Fireworks, picnics, enjoying a beautiful night of music with friends and family—for many of us, summer means an evening at the Hollywood Bowl. For more than 100 years, the Bowl has been a testament to music’s power to nurture connection, spanning its first sunrise service and community sing-alongs to our recent WE LA concert recognizing first responders and those affected by the LA wildfires.
Our Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel says, “Music can build community. It can forge bridges between cultures as we share the things that connect us.” Nowhere does this sentiment ring truer than on a perfect summer night at the Hollywood Bowl. As a Los Angeles County Park operated by the LA Phil, the Bowl attracts the world’s most famous performers while offering tickets for as little as $1—so that music and this magical summer experience can be available to everyone.
We are delighted to build on these traditions throughout the 2025 season, one that brings together an array of artists spanning all genres and diverse backgrounds. From Babyface to Beethoven, Jurassic Park to Juanes, and our first musical theater production since 2022, Jesus Christ Superstar with Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert, there are so many spectacular evenings in store. We can’t wait to share them with you.
Warmly,

I’m excited to welcome you to the Hollywood Bowl, one of the most historic and beloved venues in Los Angeles County. Whether this iconic facility is hosting a performance by the exceptional Los Angeles Philharmonic or a concert by a visiting world-class musician, the Hollywood Bowl is known for its commitment to excellence both on the stage and behind the scenes.
It’s particularly special to me that the Hollywood Bowl finds its home in Los Angeles County’s Fifth District among the communities I have the privilege to represent. With such a rich and storied history, and as host to some of the biggest names in music today, the Bowl is one of the landmarks that make our district unique.
Whether you’re visiting from down the street, across the county, or around the world, I hope you enjoy your time at this remarkable venue. I still hold
near and dear the many fond and fun memories I’ve made at the Hollywood Bowl throughout my life. I know your experience here will be just as memorable, whether it’s your fi rst show or you’re a regular visitor.
Throughout the season, I encourage you to take advantage of all the incredible opportunities available to you. To hop on the convenient and affordable Park & Ride buses and Bowl Shuttles accessible from all over the county, look at the delicious food options, get a sneak peek at your seats, and fi nd everything else you need to know, head to hollywoodbowl.com/visit so you can make the most of your evening.
You can stay in touch with me at kathrynbarger.lacounty.gov or on social media for the latest community updates and resources. I look forward to connecting with you and hope to see you at a Hollywood Bowl concert soon!
Best wishes,
Supervisor Kathryn Barger Chair, Board of Supervisors Fifth District, Los Angeles County

I am thrilled you are spending an evening visiting the Hollywood Bowl—one of the best outdoor venues in the US. The Hollywood Bowl is a legendary performance space, public park, and picnic ground, owned by the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) and operated by the world-class LA Phil. The Bowl’s summer lineup of diverse music genres is a bucket list for Los Angeles County residents and visitors.
The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, LA County Parks, and the LA Phil are committed to ensuring that all Angelenos can enjoy this remarkable venue through initiatives that expand access. We will:
Continue the Hollywood Bowl Access Program, a partnership of LA County Parks and the LA Phil, to bring teens and seniors to enjoy summer concerts.
Expand $1 ticket access for the public and expand the concerts offered.
Serve as a good steward of sustainability and our environment by continuing to grow public ridership for the Hollywood Bowl’s shuttle and the Park & Ride programs. We have exceeded our 30% transportation goal and are not stopping there.
We invite you to experience the Hollywood Bowl all year long. Visitors can take a leisurely picnic at Highland Camrose Park at the base of the Bowl, visit the on-site museum, take view-worthy strolls on the grounds, and exercise on the hundreds of hillside steps. I warmly welcome and invite you to enjoy your Hollywood Bowl!

Gustavo Dudamel is committed to creating a better world through music. Guided by an unwavering belief in the power of art to inspire and transform lives, he has worked tirelessly to expand education and access for underserved communities around the world and to broaden the impact of classical music to new and ever-larger audiences. His rise, from humble beginnings as a child in Venezuela to an unparalleled career of artistic and social achievements, offers living proof that culture can bring meaning to the life of an individual and greater harmony to the world at large. He currently serves as the Music & Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, and in 2026, he becomes the Music and Artistic Director of the New York Philharmonic, continuing a legacy that includes Gustav Mahler, Arturo Toscanini, and Leonard Bernstein. Throughout 2025, Dudamel will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of El Sistema, honoring the global impact of José Antonio Abreu’s visionary education program across five generations, and acknowledging the vital importance of arts education. Dudamel’s advocacy for the power of music to unite, heal, and inspire is global in scope. In appearances from the United Nations to the White House to the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, Dudamel has served as a passionate advocate for music education and social integration through art, sharing his own transformative experience in Venezuela’s El Sistema program as an example of how music can give a sense of purpose and meaning to young people and help them rise above challenging circumstances. In 2007, Dudamel, the LA Phil, and its community
partners founded YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles), which now provides more than 1,700 young people with free instruments, intensive music instruction, academic support, and leadership training. In 2012, Dudamel launched the Dudamel Foundation, which he co-chairs with his wife, actress and director María Valverde, with the goal of expanding access to music and the arts for young people by providing tools and opportunities to shape their creative futures.
As a conductor, Dudamel is one of the few classical musicians to become a bona fi de pop-culture phenomenon and has worked tirelessly to ensure that music reaches an ever-greater audience. He was the fi rst classical artist to participate in the Super Bowl halftime show and the youngest conductor ever to lead the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. He has performed at global mainstream events from the Academy Awards to the Olympics, and has worked with musical icons like Billie Eilish, Christina Aguilera, LL Cool J, Ca7riel y Paco Amoroso, Laufey, Coldplay, and Nas. Dudamel conducted the score to Steven Spielberg’s new adaptation of West Side Story, and at John Williams’ personal request, he guest conducted the opening and closing credits of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His fi lm and television appearances include Sesame Street, The Simpsons, Mozart in the Jungle, Trolls World Tour, and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and in 2019 Dudamel was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
For more information about Gustavo Dudamel, visit his offi cial website at gustavodudamel.com and the Dudamel Foundation at dudamelfoundation.org.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic, under the vibrant leadership of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music through a commitment to foundational works and adventurous explorations. Both at home and abroad, the LA Phil—recognized as one of the world’s outstanding orchestras—is leading the way in groundbreaking and diverse programming, onstage and in the community, that reflects the orchestra’s artistry and demonstrates its vision. The 2024/25 season is the orchestra’s 106th.
Nearly 300 concerts are either performed or presented by the LA Phil at its three iconic venues: the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford. During its winter season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, with approximately 165 performances, the LA Phil creates festivals, artist residencies, and other thematic programs designed to enhance the audience’s experience of orchestral music. Since 1922, its summer home has been the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, host to the finest artists from all genres of music. The Ford, situated in a 32-acre park and under the stewardship of the LA Phil since December 2019, presents an eclectic summer season of music, dance, film, and family events that are reflective of the communities that comprise Los Angeles.
The orchestra’s involvement with Los Angeles extends far beyond its venues. Among its influential and multifaceted learning initiatives is YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles). Through YOLA, inspired by Gustavo Dudamel’s own training as a young musician, the LA Phil and its community partners provide free instruments,
intensive music training, and academic support to over 1,700 young musicians, empowering them to become vital citizens, leaders, and agents of change. In the fall of 2021, YOLA opened its own permanent, purposebuilt facility: the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood, designed by Frank Gehry.
The orchestra also undertakes tours, both domestically and internationally, including regular visits to New York, London (where the orchestra is the Barbican Centre’s International Orchestral Partner), Paris, and Tokyo. As part of its global Centennial activities, the orchestra visited Seoul, Tokyo, Mexico City, London, Boston, and New York.
The LA Phil’s first tour was in 1921, and the orchestra has made annual tours since the 1969/70 season.
The LA Phil has released an array of critically acclaimed recordings, including world premieres of the music of John Adams and Louis Andriessen, along with Grammywinning recordings featuring the music of Brahms, Ives, Andrew Norman, Thomas Adès, and Gabriela Ortiz—whose Revolución diamantina received three Grammys in 2025.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic was founded in 1919 by William Andrews Clark, Jr., a wealthy amateur musician. Walter Henry Rothwell became its first Music Director, serving until 1927; since then, 10 renowned conductors have served in that capacity: Georg Schnéevoigt (1927-1929), Artur Rodziński (1929-1933), Otto Klemperer (1933-1939), Alfred Wallenstein (1943-1956), Eduard van Beinum (1956-1959), Zubin Mehta (1962-1978), Carlo Maria Giulini (1978-1984), André Previn (1985-1989), Esa-Pekka Salonen (1992-2009), and Gustavo Dudamel (2009-present).

“I feel my mom’s presence around me in the bamboo forest, and I feel at peace. I can just be myself here. She first brought me to the Door when I was 18 on Mother’s Day. So I return to connect with her and to myself. I know she would have wanted that for me.”

The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is composed of approximately 65 regular players, an international mix of classically trained musicians who are among the best studio musicians in Los Angeles. Many spend their days on Hollywood’s scoring stages. It might be surprising to learn that there is no overlap between the musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and those of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra—another indicator that LA has a tremendous pool of musical talent.
Musicians have been performing at the Hollywood Bowl since its opening in 1922. “Bowl Orchestra” was used as early as 1925, and “Hollywood Bowl Orchestra” appeared on live recordings made in 1928. Leopold Stokowski was Music Director of the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra from 1945 to 1946. During that time, the orchestra recorded several classical works. In the 1950s and 1960s, Capitol Records issued an extensive series of recordings of the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra with a number of different conductors, including Carmen Dragon, Felix Slatkin, Alfred Newman, and Miklós
Rózsa, with album titles such as Rhapsody Under the Stars, Chopin by Starlight, Fiesta!, and Marche!
From the 1950s on, there was no offi cial Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, until it reappeared in 1991, under the auspices of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, as a completely new ensemble under the direction of Principal Conductor John Mauceri. After retiring from the orchestra in 2006, Mauceri was awarded the lifelong title of Founding Director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

In 2008, Thomas Wilkins began an appointment as Principal Guest Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In June 2014, he became the orchestra’s Principal Conductor, in which position he continues to lead the ensemble each summer in a wide range of concerts at the fabled outdoor venue.
From Mozart to Motown, the repertoire of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is as diverse as Hollywood itself. In a single season, the orchestra may perform everything from Broadway favorites to film music, pop music to jazz, and classical music to world premieres by living composers. In essence, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra does it all.

Eighteen years ago, the LA Phil and its community partners launched YOLA with 80 students at the EXPO Center in South LA. Today, in partnership with Heart of Los Angeles and Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, our program hubs serve students and families in the Rampart District, Westlake/MacArthur Park, East LA, and Inglewood. YOLA engages musicians from more than 200 schools in culturally vibrant and ethnically diverse communities across LA County. Music study is complemented by leadership development opportunities, workshops, and performances. YOLA’s young musicians have performed on great stages, from the LA Phil’s iconic venues—the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Concert Hall—to national and international television broadcasts, and alongside the greatest artists. On October 15, 2021, the Los Angeles Philharmonic opened the Judith and Thomas
L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood, designed by Gehry Partners, LLC, the first permanent, purposebuilt facility for YOLA. For more information, please visit laphil.com/yola

Here at the LA Phil, we’re grateful for our partners who shape the creative spirit of the Los Angeles community. With summer in full swing, we want to take a moment to reminisce on a few of this year’s most electrifying donor events—and highlight the exceptional impact of our LA Phil patrons whose generosity enables the unforgettable performances we present at the Bowl and beyond.
1–3. To celebrate the start of the Hollywood Bowl season, the LA Phil welcomed thousands of guests for Opening Night at the Bowl, featuring Broadway and Hollywood star Hugh Jackman.
2. (L–R) Garrett Collins and Matt McIntyre and Board of Directors member Vikki Sung and Frank Hu enjoyed the evening’s festivities.
3. Opening Night Co-Chairs (L–R) Jay and Barbara Rasulo, Gregory A. Adams, Lisa Field, and Jonathan and Monique Kagan greeted guests for an unforgettable evening. Other Co-Chairs were Robyn Field and Anthony O’Carroll.
4. Katie Gundersen—a longtime supporter and member of the Clark Society, the LA Phil’s legacy society—received an impromptu tutorial from LA Phil Second Violin Johnny Lee at a luncheon in February.
5. Grammy-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich treated LA Phil donors to a solo performance at a Philharmonic Council Artist’s Dinner.
6. Longtime LA Phil supporters and champions Terri and Jerry Kohl attended the Hollywood Bowl Season Launch Party held in May. 7. (L-R ) Kim Noltemy, President & CEO of the LA Phil and David C. Bohnett Presidential Chair, joined LA Phil Board of Directors members Gabi Starr and Sandy Pressman at Hotel Bel-Air in March. 8–10. In late spring, Thomas “Tom” Hooten,
Principal Trumpet and the M. David and Diane Paul Chair, & Friends performed at Sony Pictures Studios’ Streisand Scoring Stage thanks to generous underwriting support from Terri and Jerry Kohl, with additional backing from Jonathan and Monique Kagan and Winnie Kho and Chris Testa. 8. World-renowned violinist Anne Akiko Meyers also played a moving solo for the crowd.

It’s no secret that car culture is practically cemented into the way of life for many people in Los Angeles. But when the Hollywood Bowl was constructed in 1922, it wasn’t exactly built with cars in mind. Driving, sitting in traffic, and waiting in stacked parking at the end of the concert isn’t the most ideal accompaniment to a night out.
Fortunately, there are other ways to get here that are eco-friendly and more affordable. One of our longest-running—and increasingly popular— options is the Bowl Shuttle and Park & Ride.
Sparked by the opening of the Hollywood Freeway (now known as the 101) in 1952, the LA Phil partnered with Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1953 to begin bringing concertgoers to the Bowl from various locations across the region. Seven decades later, the system has grown to become the largest shuttlebus system west of the Mississippi River.
security personnel, and county partners ensure that riding to the Bowl from as far as the West San Fernando Valley, the South Bay, Hacienda Heights, and other locations goes safely and smoothly.
One key person with a hand in just about every aspect of our operations is Steve Arredondo. An LA Phil employee for nearly 20 years, Arredondo got his start as an usher before working his way up to his current role as Transit/Traffic Manager at the Bowl. He oversees the shuttles, ensures Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, coordinates street closures, finds new routes, and so much more.
If there’s one thing Arredondo has learned, it’s that actually driving out into the community and seeing it firsthand is the best way to determine how the system will all come together. “It might look good on a map, but you know Google Maps isn’t getting updated 24 hours a day,” he says.
Up to 165 wheelchair-accessible buses circulate four Bowl Shuttle and 15 Park & Ride locations. Nearly 200 bus drivers, dispatchers, parking lot staff,
When Arredondo goes out to meet with property owners and scope out parking locations, there are many things to note: car capacity, on-site lighting, safety, traffic, accessibility, restrooms, proximity to local businesses, and physical geography (e.g., smooth granite pavement away from steep hills).
“I will ask one of the bus vendors if they’ll go with me or meet me there and make sure that we can maneuver the bus out of there,” Arredondo says. “Can it queue on the street? Which route will it take? Can people easily get in and out?” If we can’t answer those questions, the property is likely no good.
“Each location has its own little personality,” Arredondo says. Santa Monica isn’t Sylmar and Culver City isn’t Pasadena. Some lots are near colleges— usually more vacant while students are away for the summer—and others are by parks. At Metro Station lots, the 9–5 commuters are either heading home or hopping on the first bus to the Bowl.
Convenience is key, but so is affordability. Shuttle tickets are just $6—or free, if you take the Metro and show the attendant your valid TAP card or GoMetro Round-Trip Pass—and Park & Ride tickets start at $8.
In 2022, 26% of the season’s attendees took the Bowl Shuttle or Park & Ride.
The next summer, ridership grew to 29%. Last year, it increased again, to 36%.
This past June, 52% of concertgoers got on the bus for Opening Night at the Bowl with Hugh Jackman.
With more and more people choosing to ride the shuttle, we’re helping to keep thousands of cars off the streets and improve air quality throughout the neighborhood.
In addition, many of our buses run on CNG (compressed natural gas), an alternative to standard gasoline that reduces smog-related tailpipe emissions and greenhouse gases by about 20%. Eventually, Arredondo wants to go even greener.
“Our next goal is to go fully electric for the Ovation shuttle location,” he says. “We have to put in the infrastructure and chargers, but they’re working on it. It’ll definitely be done this summer.”
For a venue that sits on 88 sprawling acres, conserving water is essential not only for the people who work and visit us at the Bowl but also for the native plants and animals that call our environment home.
Over the years, we’ve made long-term upgrades to ensure that our water use is as low as possible. Outdoors, the Hollywood Bowl has a high-tech, satellite-based irrigation system that responds to rainfall—meaning plants get watered only when they truly need it. The vast majority of trees and plants you’ll find near the Bowl are native to the state or specifically to the Hollywood Hills. Since they’re from here, they have evolved to grow and survive in California’s chaparral ecosystem without excessive water and maintenance.
Whenever there’s runoff water, we make an effort to keep it clean. At each water intake, we’ve installed stainless steel grates and special filters to help catch pollutants before they can affect local waterways and wildlife.
Around the venue, you’ll also find eight water-filling stations. Consider bringing a reusable bottle to refill if you get thirsty.
When nature calls…did you know you’re actually still saving water? Since we made the switch from standard restrooms to ecoconscious ones (waterless urinals and lowflush toilets) in 2007, you’ve been helping us save 3.5 million gallons of water every single year. —P.S.
Performing with everyone from Sinatra to Cynthia Erivo, the LA Phil has been transcending musical genres for more than 80 years, culminating in this spring’s appearances at Coachella.

It’s August 14, 1943. A Saturday night at the Hollywood Bowl. While the crowd has just been wowed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s performance of music from Fantasia, they are eager for what’s next. There are 10,000 people in attendance—a sellout crowd, though the anticipation, so thick it seems to be dripping from the trees that surround the amphitheater, makes it feel like many more. Finally, the moment arrives. A young heartthrob named Frank Sinatra takes the stage to sing with the orchestra. The next day, the Los Angeles Times will report that there were “hysterical screams, pleading, sighs, whistles, endearments, gasps, agonized cries.” He sings “Dancing in the Dark,” “The Song Is You,” and “You’ll Never Know,” while “10,000 slick chicks” and “breathless babies in bobby socks” (according to the Times) collectively lose their minds. It is the first time a pop star has played their music with an orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. It will not be the last. For a nonclassical musician, performing with an orchestra doesn’t simply add a veneer of sophistication to otherwise straightforward songs. These concerts present unique challenges for artists more accustomed to the spontaneity and kinetic energy of live pop, rock, or hip-hop. But the rewards can be staggering. Like an art restorer cleaning a painting, orchestras highlight depths and colors in the music that might otherwise be difficult to experience. The lovelorn blues of a tear-jerking ballad might now have the heavy sadness of a stormy day. The relentless drive of a fist-pumping anthem now gallops to a dramatic crescendo.
While Sinatra was the first to sing his hits at the Bowl accompanied by an orchestra, he technically wasn’t the first pop singer to appear with an orchestra on the Bowl’s stage; in 1937, as part of a memorial concert for George Gershwin, Fred Astaire joined the LA Phil to sing “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” from Shall We Dance But Sinatra’s appearance was unusual enough to cause controversy. The Bowl at that time was still seen as the sophisticated outdoor home of Western art music— classical music, in other words, that some felt might be sullied by the appearance of other types of artists. Sinatra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic were aware of this and tried to mitigate it: Despite performing his own music, Sinatra was billed in the night’s program as a “baritone soloist.”
It would take a little over a decade for the experiment to be repeated. This time, in 1954, Nat King Cole became the first Black pop star to sing at the Bowl, performing with the Hollywood Bowl Pops—a forerunner of today’s Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Cole’s response to the evening was noticeably
different from Sinatra’s; he was conscious of the honor but didn’t feel the need to downplay his appearance: “Only a few years ago I was a struggling entertainer around Hollywood. Now, due to good fortune, I am getting the best presentation possible. It is like a wonderful dream come true.”
Cole’s concert opened the door to a number of jazz singers who would perform with an orchestra at the Bowl in coming years. Peggy Lee made her first appearance, while Ella Fitzgerald debuted in 1960, playing her first of many Bowl concerts. Sarah Vaughan later repeated Astaire’s trick, singing Gershwin with Michael Tilson Thomas and the LA Phil, as well as her own jazz combo, in 1974. Billie Holiday performed in 1953; 26 years later, Nina Simone paid her tribute in one of Simone’s several Hollywood Bowl concerts. It’s a tradition that continues today, with artists like Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (2017) and Laufey (2024) carrying the tradition of jazz vocalists into the 21st century.
But not every artist who plays with an orchestra is a crooner. A year after the release of their 1969 album Concerto for Group and Orchestra with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, heavy-metal progenitors Deep Purple became the first rock band to play with an orchestra here, teaming up with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Procol Harum’s baroque-influenced progrock made them a natural fit in 1973 (as did the bit of Bach they lifted for their hit “A Whiter Shade of Pale”). During World Cup Week in 1994, Garth Brooks performed a special solo acoustic show at the height of his popularity, backed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
In recent years, everyone from Beck to Death Cab for Cutie to Rodrigo y Gabriela has linked up with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl. Both Billie Eilish and Laufey have released concert films shot on the Bowl’s stage with the LA Phil. And as for spontaneity? No less an improviser than Phish’s Trey Anastasio played solo with the orchestra in 2014 (they turned in a pretty sick “You Enjoy Myself,” according to phans who were there).
It’s no longer considered a novelty for even the wildest artist to appear on an orchestra’s stage: Flying Lotus’ glitchy, psychedelic electronic show in 2021 made sure of that, and 2025’s King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard show should kill any lingering doubts. But in a thrilling reversal, classical music now finds itself in places that were once pop’s sole domain. Sometimes it means set lists comprising purely orchestral renditions of canonical pop music, as when producer George Martin conducted a Beatles tribute at the Bowl in 1999. But it also means that this past spring, the LA Phil led by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel did something no major orchestra had done before, playing a set at Coachella, the world’s most prestigious pop music festival. Joined by Laufey, LL Cool J, Cynthia Erivo, Dave Grohl, and others, they presented orchestrated versions of those artists’ songs, as one might expect. But they also performed music by Stravinsky, Wagner, Bach, and more, to the delight of a raucous crowd that chanted the orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel’s names. In the desert dusk, it seemed as though the line between classical and pop music—a line the LA Phil, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and countless artists had crossed over time and time again—was fully erased.

Tim Rice (Lyrics) has worked in music, theater, and films since 1965 when he met Andrew Lloyd Webber, a fellow struggling songwriter. Rather than pursue Tim’s ambitions to write rock or pop songs, they turned their attention to Andrew’s obsession— musical theater. Their first collaboration, The Likes Of Us, did not set the musicals world alight, but their next three works together did—Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita. Tim has since worked with other distinguished composers such as Elton John (The Lion King, Aida), Alan Menken ( Aladdin, King David, Beauty and the Beast), Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Chess), and Stuart Brayson ( From Here to Eternity ). He has also written with Freddie Mercury, Burt Bacharach, Graham Gouldman, Gary Barlow, and Rick Wakeman, among others. Many of his musicals continue to play
around the world in a huge variety of productions, big and small.
In 2024 and 2025, Tim toured the UK and Ireland (56 dates in all) to present My Life In Musicals, an evening of his songs mercifully performed by top singers and musicians rather than by him, to which he added reminiscence and comment, recalling their creation, success (or rejection), and the joy (usually) of working with great composers.
Sir Tim’s interests beyond music, film, and theater include cricket, and he founded his own team in 1973. Heartaches CC has now played over 750 matches and been on playing tours to the USA, Russia, France, Estonia, Hungary, Germany, and South Africa. He was President of the world’s most famous cricket club, MCC, in 2002.
He has recently recorded a series of talks for BBC Maestro on “Writing and Performing in Musical Theater.” He writes and presents a podcast (titled Get Onto My Cloud ) about his 60-year career—playing hits and flops, outtakes, and number ones.
He crops up here and there in all branches of the media drawing on his extensive knowledge of the history of popular music. He has won several awards, mainly for the wrong thing or for simply turning up, but since you ask: one Emmy, five Grammys, three Tonys, and three Oscars, making him an EGOT. His shows have spent more weeks on Broadway than those of any other British lyricist. He was knighted by Her Late Majesty the Queen in 1994. Despite hints, he is not retiring just yet.
Andrew Lloyd Webber (Music) has composed the scores of some of the world’s most famous musicals. His shows have run continually in the West End for 50 years and on Broadway for 43 years.
When the original Sunset Boulevard joined School of Rock, CATS, and The Phantom of the Opera in 1994, Lloyd Webber equaled Rodgers & Hammerstein’s record of four shows running simultaneously on Broadway. He is also one of the select group of artists with EGOT status, having received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.
Lloyd Webber owns six London theaters including the iconic London Palladium and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Reopened in July 2021, the latter was completely restored and renovated at a cost of over £60 million. It was one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by a private theater owner in recent times. His mantra is that every penny of profit made
from his theaters is ploughed back into the buildings.
Lloyd Webber is passionate about the importance of musical education and diversity in the arts. The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation provides 30 performing arts scholarships every year for talented students with financial need and supports a range of projects such as the Music in Secondary School Trust and commissioning research into diversity in theater.
Lloyd Webber has composed music for globally significant moments. Most recently, he composed “Make a Joyful Noise,” the anthem for the coronation of King Charles III.
Lloyd Webber was knighted in 1992, created an honorary life peer in 1997, and made a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter by King Charles III in 2024. He is the only person in the arts ever granted this personal honor by a monarch.
Sergio Trujillo (Director and Choreographer) is an internationally acclaimed theater director and choreographer, and the firstever Latino recipient of the Tony Award for Best Choreography, which he received in 2019 for Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. His work has electrified Broadway, the West End, and stages around the world, bringing powerful storytelling and dynamic movement to life with signature heart and style.
He is the recipient of an Olivier Award for Memphis and has been honored with multiple nominations, including a Tony nomination for On Your Feet!, Drama Desk nominations (Jersey Boys Memphis Leap of Faith Hands on a Hardbody ), a Lucille Lortel nomination (Saved ), an Ovation Award ( Empire), and three NAACP Awards.
Sergio made his Broadway debut with All Shook Up, followed by the international hit Jersey Boys. At one
point, four of his productions— Next to Normal (Pulitzer Prize), The Addams Family, Memphis, and Jersey Boys—ran simultaneously on Broadway, a rare achievement that underscored his artistic range and influence.
Additional Broadway choreography credits include Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, A Bronx Tale, Guys and Dolls, and Days of Wine and Roses. As a director, recent work includes the Tony-nominated Real Women Have Curves (Broadway), The Harder They Come (The Public Theater), Arrabal (American Repertory Theater, Elliot Norton Award), and Paramour (Cirque du Soleil). He also directed ¡Viva Broadway! Hear Our Voices, Flashdance, and the Broadway concert Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine Sergio is a two-time Emmy nominee ( Annie Live!, Christmas in Rockefeller Center). He choreographed the 2021 and 2024 Tony Awards, The Kennedy Center Honors, and the upcoming movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman starring Jennifer Lopez.
In 2017, he cofounded Truworthy Productions with Jack Noseworthy to develop Latine musicals that celebrate Hispanic culture.
Upcoming works include La Casa de las Flores (with Andrew Lippa and Bob Martin) and Like Water for Chocolate (with Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and La Santa Cecilia).
Sergio is thrilled to be making his debut at the Hollywood Bowl with this bold new staging of the beloved classic Jesus Christ Superstar
Stephen Oremus (Musical Director and Conductor) is the recipient of two Tony Awards (Best Orchestration) and two Grammy Awards (Best Musical Theater Album) for his work on The Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots. For Kinky Boots, Stephen served as music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger for Broadway, National Tour, and worldwide productions. Cynthia Erivo (Jesus) is a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning and three-time Academy Awardnominated actor, singer, and producer. Erivo burst onto West End and Broadway stages in The Color Purple, for which she won the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical, and has since taken the world by storm. In 2024, she starred as Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande’s Glinda in Universal’s recordbreaking film adaptation of the hit musical Wicked from director Jon M. Chu. The film opened number one at the box office and has since become the highest grossing movie based on a Broadway musical ever at the domestic box office.
Erivo garnered widespread critical acclaim for her performance, receiving Golden Globe, SAG, Critics’ Choice, NAACP, BAFTA, and Academy Award nominations. She will return as Elphaba this fall in Wicked: For Good, which will be released on November 21, 2025. Erivo is next set to start production on the film adaptation
of Prima Facie, the Broadway sensation that originated on the West End. Under her Edith’s Daughter production banner, she will also executive produce the film. It was also recently announced that Erivo will return to the West End, starring as Bram Stoker’s demonic vampire and 22 other roles in Kip William’s Dracula, a one-woman theatrical extravaganza set for 2026. She recently finished production on Children of Blood and Bone with an all-star cast including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Damson Idris, and Amandla Stenberg, as well as the action thriller Karoshi with Teo Yoo and Isabel May.
In addition to her illustrious acting career, Erivo is a Grammynominated songwriter and performer, headlining numerous sold-out shows, symphonies, and music spaces including The Kennedy Center Honors, the 2020 Academy Awards, the 2017 post-Oscars Governors Ball, and the 2017 Grammy Awards. Erivo released her debut album, Ch. 1 Vs. 1, with Verve/Universal Music Group in September 2021. This June 2025, Erivo released her second album I Forgive You via Verve Records/Republic Records.
Adam Lambert (Judas) is a Grammynominated singer-songwriter, actor, producer, and LGBTQ+ trailblazer. The first openly gay male artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Lambert has released five studio albums and sold millions of albums worldwide. After blowing everyone away on American Idol ’s eighth season, Lambert went on to become Grammy-nominated for his platinum-certified single “Whataya Want From Me” and has amassed an impressive catalog featuring five Top 10s on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart. Recently, Lambert released his most liberated body of work to date with the hedonistic dance EP AFTERS
In addition to a successful solo career, Lambert is no stranger to impressing crowds with his carefully curated transformations of other artists’ songs—from selling out stadiums worldwide as the frontman of Queen, to The Kennedy Center Honors, where he reduced Cher to tears with his delicate ballad rendition of “Believe.”
Alongside his impressive musical achievements, Lambert has showcased his acting chops onstage, most recently in his critically acclaimed role of Emcee in the Tony Awardwinning production of Cabaret marking his official Broadway debut, as well as the First National Tour and Los Angeles Company of Wicked (Ensemble, Fiyero U/S), and now as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. His acting experience also includes the hit TV series Glee, an appearance in the five-time Academy Awardwinning film Bohemian Rhapsody, and the Sofia Coppola-produced feature film Fairyland, which world premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra string section utilizes revolving seating on a systematic basis. Players listed alphabetically change seats periodically.

As the LA Phil celebrates the music of John Williams in its Maestro of the Movies concerts (August 22–24), we look at the eight-decade relationship between cinema’s greatest composer, this orchestra, and the Hollywood Bowl.
The partnership between the Los Angeles Philharmonic and composer, conductor, and pianist John Williams is quintessentially a Hollywood story.
Williams was born and raised in New York; his father, a professional jazz percussionist, encouraged him to study music. By the time the family moved to Los Angeles in 1948, Williams was a skilled pianist. In the late 1950s, Williams performed for the very first time on the Hollywood Bowl stage with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
A multifaceted musician, Williams eventually collided with LA’s largest industry: Movies! In November 1977, two years after Jaws was released, the Hollywood Bowl and Williams joined forces once again. At the time, the executive director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic was Ernest Fleischmann—a leader who quickly figured out that any successful Los Angeles orchestra would need to reflect the zany charm of its cinephilic city. The LA Phil’s 1977 tour to Japan had suddenly been canceled, and Fleischmann needed to fill two weeks of programming.
Former Music Director Zubin Mehta recalled Fleischmann’s savvy: “So we thought, ‘Let’s give a children’s concert at the Bowl.’ And Ernest said, ‘Look, every child loves Star Wars.’”
The film, which had premiered a few months earlier, was a sensation; its score was a sensation, too. Williams instantly agreed to let the LA Phil perform his wildly popular music and even compiled a new suite for the occasion. The concert was a success and the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
A year later, thanks again to Fleischmann’s inventiveness, Williams added a new title to his already hefty résumé: conductor. In need of a substitute for the legendary leader of the Boston Pops Arthur Fiedler, Fleischmann urged Williams to take the Bowl podium. Recalling his hesitancy, Williams said, “I really didn’t think I could do it. But Ernest was a very imposing figure and very important impresario in the classical world. If he said you should do something, you’d be foolish not to do it.”
From then on, Williams became a regular part of the LA Phil. Audiences craved the emotion, nostalgia, and playfulness that his scores exude—and not just at the raucous Hollywood Bowl, but also in an intimate concert hall. In 2003, Williams composed and conducted his inventive piece Soundings for the inaugural Walt Disney Concert Hall Gala. Describing the Frank Gehry building, Williams said, “A more inspiring subject for music can’t be imagined.”
In 2015, Williams asked Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel to conduct the opening and closing music for The Force Awakens. “I cannot tell you how inspired I felt when I held his score in my hands for the first time, stunned by the beauty of his writing,” Dudamel said. “He’s a genius.”
In 2018, the LA Phil celebrated the 40th anniversary of Williams’ Bowl conducting debut with Maestro of the Movies, a concert devoted to Williams’ music that has since become a beloved tradition. At the Maestro of the Movies performances in 2022, Williams premiered “Helena’s Theme” from the then-unreleased and untitled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
In the years since Williams first played piano on the Hollywood Bowl stage, he has conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic in over 120 performances. The orchestra has performed music from over 60 of Williams’ scores and has debuted several of his works, including the world premiere of Centennial Overture—a piece commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Hollywood Bowl—as well as the West Coast premieres of Olympic Fanfare and the Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra.
Williams’ music has become a trademark of the LA Phil; on its 2024 European tour, it chose the theme music to Indiana Jones as its encore. Every year, listeners flock to the concert hall or the Hollywood Bowl to hear the two-note ostinato that signals a shark attack, the festive chimes of Home Alone, or the devastatingly beautiful violin of Schindler’s List. Williams has seen the LA Phil through six music directors and three concert halls. And more than any other composer, he has brought film music the same respect as other symphonic music. Williams has composed the soundtracks for countless classic films and, incredibly, he has composed our soundtrack too.

For the third straight year, designer and artist Justina Blakeney collaborated with the Hollywood Bowl Store on an exclusive collection. Titled With the Folks, this line represents her “love letter to LA.”
“The Hollywood Bowl has always felt like one of LA’s happiest places—music in the air, sunshine or stars overhead, and that electric sense of togetherness. For this season’s design, called ‘With the Folks,’ I wanted to capture that spirit of community, freedom, and fun. I started with the Bowl’s iconic shell shape, letting it bloom into flowers, petals, suns, and stars—symbols of resilience, beauty, and renewal. Flowers, to me, represent the way nature keeps finding a way to bloom, even after fire. This folksy, retro, and funky design is my love letter to LA—a celebration of music, nature, and the simple magic of gathering with the folks you love.”
—Justina Blakeney, Artist & Jungalow founder

The
In 1919, a virtual who’s who of Los Angeles cultural and civic life galvanized around a project to build the first urban open-air performing arts venue in the nation. Aiming to put Los Angeles on the map, these impresarios, musicians, real estate moguls, Theosophists, “professional men” of various backgrounds, and others brought their own ideas and agendas for the venue and how it could serve Los Angeles’ vast and growing communities.
Currently on view at the Hollywood Bowl Museum, Building the Bowl: From Dream to Destination focuses on six of the central founding figures of the Hollywood Bowl— Christine Wetherill Stevenson, Dr. T. Perceval Gerson, Charles E. Toberman, Artie Mason Carter, Frederick W. Blanchard, and Florence M. Irish—each of whom played a distinctive role in its history.
Take the stress out of your next concert trip. Since 1953, audiences have been taking buses to the Hollywood Bowl, helping grow the program into the largest and most comprehensive transportation system of any concert venue west of the Mississippi. The Hollywood Bowl has added a transportation hub to help streamline access for Park & Ride, Bowl Shuttle, Metro, and rideshares. These efforts help reduce the number of cars coming to the Bowl by more than 2,000 vehicles each evening, making your night run more smoothly. Plan your next trip at hollywoodbowl.com/gettinghere
When you show your same-day Park & Ride or Shuttle ticket at the Plaza Marketplace, you get 20% off your purchase.
Buses drop you off at the top of Lot B.
Bowl Shuttle rides are FREE with a valid TAP card used within the previous two hours, a GoMetro Round-Trip Pass, or a Burbank Metrolink ticket.
We acknowledge the Gabrielino Tongva, Gabrielino Kizh, and Fernandeño Tataviam Nations as the traditional stewards of the land now called the Hollywood Bowl.
We honor and respect the many indigenous peoples connected to this land and express our admiration for their resilient and important cultural leaders in our region—past, present, and future.
