City of Edinburg Hosts Memorial Day Tribute
Proudly recognized by the Texas Legislature as a Hometown of Heroes, the City of Edinburg gathered the community in solemn remembrance during its Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony, held Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium.
The event honored the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the United States. The program featured stirring musical tributes, moments of reflection, and a symbolic presentation of the Battlefield Cross by the Edinburg High School JROTC Honor Guard. Each element of the ceremony served as a moving tribute to the bravery and enduring legacy of the nation’s fallen heroes.
In a poignant moment, members of American Legion Post 408 read the names of Edinburg’s fallen—from World War I through the most recent conflicts—ensuring their sacrifices would never be forgotten. The city extended a special welcome to the families of Edinburg’s 90 fallen service members, whose presence underscored the true cost of freedom.
The ceremony also included a moment of silence honoring Mrs. Dolia Gonzalez, mother of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
