COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

CLASSROOM CURRICULUM CONNECTS TO THE COMMUNITY

▶ Real-world experiences

▶ Impactful partnerships with individuals and organizations

▶ Designed to enrich student learning and achievement

INTRODUCED IN 2017-18

FACILITATES INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING

A form of active learning that starts by posing questions, problems, or scenarios.

COMBINES:

Experiential Learning + Independent Study + Learning Partnerships

experiential education approach provides authentic, dynamic, and meaningful opportunities for students to gain knowledge, inspire curiosity, and explore more deeply while complementing the curriculum. It combines independent study, which is embedded in all our courses, offering students the opportunity to explore a concept or topic that is relevant r own learning. Learning partnerships deepen the learning by facilitating a stronger connection between the classroom and real world.

DEEP LEARNING

A set of core competencies that students need to survive and thrive in an ever-changing global world.

Teach me Goodness, DISCIPLINE, AND KNOWLEDGE

“I learned a lot and met a ton of amazing people during the speed session. The fact that there were many unconventional career paths on display made the session very interesting and eye-opening.” CLASS OF ’24

“This is such a great programme for the students. They are learning things about the law and the legal profession that I didn’t know as a fourth-year university student. I hope that many of them will become lawyers, but I know that all of them will benefit from this experience, regardless of their chosen calling.” CLASS OF ’98

“The conference was very well organized and thoughtful. Thank you for your work in creating this needed space.”

TEACHER, CIS ONTARIO

“Every presenter we had was inspiring. I am glad we had this opportunity to connect with students from other schools and network with business professionals.” CLASS OF ’23

“Seeing Obama speak live and in person is definitely an experience I will remember for the rest of my life, and will be a highlight of my time at St. Michael’s. The message Obama gave during his speech at Canada 2020 was one I felt directed at my peers and myself. He spoke about the future generations, my generation, and the faith he has in us to solve the mistakes ongoing in today’s world.” CLASS OF ’18

“I think the March Break business trip taught us a lot about independence and exploring new places. This was the first time a lot of us were traveling without our parents and I think that type of adventure is essential to growing and finding yourself. I would 100% recommend the trip to anyone who is interested in learning and cultivating an unforgettable experience with your friends.” CLASS OF ’23

“The energy in the conversations was matched only by the students’ fervour to pursue their goals. It was a valuable experience for both sides and as an alumnus I am excited to see the world these young men help create.” CLASS OF ’07

“From MLSE for computer science students to Glen Dimplex and Yale University’s surgery department for engineering, students experience first-hand opportunities in their desired professions which sets them apart in university.” SMCS FACULTY
