Non-Profit Spotlight

Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley has been dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. Habitat’s work is grounded in respect, collaboration, and a commitment to strengthening the entire community. Guided by a mission to build strength, stability, and selfreliance through shelter, Habitat for Humanity of the RGV partners with hardworking, low-income families from the four-county region who may not qualify for traditional mortgages, providing them with a meaningful “hand up” rather than a “hand out.”

Habitat for Humanity of the RGV has proudly constructed over 100 homes throughout the Rio Grande Valley, helping families achieve responsible homeownership. Families become true partners in the process, contributing significant sweat equity hours by investing work in their own homes, fostering a deep sense of pride and community. Volunteers from all walks of life contribute their time and skills, making the organization’s work possible and fostering a spirit of unity.

In addition to building homes, Habitat for Humanity of the RGV operates the ReStore. This retail outlet sells new and gently used building materials, furniture, appliances, and home goods to the public at discounted prices. The ReStore also promotes sustainability by diverting reusable materials from landfills, reducing waste, and encouraging eco-friendly practices. Proceeds from the ReStore directly fund Habitat’s mission, supporting the building, rehabilitation, and repair of safe, affordable homes in the community.

Habitat for Humanity of the RGV is committed to promoting community engagement and fostering long-term partnerships that benefit families across the Rio Grande Valley. The organization regularly hosts volunteer build days, fundraisers, and community events that bring people together to make a difference.

With the support of local volunteers, donors, and sponsors, Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley continues to transform lives one home, one family, and one neighborhood at a time. For more information about how to support the mission or apply for housing, visit www.habitatrgv.org.
