Two fairs in Latin America We have recently attended two fairs in Latin America. One of them was Mexico’s most important incoming fair Tianguis which was held in Guadalajara and just after that we flew to Havana for the FIT Cuba. We had chance to see again recent developments of tourism industry in Latin American countries. Mexico is among the world’s top 10 of world’s tourism. The country welcomed 32 million tourists in 2015. The top source markets are USA and Canada. After took place in Acapulco for several years, now Tianguis takes place in a different Mexican city every two years. We couldn’t recognize Guadalajara city that we have traveled 20 years ago for tourism fair called Eurobolsa. Becoming the Mexico’s second largest city, Guadalajara grew a lot and become a great tourism destination. After attending a fam trip to Chihuahua following Tianguis, we have attended FIT Cuba that was held beginning of May in the capital of Cuba; Havana. The fair attracted tour operators and tourism investors from 26 countries thanks to the normalization of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba. When we have visited Havana 15 years ago, Melia was the only international hotel chain in the island however now Iberostar opened a property and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced three new hotel deals in Cuba, marking the first U.S. based hospitality company to enter the market in nearly 60 years. Cuba which hosted 3.5 million tourists last year, aims to welcome 3.7 million tourists this year. As traveling abroad for Cuban citizens are very difficult, Cuba is an attractive incoming destination. During the fair, Cuba welcomed the first cruise ship visiting the country directly from USA. The arrival of American tourists onboard the ship aroused great excitement among the locals and the tourism industry itself. You would find details and photos from those two fairs in this issue together with other tourism news. In this issue we also present you Blue Voyage - one of the most popular holiday styles in Turkey. Happy holidays!

Collectors’ Choice exhibition opens at Contemporary Istanbul Turkey’s premier international art fair Contemporary Istanbul welcomes its 11th edition with an exciting project titled Collectors’ Choice. Collectors’ Choice is an exceptional exhibition that will showcase 120 artworks personally selected by 60 collectors from their own private collections. An innovative collaboration produced for the very first time in Turkey, the project will take place in a 1,500 m2 exhibition space at CI 2016. The entrance to the bay on which it lies is narrow, so when viewed from the town the bay has the appearance of a lake and departing boats seem to disappear into the mountains. Its lively night scene and good shopping opportunities make Marmaris one of the favorite stops of a yachting cruise. The walls of its old castle enclose the Old Town with lovely crooked narrow streets and marvellous views. In 1522 the Ottoman Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent embarked his troops here for his conquest of the island of Rhodes then held by the Knights of St. John. Day 4: Fethiye Gulf and ancient tours The little town of Fethiye, on the eastern shore of the gulf to which it gives its name, was once the Lycian city of Telmessus whose history can be traced at least as far back as the fifth century B.C.. There are strong indications, however, that the Lycians were the Lukka people referred to in Hittite records as early as the 14th century B.C.. Wars and invasions - especially Arab raids from which the city never quite recovered - and earthquakes of more recent times have left little for us to see of this ancient civilization except the imposing Lycian tombs carved into solid rock. Today Fethiye is a small town with a character that is more Anatolian than most other coastal towns, but tourism is slowly changing the scene. Sailing up Fethiye Gulf after breakfast. Istanbul beats Paris in number of transit flights

Turkish Airlines (THY) Chairman Ilker Ayci recently announced that Istanbul now conducts more outgoing transit flights than Paris thanks to the increasing number of flights by Turkish Airlines. The aviation sector has been going through tough

times, particularly in Europe. Putting aside the effects of the global economic crisis and considerable fluctuations in exchange rates, the biggest threat to hit the aviation sector has been escalating terrorism concerns. Despite the depressed tourism sector in Turkey and in the region, Turkish Airlines increased the percentage of transit flights by 60 percent. The chairman reported that despite the current deterioration of Turkey’s tourism sector, THY increased the percentage of its transit flights to 60 percent; bringing THY’s Istanbul-based airports ahead of those in Paris. Mr. Ayci revealed the next European target for the airline would be London’s Heathrow Airport. Emphasizing that they are working nonstop and trying to further penetrate the African market by searching for opportunities and seeking collaborations, Aycı said they have new partnerships in Senegal and that such collaborations would increase, with THY’s market share increasing in that part of the world.

‘Meet Europe’s Best’ by Turkish Airlines Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines that offers the highest number of international destinations and also countries in a flight network also takes an active interest in Europe’s sporting and cultural events. As the Official Airline Partner to UEFA EURO 2016, the carrier announced a new campaign named ‘Meet Europe’s Best’. The campaign centers around the specially created MeetEuropesBest.com microsite. The microsite will aggregate user generated social media content around the hashtag #EuropesBest. Fans encouraged to showcase the unique and diverse ways in which they support their team using the hashtag for a chance to win flights, accommodation and tickets for themselves and a friend to a UEFA EURO 2016 match. To generate more excitement, Turkish Airlines has teamed up with Hollywood music video director Grady Hall, to film seven adverts spotlighting the competition. Under the banner of ‘Meet Europe’s Best’, the clips showcase the world of professional footballers merged with the unique passenger experience offered by Turkish Airlines. The campaign includes the launch of television commercials, unique plane liveries, ticket giveaways and a dedicated microsite. Celebrations continued during the tournament with select Turkish Airlines planes showing live matches, activation zones in four host cities and branding across notable sites across Paris. Turkish Airlines’ Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Ahmet Olmuştur said, “The Meet Europe’s Best campaign is a celebration of UEFA EURO 2016 and of the fans that will be at

Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey with a population of around 3.7 million, the second biggest port after Istanbul, and a very good transport hub. Once the ancient city of Smyrna, İzmir is now a modern, developed, and busy commercial center, set around a huge bay and surrounded by mountains. The broad boulevards, glass-fronted buildings and modern shopping centers are dotted with traditional red-tiled roofs, the 18th century market, and old mosques and churches, although the city has an atmosphere more of Mediterranean Europe than traditional Turkey.
