Meeting Minutes September 21, 2016 Hartford Public Library Board Attendance: A. Ambrose, J. Cabral, F. Gordón-Quiroga, M. Gottesdiener, M. Moriarty, D. Peabody, M. Robbins, H. Roggi, C. Sicbaldi, D. Silva, R. Zaleski Community Attendance: HPD, HFD, E. Casasnovas, A. Hartman, J. Simms Colón, K. Modean, S. Slappendel-Modean, A. Jackman, C. Petersen Meeting came to order at 6:01 PM with introductions around the room. Police Report: A. DeMain presented • Ran numbers for 1 month prior (“August 17 – present”) • Includes North District, Asylum Hill, West End and Downtown • Overall incidents down 11% • Car break-ins are exception: up in prior month (3 alone on Capitol Avenue) • There are 14 new officers currently in field training • Additional stats can be found online at www.Hartford.gov • To report non-emergency situations, call (860) 757-4000 Fire Report: L Thompson presented city-wide dispatch and HFD activity statistics for the past month. Overall calls are down YTD. The #1 cause of home fires in the city is unattended cooking. Neighborhood Updates: • SoDo NRZ President Robin Zaleski discussed status of Ramón Quiroz park (“Hartford Decides” grant: $1.25M); Robin also addressed HD’s desire for 6-month ad-hoc committee to get the word out, get people to sign up for plots, and coordinate acquisition of land and development of garden. • Buckingham Square Park remains padlocked, the result (apparently) of grounds keeping employee’s frustration with dog waste. • MDC Project: new sewer pipe installation from Whitman Court across Buckingham properties slated to be finished mid-October • Ali Jackson of Eversource announced a community light bulb swap Sunday, October 2nd


Robin Zaleski suggested formation of “Outreach Committee” (ad hoc) to disperse SoDo information, meeting announcements, etc. to perimeter areas of SoDo and augment broader representation from NRZ at large

Outside Committees: • Hartford 2000, suggested need for second representative to represent SoDo (perhaps with additional “backup” representative) – meetings are 3rd Thursdays, monthly. M Robbins volunterred • Moriah Moriarty: next “Hartford Decides” meeting October 6th to discuss new projects for 2017 presentation • Capitol Avenue Redevelopment: Board committee of Bushnell Theater looking for member from SoDo – meetings held every other month. J. Cabral volunteered. • DPW: setting up ad hoc committee to address bulk waste, looking for representation from each NRZ, Cie Petersen volunteered New Business: • Dana Silva announced Town Hall Meeting September 28th • Jonathan Cabral mentioned CRDA meeting re: redevelopment of South Green • Cie Petersen mentioned“Live Work Love Hartford” – public group meets monthly on Hartford topics, attendance encouraged Meeting adjourned 7:17PM Submitted by F.
