Baptism of the Lord Sunday Order of Worship
GATHERING MUSIC Ilze Akerbergs
GREETING & WELCOME Reverend Jimmy Moore and Reverend Mary Beth Morgan
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE AND THE RINGING OF THE BELLS
PRELUDE Ilze Akerbergs Verset — Lucien Guittard (1892-1942)
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: In the beginning, darkness covered the deep, and God said: “Let there be light!”
All: The voice of the Lord is over the waters!
One: Through the words of the prophet, the Lord said: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
All: Still today, the voice of the Lord is over the waters!
One: When Jesus was baptized by John, suddenly the heavens were opened.
A voice said: “You are my beloved; with you I am well pleased!”
All: In this worship service, as we remember our own baptisms, we affirm:
“The voice of the Lord is over the waters!” Let us worship!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
One: Let us say what we believe: All: We believe in God, Creator of All, who created water to renew and cleanse the earth, and to quench our deep thirsts.
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Beloved of God, with whom we identify in the waters of Baptism, and in all of the ways life may seek to inundate us. In Christ, we find who we are most deeply called to be. We believe in the eternal Spirit of God, who is with us in our baptism.
The Holy Spirit works through the grace of memory to bring to mind the saving and blessing Word.
We celebrate this blessed Three in One! God before us. God with us. God leading us into an adventurous future. Amen!

A CALL TO PRAYER JOYS AND CONCERNS PASTORAL PRAYER SILENT PRAYERS THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

A CALL TO GIVING
Precious Child of God: Beautiful to Behold
OFFERTORY
The Chancel Choir
At the River— Hymn Tune, arr. Aaron Copland
Shall we gather by the river, Where bright angels’ feet have trod, With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God.
Yes we’ll gather by the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river, Gather with the saints by the river
That flows by the throne of God.
Soon we’ll reach the shining river, Soon our pilgrimage will cease, Soon our happy hearts will quiver With the melody of peace.
Yes we’ll gather by the river, The beautiful, the beautiful river, Gather with the saints by the river
That flows by the throne of God..
*THE DOXOLOGY
Be present at our table, Lord, Be here and everywhere adored. The creatures bless, and grant that we may feast in paradise with thee. Amen.
*OFFERTORY PRAYER
Loving God, accept these gifts offered by your children, who are precious to behold. Amen
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION AND REMEMBRANCE OF BAPTISM
The Great Thanksgiving
One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.
One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord.
One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
(The leader offers a prayer of thanksgiving, remembering God’s acts of salvation, and concludes:)
One: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join in their unending hymn:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!
(The leader continues the thanksgiving, recalling the institution of the Lord’s Supper, and concludes:)
One: And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith:
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
(The leader asks for the blessing of the Spirit, and then praises the Trinity, concluding:)
One: All honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. All: Amen.
