How to Improve Productivity at Work? Whether you work for yourself as a sole trader, or are a manager responsible for numerous members of staff, most of us are concerned with the amount of productivity that goes on in the work place. Increased output is inextricably linked with increased revenues, and hopefully increased profits. No matter what industry you work in people will have spent considerable time, effort and money on trying to establish what really makes people tick, and what makes them work better. Various studies have shown that bonuses and perks (such as a designated parking space or dress-down Fridays) may contribute to a happy working environment, and in turn this may mean staff work harder. However, other studies have shown that the physical layout of the work space may have a larger impact than was at first thought. The workspace: what you should consider Some of the main things that should be taken into consideration when designing a work space are:  Furniture – with most of us spending a large portion of our week indoors and at work, it is important that the furniture we sit on and use, is suitable. Not only should it be aesthetically pleasing, but it should also be comfortable. Chairs should be adjustable to ensure a perfect fit for each employee and all items should be well maintained and cared for. Staff who are comfortable at work will spend less time fidgeting, and will therefore be less distracted and better able to focus on their work.
