Asthma is a condition that affects the airways – the small tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. The airways become over-sensitive, which means that they react to things that would normally not cause a problem, such as cold air or dust. Ireland has the 4th highest rate of asthma in the world with over 470,000 people affected by this chronic lung condition. Recent studies have shown that up to 60% of Irish patients do not have their asthma under control with up to 14% of patients requiring a visit to A&E and 8% of patients admitted to hospital in the past year. However good control of asthma is possible for the majority of patients and can be achieved with help from the Asthma Society of Ireland and your healthcare professional.
World Asthma Day is on Tuesday 1st May and to mark this Sam McCauley Chemists are working with the Asthma Society of Ireland during the month of May to offer a number of “Asthma in the Pharmacy Days” in our stores. Nurse specialists from the Asthma Society of Ireland will be in store to provide advice, support and information on asthma and they will be happy to help you to understand and manage your asthma.

EASING ALLERGIES SUMMER CAN SPELL SNEEZE-FEST FOR HAYFEVER SUFFERERS BUT AT SAM MCCAULEY CHEMISTS YOU CAN RECEIVE PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE TO FIND A SOLUTION TO E ASE YOUR SYMP TOMS. Hayfever, or seasonal allergic rhinitis as it is known medically, affects one in five people and is mainly caused by grass pollen. It is an allergic reaction to pollen and spores and often leads to the onset of irritating and uncomfortable symptoms, including itchy, watering eyes, runny nose, sneezing and headaches. Scientists say the allergy season is arriving earlier and earlier in the wake of global warming. Antihistamines, nasal sprays and decongestants can help, but ideally anyone suffering from Hayfever should ask their local Sam McCauley pharmacist or GP about the best treatment options for them and work out a treatment plan in advance of the high pollen season. Cetrine is an extremely effective hayfever treatment and is available in packs of 30. Many sufferers of hayfever do not consider using a nasal spray, however there are two effective nasal sprays worth considering.
Flixonase Allergy Relief Nasal Spray works by preventing the release of inflammatory chemicals which cause the symptoms of hayfever. It is suitable for adults and offers fast relief and relieves congestion, sneezing, runny nose as well as easing pressure around the eyes and nose. Nasacort Allergy Nasal Spray is now available in Sam McCauley Chemists. This is only suitable for adults over 18 years of age and was previously only available on prescription. It contains a medicine called triamcinolone acetonide, which is a corticosteroid, and should be used once daily. It is very effective at reducing the symptoms of hayfever, if used on a regular basis. If you suffer severely then it is worth discussing this spray with your local Sam McCauley pharmacist. For those individuals who suffer from swollen or itchy eyes, antihistamine eye drops can be very effective and can be used in conjunction with oral

anti-histamine tablets – ask your local Sam McCauley Pharmacist for a recommendation. The worst days in Ireland for hayfever sufferers are hot, sunny days with light winds and no rain. The better the weather, the shorter the pollen season is, but pollen levels will be higher. I loved the results of this wand! It has a controlled temperature setting making it great for someone to use with fragile hair. The 32mm barrel gives beautiful big waves that last all day! The wand heats up really quick (30 seconds) which is great for when you’re in a rush and need to change your style! It boasts a grip Teflon ceramic coating which allows the hair to glide off the barrel smoothly. It gave me exactly what I wanted which was loose curls that lasted.
This brush is so easy to use and the results are amazing. I have quite thick hair so I'm not a lover of straightening my hair regularly, this brush made it so easy and surprisingly quick.
