It’s our anniversary! In a month like this, but in 2016, our first edition hit the shelves and we haven’t stopped since then. Therefore, we want to take this space to congratulate and thank our entire community and all the writers, advertisers, and professionals who have collaborated so that we can continue with our mission. We have been educating and uniting the Alaska Latino community and bringing truthful information for the past seven years so that we can understand the context of local, national, and international events, and transform that understanding into action to create a better world, especially in this moment full of polarization and hyper-partisanship. And the best part is that we don’t plan to stop.

We started our coverage with a simple but important clarification, explaining that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day, but the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, and commenting how curious it is that this celebration, which is not so prominent in Mexico, has become so important in the USA. From there, we have served as a connector between the diverse culture of Latin America and the United States. We have covered regional crises such as Venezuela’s democratic slide, protests in Cuba and Chile, and a wide variety of traditions from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. However, in addition to including valuable content about the COVID-19 pandemic, national and international politics, our heart is local, and we have focused much of our coverage on the activities of the Anchorage Assembly, local elections, and all aspects of Alaska’s social and political life. política nacional y sucesos internacionales, nuestro corazón es local, y hemos enfocado mucha de nuestra cobertura en las actividades de la Asamblea de Anchorage, las elecciones locales y todos los aspectos de la vida social y política de Alaska.

During these seven years, we have explored new technologies and adapted to cutting-edge communication trends, and now, our digital reach is more than 10,000 accounts per month. The vast majority in our state. We have also innovated with information campaigns such as COVIDatos Alaska, Tu Voz Importa, and other exciting collaborations in the near future. It has been an honor to become a key piece of our community.

However, now that we live in difficult times, where misinformation is gaining strength, and hatred seems to take root in the hearts of many, and where, despite having more ways to communicate, we understand each other less, it is more vital than ever that local journalism focused on our communities remains firm. We are committed to doing so, and as a birthday gift, we ask you to continue supporting us: by donating on our website, promoting your business, sharing information on social networks, and most importantly, by reading and learning with us. Let’s continue learning because our future is great.
