Karachi(Hareem Shabbir) Film experts are of the view that there is resurgence in Pakistani film but to make it full blown revival we require to invest sources and passion in Paksitani film craft. These views were expressed by film scholars and practitioners like film writer, director and producer Syed Noor, Film critic and owner of Evernew studio Agha Aijaz Gul, Academic Dr. Wajeeha Rizva, Dr. Sohail Mehmood and film producer and director Nabeel Qureshi and Fiza Khan in the conference on “ Resurgence of Paksitani cinema: Thematic and technical review of 21st century film production” held in Uziar auditorium of Jinnah University for women. Conference started with the inaugural speech of Agah Aijaz Gul ,son of revered film personality and owner of Pakistan 1st and largest film studio the “EVERNEW STUDIO” Agha G.A Gull. He briefed audience about the history of Pakistani cinema, mentioned the names of films, directors, producers and actors of golden era of Pakistani Cinema, who were once the pillars and pioneers of Pakistani Cinema. He also apprised listeners that there were over 700 cinemas in 1979 and lamented the fact that now there are hardly 200 cinemas in Pakistan. Syed Noor, who has served 49 years in Pakistani film industry as a famous film producer and director,was the keynote speaker in the event. Iin meager resources with professional zeal.

‘Fun Mela’ showers color and Enthusiasm

Karachi(Laila): A fun gala mela held at campus on account of Pakistan day, 23th March 2019 in which students enthusiastically participated. National songs, cultural presentation and stage performances were part of festivities. Tabloos based on patriotic themes were also played. Students cheered with full spirit on these performances. A section of venue was

designated as stall area where 100 stalls were set up offering visitors different varieties of accessories, including clothes (both stitched and unstitched), ), food items( including Golgappa,Pani puri, Khousa ,Dahi puri , Papri Chaat , Biryani,Spagetti , Kulfi ,Meethy pan, variety of desserts and many more...) . Also there were stalls of different brands which sell their products at wholesale

In his keynote address NOOR said that in past there was majority of uneducated and illiterate people in film industry however they worked in meagre resources with professional zeal. Referencing the digital revolution he said there are more educated and professionally equipped young professionals are holding the bacon of film resurgence however the lake the passion. In technical terms he noted that script and screen play of modern Pakistani movies is heavily compromised. He highlighted the point that Government never supported the film industry and industry endured the lack of funding for long, luckily now private sector and channels are making digital films and hence Resurgence of Pakistani Cinema has started. First research paper was presented by honorable Dr Sohail Mehmood which had topic (“priorities, concerns and expectation of youth from 21st century Pakistani cinema and film production. In his research he found that young respondents criticized the films the visual pleasure through sensual and sexual imagery and proposed to balance it with content and script. The young audience has changed priorities and new set of concerns and in order to get their films hit film producers require to get familiar with them.

Noreen Sultana presented the research paper on the topic “ Psychological effects of Pakistani movies on General Audience” case study of Sargodha, in which she

audio learning and conceptual learning positive and negative impact on mental health. Surveys, content analysis and focus group interviews were conducted. In her presentation she suggested that movies should be thought provoking. Mental health can also be curable through film therapy. She suggested that psychologist must be part of movie making team.

Third and last research paper was presented by Miss Sadaf Ahmed Khan.

The topic of research paper was “Content analysis between boll wood and loll wood movies against each other’s countries”. In this research she checked and categorized the content in abusive language, distortion of religious and cultural values and aggression towards eachother countries. For theoretical perspective she applied three theories, such as social responsibility, Magic bullet theory and cognitive theory. In the end she concluded that Indian media content misguides its nation and Pakistani movies are more factual and reality based. After third paper there was question session pro chancellor address the audience and distributed shields and certificate to speakers , guest , and organizers at 1;30 left auditorium for lunch .at 2;30 scholars and professionals had a dialogue on way out for Pakistani filming 21st century .

The event was organized by management of Jinnah University For Women with the coordination of Miss Neelum Sheikh,Miss Saba Naz and Miss Gulnaz. End speech note was given by pro vice Chancellor Mr. Wajihuddin who highly appreciated and encouraged their spirit of patriotism. program ended at 3 pm with the national anthem.

multi-disciplinary Circulation Library set up

Pharmacy, Eastern medicine, Biotechnology and chemistry students will benifit from newly established Library.

Karachi (Laila): A Seminar circulation library has been opened for the students of Pharmacy (both evening and morning), Eastern medicine (evening), Bio-technology and Chemistry. Miss Saba Shakeel is the in-charge of this library.

Currently there are 2,247 books of Chemistry, 3850 books of Pharmacy, 238 books of Eastern Medicine and 624 books of Bio-technology. Miss Sumiya Majeed and Miss Ruksana are appointed as assistants in this library.

Pharma D has a proud distention by pitching and winning two projects from ORIC. One project “Formulation of herbal tea-bags for diabetics” was pitched by PI: Sana Sarfaraz.; Co-PI: Humera Khatoon, Mahwish Fatima. This project secured funding of 100000 Rs.

Got 1st position on their Poster presentation in 1st Undergraduate “Research Expo 2018” organized by Liaquat national hospital and medical college on 22nd January 2018. Students of Pharm-D also presented posters and models in JUW-STEM Exhibition held on 10th October 2018 at Jinnah University for Women Exhibition Hall. The Department houses modern laboratory facilities for its undergraduate and Research students and is equipped with essential equipment/ instruments including all basic paradigms for neurobehavioral studies, hematology analyzer, Blood biochemistry analyzer, hot-plate analgesia meter, Plethysmometer, Isolated tissue assembly and PowerLab.

English Department holds Poster Exhibition

Karachi (Shaista Yousuf) The English Department arranged a Research poster presentation on 19th Feb 2019 .The aim of this presentation was to inculcate practical presentation skills among students to explain their research topics, methodology, findings and conclusion to interested audience. This was arranged by MS.Samreen Humayun, Ms Rabeea Mumtaz and Ms.Quratullain Zohaib .Students of BS/MA Literature and Linguistics displayed their posters. A large number of students and faculty members of all departments visited the poster exhibition. Dr. Bushra and Dr. Fatima Dar, two renowned linguists from Karachi University and Iqra University were invited to evaluate the work done. Both the dignitaries were highly appreciative of the skills, competence and knowledge of these students. They thought that their excellent work can inspire and motivate students of other universities. On this occasion Joint Research projects between JUW and other universities were also suggested.

Food Department visits Dar ul Sehat, Participates in a seminar on Nutrition.

Karachi (Nazish ghulam ali and sania yousuf), The student of food science and technology( BS 1st year fall and final year) visited Darulsehat in order to attend the seminar related to nutrition with their faculty members (Miss Anum liaquat(HOD of DFST), Miss Kanza ( lecturer) and Miss aminah, Miss saniya ,Miss nida and Miss Aqsa( co-operative lecturer). The visit started with the introductory speech of chairperson darul sehat afterwards the season was joined by different nutritionist, they guided all the students about their daily requirements of meal and how to fulfill their requirements. The most discuss questions of the seminar was diet and how they relate to different disease. At the end of seminar a photo session was arranged for Jinnah University for women’s students and all for all the faculty members and also a delicious lunch was served for all the attenders.

Dr. Bushra and Saima Bano of Islamic Learning attend conference in Jamshoro University

Karachi (Amna Ashraf Usman) Dr. Bushra and Miss Saima Bano of Islamic learning department participated in 2 day national conference in university of Jamoshoro. Conference was held with the help of HEC and its topic was problem of women in Pakistan and their solution in the light of Islamic learning. Faculty of Islamic learning participate in research and thought exchange activities. Department is going to organize a seminar of women motivation. Prior to this Dr. Bushra attended a conference on importance of social science and humanities in the contemporary world, with reference to the world peace under university of Karachi on 5th December 2018 Karachi. Miss Tahira attended the international conference on “Social responsibility and world religion’s” in Minhaj university Lahore, on 20-21 October 2018.

‘Capital Market’ expounded

Karachi (Laila): A lecture session was held on ‘ Capital Market Of Pakistan’ at Muhammad Uzair Auditorium. Speakers at the occasion were Mr . Faiq , marketing head of National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited and Mr. Abdul Muid, marketing officer of NCCP. The guests explained the process of stock trading and answered the queries of students regarding stock trading. Though intended main audience were the students who have opted for finance as a major subject in their scheme of studies however students of other disciplines also participated in it. It was organized by Miss Mehar Atif, lecturer of commerce department.

Karachi (Laila): At Karachi Literature Festival, students of JUW had a unique chance to interact with two renowned contemporary female writers, Haseena Moin and Deborah Baker. Visiting students mostly belonging to English department attended 2 main sessions there. 1st session was started at 11 am, the topic of discussion was ‘Filmi gaany and urdu shairi’. Haseena Moin (dramatist/playwright) and Sultan Arshad (head of music department Hum Tv) had a discussion on how filmi music retarded the public appreciation of poetry. In this discussion, Haseena Moin said that ‘ It is coincidence that proves vital in people lives. Referring her carrier she told that she never went out in search of work rather it were GoD sent people who brought her great opportunities. The next session was on ‘Love , War and the end of an Empire: a conversation with Deborah Baker” held at 12:30pm. Miss Baker recited a couple of paragraphs, from her book “The Convert” and “Love, War and the end of an Empire.” She also explained about how she came across the letters that led her to write this non-fiction “The convert” which was finalist for 2011 National Book Award. With all the many intrinsic KLF traditions, this year’s event was splendor. The arrangements of sessions, the colourful decor with cultural displays, foodfest , musical concerts, bookfair etc; such a magnificent and festive celebration of literary arts in the seaside scenic place of “Beach Luxury Hotel” is indeed a need of contemporary Pakistan
