Join forces with us

Driving change for health, climate and nature from the ground up.

We are the Soil Association

Our charity mission is to help everyone understand and nurture the vital relationship between the health of soil, plants, animals, and people.

We recognise that there is no simple solution to solve our intertwined climate, nature, and health crisis.

We focus on systems change; working with everyone from farmers to school chefs and politicians to transform the way we eat, farm and care for our natural world, by:

Supporting the adoption of nature-friendly farming practices to restore and regenerate our fragile ecosystems, biodiversity and soil health

Certifying 26 million hectares of sustainably managed forest in over 36 countries

Supporting vital individual and community training around how to change food systems in local areas

Campaigning and advising to ensure government policies support a sustainable future for all

Working with UK caterers to put locally sourced, fresh produce on our plates. To date, we’ve helped serve 2.6 billion meals that meet our Food for Life animal welfare and sourcing standards

Why soil?

The Soil Association is the charity joining forces with nature for a better future.

Here’s a look at why supporting our soil is essential…

For people…

95% of the food we eat relies on soil.

Without soil, we cannot grow food to eat. Every minute, we lose the equivalent of 30 football pitches of fertile soil due to degradation.

For planet…

Healthy soil can store more carbon than all the trees, forests, and atmosphere combined.

Addressing our carbon emissions is essential to mitigating climate change and preventing temperatures from rising, to reduce harm to our environment.

For nature…

A single teaspoon of healthy soil contains up to 10 billion organisms –supporting our biodiversity and the entire ecosystem.

Due to human activity, less than half of the UK’s biodiversity remains. We need an alternative food system that is truly sustainable.

Why support us

We know that saving the Earth starts from the ground up.

Since 1946, our organisation has impacted millions of people by creating practical, nature-based solutions to recover climate, nature and health through sustainable and regenerative food, farming and forestry.

Our ‘Grow Better Together’ strategy to 2030 states our vision for bringing about positive change by working in partnership. By joining forces, we can build a hopeful future.

Our work would not be possible without the collaboration and support from our Corporate Partners.

Triodos Bank

A partnership based on shared values

Triodos, a leading expert in sustainable banking, rewards every customer referral with a charitable donation of their choice. In 25 years of partnership, Triodos have donated nearly half a million pounds to support our critical work on the ground.

Dentons

Supporting those on the frontline

We all know a local food hero who is supporting their community within a broken food system. My Food Community is a Soil Association programme that teaches these heroes how to overcome challenges and build food resilience, tackle poverty and advocate for solutions.

Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, came on board in 2024 to supply the critical grants needed to afford tools, expand their work, and reach more people in need of support.

“This funding has been crucial in helping us work towards becoming a local sustainable food hub for the community. It has enabled us to build infrastructure that will be of benefit for many years to come.“

Ocado

Transforming the farm to fork journey

We’ve joined forces with online supermarket Ocado to address the decline of the UK’s natural environment – which poses an estimated 12% loss to the UK’s GDP.

In a transformational new project, five UK farms will help drive the adoption of nature and climatefriendly farming practices around the UK, each focusing on a different area of farming (including dairy cows and orchard fruit).

The partnership will support research to advance farm animal welfare, working closely with farmers to demonstrate how providing animals with a good life is practical, profitable and sustainable. Our Farm to Fork ambassadors programme will also encourage sustainable food providers to share experiences with others in the industry.

“By working with farmers who are pioneering agroecological farming practices, we’re increasing the quality, freshness and sustainability of the food we’re able to offer our customers.“

Blue Diamond

Encouraging naturefriendly gardening

The Soil Association is committed to working with all people to care for our natural world. With 44 stores in the UK and Channel Islands, the Blue Diamond garden centre group has a huge customer base interested in growing, and together we’re advocating for nature-friendly gardening to build a greener future.

As well as sharing our sustainable gardening guides with their customers, we also partnered up for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023, where we ran a stand to educate people on the importance of soil health and the actions we can all take in our own back gardens to look after our soil.

Deloitte

Advancing the transition to sustainable catering

We are proud to be one of Deloitte’s WorldClimate Collaborators. Cool Food Pro is a tool which supports caterers around the world in managing the impact of their menus and purchasing, recommending low-carbon alternatives and local ingredients. With Deloitte’s support, we are enriching the tool with ingredients-level environmental impact data and an enhanced user experience.
