A Historic Landmark

In 1949, Gunther’s moved to its iconic location at 2801 Franklin Blvd, a building that remains a piece of Sacramento’s architectural history. Designed in the Googie style an influential post-modern architecture popular in the 1940s this vibrant building became an instant landmark The famous neon-lit Jugglin’ Joe, a playful figure tossing ice cream cones, remains one of the most recognizable features of the location

In 2018, the Gunther’s building was officially recognized as a historic landmark by the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources, ensuring that the Gunther’s experience remains a part of Sacramento’s landscape for years to come.

Rick and Marlena Klopp, who purchased the business in 1974, have maintained the high standards set by the Gunther family while ensuring the shop plays an active role in the local community.
