advancement Thank you to all of our donors who have graciously and generously stood by St. Michael’s and supported our many programmes and initiatives with their financial and/or gifts-in-kind donations. These gifts have been very much appreciated especially during the difficult economic times of this past year. One important initiative has been the Archives and Museum. In 2008, the Archives were relocated to the second floor of the arena which has been extensively renovated to house the historical records and many artifacts. The old St. Michael’s Majors hockey suites were converted into archive storage and office space while the “birthday room” is in the process of becoming the new museum. A new HVAC system was installed and filters applied to the windows and lights to protect the artifacts. Displays were created for the Homecoming and Turkey Roll during this year to generate interest and to show some of the collection. As more alumni become aware of this facility, more are coming forth with artifacts to help tell the St. Michael’s story. The long-term goal is to promote the proud heritage of our school to current students through our curriculum. Many continue to support our annual giving fund and the capital campaign; Building On Strong Foundations and the following pages reflect those who have donated. Several alumni have stepped forward to establish bursaries in the memory of Basilian Fathers who have touched their lives, these bursaries are: The Fr. Leo Campbell, C.S.B. Bursary was established to assist a student who is a member of the Music programme and is unable to afford the tuition cost of a St. Michael’s education. The Bursary was created in honour and memory of Fr. Leo Campbell, C.S.B. whose musical talents and contributions to the St. Michael’s community are missed. The Fathers Ron and Bud Cullen, C.S.B. Bursary was established in 2008 to assist an incoming grade nine student-athlete, preferably a member of the Toronto Junior Argo football programme, who is unable to afford the tuition cost of a St. Michael’s education. The Bursary was created in honour of Rev. Ron and Rev. Bud Cullen, brothers and Basilian Fathers who have dedicated their lives to their students’ Catholic education. This bursary is for one half of the current school fees (includes tuition, textbooks, blazer, shirt, tie and if required, transportation). The Bursary is committed to the candidate who continues to qualify academically until graduation. The Fr. Rocco Volpe, C.S.B. Bursary was established in memory of Fr. Volpe who passed away in July, 2007. Fr. Volpe was a former student, teacher, coach and chaplain at St. Michael’s College School. A kind and gentle man, Fr. Volpe spent much of his life devoted to the teaching profession. He was known for his love of athletics, the arts, languages and learning, and was especially proud of his Italian heritage. The Bursary was established in consultation with Fr. Volpe’s family. Equally important are those that also gave of their time volunteering. Thank you so much for lending your support, time and expertise! You make our events and office run so much smoother.
