GREETING & WELCOME

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE AND THE RINGING OF THE BELLS

INTROIT

A King Came Riding — Michael Jothen Madison Sinan, trumpet

A king came riding on donkey proud. A king came riding with humble crown. A king came riding unto us that day, a mighty king, one joyous day!

And the people came unto him that day. And the people came with palms upraised. And the people came with songs of praise, And the mighty king, one joyous day!

And they sang hosannas unto him that day! And they sang hosannas and song of praise! And they sang hosannas to the mighty king, To the mighty king, who came that day!

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Ben, Abby, Lionel and Amos Brass

One: On a day when Jesus rode a beast of burden into Jerusalem, followers spread cloaks and palms in his path, shouting praises.

All: We come to this service, hoping that we will see God’s grace manifested powerfully in the world, bringing about shouts of “Hosanna!”

One: While many were excited and hopeful, others were confused, and hostile powers became more determined to respond with resistance and violence.

All: While we are hopeful today, we recognize that there are energies in our world that resist the love of Christ in ways sometimes subtle, and sometimes incredibly direct.

One: The joyful entry of Jesus into Jerusalem carries us into a week of conflict and shadow, even as we long for the peace and light of Easter’s resurrection.

All: May God be with us, empowering us to be faithful disciples of the One who brings salvation to our world! Hosanna! Our God, save us!

*GATHERING HYMN AND PROCESSION OF PALMS

Page 6 All Glory, Laud and Honor

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

One: Let us say what we believe.

All: We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God, who has created and is creating, Who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, Who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God.

We are called to be the church: To celebrate God’s presence, To love and serve others, To seek justice and resist evil, To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, Our judge and our hope. In life and in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.

We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Canticle for Palm Sunday — Tom Fettke

Blake White, Trumpet

All Glory, laud, and honor to Thee, Redeemer, King,

To whom the lips of children make sweet hosannas ring. Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David’s royal Son, Who in the Lord’s name comest, The King and Blessed One. Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna to the King!

The company of angels are praising Thee on high, And mortal men and all things created make reply. The people of the Hebrews with palms before Thee went; Our praise and anthems before Thee we present. Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna to the King!

To Thee, before Thy Passion, they sang their hymns of praise; To Thee, no high exalted, Our melody we raise. Thou didst accept their praises; accept the praise we bring, Who in all good delightest, Though good and gracious King. Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna to the King!

*THE DOXOLOGY

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise God, the source of all our gifts!

Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!

Praise the Spirit! Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*OFFERTORY PRAYER

Loving God, we offer these gifts as prayers for the coming of your reign in all the earth. Hosanna! Amen!
