L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F

S u m m er is HERE!!! June is one of my favorite months of the year for so many reasons. Summer in Oklahoma City has a constant menu of fun things to do all throughout the city and surrounding areas. This issue highlights all the awesome festivals that take place throughout the month. There is at least one going on almost every day and all of them are packed with local flair and fun. I’ve already blocked off my calendar for the Made in Oklahoma Wine, Beer & Food Festival on June 4, the deadCENTER film festival on June 8-12, the Oklahoma Craft Beer Festival on June 17-18, and SoonerCon on June 24. Those are my can’tmiss festivals this month and I’m sure I’ll be trying to fit in a few more, too. Also in this issue, we have kicked off the lead-up to the highly anticipated Street of Dreams with the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association. This will be the premier home festival of the year, in which seven of the top builders in OKC will showcase stunning highend homes with the latest industry trends in technology and design. There will be a huge festival this fall to showcase all these homes on the Street of Dreams. Make sure to check out the article about this event, which includes the first of a series of features on the participating builders.

Our feature spread this month, Wild and Free, is one of the most beautiful fashion shoots I have ever been a part of in all my years at So6ix. We worked with the top fashion boutiques in Oklahoma City, such as Balliets, R Meyers, Mode, Rant, and Beauty Lounge, to showcase everything you need for all the festivals you’re going to in June. Very big props go out to the awesome So6ix gal who envisioned and produced this shoot, Miss Lauren Wright. I hope you enjoy the new issue and all the hard work we put in to make it something great. We really appreciate every one of you for your continued support month in and month out. You’re the reason we do what we do. Hope to see you at one of June’s many awesome festivals!

EATS Before Oklahoma City was what it is today, two passionate individuals saw pure potential in Midtown, and a need for a different kind of restaurant. They decided to take a risk and follow their dream, birthing OKC’s only source of Brazilian cuisine, Café do Brazil!

What We Tasted:

This beautiful restaurant has been standing since November 2005. It has a unique feel you can’t get anywhere else in OKC. Everything, from the color scheme down to the menu, exudes raw Brazilian culture! In addition, right above is another gem called Bossa Nova, which is strictly for the adult crowd. Bossa Nova features a beautiful patio overlooking all of Midtown.

MOQUECA CAPIXABA – Southeast style Prepared in homemade tomato sauce with fresh cilantro, tomatoes, onions, scallions and green and red pepper. Served in a stone pot with rice and pirao a pixaba (fish broth and yuka puree) on the side.

Now let me tell you about the delicious food they’ve got! Their menu comprises different types of food inspired by different regions: seafood, rice, ribs and some of the best chocolate mousse we’ve ever had in the Metro. Everything we tried was a different experience. The chef, Anna Davis, actually travels to Brazil once a year to source out new inspiration to keep the restaurant up to date! Amazing, right? Hold up though, it gets better – they’ve also got brunch! I mean, who doesn’t love brunching? The drinks are so good, we all had to restrain ourselves from going overboard. THEN they sealed the deal when they announced that they had $1 appetizers on Wednesdays during happy hour! That’s when we really fell in love! This is definitely a new favorite for us. Chef Anna, thank you for having us. We will be back for more of your wonderful cooking! 50

COCKTAIL RECIPE

Needed:

Basil

Start basil from the seeds & place the pots in a south-facing window, as they like lots of sun and warmth.

Parsley

You can start from seeds. Parsley likes full sun, but will grow slowly in an east- or west-facing window.

Sage

PEACH BOURBON THYME SMASH CREDIT: ahealthylifeforme.com INGREDIENTS: •

2 oz bourbon

1 oz lemon juice

1 oz simple syrup

1 ripe peach

Fresh ice

2 sprigs fresh thyme, one stripped of leaves

DIRECTIONS: 1.

In a martini shaker add bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup. Cut peach in half, remove pit and squeeze, smashing the peach in your hand over the martini shaker. It’s okay if some peach pieces fall in.

2. Add fresh thyme leaves. Shake vigorously to infuse ingredients. 3.

Fill a lowball glass with fresh ice and pour in bourbon mix.

Take a tip cutting from an outdoor plant to start your indoor sage. It tolerates dry indoor air well, but it needs strong sun, so make sure it has a south-facing window.

Rosemary

Start with a cutting of rosemary, and keep it in a moist soilless mix until it roots. It grows best in a south-facing window.

Oregano

Your best bet is to start with a tip cutting from an outdoor oregano plant. Place the pot in a south-facing window.

Dill

Sow several pots at different stages (like cilantro) for a continual supply. “Fernleaf” dill is a compact variety, ideal for growing indoors.

4. Garnish with fresh thyme and a peach wedge (optional). Enjoy! so6ix.com | JUNE 2016
