Commemorating D-Day on Sea Sunday O

n Sunday 13th July at 6.30 pm, on Warsash Hard in front of the Rising Sun pub, the popular Sea Sunday service focused on the events of June 1944, when some 3,000 British and Allied servicemen left from this spot on D-Day seventy years ago. They commemorated at the D-Day Memorial with the Last Post and Reveille in an Act of Remembrance, and a piper played, as Lord Lovatt’s piper played out the landing craft heading for the beaches of Normandy. There was a parade by the Royal British Legion and other uniformed organisations, and Warsash Band provided the music. Our MP, the Mayor and other community leaders attended this moving event, which saluted the courage and sacrifice of those who left these shores in defence of our freedom. More pictures of the event are on page 80.

Sherri Hill Prom at Dress To Go

D

ress to Go in Botley has had a massive success, having sold over 500 prom dresses for this year’s proms. They have expanded their range each year offering the largest prom selection in Hampshire. Due to the increase in prom purchases they are very proud to announce that they have been approved to become a SHERRI HILL STOCKIST. This American designer prom range is becoming very popular in the UK and a lot of girls have been asking for these dresses to be sold in the south for a long time. The range they will be stocking will be shown on their website and will be updated each time new styles arrive in the shop. They have already started selling prom dresses for 2015 and welcome anybody who wants to come and have a look, book an appointment or needs any advice on styles and colours. The shop policy ensures that they only sell one style in one colour per school, so if you are looking for a prom dress or you know somebody who is, have a look on their website at www.dresstogo.co.uk or give them a call on 01489 795823.

Cricket Club bowled over by cash grant from Fareham Council

F

areham Borough Council has awarded £2,000 to Burridge Cricket Club (Colts) through community funding to purchase a bowling machine and equipment. The club based at Burridge Recreational Ground coaches over 100 local children. Their U9, 11, 13 and 15 teams have gone from strength to strength in the South East Hants Cricket Leagues. The £2,000 awarded will help them to coach even more children and further improve their league performance. Western Wards CAT Chairman, Councillor Michael Ford, showed support for the application and said “A bowling machine for the Colts will help develop local talent. With a first team competing at the top of their division it is important that the club has a steady stream of young talent feeding into the adult team”. Any resident, or organisation based in the Fareham can apply to the Community Fund for money for one off purchases from the Council. For more information about the Community Fund contact a member of the Community Action Team (CAT) on 01329 236100 or email cats@fareham.gov.uk.

Mayor opens “pub” at Hawthorne Court

T

here is a new “pub” for residents of Hawthorne Court, Hampshire County Council’s nursing home in Sarisbury Green. Mayor of Fareham, Cllr David Norris officially opened the pub on Wednesday evening and joined residents and staff to celebrate. The “pub” is part of Hawthorne Court’s programme to make the environment at the home more dementia friendly by providing the opportunity for recreation and reminiscence. Reminiscence can be a very effective way of communicating with people with dementia at the same time as empowering them and improving their wellbeing. Fareham Mayor, Cllr David Norris said, “I am delighted to have been asked to open the Duck and Deer here at Hawthorne Court. The replica room really does look and feel like a pub and I’m sure it will be helpful in the person-centered reminiscence therapy for residents here as well as a super recreational facility.” Hawthorne Court manager, Kerry Bean said, “We have created a permanent replica pub in one of our communal rooms. Our residents are very excited about the new pub and have been voting to decide upon its name. The outcome of the vote was announced by the Mayor during his visit as, The Duck and Deer. I was previously involved with the installation of a similar pub at another Hampshire County Council residential home, Marlfield in Alton and it was very successful so I am confident the Duck and Deer will become a beneficial and well-used part of Hawthorne Court.” This is just one example of the work happening across Hampshire to make it a more dementia friendly county, such as dementia friendly high streets in Fareham, Lyndhurst, Romsey, Fleet and Alton where local businesses are signing up to training to help support people with dementia and displaying dementia friendly stickers signifying that their business is working hard to create an inclusive and supportive environment for people with dementia and their carers.

Is there anyone to take care of us?

Time for tea with Age Concern Hampshire

A

ge Concern Hampshire is calling on budding bakers across the Solent region to raise funds for people with dementia as part of a week long ‘Good Old Fashioned Tea Party’ campaign.

L

izzy and Cokie are sadly victims of cruelty and neglect. They have been rescued and are now in care, where they are responding well to love and attention. They are between 8 and 10 years old. Both have very sweet characters and would so appreciate a happy future with owners who will give them the love and security they rightly deserve. Anyone who would have patience with them, considering their unhappy past, and has a safe area with a garden for them when settled and would be interested in adopting these two lovely cats should please contact: 02380 435855.

Supporters are invited to host a fundraising tea party from September 8 to 14 and be in with the chance to win afternoon tea for two at Lainston House near Winchester. Executive chef Andrew MacKenzie will award a prize for the most imaginatively decorated cake, with photos of cakes to be submitted along with donations. Over 18,000 people in Hampshire live with dementia, with one third of them living alone. The charity offers specialist day care, counselling and support to those living with the condition, their families and carers. Andrew MacKenzie from Lainston House said: “It’s a real honour to be asked to judge this competition which is raising money for such a worthwhile cause. I am really looking forward to looking through the photographs from all the budding bakers.” Fundraising manager Jemma Saunders said: “We are calling on Hampshire to get together and make a difference to the lives of older people in the local community. Exchanging memories of times gone by with family and friends is enjoyable for everyone, but is especially beneficial for people with dementia. Cake sales, sponsored tea-making at work and tea parties at home will all help to raise much needed funds for our work.” For more information and to request a Good Old Fashioned Tea Party fundraising pack, contact the fundraising office on 01962 892449 or email supporters@ageconcernhampshire.org.uk. F

ollowing the Informer story last month, organizers Tracey Williams and Jackie Maffin are pleased to announce that their gig, organised to raise money for Autism Hampshire was a complete success. Tracey and Jackie worked tirelessly selling tickets and promoting the event and were delighted when it was a sell out! £500 was raised for Autism Hampshire which is a huge amount for such a small event but it was great to have a meaningful reason behind a fun night. All the bands performed to such a high standard and everyone had their favourite as there was a good mixture of genres. It was also a good advert for promoting what amazing musical talent comes from a local school. They would like to say a big thank you to the Locks Heath Working Mens Club for allowing them to use their hall, it was a great sized hall, perfect for this gig and they hope to work with them again. Also a big thank you to ‘Pizza Hut’ in Locks Heath, ‘The Frying Fish’ Chip shop in Warsash and ‘Manhatten Pizza’ for feeding the bands in between the sound check and the gig, they were very grateful! They would like to thank also everyone who bought tickets and went along to enjoy local talent and support a good cause, to Russell Williams and Rick Over for working so hard to provide an amazing PA and lighting system, to Autism Hampshire for all their support and of course not forgetting the amazing talented bands!

Computer Know How! W

indows 7 – mainstream support for Windows 7 will be ending early 2015.

31st October 2014 so after that time it is unlikely that you will be able to buy a new PC with that operating system.

Meaning that you will no longer get Free Incident Support, Warranty claims, design changes and feature requests. This sounds like a ridiculous idea as Windows 7 is the most widely used operating system in the world but to put this into perspective and to stop any worrying, XP mainstream support ended April 2009, and the operating system was still used worldwide for another 5 years (all support ended April 2014) with no problems whatsoever.

Windows 8 – there has been a lot of controversy with Microsoft’s new operating system (OS) and to some extent they have listened to the feedback provided by the end user. The OS works well for touch screen users but not for a standard computer operator, which let’s face it, will be the majority of users. For Microsoft to load Windows 8 on all new PCs without touchscreen is madness. However they have provided frequent updates to improve the user interface by adding features for non-touchscreen users. To get these updates make sure to check your Windows updates and if you haven’t yet upgraded to 8.1, visit the store on the metro start screen for the update download.

So this news does not mean you need to upgrade to the dreaded Windows 8. Security updates will still be rolled for at least another 5 years (until April 2020). However sales of Windows 7 will end on

Start Menu 8 Start Menu 8 is specially designed for Windows 8. It offers a perfect solution for users who work with Windows Start Menu all the time and are not accustomed to the new Metro start screen in Windows 8. This smart tool brings back both the Windows 8 start button and Windows 8 Start Menu, and offers the option to skip Metro start page, allowing users who only work on desktop to boot to Windows 8 desktop directly. It’s the best Windows 8 start menu replacement. It’s free and you can download it at: http://www.iobit.com/iobitstartmenu8.php Don’t forget that you can always contact Hypersonic for free impartial advice. Fareham Community Fund helps young seafarers

W

arsash Sea Cadets are closer to gaining RYA accreditation after the training centre received a £4,000 grant from Fareham Borough Council’s Community Fund. The charity, based at Warsash Maritime Academy on the River Hamble, offer nautical adventures and sea training to over sixty 10 – 18 year olds. Although their instructors are RYA affiliated to teach power and dinghy sailing, without RYA accreditation for the training facility they are unable to issue cadets with certificates. The £4,000 from the community fund will be used to buy necessary equipment for the academy to help them meet the official standards for training centres set by RYA. Executive member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Connie Hockley supported the application and said “Sea Cadets are a fun way for young people to develop valuable skills that go beyond marine knowledge, helping to build confidence and reinforce values of team work and responsibility. Now the centre is RYA accredited trainees will be able to gain official certification to accompany these skills”. The community fund application was also supported by Western Wards CAT Chairman Cllr Michael Ford who said “The Community Fund is available to support projects that benefit the local community or environment within the Borough of Fareham. Any resident, or organisation based in the Borough can apply for money for one off purchases.” For more information about Community Funding contact a member of the Community Action Team (CAT) on 01329 236100 or email cats@fareham.gov.uk

family from Gosport travelled up to Bolton for the second year in a row so that their four children could compete in the IronKid event on Saturday July 19th – part of the IronMan series held annually in Bolton.

Ava, Toby, Max and Lucy after the race in 2013.

Aged between 5 and 10, the kids Toby (10), Max (8), Lucy(8) and Ava(5) are all super sporty and do Karate, Rugby and Cycling every week. They’re so dedicated in fact, that Little Lucy (as she’s known), agreed to forfeit her birthday party to take part. Turning 8 on the day of IronKid meant she had a decision to make but it was a pretty easy one. “I love doing the run”, she said “and it was even better because it was my birthday!” The IRONKIDS program inspires youth through sport and competition to lead active, positive and healthy lifestyles. Young athletes between the ages of 3 and 15 are invited to participate in a variety of events, including triathlon, aquathlon, duathlon and running races, many held during the days leading up to IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races. IRONKIDS participate in age-appropriate distances with an emphasis on safety, fitness and fun. IRONKIDS allows young athletes to experience the fun of healthy living and racing.

A Case of Holiday Happiness P

acking suitcases for holidays has taken on an additional dimension for a Fareham Rotarian and his wife due to the community spirit of a local supermarket. They have returned from a trip to South Africa where they distributed two large cases of clothing to families in a Township.

Linda Langdon, Charity Coordinator at Sainsbury’s Broadcut in Fareham, has worked with the Rotary Club of Fareham on various local community projects. In the course of that she heard about the work undertaken by Rotary across the globe. One such exercise was undertaken by Rotarian Tony Cove and his wife Sue in a Township in South Africa. They first went to South Africa on holiday five years ago and fell in love with the town of Knysna, some 300 miles from Cape Town, where they visited the local Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. The Coves enjoyed the hospitality of South African Rotarians, making new friends who they visit annually. This has enabled them to accompany the local Rotary members in their work in the nearby Township and see first-hand the difficulties experienced by families who live there.

Rotary Club of Locks Heath

O

ver the past few months the Rotary club has been very busy in our area, with providing entertainment, promoting a musical festival, participating in the Sarisbury Green Fete and taking the senior citizens for a trip to the coast for afternoon tea and entertainment. A variety show was produced and performed at the Victory Hall to an enthusiastic audience of senior citizens who were entertained by The Warsash Trad Jazz band headed by Dave Gasser. Also appearing, playing the Hammond organ, was David Bevis, delighting the audience with his specially selected repertoire. Highlighting the show was a group of young performers from The Otterbourne Drama Group, who travel around appearing at many types of venues mainly for charity. The evening was arranged by the Rotary Club as a complimentary event for the community. In addition a group of senior citizens were invited and treated to an afternoon by the sea at the Rotary Wheelhouse at Hill Head. As guests of The Inner Wheel of Locks Heath, they were given free transport to and from the venue and provided with afternoon tea and entertainment The entertainment was provided by a group of singers all being members of the University of the Third Age, some of which were also invited guests for the afternoon. The club were on display at the Sarisbury Green Fete providing fun and games for everyone to enjoy, also promoting the more serious side of Rotary informing our community of the activities we are involved with both at home and abroad. They have now reached the end of their Presidential year for 2013/2014. After a very successful year, Chris Milburn now retires from being President and has handed over the mantle of President to Stephen Kirby, all wish Stephen an enjoyable and successful year.

AUGUST 2014

Meanwhile, back home in Fareham, Linda Langdon and the team at Sainsbury’s had been considering what to do with surplus stock from their clothing department. The two projects came together when the Rotary Club of Fareham, through Tony Cove and his wife’s travels, made use of the excess garments to help meet the needs of the Township people in South Africa. Now, each year, several large cartons of clothes are handed over to Tony and Sue who sort them according to climate and size ready for distribution - some locally in the Fareham area and some 6,500 miles away in South Africa. Two extra suitcases are packed near to their weight limits with a high proportion of the clothes for the Township children who are just so fascinated by the price labels on the garments, something they are unaccustomed to having. As Tony Cove of the Rotary Club of Fareham said “We rely on the South African Rotarians to identify where the greatest needs exist and find journeying into the Township and handing out the clothes to be such a humbling experience. The effort is so worthwhile for the happiness it brings to the receiving families and it helps our Fareham Rotary Club’s international objectives too. It’s a case (or two) of happiness all round!”

Rotary Club of Hamble

J

uly saw the change of their President from Aline Blampied to Andrew Osbaldestin. Andrew is professor of Mathematics at Portsmouth University and has recently been involved in renormalisation in quasiperiodic systems and a study of universality in the Feigenbaum period-doubling scenario. (True!). They do not anticipate understanding a word he says during the course of the year (Not nearly so true!). In June and July they have been involved in a number of activities with the focus on youth. These activities have included the Young Carers’ Festival at Fairthorne, the KidsOut charity, which is supported by Rotary and a fabulous day out for Springwell School (a school for disadvantaged children in Thornhill) at Paultons Park. There was a youth project at Fairthorne Manor and two evenings at Wyvern College, one featuring their feeder schools and the other their Summer Concert. They are very grateful to the support of their ‘daughter clubs’ Bishops Waltham and Hedge End Breakfast in helping man the YCF. Rotary has an international face and many of you will know of the collection and distribution of ‘Shoeboxes’ at Christmas and fundraising for ‘Shelterboxes’ which are distributed when disasters occur, so it is worth mentioning ‘Polio Plus’ this month. Rotary is involved in the global campaign to eradicate this disease (they are getting very close) and this year has so far given rise to some worrying news as the virus has been carried to three countries: in central Asia (from Pakistan to Afghanistan), in the Middle East (Syria to Iraq) and in Central Africa (Cameroon to Equatorial Guinea). Conflict in the world has many consequences and unfortunately, polio is one of them. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to mention a local need please get in touch through their website hamblevalleyrotary.co.uk

Pet Care

Having a “Ruff” Day?

Nowadays it’s becoming increasingly hard for people to keep pets, with rising prices of care, food and insurance, but fortunately in the Informer area we have local independent pet care businesses that are able to help you out!

nimal shelters and pet shops are always looking for families who will be able to take good care of an animal over their lifetime.

It’s been known for a while now that keeping pets is therapeutic to all kinds of people, be it children getting their first big responsibility or adults to relieve stress, the benefits of keeping a pet seem to far outweigh any costs of keeping them. Pet owners aged over 65 make 30% fewer visits to their GP than those without pets and playing with a pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calms and relaxes your mind.

While people with dogs often experience the greatest health benefits, a pet doesn’t necessarily have to be a dog or a cat. Even watching fish in an aquarium can help reduce muscle tension and lower pulse rate. Owning a pet can help you make healthy lifestyle changes, like increasing exercise by taking them on walks, helping meet new people through pet groups and visits to pet care specialists and they can also reduce anxiety by giving you companionship. Congratulations to Lucia and Darren

This year, husband and wife Lucia and Darren Baxter celebrated

21 years

in the hairdressing and barbering business. This month, The Informer spoke to them wanting to find the secret of their success.

L

ucia and Darren relocated to the south coast in 1993 and, looking for a business venture,

made the life changing decision to open a

hairdressing salon. They opened their first unisex salon in Hedge End that year and it proved to be a wise choice. Lucia was already a L’oreal trained hairdresser at that time, so Darren had some catching up to do. He took a course in gents barbering with L’oreal and very soon the two of them were very much ‘hands on’ and running a successful business, both working from the same salon. 9 years later, with much experience and a loyal staff at their disposal, they were ready to expand. In 2002 they opened two further salons in Netley Abbey, a ladies and a gents next to each other. A fourth has followed, Baxters a gents barbers in Titchfield Common. Lucia and Darren now have a young family but even so working in different premises the couple may see less of each other than you might imagine, each with their own roles to play but always making sure they have plenty of time for their family and time together to make those crucial joint decisions that have made them such a successful partnership. When the Informer asked them if they would recommend, to a couple starting out, owning and running a business together Lucia said ‘yes’ and Darren said ‘no’. Of course he was joking, but this is a good illustration of the humour and understanding they have between them, a loving and respectful relationship that has no doubt kept them sane over the years.

42

AUGUST 2014

informergroup.co.uk

Keen business minds too have helped: when we suggested to Lucia that they must certainly be incredibly busy running four salons and caring for a young family, she shrugged and cited the help of the managers and staff they have in place that help them with the work load. So it seems delegation is the key. Lucia and Darren quietly get on with their jobs and what they can’t do themselves they have a trusted circle of staff that can. Opening their first salon, Lucia’s, back in 1993 was a proud day for Lucia and Darren and there have been many milestones since but their proudest moment must have been in 2004 when they waited anxiously for the results of the South of England Championship and then discovered they had won awards in ladies and gents cutting, styling, barbering, colouring and hair up for all occasions. If Lucia and Darren are as proud of anything now, it is of giving such a high standard of service and care. All their staff are gifted and creative individuals and the satisfaction of their clients, because of the service they have received, is a testament to their high level of professionalism. Darren and Lucia are grateful for their hard work and dedication over the years and would like to thank all their staff that have been with them and have been so loyal for many years, and of course all their clients, both old and new. Lucia and Darren would like to take the opportunity to welcome people to any of their salons for their next appointment. They said: “During your visit you will experience a friendly and professional service in a relaxed atmosphere. Your stylist will give you the best advice about your everyday hairstyle needs, whether it is a subtle but obvious change or a more modern style, colour or both, so you feel happy and confident with your look. We look forward to seeing you.”

Tattoo removal at Amanda of Botley

D

ecorative tattoos have a history dating back at least 5000 years. The desire to remove them has probably existed for just as long.

Early attempts to remove tattoos have had less than desirable results. The use of Dermabrasion, Salt-Abrasion and Argon or CO2 lasers have left behind scars in place of the tattoo. The advent of Q-Switched lasers has permitted the removal of most tattoo inks with a very low risk of scarring. The Episoft Q Nd:YAG laser is the laser of choice in this class of laser. The Episoft Q can significantly lighten or remove a wide variety of tattoo inks.

The Caci Jowl Lift

How many treatments will it take to remove a tattoo?

Specifically targets those loose muscles around the jawline,

On the average, professional tattoos require 6-8 treatments, while amateur tattoos require 4-5 treatments, all spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used, and the depth of the ink in the skin.

using quad probe applicators designed to double the lifting

The 15 minute facial treatment helps improve the appearance of sagging jowls by using the quad probes which have been specifically developed to target the muscles around the jawline. They emit tiny electrical impulses to lift, firm and

In many cases, yes. Greater than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is important to know that there are many, many types of tattoo inks in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Not knowing which tattoo ink was used, or how deeply it was applied, makes it impossible for the therapist to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo.

and the results are superb.

The laser emits light in very short pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a small rubber band on the skin. The majority of clients do not require anaesthesia, depending on the size and location of the tattoo. Numbing creams are available if needed. If this is something you are interested in or know someone who is call the salon today to book a consultation. Prices vary depending on the size of the tattoo but start at £50 per treatment.

I lost a third of my body weight with local hypnotherapist My name is Kirsteen and I started the Easyloss Weight Loss programme on 19th January 2013, weighing 15st 3lbs. I’d been depressed about my weight for a long time, but wasn’t one for diets, so the weight just crept up. However two things had happened which made me decide that I had to change. Firstly my 10yr old son, commented that I was fat, he liked it because I was cuddly but nonetheless I was fat, it felt like a knife going through me, he was right, but he had said it when nobody else would have dared. Then I went shopping in the January sales and I was unable to fit into size 18 trousers and so I decided I had to do something, I couldn’t bring myself to even try on a size 20. So I started the Easyloss Programme with Sue from the Hampshire Hypnotherapy Centre in Whiteley. In the first week I lost 5lbs and I took this as the proof that it did work! So I listened to Sue and I followed the guidelines. I ate the same as everyone else in my house ate, just a lot less of it. I went out for meals, enjoyed parties and even lost weight when on holiday.! By middle of July (just 6 months from when I started) I had lost 4st 8lbs, between then and November I lost a further 8lbs here or there and so now weigh about 10st. Total loss of over 5stone! I have a normal BMI and I wear size 10 trousers and have recently bought a size 8 top. I have more confidence, I take more pride in my appearance. I wear clothes that show off my figure, where in the past I would wear big sloppy tops to hide my body. I walk more, I smile more and I go out more. I no longer think about food all the time, but I really enjoy my food when I eat. Call Hampshire Hypnotherapy Centre on 07946 641270 or 0800 970 4776 or visit www.hantshypno.co.uk for information on how Easyloss can help you to lose weight without dieting.

World Challenge Expedition 2015 to Morocco With the support of her mum and Brookfield school, local student, Ellie Picton is about to embark on a life changing mission and she is asking the Informer readers for their support. Here is the letter she has written to all our readers: Please support me on my Big World Challenge Fund-Raising Journey!!

Finally, it would be great if every Informer reader could donate just £1 – doing so with the web address below which links directly to my official World Challenge Web Account:

My name is Eleanor Picton; I am a Yr. 10 student at Brookfield Community School. The school recently signed up for the World Challenge Expedition 2015 to Morocco.

https://www.myworldchallenge.com/make-a-contribution. asp?femid=911494&ch=mKI7p6 I have already held a raffle at my school with the prize being 4 VIP tickets kindly donated by the Odeon iMax cinema.

I applied for a place on the expedition by submitting a sample of a 12 month project plan to show how I might raise the funds to take part; as a result, I have been lucky enough to be one of the students selected for this life changing opportunity. The purpose of the expedition is to spend time helping a community facing deprivation including re-decorating a local school; second to that I will face a trek into the Atlas Mountains. I must raise my own travel and expedition costs to participate a total of £1,695.00 over the next 11 months; doing so through fundraising events, sponsors, donations, voluntary and community work. Now the fund-raising has begun, I have called on The Informer to assist me with reaching out to local businesses and the local community to raise the profile of my plight. Summer Raffles: My next step is set myself up a ‘World Challenge’ stall that I can take to the road with; I intend to sell cakes and fun activities/ challenges for families with the main attraction being ‘Summer Raffles’ from my stall at local community events through August & September To get this under-way, I need Informer readers’ help with the following: • Local event organisers/schools/community centres to notify me of any events they are holding where I can attend with my fund-raising stall • Donating a prize to my Summer Holiday Raffle - maybe an unwanted gift • Sponsorship from a local printing company to help with printing raffle tickets, and signage for my stall - in return for advertising their company at all my events over the next 11 months. Contact: ellieworldchallenge@outlook.com I am also looking for an Official Sponsor, and am asking any local business who would consider this to contact me; in return for their support and donation, I will advertise their company at events, through any public display/signage, and any local media coverage. I have been given the opportunity to have a fundraising ‘Family Fun Stall’ at the Wild West Festival at Fairthorne Manor - August 22nd -25th. The event is expected to attract a large volume of visitors, being a 4 day event, so I would like help with the following: • an official sponsor (in return Ellie will advertise their company at the event) • any offer of printing services (support of a local printer for banners/tshirts/raffle tickets etc - will be an advertising opportunity); • to call on businesses to donate a prize to the stall where we are holding a variety of fun activities raffle, tombola, treasure hunt, guess sweets in the jar, themed colouring competition, hoopla and a lucky dip etc. • for anyone to donate use of tables, gazebo, and any props to house the stall!!

New head announced at Boundary Oak

T

he Governors of Boundary Oak School in Fareham are celebrating the appointment of Mrs Hazel Kellet as the school’s new Headmistress. Formerly Head of Maths, Senior Prep and Acting Head at the school since May this year, Mrs Kellett will take on the role full term from September 2014. The mathematician has established a long and successful career at Boundary Oak having first contributed as a Governor in 2001 when her eldest son Harry started at the nursery. A year later Mrs Kellett joined the teaching staff and has since been providing invaluable contributions to the independent day and boarding school. Chairman of the Governors Mr Peter Carden said: “We are all extremely excited to welcome Mrs Kellett to the role in a permanent position. We are incredibly fortunate to have found someone of her calibre to take up the post who not only has an outstanding teaching record but also knows the school itself better than anyone. Her energy and enthusiasm to see every child reach their full potential is remarkable. “Mrs Kellett’s experience and expertise as both a teacher and a leader make her the perfect fit for this role at such an exciting time for the school.”

offers its pupils, parents and staff a community where everyone works together and as a result we are able to achieve truly great things. “Whatever the individual child’s needs, we provide the perfect balance of classroom and outdoor activities so that everyone can achieve their full potential. Outdoor activities enable each child to overcome whatever challenges they may face helping them to grow to be happy, comfortable and confident individuals.” Mrs Kellett is also recognised for her work within the local Scout community. In 1998 she set up the Hambledon Village Scout Group, which has grown to more than 100 members. Boundary Oak School, off Wickham Road, Fareham, caters for girls and boys between 3 - 13 years old. It’s set within 23 acres of rural countryside and includes a grade II listed building. Facilities include a swimming pool, football and rugby pitches, athletics track, a theatre and floodlit astro surface. www.boundaryoak.co.uk

Mrs Kellett added: “It’s a great honour to take on the position of Headmistress at Boundary Oak all three of my boys attended from nursery so I know what incredible things it can do for its pupils. “As a small school, we really take advantage of our ability to cater for the individual child and attaining the highest academic standards possible. Chip, putt and drive 7

50,000 children every year are now learning to play Tri Golf, a sport designed especially to teach children how to “chip, putt and drive”.

Hoodwinked Robin Hood reimagined

R

obin Hood, the king of thieves’, fight against his enemy the Sheriff of Nottingham is a classic tale, however at St. John the Baptist School in Titchfield Common, the pupils retold the story in a whole different way. Actors, singers and dancers from the school put together a performance with a comedic spin on the famous story, with all costumes and sets being designed and created by the school.

But for two teams of pupils at St. John the Baptist School in Titchfield Common, the game became a competition when they were entered into a National Tri Golf Tournament in Aldershot in June this year. The opportunity was given to the children, aged between 7 and 11 after, last year, one of the teams won the Hampshire & Isle of Wight annual competition at Cams Hill Secondary School. The game involves playing 3 events designed around golf where teams have to put the ball into a target, chip the ball into raised targets and drive the ball as far as they can. In the words of participant Chloe Worrell, year 5, “the competition looked scary when we first arrived but we realised that it was an exciting opportunity and it turned into lots of fun”. Overall, the year 3 and 4 team placed 2nd out of 10 teams and the Year 5 and 6 team came 8th out of eleven, an excellent result, congratulations to both teams. Words and image by Jake Mace

Robin Hood was played by Robson Simpson and he was joined by Erin Craythorn as Maid Marion and Tiffany Hunt as the Sheriff of Nottingham, in a show where the audience were invited onto the stage and involved in the story to create a hilarious and loveable performance. Words by Jake Mace

O

n the 23rd July Toybox Pre-School celebrated the end of term with a Graduation Ceremony.

Complete with mortar boards and gowns the children who will be starting school in September had their very own ceremony in the Sarisbury Green United Reformed Church watched by family and friends. After a few rehearsals they were perfect as they walked down the aisle to a special piece of music to be presented with their certificates by the Mayor of Fareham David Norris. It was sad to say goodbye but it was something to remember in years to come and everyone at Toybox wishes them luck in their new schools. July was a busy month because on the 4th July they celebrated a brilliant Ofsted Inspection with a visit to Toybox by Miniature Mayhem when the children could cuddle, groom and feed guinea pigs, rabbits, pygmy goats, miniature horses, baby chicks and ducklings. A big thankyou to Victoria and her helpers from Miniature Mayhem for a fantastic morning. Everything went like clockwork and the children had a fantastic memorable morning. If you would like any information about Toybox please ring Chris Jones on 07918 153621 or email c.jones346@btinternet.com.

Motoring

D

o your headlights look similar to the first picture? Did they start going dull and have gradually become worse, yellowing in colour and hazy? The summer sun damages the UV coating on certain headlights, typically on cars around 6 years old. With the onset of good weather recently, the process will speed up and gradually become severe enough to fail an MOT, as well as impede your night vision. It is not common knowledge, but these headlights can be repaired, rather than replaced, and could save approx 50% of the cost, usually far more. Maybe your paintwork doesn’t quite have the shine it used to? Is it ruined by swirls and scratches and only looks better if you polish it, but even this doesn’t last? Over time, poor washing technique can cause light scratches in the lacquer coat, which won’t be removed with polishing by hand. Using a machine polisher and 20 years experience in vehicle refinishing, Auto Brite can restore your paintwork to “better than new” condition, leaving it swirl free and easier to wash in future. At the Express Bodyshop in Segensworth, Auto Brite specialise in making your car look its’ best, with as little inconvenience to you as possible. Welcome to

Warsash

There’s lots happening in this waterside village, with new shops and eateries, and wonderful walks.

W

arsash is renowned as the starting point for some of Britain’s most beautiful waterside walks, but why not wander up the hill to the village centre to discover its eclectic, vibrant mix of independent shops and places to eat. Amazingly in this day and age, all the public car parks in Warsash are free! There’s parking opposite the supermarket, and also at the top of the village at Dibles Corner, the little triangle that’s quite suddenly become a creative hub and meeting place. There’s the bakery-cafe, a boutique full of glamorous and original separates and dresses, a hairdresser, florist, nautical bookshop and next door a newly opened art studio and gift shop. Being on the Hamble River, with its yachts and waterside mansions, Warsash is an obvious place to find upmarket estate agents, as well as Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches and Mercs in one of Hampshire’s top specialist car showrooms – there’s always a new dream-car in the window and everyone is welcome to browse. But unlike some villages in popular coastal counties, Warsash hasn’t become a snooty ‘Chelsea on Sea’, remaining down to earth and welcoming to all. A number of pubs offer remarkably good meal deals, one with a lovely garden where children and dogs can frolic, perfect for whiling away the afternoon with a bottle of chilled wine for under a tenner. Another village pub puts on live music near the Clock Tower roundabout on summer Sunday afternoons - don’t miss the relaxed mood on the outdoor decking. For breakfast or a light-bite lunch, try the bakery or little Italian cafe, the latter with an outdoor area where dogs can slurp a bowl of water after a long walk while his human companion revives with an espresso or latte. Or sit down over a heartier, Mediterranean-style lunch at the new restaurant that’s also open for morning coffee and dinner. Local ladies (and increasingly gents) no longer need to travel into town for their manicures, massages and tans now that a village-centre beauty

boutique takes care of all those needs. The minute you step inside you feel the stress slip away. It even has a licence so you can sip a glass of bubbly as you relax. What a perfect way to prepare for a special occasion…. speaking of which one of the South’s best-known purveyors of prom, party and wedding dresses is, you’ve guessed it, in Warsash. Those in the know come to the village from far and wide, seeking out the hairdresser with staff newly trained in the trendy ‘ombre’ technique, the rare fish and chip shop that serves rock salmon, the art-framer who’ll find the perfect colour and style for a precious painting or photograph, even a pet shop that stocks the hard-to-find raw, grain-free meals that keep ‘naturally-fed’ animals healthy these days. As the summer sunshine is attracting more and more walkers (many with pooches, this is village full of dog-friendly places for a rest and refreshments after a long stroll) many of them end up enjoying a cool drink down by the river. Locals are convinced that there’s no better place to be. The pub on the waterfront is open all day, just take a cool drink, find a bench with a grandstand view of the water, and stay for an hour or two watching the boats go by. Family Fun Weekend at the Silver Fern

N

athan “Spuddy” Ward used to work at the Silver Fern and was such a special member of their team. He had a long and hard battle with cancer but sadly lost the fight on the 16th January 2012. He still remains firmly in the hearts of those that knew him and worked with him and as a team they have chosen the registered charity of Brain Tumour Research as their focus for this year’s Family Fun Weekend.

Brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer deaths in the young - and research funding is falling, so they want to hold their Family Fun Day in memory of their friend and colleague Nathan and to help support others who are suffering this awful disease in the hope they survive. Family Fun WEEKEND (Friday 22nd - Monday 25th August) with special appearances and activities with Peppa Pig and Bouncy Castle, culminating in Bank Holiday Mondays events to include Bouncy Castle, Go Karting, Pole Jousting, Peppa Pig Bouncy castle and soft play, Live Jazz and lots of other fun and games. Local landscapers win Silver Gilt Medal at Hampton Court Flower Show H

ampshire based Hambrooks has won a Silver Gilt medal for its ‘Halo’ show garden at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Sponsored by The Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) and the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) for the category ‘Your Budget Your Garden’, it is part of a scheme to bring to the general public’s attention what is achievable within particular budgets. Hambrooks Garden Designer Stuart Towner created a Mediterranean themed garden based on the imagery of a classic Greek island with a modern interpretation of the Greek Orthodox Church dome, symbolised by a ring of blue steel. The garden sets out to show how even a small courtyard garden can be theatrical in style yet easily meet today’s lifestyle expectations where outdoor spaces are revered as extensions of our indoor living areas and primarily used for entertaining or for relaxing.

I have created something that visitors to the show love because they feel it is real – something they could have for themselves and not just a showpiece and as a designer that’s the very best accolade.”

It was featured on the BBC 2 programme RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show on Thursday 11th July and was praised for its imaginative planting combinations together with the attractive seating areas.

Managing Director Norman Hambrook says it is great to have these opportunities to showcase garden design for small gardens as it will help to boost the landscaping industry. This is because it demonstrates to the general public that well designed gardens are not beyond their reach.

Stuart Towner said, ”It felt wonderful to be awarded a Silver Gilt for my first show garden but the icing on the cake for me is the realisation that

Bursledon Regatta Bunting wafts in the breeze, the scent of sausages on the grill tempts your tastebuds, and the sound of children’s laughter fills the air. In the beer tent friendly locals pull pints of foaming ale - or they’ll serve you a cider if that’s your summer fizz.

S

o far, it could be any other country fair, but this one is different. There’s water involved. We’re beside a river, there’s a carnival of decorated dinghies (floats, literally) and grown adults in fancy dress and face paint are throwing buckets of water over each other. Small boats race at full pelt, rowed by people in blindfolds. No wonder they bump into each other.

There’s serious competition too - muscular young men pump the oars of their “gig” racing boats, eliciting either admiring glances or flickers of envy. This is the annual Bursledon, Swanwick and Warsash Regatta, a traditional get-together on the August bank holiday weekend, run by families and friends on the River Hamble, and everyone is invited to join in. Warning - you might get wet! The action happens in the chocolate-box-pretty village of Bursledon, at one of the Solent’s last remaining traditional boatyards, The Elephant. Spectators watch and cheer from The Elephant’s foreshore, as well as from the atmospheric Jolly Sailor pub next door. This is the regatta’s 30th anniversary, but there have been annual boat races on the river since 1899. Events have changed over the years. The popular ‘four-man paddling with hands’ originated as ‘with shovels’, while these days there are rubber-dinghy races and this year the popular sport of Paddleboarding is making its debut. Two families who have been involved in regatta for generations are the Foulkes who run the Riverside Yard and Chandlery Barge (a floating

emporium of nautical necessities) and the Richardsons who own the Elephant Boatyard. This August, the theme is Circus. Expect a ‘big top’, lots of clowns, a lion tamer or two, even acrobats. You don’t need to dress up, but if you want to you’ll be in good company. A few years ago, Mum would have been up all night making costumes for the children but now that all youngsters seem to own an animal onesie no doubt there will be lots of monkeys, lions and elephants and maybe the odd crocodile straight out of the cupboard. From mid-day till 18.00 there will be refreshments, a barbeque, children’s games, novelty stalls, on the foreshore at the Elephant Boatyard, and the Jolly Sailor is open all day. Make sure you’re there for 14:30 for the Opening Ceremony featuring “aerial silk” acrobatics high above the water, followed by the races swimming, rowing, paddling, sailing and much more. At around 15:30 the carnival of decorated boats parades past the pub and boatyard under the scrutiny of the judges. Here’s your chance to marvel at the ingenuity, skill and sense of humour of the people who’ve turned an ordinary rowing boat or sailing dinghy into a floating work of art. Saturday night always climaxes with an incredible fireworks display far bigger than you’d expect for a local regatta, funded by well-wishers and local companies. One year, the fireworks were concealed in a giant space-rocket that ‘took off’ several feet when they lit the touch paper.

Remember Howard’s Way? Readers with long memories might recognise the Elephant and Jolly Sailor as locations in Howard’s Way, the TV soap that had the nation gripped on Sunday evenings in the 1980s. Those of a certain age still recall the goings-on of perma-tanned Ken Masters, suave Charles Frere and a string of glamorous Dynastyesque women played by the likes of Kate O’Mara. But the real stars of the show were the grizzly boatyard owner and his cherished wooden sheds and rickety pontoons, reeking with maritime history. That characterful old boatyard is almost miraculously unchanged, though the reallife owner, Tom Richardson, is of a more cheerful disposition than his fictional counterpart and welcomes visitors to the Elephant to share the regatta’s annual revelry. Photos of previous years’ regattas by Glyn Foulkes

Timetable - Elephant Boatyard Saturday 30th August 12:00-18:00 Afternoon Events. Fancy dress encouraged.

Bar, Tea and Refreshment Tent, BBQ, Whisky Draw, children’s games/novelty stall and tombola.

14:30 Opening ceremony followed by aquatic events and children’s fancy dress parade. 15:30 (approx). Water Carnival. 18:00 Prize Giving for Dinghy Races and afternoon events, Pig Roast and Bar. 20:45 Grand Finale – Torchlight parade of dinghies, Grand Firework display. 21:30 REGATTA CLOSE

Sunday 31st August Yacht racing in the morning (not at the Elephant, starts and finishes in Southampton Water). Gig racing in the afternoon

How to visit Entry to the Elephant Boatyard is free. See website bursledonregatta.co.uk for details of the events and how to get there. The Elephant Boatyard is in Bursledon, a small village on the banks of the River Hamble, just off the A27 between Southampton and Fareham. Parking is extremely limited. You may be lucky and find a space in the railway station car park from where you can walk up a footpath to the road, or you get there very early you might find a space on a nearby road. A good option would be to take the train to Bursledon station; it’s only a short walk to the Elephant and Jolly Sailor. By fireworks time, the Elephant and Jolly Sailor are bursting at the seams, but you can get a great view from the A27 bridge over the Hamble River, or the Swanwick shore, or the Boat House bar in Swanwick Marina. Or if you have a boat, you can moor on the Elephant’s pontoons. How to enter the events Fancy a short swimming race? These events are run from the Jolly Sailor pub’s pontoon. For more details see the website.

Words by Sarah Norbury

Paddleboarders are invited to enter this very first year of the sport being included in the regatta, and anyone with a suitable boat can enter the rowing and sailing races, or the decorated float competition. Entry forms are on the website.

What’s On

Art trail for Fareham A local disabled artist, Beth Davis-Hofbauer has launched Fareham’s largest art event.

F

areham Art Trail takes place between 23rd-30th August in various locations throughout the town and surrounding areas. The event will be officially opened by MP and former Government minister, Mark Hoban at the trail preview and celebration on Thursday 21st August. Beth told The Informer; “With various exhibitions, public art events, an exhibition of school age children’s work and much more, this new event on the south’s art calendar is bound to have something for everyone. One of the highlights of the week is the Big Southern Art Swap that takes place on Bank Holiday Monday at the Bandstand in the town centre.” She explained; “This will offer locals a chance to bring down their artwork, poetry, crafts and found art and swap it with other people: no money will change hands. The one condition being, people must take something and they must write one positive thing about the piece they have chosen. The collected notes of positivity will be turned into a textual art piece celebrating the event at the end of the trail.” Beth said that she; “Wanted to help showcase the talent of local artists like herself; promote local businesses and venues showing the rest of the region what they have to offer and to give people a chance to access work they might not have been able to see before, making art more accessible to all.” The theme of accessibility runs throughout the event; all exhibitions are family friendly and there will be wheelchair access to everything taking place over the week. Beth told us that it was vital to make this an inclusive event as she is a wheelchair user herself and her son is disabled; “We really want to help make art as accessible to people as we can,” she commented. “Art is an amazing thing for a multitude of reasons and yet so many people view it as something that is not for them and they feel uncomfortable visiting art galleries. We want to show them that that is a misconception, art is for everyone and they have every right to enjoy it. “This is a chance for Fareham to shine and to show the rest of the south that we are more than a quiet market town and home of call centres.”

Poet-in-Residence at Jane Austen’s House Museum Jane Austen’s House Museum has been successful in its bid to have a Poet in Residence. From August poet Maura Dooley will be working with the Museum on a number of writing related projects.

Maura Dooley

M

aura, who teaches at Goldsmiths College, University of London and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, has published a number of collections of poetry including her most recent book Life Under Water. She has also edited a number of anthologies of verse and essays including The Honey Gatherers: Love Poems and How Novelists Work. Maura has twice been short-listed for the T.S.Eliot Award. Maura said “I am really delighted and feel truly honoured to become the Poet-in-Residence at Jane Austen’s House Museum. Many people may ask ‘Why a poet-in-residence at the home of such a novelist?’ but Jane Austen wrote poems herself, often mentions the poets of her day in her letters and in the novels gives her characters keen opinions of poetry. In Mansfield Park, Fanny looks out at the starlit night and remarks: ‘Here’s what may leave all painting and all music behind, and what poetry only can attempt to describe!’. I will do my best to make that attempt!”

Annalie Talent, Education Officer, said “Maura brings a wealth of experience as a published poet and tutor to the Museum. She will spend about a day a week at the Museum throughout the coming months and will organise workshops, readings and other poetry inspired activity while also working on her own poetry.” The Museum ran a successful writerin-residence programme with novelist Rebecca Smith in 2009-10 and has continued to host workshops and other writing activities introduced during that residency. Jane Austen’s House Museum is this year celebrating the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mansfield Park Austen’s first book to have been written entirely at Chawton. The residency will give students and writers, published and unpublished, the opportunity to respond to the house and village where Jane lived and worked. The residency is funded by a grant from Arts Council England.

Winchester hosts Cameron, Clegg, Miliband, Farage and Obama Yes, it’s absolutely ‘true’. For the very first time David, Ed, Nick, Nigel, Barack and Boris (Johnson) will all be in the same room together debating their political views. However, there’s a twist in this tale. Jewry Street Gallery (artcafe), opposite the Theatre Royal, is hosting the political portrait exhibition ‘Machiavellian boy scouts and the haphazard art of misdirection’ by satirist Mark Michael. If you have already seen Mark Michael’s depiction of Dominic Hiscock entitled _The Dominator_ at Portraits 14, you’ll know what to expect. The show depicts our political powerhouses and hopefuls in a way that you have probably never seen before. It is guaranteed to make you laugh, or a least provoke a wry smile. Here’s a clue as to why: each political figure proffers a surprising totem. Mark Michael was dubbed one the best artists in the world today by the art investor, James Early and was one of the 3 participating artists in ‘9 out of 10 Humans believe’ at PORTRAITS 14. The show runs until September.

T

here is always fun to be had at Longdown Farm throughout the year, but especially during the summer. They have a full schedule of daily hands-on animal activities, as well as lots of fabulous indoor and outdoor play areas.

Children can enjoy bottle-feeding goat kids and calves, meeting the pigs or cuddling a baby rabbit or chick. They might even get to stroke a piglet! Go and meet their new babies, there’s always a new arrival somewhere on the Farm – some much bigger than others! Keep a close eye on the incubator, where you may see a chick emerging from its egg. Or search for warm, freshly-laid eggs in the chickens’ house to take to the shop, and receive a sticker. Their popular pony riding* is available throughout the school holidays for under 7s. And you may even get the chance to ride on a horse-drawn carriage pulled by Suffolk Punch horses*. Everyone’s favourite is the tractor ride – hold on tight, it’s REALLY bumpy! (Ground conditions permitting). Longdown Activity Farm has three large indoor play areas, which include a ball pool, lots of trampolines, and a huge straw barn for the children to run off all that energy. A large outdoor play area and picnic tables provide the perfect spot for a picnic. So, whatever the weather, there’s always something to do and somewhere to sit. NEW this year: they are now on the New Forest Bus Tour (red route). Enjoy a scenic trip through the Forest and stop off at the Farm for a visit. 20% off Longdown Activity Farm admission with valid Tour Bus tickets (cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount). Daily service until 14.09.14.

Weddings and All Other Special Occasions Licensed Bar at no extra charge and Facilities for up to 200 people

After a day at the Activity Farm, don’t forget to visit the gift shop for a souvenir of your day or the brilliant Longdown Farm Shop, which is situated at the entrance to the Farm. The Farm Shop stocks a wide range of delicious locally produced food such as meat, vegetables, bread, dairy products, and much more. There is no charge to visit Longdown Farm Shop. graduate of Winchester School of Art, Beverley has exhibited widely in the UK and sold paintings around the world.

Children will receive a goody bag to take home and play games to learn about tooth care without even realising they are learning. Jacquie and Claire, oral health educators at TDH are looking forward to welcoming some young friends for another noisy time!

She has been teaching art to adults for six years offering painting days, individual tutoring and weekly classes on Wednesday mornings and evenings at Meadowside Centre, Whiteley, Friday afternoons in Burridge plus a new local Thursday morning class from September.

The 20th anniversary of Clare Chavasse starting in the caravan in the Titchfield Community Centre car park was in 2013 and Titchfield Dental Health has been open at their present site in Park Gate for 8 ½ years and have continued to grow by referrals from happy patients.

Suitable for beginners and intermediates the classes cover all subjects whilst being carefully structured to lead you through the core skills of: drawing and observation, colour mixing, composition, perspective and much more. There are demonstrations most weeks along with plenty of individual attention and encouragement.

Six Months Smiles is a short term adult orthodontic (teeth straightening) treatment which has been especially popular and with the introduction of implants and cosmetic treatments the practice has gone from strength to strength.

Students supply own materials. Twelve two hour sessions cost £120. For more information or to book a place on one of her courses please call Beverley on 07745 158818 or contact her through her website at: www.beverleydaniels.co.uk

Sharon Nanson, Practice Manager at Titchfield Dental Health, said “we want to give something back to the community that has welcomed us into their midst and helped us grow and what better way than by sharing our knowledge of how to stay dentally healthy with the younger members of our community”

Due to the success of the Children’s Fun day held in half term we are having another one!

Shareholder and Partner Protection

I

f you are a business owner and have fellow partners or shareholders, have you asked yourself the ‘what if’ question?

No one wants to think about the worst happening but there could be serious consequences if a strategy is not in place. There are many compelling reasons for a business to take out a protection policy. • Added peace of mind that your business could be financially secure. • Helps protect a partner or director’s financial share in the business in the event that the worst happens. • Eases the pressure on business owners to return to work How are shareholders and partners protected? Business Protection can help to protect both the existing shareholders and in the process provide financial security for the family beneficiaries. Regardless of whether the business is run as a partnership, LLP or limited company, when a business is run by unconnected parties (or families where succession is not assured) the death or incapacity of an owner is likely to cause serious disruption to the business and problems for both the business and the family of the owner concerned. Ideally there should be an agreement so that the surviving business owners have the right to purchase the deceased owner’s share of the business. Similar arrangements should be put in place for the circumstance where a business owner becomes seriously ill or incapacitated. Should you wish to discuss or review your Business Protection Needs, please contact Sheila Tarr I.F.S Ltd on 01489 574355 or ifs@sheilatarr.co.uk.

D

river Belcher’s family law department provides an individual service suited to your needs and individual situation. They understand that family issues involve complex emotions, even in amicable circumstances, and that relationship breakdown can be traumatic. They are committed to resolving disputes in a sensitive way, preserving the dignity of all those involved but with an acceptable outcome. Their Family Law department can advise you on many areas of family law including: • Divorce • Resolution of finances • Separation • Cohabitation • Children matters • Pre-nuptial agreements • Post-nuptial agreements • Pre-civil partnership agreements • Civil partnership dissolution Their family solicitors are members of Resolution the national organisation of family lawyers who are committed to resolving disputes in a non-confrontational way. They firmly believe that family law disputes should be dealt with in a constructive way designed to encourage agreements and thereby minimise legal costs. They recognise the importance to many clients of avoiding the stress and costs of court proceedings in family law cases. As a team they have years of experience in litigation which allows them to recognise the careful balance to be maintained between negotiation on the one hand and the use of the court on the other, to achieve successful outcomes They will discuss these options in detail with you at the outset so that you can make an informed decision as to which process is right for you and your circumstances. The team has developed a particular expertise in advising on financial resolution, both upon relationship breakdown and in anticipation of marriage or civil partnership. They regularly work with other professionals, including accountants, financial/tax advisors and chartered surveyors, to offer you a full service and tailored advice specific to your financial circumstances and needs. Please contact Victoria Baker on 01489 785737 for an initial consultation.
