (CLMC) bought the building and situated until 2013.

The coffered dome is a series of sunken panels in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon in a ceiling.

The Roman Pantheon temple in Rome, Italy was used as a muse and the style was incorporated into the dome in the ceiling of the Old Session House. The dome creates the illusion of height by opening up the space.

Regarding my extension I looked into the area and I got inspired by the ruins located around the city of London. The ruins clearly standout compared to the modern builds around them. Some of them have been developed into bars, restaurant or museums or even into city gardens.

The main idea behind these projects is to keep the original structure and add modern architecture and design. The additional design should standout and not blend in with the original ruin. Putting my research and ideas into context I will keep the main structure of the extensions in the same style as the original building and I will add some modern glass elements. Part of the extension will be just covered by the roof without any windows, which will create an indoor/outdoor space.
