27th Annual Swimming Carnival The following information is provided for SMGS students and families for the school’s Swimming Carnival. Swimming Carnival Rules The Swimming Carnival is planned to be a fun day full of enthusiasm and house camaraderie. As much as possible, all students are encouraged to ‘have a go’. Emphasis is on earning points for their house, rather than only on winning. •

Ages are taken at 31 December 2024. Swimmers must swim in their correct age groups. • Senior races are open to age groups 17, 18+. • Intermediate races are open to age groups 15, 16. • Junior races are open to age groups 12, 13, 14. Please note these events are all under race conditions. No aids or flotation devices are allowed in championship events. 25m events are not classed as championship events for 10 years and above. They will not be timed and are participation events only. These events do score house points. At the pool, students are to sit in house areas as marked on map. Swimmers are asked not to congregate in the marshalling area until their race has been called. Races will be combined by the carnival convenor if numbers allow. Times will not be recorded for participation 25m events. Ribbons to third place in every championship event. All events will be decided on times – no finals, as time does not permit. Students entering in a 25m event may NOT also compete in the 50m or 100m event for that stroke. Competitors MUST swim in house caps – these will be supplied at the carnival. Students are encouraged to bring their own. Cascades = Green; Kiandra = White; Mowamba = Light Blue; Twynam = Red. Students will not be permitted to leave the pool grounds during the day. Please bring food and drink. Year 12 will have a food stall selling sausage sandwiches, cakes, fruit and drinks.

House Points Participation Events 25m 1 participation point for entering any individual House Point event. Championship 50m and long-distance event place points. Points allocation for both the combined House Shield pointscore and individual Age Championships are as follows: 1st - 8 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 2nd - 7 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 3rd - 6 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 4th - 5 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 5th - 4 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 6th - 3 points (Championship races - 50m, 100m) 7th and below will receive 2 participation points for entering any championship event. Spirit Shield A committee of staff votes and determines the winner based on the most votes with a 4, 3, 2, 1 format. The committee comprised of: • • • • •

The house with the most votes is declared the winner. Staff will consider house chants, dress, camaraderie, and encouragement of teammates from all age groups. For 2024, we will present the House Spirit Shield at both the Junior School Swimming Carnival and the Middle and Senior School Swimming Carnivals.
