Our first participation at the Smart Home Expo in 2023 in New Delhi was a memorable one. As a German manufacturer without direct business operations in India, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the warm welcome we received, especially through the KNX National Group India, made it feel like home. I’m especially thankful to Bhavesh Doshi from Entelechy Systems and Sandeep Saurabh Singh, whose incredible support and organization made our presence possible and seamless. In 2024, we exhibited again—this time in Mumbai—and I had the opportunity to speak on stage. The event exceeded expectations and reaffirmed how important this platform is for anyone in the building automation space. It’s been an honor to represent Weinzierl and be part of the global KNX family at such a high-caliber event. Now, as we gear up for Smart Home Expo 2025, I’m excited to share the stage with my colleagues and showcase our latest innovations. One of the highlights will be the KNX TP Push Button 420.1 secure—a smart, multifunctional device that acts as a room temperature controller with integrated sensors, fan control, visual LED feedback, and an acoustic signal feature. It’s part of our MATCH 55 series, designed for flexibility and style.

With cloud storage, recordings are backed up in real time and encrypted with advanced algorithms, rendering the footage immune to physical damage, tampering, or unauthorized access. In an age where data is gold, we have armored our vault.

But this isn’t just about safety; it’s also about unmatched convenience. Users can now access their recordings from anywhere in the world through the EzyKam+ Mobile App. Whether checking in on your pets while at work or reviewing a security incident while traveling abroad, the cloud keeps you connected without complication.

Atios: Smart Homes with Wired Reliability & Seamless Control

Can you provide an overview of ATIOS and its journey in the smart home and home automation industry?

Atios started with a focus on wireless smart home products, which we successfully developed and later sold as a dedicated division. When planning our next generation of devices, we made a clear decision to go wired. The reasons were simple: wireless means ongoing maintenance with batteries, which doesn’t scale well in large or newly built properties. And when you’re already laying cables, it makes sense to transmit both power and data—exactly what bus-based systems like KNX and DALI are made for.

KNX and DALI are well-established, reliable standards with no vendor lock-in on the hardware side. However, each manufacturer tends to build their own app, leading to fragmented control systems. That’s why we combine wired bus systems with Matter—the

Malte Göller, CEO, ATIOS discusses the upcoming launch of the Atios KNX Bridge and Atios SmartCore at Smart Home Expo 2025.

only truly open app and voice control protocol, backed by Apple, Google, Amazon, and others. This gives integrators and homeowners the best of both worlds: robust infrastructure with seamless control.

Atios emphasizes being Easy, Flexible, and Secure—how do you achieve this balance while maintaining cost-effective, highquality Smart Home products?

Easy: Matter provides an intuitive app and voice control for users, and daisy-chained bus wiring is simple for electricians—often much easier than individually pairing wireless devices.

Flexible: Bus systems and Matter scale easily. You can add devices, scenes, and automation later, and since these standards are futureoriented, they adapt well over time.

Secure: Matter is encrypted end-to-end and

supports local-only communication. KNX and DALI are inherently secure by requiring physical access, and KNX Secure, is now encrypted too.

All our development is done in-house in Switzerland—from hardware to software— including our own Matter stack running on a single microcontroller. This tight integration ensures high quality and cost efficiency.

Does the Atios SmartCore require an active internet connection to function? And how does the Matter standard fit into your current or future product strategy?

No, SmartCore and our other devices work completely locally. Logic, automation, and control are all on-device. While Apple and Google ecosystems may require the internet for voice control, Matter is designed to support fully local operation too. Platforms like Home Assistant already prove this.

We’ve chosen not to build our app. Instead, we rely on Matter as the future of smart home control—just like Apple Pay and Google Pay have become the default for digital payments, Matter will become the default for smart device control.

With DALI now a standard in lighting, how does your built-in KNX-DALI gateway reduce installation complexity and hardware requirements?

The Atios KNX Bridge combines three devices into one: a KNX IP interface, a KNX-DALI gateway, and a Matter bridge. This means fewer modules, lower costs, and a more compact distribution board. The Bridge also powers the DALI bus directly, eliminating the need for a separate power supply and DALI gateway— simplifying both planning and installation.

What advantages does your built-in KNXIP interface offer when connecting to ETS, especially for integrators and installers?

The KNX IP interface works immediately—just plug in via Ethernet and start programming in ETS. There’s no need for an external IP router or USB dongle. It supports multiple connections,

so programming and diagnostics can be done simultaneously.

We’re also preparing support for ETS Cloud Connect, which will allow remote programming, and KNX IP Secure, adding encrypted access. These features will make remote troubleshooting and updates easier— no need for physical site visits for small changes.

How does Atios leverage proven technologies like KNX, DALI, and Matter to simplify smart home installations while staying future-ready? KNX, DALI, and Matter are all strong, open standards—and they’re still being developed further. Our approach combines them in a way that’s already future-ready, but we also support their continued evolution.

At the same time, we know that some tools, like ETS, can be overkill for certain projects. We’re working on simplified configuration tools to make setup even easier, especially in large-scale deployments.

Can you tell us about the new range you’ll be showcasing at the Smart Home Expo 2025?

At the Expo, we’re launching our two product lines for the Indian market:

∙ Atios KNX Bridge: Designed for mid to highend villas with KNX-based systems.

∙ Atios SmartCore: Ideal for large-scale residential developments, especially those with 100+ apartments. It can be marketed as “Matter-ready” and provides a full smart living experience with a great cost-performance ratio.

Given the scale of construction in India and the high level of technical talent in the integrator community, we believe our Swiss-engineered products are a great fit to bring modern automation to a wider market.

Hegel’s High-Performance Audio World: From SoundEngine to Smart Integration

Johan Coorg

Asia Sales Director, Hegel

Can you tell us about Hegel and the company’s journey?

Bent Holter, who holds a PhD in electronics and circuit design, is the mastermind behind the innovative technology in Hegel products, with several patents to his name. In his early days, Bent was the guitarist in an amateur rock band called The Hegel Band. Legend has it that before one of their gigs, their amplifier blew up, and with no money to buy a replacement, Bent offered to build a new one. The result was so impressive that friends soon asked for more. By the mid-1990s, Bent decided to channel this talent into creating high-performance amplifiers for home use. To this day, he remains the chief designer of all Hegel products.

Today, Hegel enjoys a stellar reputation worldwide among audiophiles who value exceptional sound quality and advanced

Interview with Johan Coorg, Asia Sales Director, Hegel shares Hegel’s journey, groundbreaking audio technologies, and what to expect from their showcase at Smart Home Expo 2025.

functionality—without the hefty price tag. Why? Because Hegel’s philosophy focuses on what truly matters: the technology inside. Their products may have an unassuming, minimalist design, but the real investment is in the superior audio performance that lies beneath the surface.

Could you provide an overview of your current product range? What are some of the standout products that you’re most excited about?

Hegel specializes in amplifiers, including both stereo and multichannel power amps. In addition to amplifiers, Hegel makes preamplifiers, DACs, and a CD player. In recent years, Hegel’s reputation has surged, particularly for its high-performance, multifunctional integrated amplifiers.

On a personal note, I’m a proud owner

of the H600, Hegel’s flagship integrated model. It embodies all of Hegel’s core strengths—delivering exceptional sound quality, remarkable versatility, and the convenience of a powerful all-in-one solution. It’s truly a standout in both performance and functionality.

Can you explain the technology behind your most popular products? How do these innovations contribute to a smarter and more efficient home?

All Hegel amps are very low distortion and linear in behaviour, blessed with a very high damping factor. This means all Hegel amplifiers can drive and control even the most unforgiving loudspeaker loads with astonishing ease. Even our baby-integrated H95 will do justice to drive speakers priced many times more.

Core Hegel technologies:

SoundEngine Technology

The patented Hegel SoundEngine technology ensures pristine audio performance by eliminating distortion at every amplifier stage. Unlike traditional class A and AB amplifiers, SoundEngine combines the best of both worlds—offering the warmth and detail of class A with the efficiency of class AB, without their typical drawbacks.

It cancels crossover distortion and highfrequency artifacts, which are often most noticeable to the human ear, delivering a cleaner, more dynamic sound. Using local, adaptive feedforward rather than global negative feedback, SoundEngine preserves the original music’s details and dynamic range, providing exceptional sound quality in every note.

HegaSynchroDAC

HegaSynchroDAC: Hegel has done a lot of research to be able to design the DAC converter boards in-house to convert digital audio data into high-resolution analog audio from the CDs. To be able to design the CD DAC converter boards in the best possible way requires a lot of deep technical knowledge in the fields of low-noise analog electronics,

high-frequency electronics, signal processing electronics and advanced circuit board layout techniques.

Zennio to Unveil RemoteBOX and Champagne Collection at Smart Home Expo 2025

Can you walk us through Zennio’s journey and how the company has evolved over the years? What is the range of products you offer today?

Zennio was founded in 2005 with a clear mission: to enhance comfort and energy efficiency through innovative and reliable automation solutions. From the outset, our focus on engineering excellence and adaptability has driven a consistent path of growth, making us one of the most internationally recognized KNX manufacturers today.

We were the first Spanish company to develop and certify a KNX product. Just five years into our journey, over 70% of our revenue already came from international markets—a trend that continues to this day. Today, Zennio operates in 123 countries and has 11 subsidiaries across Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica,

Javier Fernández Garrido, Hospitality Vertical Manager, Zenniodraft, discusses the tailored solution the brands offer for the hospitality industry and more.

the Middle East, the United States, Italy, and Singapore. This international structure enables us to offer localized technical support while maintaining a unified product vision.

Over the past two decades, we’ve delivered more than 12,000 projects and automated over 90,000 hotel rooms and 35,000 residences. Our product portfolio includes a wide range of

KNX-certified devices: multifunction actuators for controlling lighting, HVAC, blinds, and access; sleek and customizable user interfaces such as capacitive switches and touch panels; and various modules that ensure robust, centralized control.

But beyond the devices themselves, what truly sets Zennio apart is the power and flexibility of our full solution. It is designed for seamless integration—not just within the KNX ecosystem, but also with third-party systems such as PMS, BMS, AV, and access control platforms. This ability to interconnect and adapt to each project’s specific ecosystem makes our technology both scalable and future-proof.

Whether in residential, hospitality, or commercial environments, we deliver a complete, stable, and tailored automation experience that evolves with our clients’ needs.

Zennio has a strong presence in the hospitality industry. Could you share insights into the specialized solutions you offer for this sector?

The strength of Zennio’s hospitality solution lies in its remarkable versatility and robustness. We deliver a standardised yet fully scalable system that seamlessly adapts to any type of hotel—whether it’s a six-star luxury resort, a 5,000-room Caribbean complex, a boutique

hotel, or even our smallest project to date: a one-room lighthouse in Spain.

Built on the KNX protocol, our ecosystem enables the intelligent control of virtually any function a hotel may require: lighting, climate, blinds, fans, underfloor heating, scene management, and more, independently or in combination. The system is highly customizable, adapting to both architectural aesthetics and operational needs.

Our solution also brings substantial energy efficiency benefits. We don’t just enable savings—we empower hotels with realtime consumption monitoring and detailed analytics, allowing better decisions, predictive maintenance, and sustainability tracking. This is a critical advantage in today’s competitive and eco-conscious market.

One of Zennio’s strongest differentiators is our outstanding integration capability. Our Guest Room Management System (GRMS) is designed to interact seamlessly with third-party platforms such as PMS (Opera, Protel, etc.), Access Control Systems (Salto, Vingcard, Dormakaba, etc), housekeeping and maintenance apps (H-mobile, HotSOS, etc), mobile guest apps, BMS, and back-ofhouse systems. This open integration layer ensures that our solution becomes the digital backbone of hotel operations, improving both

guest satisfaction and staff efficiency.

The value we offer extends beyond technology. Large hotel groups trust us because our platform guarantees a consistent, standardized experience across locations while remaining flexible enough to meet local and brand-specific requirements. That’s why global brands such as Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Accor, IHG, Iberostar, Six Senses, Hard Rock, Radisson, Hyatt, and Rosewood have chosen Zennio.

Some iconic projects that exemplify our impact include:

* Six Senses Ibiza (Spain) — where sustainability and luxury meet through advanced room automation.

* Ritz-Carlton Nekajui and Waldorf Astoria in Costa Rica — both prime examples of ultraluxury automation integrated with nature.

* St. Regis Cap Cana (Dominican Republic), Sofitel The Grand Amsterdam, and Meliá ME Milan — each with distinct architectures, unified by Zennio’s reliability and design adaptability.

For both residential and commercial segments, what are some of the standout features and innovations in your product

range? How do these products enhance user experiences in smart living environments?

Zennio offers a holistic and reliable smart automation ecosystem tailored to both residential and commercial environments. While the core architecture remains the same, we adapt the focus of each project to the priorities of the end user—comfort and personalization in homes, efficiency and scalability in commercial spaces.

In the residential segment, homeowners value the ability to fully personalize their spaces. Our system enables users to control every aspect of the home—lighting, climate, shutters, scenes, and more—directly from their smartphone or tablet, even remotely. Real-time status monitoring, custom scenes (such as `relax’, `welcome’, or `away’), and seamless transitions between day and night modes all contribute to a superior lifestyle experience. Our elegant capacitive touch panels—Z50, Z70, and Z100—further enhance this experience with high-definition displays, intuitive interfaces, and full customization to match any interior design.

On the commercial side, the focus shifts toward intelligent energy management and

system integration. Our solutions excel in smart lighting control with DALI interfaces, real-time consumption tracking, presencebased automation, and detailed analytics. In particular, our presence sensors with CO₂ detection bring added value in terms of comfort, air quality, and space optimization— key considerations in modern workspaces and public buildings.

Moreover, the system supports emergency lighting reporting and predictive maintenance, helping facility managers reduce operational costs and streamline compliance with safety regulations.

Ultimately, what makes Zennio’s approach unique is the flexibility and depth of a single, unified solution that scales effortlessly from apartments to large commercial buildings, while offering best-in-class user interfaces, integration capabilities, and performance reliability.

Integration is key in smart home ecosystems. How do Zennio’s products integrate with existing smart home systems? Are they compatible with multiple platforms, or are they designed for specific ecosystems? Please elaborate on the interoperability of your solutions.

Interoperability is a core strength of Zennio’s

architecture. As a native KNX manufacturer, we build open and future-ready systems that are designed to integrate—not isolate. This allows our products to communicate seamlessly with a wide range of third-party platforms, both in residential and commercial applications.

Through our KNX-IP interface, Zennio systems can connect with popular voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as third-party control systems, including AV platforms, Building Management Systems (BMS), and energy metering solutions. This ensures full flexibility for integrators and end users who wish to create comprehensive, unified environments.

In addition, Zennio offers integration with video intercom systems, significantly expanding

functionality when combined with our KNX ecosystem. Users can view IP cameras and door stations directly on our touch panels, enabling a seamless and intuitive experience for both access control and surveillance.

This level of integration enables homeowners and facility managers alike to consolidate control, improve security, and enhance user interaction—all within a single, elegant and reliable platform. Whether it’s controlling your home with a voice command or centralizing energy and lighting management in a

commercial building, Zennio is designed to be at the heart of your smart ecosystem.

Looking ahead, what exciting new products or innovations can we expect from Zennio at Smart Home Expo 2025?

At Smart Home Expo 2025, visitors can expect to see a clear reflection of Zennio’s vision for the future: smarter integration, enhanced user experience, and an ever-closer union between technology and design.

Among the key innovations we’ll showcase is the ShutterBOX Drive 4CH, a next-generation actuator for shutters that introduces automatic measurement of travel times and a revolutionary event control system. This allows blind and slat positioning to dynamically adapt to the sun’s exact position throughout the day, offering increased comfort and optimizing energy use without user intervention. For integrators, this means faster installations, greater precision, and smarter automation out of the box.

On the sensor side, the new Presentia C Multisensor takes occupancy detection to a whole new level by combining motion detection with CO₂ and humidity monitoring. This enables automatic adjustments to ventilation and HVAC systems, improving indoor air quality and offering a smarter approach to healthy buildings. Its 360° ceiling-mounted design and zoned presence detection make it especially useful in offices, meeting rooms, or educational spaces.

Design lovers will be drawn to the latest evolution of our popular Z35 screen—Z35 v3. With a sleeker form factor, enhanced screen definition, and a more intuitive navigation interface, this version embodies our commitment to merging usability with aesthetics. It’s already become a favorite in the hospitality sector for its balance of style and functionality.

Another standout debut for 2025 is RemoteBOX, a breakthrough in remote control for KNX installations. Until now, our capacitive touch panels—Z50, Z70, and Z100— acted as the central hub for managing the entire system and enabling remote access via the Zennio Remote app. With RemoteBOX, this functionality is now possible without the need for a physical screen. It provides full remote control of lighting, climate, blinds, and

more, directly from a smartphone. It includes KNX Secure, 10 integrated logic functions, and is scalable up to 180 controls with additional licenses. RemoteBOX offers the same intelligent control experience, making advanced automation more accessible and adaptable to different types of projects.

Finally, we’re excited to highlight the Champagne Collection, our new product finish that reflects a refined aesthetic direction. This subtle, warm tone adds a touch of timeless elegance to our switches, panels, and touch interfaces—an evolution born from our desire to deliver solutions that not only perform beautifully but look beautiful too. Whether blending into high-end interiors or standing out as a design statement, the Champagne Collection demonstrates that in modern automation, detail matters.

In short, Zennio’s presence at Smart Home

Expo 2025 will showcase how we continue to expand the possibilities of home and building automation—smarter, healthier, more stylish.

Trinnov to Showcase WaveForming™ and Next-Gen Audio for Modern Spaces

Tom Garrett, International Sales Manager, Trinnov Audio, shares his views on technologies like WaveForming™, and what visitors can expect at their booth at Smart Home Expo 2025.

Can you tell us a little about Trinnov Audio’s journey and trendsetting offerings?

Trinnov Audio has built a strong reputation over more than 20 years, delivering cutting-

edge digital signal processing and patented technologies. At the core of our innovation is the Optimizer, now enhanced by our latest breakthrough: Waveforming. This technology has redefined what’s possible in room acoustics, enabling our partners to achieve exceptional bass performance—even in spaces once considered acoustically challenging.

Through numerous trade show demonstrations, we’ve consistently proven that seat-to-seat consistency within ±1.5 dB is attainable using simple front-and-back subwoofer arrays. This level of precision means that traditional passive bass traps are no longer necessary—Waveforming offers a superior, more efficient solution for managing lowfrequency performance.

Tom Garrett
International Sales Manager, Trinnov Audio

With the shift in consumer preferences towards more versatile, multi-functional entertainment spaces, how does Trinnov Audio’s approach address these evolving needs? What are the ranges you have to offer?

The biggest challenge with multifunctional spaces is that, ultimately, the acoustics found within them are inherently challenged. You cannot use traditional absorbers, diffusers or diffractors and bass traps as these would be visually unattractive and therefore get the sign Off from the stakeholders involved in the project. If you take into account what can be achieved with digital acoustics, which is Trinnov’s suite of bespoke software tools, this can make even the most acoustically challenging environment. A pleasure to listen to while still working in tandem with any passive acoustics that can be implemented in the space.

Can you tell us about the new range you’ll be showcasing at the Smart Home Expo 2025?

Will be showcasing the Trinnov Altitude 32 in multiple rooms alongside the incredibly flexible amplitude 16 Power AMP

WaveForming™ has been described as a revolutionary advancement in audio technology. Can you explain the core principles behind it and how it differs from traditional audio design?

Waveforming is a fundamental advancement in base reproduction technology, offering amazing seat-to-seat consistency in the sub frequencies, along with an incredibly low reverberation time which would not be achievable with any other technologies. It takes an ordinary installation to completely reach previously unheard-of levels.

The core principle is that we address every subwoofer within the array individually. Only by doing that can we accommodate the subtle nuances of construction that exist within every room out there. We also sample across the listener area the acoustic properties of each subwoofer and work out precisely what is happening. So again, we can accommodate, improve, and ultimately deliver an earthshattering experience.

Apart from the new range, what other range/ devices that the professionals can expect to see at your stall at the Smart Home Expo?

What attendees can get from attending our booth is in-depth technical conversations on how best to design cinemas. How best to place speakers in the correct positions with minimal compromise and ultimately leave with in-depth comprehension of how best to strive to reach the next level of performance.

You’ve been associated and participating in the Smart Home Expo for several editions. What has your experience been so far, and what motivates you to continue participating? Additionally, how do you see the expo contributing to the growth and awareness of the smart home industry in the future?

So far, the overall experience has been pretty good with lots of attendees. All are interested in hearing, listening and understanding about what we offer. I’m looking forward to seeing how the show grows over the forthcoming years.

has been at the forefront of home automation in India since 2003. Over the past two decades, we’ve witnessed—and contributed to—a remarkable transformation in how automation technologies are perceived and used in Indian homes and commercial spaces.

Narendra Bachhawat, B T Automation Pvt. Ltd. Says, “B.T. Automation, based in Kolkata,

In our initial projects, we worked with platforms like LK IHC, which involved logicheavy programming to deliver what were then considered groundbreaking solutions—such as dimming tube lights and scene-based control of fans and lighting using C-Bus. These early innovations, though technically challenging, laid the foundation for how we approached

comfort, convenience, and control within a space.

Back then, home automation was perceived as a luxury—often requiring extensive client education just to help them envision its possibilities. The idea of automated curtains or lighting control was met with skepticism or seen as excessive. However, over the years, the narrative has shifted dramatically. What was once a luxury is now increasingly a necessity, driven by heightened awareness, digital lifestyles, and evolving client expectations.

Today, smart technologies are seamlessly integrated into everyday living. Our approach has evolved from offering individual automated features to building fully connected ecosystems tailored to each client’s needs. We specialize in KNX-based systems, renowned globally for their reliability and interoperability. To further enhance user experience and flexibility, we integrate KNX with platforms like CasaDigi, allowing us to control and customize everything from lighting, HVAC, and curtains to security systems and multimedia—essentially anything the client envisions.

Smart Residential Spaces

The residential sector is witnessing a steady rise in the adoption of Smart Home Technologies. Home automation products such as smart thermostats, lighting systems, security cameras, and voice assistants (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant) are making homes more connected and efficient.

Hardesh Chawla and Monica Chawla, Directors and Creative Heads, Essentia Environments, highlighting the number of Smart Homes they design in a year, says, “We design and execute close to 25-30 high-end smart homes annually.

From our early projects that featured basic lighting controls and motorized blinds, we have moved to holistic ecosystems that include centralized home automation, intelligent lighting scenes, integrated AV systems, smart thermostats, biometric security, and energyefficient appliances. Today’s clients are digitally aware and expect seamless experiences—

voice-enabled controls, remote access, and system integration are the bare minimum.”

Being an expert and often having repeat clients, Hardesh says, “Interestingly, we’re seeing a marked rise in preference for personalized automation—clients want tech that adapts to their lifestyle rather than the other way around. Mood-based lighting scenes, occupancysensing HVAC, AI-powered audio-visual setups, and intuitive mobile control interfaces are in high demand. Repeat clients often upgrade their older systems to match newer smart trends and appreciate when we provide future-ready, scalable solutions.”

Amit Porwal, Founder and Principal, IPIPL, who is known for designing high-end luxury homes, says, “On average, we design between 15 to 20 smart homes annually, depending on the scale and complexity of each project. Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed a significant surge in clients’ demand for integrated smart solutions. Most of our residential designs now feature comprehensive Home Automation Systems that allow centralized control of lighting, HVAC, curtains, and entertainment systems via smartphones or voice commands. In homes with features like 20-feet-tall windows, for example, automated curtain systems are not just a luxury—they’re a practical necessity.

Smart lighting is another key component, we frequently integrate, offering mood-based scene settings, motion sensors, and energy-

saving features to enhance both convenience and efficiency. Home theatres are also a popular request, complete with surround sound systems, acoustic panelling, and automation that synchronizes the projector, lighting, and audio systems. In one of our recent projects, we custom-designed wall-mounted acoustic panels that not only improved sound quality but also added to the visual appeal of the space.

Smart thermostats and climate control systems are commonly included as well, offering personalized comfort while optimizing energy consumption. Security is a top priority, with clients opting for advanced systems that include smart door locks, video door phones, CCTV surveillance, and remote monitoring capabilities. Additionally, we incorporate energy-efficient appliances and IoT-enabled devices that support sustainable, future-ready living.”

Speaking about clients’ preference, Amit Porwal adds, “Our clients are increasingly drawn to user-friendly and scalable smart home systems that prioritize convenience, security, and energy efficiency, without adding unnecessary complexity. A few key preferences consistently emerge across our projects. Voice control compatibility with platforms like Alexa and Google Home is highly sought after for its

intuitive user experience. Automated lighting systems that respond to natural light levels and room occupancy are also popular, as they blend functionality with energy savings. Many clients prefer a minimalist tech aesthetic, where devices are seamlessly integrated into the interior design and remain discreet.

Home theatre systems continue to be in demand, especially those offering immersive sound and synchronized lighting control. Clients also value design details such as custom acoustic wall panels that not only enhance the audio performance but also contribute to the

room’s overall visual appeal. Remote access via mobile apps is another must-have, enabling homeowners to monitor and control various aspects of their property from anywhere in the world.

For high-end residences, a security-first approach is critical, with features like biometric access control and 24/7 remote surveillance systems becoming standard. We often work with repeat clients who return to upgrade or expand their existing setups, trusting our expertise to guide them through the latest smart home technologies and evolving trends.”

Neha Garg, Founder & Principal Designer, Studio Jane Designs, says, “We work on about 5–6 homes a year that involve smart integrations in some capacity. And honestly, no two homes are the same. Some clients want fully automated setups—centralised control systems, smart lighting that shifts through the day, motorised blinds, climate control, the works. Others want specific upgrades—maybe just a smart theatre room with acoustic panelling or tunable lights they can dim from their phone. Smart security is usually non-negotiable: biometric entry, digital locks, surveillance systems, and Appconnected alerts are standard asked for. In one of our projects, Mrignain home, we went a step further with invisible wall speakers, so the music flows through the house without a single speaker in sight. In Sassy Bow, we had some fun with artistic automation—lighting

synced to artwork and movement, almost like a theatrical experience. It’s not about loading up on every gadget—it’s about making the tech feel seamless, intuitive, and responsive to how people actually live.

She further elaborates, “Most repeat clients come back knowing exactly what they want— and, more importantly, what they don’t want. Top of the list? Simplicity. Nobody wants ten remotes and a tech manual to turn the lights off. Smart lighting is definitely the most popular feature—scene settings, dimmable options, and circadian lighting that adapts to the time of day. It’s the easiest upgrade that makes the whole home feel elevated.

Invisible tech is big, too—like wall-integrated audio, subtle automation, lights that fade in gently instead of flicking on. Those extra touches—like syncing sound across zones or lighting that responds to mood or activity— make all the difference. What people want most is smart tech that doesn’t feel like tech. It should blend in, support their lifestyle, and never get in the way.”

Smart Office

Coming to the next segment, Smart offices are evolving with automation technologies that boost productivity, streamline operations, and enhance workplace experiences. Hybrid work tools like Zoom and AI-driven platforms support remote collaboration, while smart lighting, climate control, and robotic cleaners improve in-office efficiency, Conference solutions, to name a few. of smart room technologies, adds, “This segment has evolved quite significantly over the years. We’ve seen a steady advancement in features that not only enhance convenience but also support sustainability. The industry has been incrementally adopting smarter solutions, and there’s continuous innovation happening almost daily.

One of the main challenges, however, is the cost—smart technology is still relatively expensive. But I believe that as people begin to understand its long-term benefits, especially in the hospitality sector, adoption will become

Khozema

much more widespread. Some hoteliers have already started realizing this, and as the tech becomes more affordable and user-friendly, it will eventually lead to a seamless and more sustainable guest experience.

In our projects, we have already started integrating Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS) and other smart management solutions. We’re also making properties compatible with technologies that are currently under development—like mobile app-based check-ins, backend guest data collection systems, and more. While not all of these technologies are fully mature yet, such as voice-controlled automation, we’re ensuring that the infrastructure is in place. This way, when these systems are ready, the properties can be easily upgraded without major overhauls.”

He further adds, “These innovations have been successfully implemented in several premium properties, for instance, our Hilton projects in Jabalpur and Surat. However, it’s important to note that full-scale integration of smart tech is still a challenge in budget or mid-range properties due to the associated costs. Over time, as the technology becomes more accessible and cost-effective, we expect to see wider adoption across all segments of hospitality.”

Adding his insights on the changing landscape Reza Kabul, Founder, ARK Reza Kabul Architects, says, “Over the years, we’ve witnessed a significant evolution in how smart technology integrates into hospitality design— shifting from basic automation to creating intuitive, connected guest experiences. In our earlier hotel projects, we started with sensorbased lighting and touchpad controls in place of traditional switchboards. These small but impactful changes laid the foundation for smarter guest environments.

As technology advanced, we began incorporating keyless check-in systems, where guests could check in digitally and receive a barcode on their mobile phones that served as their room key, offering not just convenience, but also seamless access across the property. Further, we introduced mobile-operated room controls, enabling guests to manage lights, climate, and electrical points directly from their phones. This eliminated the need to locate individual switches and significantly improved comfort and accessibility. What once required physical effort—like turning off a distant table lamp—can now be done with a simple tap.

These innovations represent how automation has progressed from novelty features to thoughtful necessities, elevating the overall guest operational efficiency in hospitality spaces.”

“We’ve implemented smart technologies across several key hospitality projects, including Taj Skyline in Ahmedabad, Taj Gandhinagar Resort & Spa in Gujarat, and most recently, Four Points by Sheraton in Nashik. In these projects, we integrated features such as keyless entry, mobile-based room and lighting

controls, and automated energy management systems. These technologies offered guests a more personalized and frictionless experience, from accessing their rooms with a phone tap to managing lighting and comfort levels without lifting a finger.

The result has been smarter, more responsive spaces that not only enhance the user experience but also align with sustainable and efficient hotel operations, setting a new benchmark in the industry.”

Natasha Jain, Co-Founder, Natelier by Bent Chair says, “The hospitality design segment has evolved from merely being about visual appeal to crafting immersive, thoughtful experiences that blend sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics. With projects like Breathe, we’ve embraced this evolution by integrating smart technologies alongside organic design principles. The space features natural materials such as grass-lined ceilings, hand-troweled walls, and solid wood furniture that ground the design in nature.

Complementing this earthy palette are smart systems, automated lighting, and subtle ambient tech that adapts to time and usage, seamlessly enhancing comfort. What began with basic energy-efficient practices has now grown into a holistic approach where design and technology co-exist. Today, our projects are intuitive, responsive, and deeply humancentric, offering elevated experiences without

compromising on the warmth and honesty of natural materials. Breathe is a true reflection of this harmony, where nature-inspired design meets quiet innovation.”

She further adds, “We incorporated a centralized Building Management System that controls lighting, temperature, and audio-visual elements—automated to shift with natural daylight patterns and crowd movement. RFID-enabled access ensures seamless entry and billing for guests, while ambient music and lighting adjust based on occupancy and time of day, curated through AI-based scene settings. Moreover, guest preferences—down to seat comfort and lighting tone, can be stored and recalled, offering a uniquely personalized experience on return visits. The goal was to use technology as an invisible hand that uplifts the guest journey without diluting the emotional resonance of the space, and Breathe embodies that vision beautifully.”

CEDIA Drives Industry Standards and Awareness in India’s Smart Home Market

Wendy Griffiths, Senior Vice President, Membership & Global Development, CEDIA shares insights on the transformative role of the Smart Home Expo and CEDIA in shaping India’s smart home industry.

How has CEDIA’s collaboration with the Smart Home Expo evolved since its inception, and what role has it played in shaping the event’s growth over the years?

We are proud to have been part of the Smart Home Expo’s journey from the very beginning. As the expo has grown in prominence and influence over the years, CEDIA has strategically evolved its participation, using it as a key platform to share the latest industry developments and insights with our members and the broader industry. Its international reputation continues to grow, with many global brands now considering it a “mustattend” event and a focal point of industry conversations worldwide.

What role do you think Smart Home Expo plays in driving growth for the smart home industry, particularly in India?

Since its inception in 1989, in the formative years of the industry, CEDIA has identified that networking and peer group collaboration have played an important role in developing

and evolving the industry. If it was not for these kinds of collaborations, CEDIA would not exist and the Smart Home Expo plays a pivotal role in providing this peer group networking as well as a go-to place event the industry can go to understand the latest products and technologies in the India Smart Homes sector. In today’s world of information overload, it’s crucial to have the chance to connect with the latest products and gain a clear understanding of how they fit into projects and enhance clients’ lifestyles. This should be a core element of any integration company’s strategic planning.

What are the biggest challenges you foresee for the smart home industry in India, and how can CEDIA and the Smart Home Expo help address these challenges?

This industry is driven by client referrals and word of mouth or if the clients’ (or designer) expectations for the project are not met, or the technology not working effectively, this word of mouth can be a negative marketing tool,

damaging the industry so I see lack of technical expertise being a challenge. Bringing in new trained staff to the industry is another related factor. In addition, we have globally seen too many great companies in the industry going out of business as the management is more focussed on sales & not on the business so having a strong business foundation is critical as again poor business practices reflect badly on the reputation of the industry. Thankfully CEDIA is addressing all three issues.

In your opinion, how can the collaboration between CEDIA and Smart Home Expo contribute to better consumer education and adoption of smart home technologies in India? Please share your views on the same.

Consumer awareness of lifestyle benefits has been on the rise globally for a number of years, but there is still a long way to go. Platforms like the Smart Home Expo & CEDIA Awards can go a long way to raising this awareness, but initially, the route to this awareness is through architects and designers. While Smart Home Technology has become more affordable and accessible to the mid-market, in India it is still predominantly for the high net worth homeowner and with designers and architects being their trusted advisors, it is imperative that we as an industry raise our profile with these important influencers,

which both CEDIA and Smart Home Expo are doing regularly.

Do you believe the Indian smart home market will see increased interest from mainstream consumers in the coming years, and if so, what factors will drive this growth?

Absolutely, it is already happening. How we have evolved using our houses over the past few years, has been a massive influence on this, as well as trends in the market. We are still predominately an AV & entertainment led industry in India (39% of most projects are AV) , especially in India with the Bollywood sector being a big influence on entertaining spaces and while this is still a large part of the influence, there has been an evolution in consumers seeing a robust network infrastructure in their home, lighting (control) to emphasis and enhance spaces, motorised blinds and shades to protect furniture and valuable artwork. For future years we will see the awareness further influenced by the need for sensors to support aging in place, sustainability and wellness with over 50% of companies surveyed seeing a significant rise in requests for assistive living technology & energy management.

Design Meets Smart Technology

Ar. Shashank Jain, in collaboration with Zemote Home Automation, blends luxury with advanced smart technologies to design a space that’s elegant, functional, and future-ready.

Orange Architects, based in Indore, is a multidisciplinary, internationally operating design firm founded by Ar. Shashank Jain. The firm specialises in architecture, urban design, landscape and interiors, designing spaces that seamlessly blend design, art and technology.

Ar. Shashank Jain got a brief from the client to design a home that is spread over a built-up area of 6,000 sq.ft that embodies sophistication while remaining easy to maintain; the client’s vision was clear: `to craft spaces that feel both familiar and distinct.’ The talented architect skillfully worked towards creating an environment where every corner reflects a sense of warmth and comfort without compromising on style or functionality. The design transcended mere aesthetics, aiming to foster a connection with the inhabitants while offering a refined, curated living experience by incorporating smart technology.

“The design approach is centered around the concept of `Quiet Luxury’ — an elegance that doesn’t shout for attention but instead whispers through thoughtful details and harmonious proportions. It’s about the understated beauty found in clean lines, natural materials, and carefully chosen textures that evoke a sense of calm and sophistication. The home was envisioned as a sanctuary where simplicity meets refinement, where every element serves a purpose, and where the elegance lies in its subtlety rather than in overt opulence. This balance of familiarity and distinction creates a timeless appeal, making the space both inviting and inspiring.” says, Ar. Shashank Jain, Founder and Principal Architect, Orange Architects.

One of the admirable features is the elevation that blends effortlessly with its surroundings— simple, understated, and not attentionseeking. The team designed a façade with a subtle unique design. The bold 12-foot cantilever at the front creates a striking yet balanced visual appeal. The material palette remains minimal, emphasizing clean lines and proportion.

On the interiors, the living cum dining space exudes calm and freshness. Natural light floods the room, complemented by warm

wooden tones and minimalistic styling. The seamless connection to the courtyard brings in fresh air and greenery, creating an inviting indoor-outdoor flow. This space is designed to encourage relaxation and meaningful gatherings.

The bedroom embodies clean lines, calmness, and cosiness. The soothing palette of whites and warm wood accents creates a tranquil retreat, reflecting a perfect blend of serenity and style.

Integrated Smart Home Technologies

This project seamlessly integrates a range of advanced smart home technologies. The security system is designed to provide comprehensive protection and peace of mind. It includes 24/7 surveillance with motion sensors that continuously monitor for unusual activity and send instant alerts when necessary. While sensor-based lighting optimises energy use by adjusting illumination based on room occupancy, reducing waste and lowering utility costs.

Voice-controlled automation allows homeowners to manage security features effortlessly, offering both convenience and control. Impact sensors are strategically placed to detect forced entry attempts, enhancing the overall safety of the home. These advanced security features are powered by trusted brands, ensuring reliability and robust protection whether the home is occupied or unoccupied.

Additionally, an automated water tank management system ensures seamless functionality without the need for manual

intervention, providing peace of mind and operational efficiency.

In addition to physical security, data security and privacy are top priorities. The integrated smart home systems utilize encrypted networks and secure protocols to safeguard user data against unauthorized access. Regular software updates and stringent access controls further enhance security, ensuring that the smart home environment remains protected from potential threats. This comprehensive approach to security not only protects the home but also the personal information of its residents.

Together, these technologies create an environment that’s not just smart but intuitively responsive, adapting to the dynamic needs of modern living while offering comfort, security, and sustainability.

Customization for Homeowners’ Preferences

“The smart home solutions were customised to align with the homeowners’ lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. The integration was designed to be both functional and discreet, 166 | SMART HOME WORLD | APRIL 2025

ensuring that technology enhances the living space without overwhelming its design. This approach allowed for a harmonious blend of form and function, reflecting the client’s desire for understated elegance.” Shashank Jain.

Integration of Different Technologies

While this project didn’t involve extensive network integration or home theatre systems, the focus was on creating a seamless user experience through centralised control panels and smart devices. A Smart Sanctuary Tailored for The New-Age Lifestyle

Designed by Zaha Spaces in collaboration with Smart Node, this apartment in Mumbai is a seamless blend of latest home automation and cultural elegance. The home offers a refined vision of future-ready urban living.

Nestled in the heart of Mulund West in Mumbai, this 4BHK apartment spanning 2,200 sq. ft. is a striking blend of minimalism, vertical space design, and Indian sensibilities. Conceptualized and designed by Interior Designer Alpesh Haria, Principal Designer, Zaha Spaces, this home showcases how modern-day luxury can coexist beautifully with functionality and tradition. The design ethos focused on simplicity and clean lines, with a vertical spatial narrative that subtly echoes Indian roots. The result is a home that feels grounded yet aspirational—personal yet tech-savvy.

The clients, a power couple with hectic schedules, had a clear vision. The husband

holds a senior position at one of India’s leading corporations, while the wife runs her own successful firm. With both frequently away due to professional commitments, their primary need was a residence that could be accessed and operated remotely—secure, intelligent, and intuitive. From the outset, the brief emphasized the importance of smart home automation that could function seamlessly with just a touch or a voice command, offering them full control over their space no matter where they were.

Responding to this requirement, every element of the home was integrated with advanced automation systems using a WiFi-based wireless protocol. The entire space

is equipped with smart lighting, motorised curtains, HVAC systems, comprehensive security setups, and advanced audio-visual technology. Even the main door is fully automated with integrated access control, allowing the homeowners to unlock it remotely or via biometric authentication. Every room has personalised smart scene settings—where one touch triggers a sequence of events such as drawing the curtains, changing the lighting temperature, or setting the room temperature—tailored precisely to the lifestyle of the inhabitants.

“Security was a top priority for this techpowered home. The house features surveillance cameras by Hikvision, which are installed in all common areas, allowing the homeowners to monitor their space remotely. For access control, the home uses Yale biometric digital locks on all internal doors, while the main entrance boasts an integrated lock system by Pirnar. This level of control ensures restricted access to private areas even in the absence of the owners, adding a strong layer of safety and peace of mind. Furthermore, the existing fire alarm and sprinkler system embedded

in the structure were complemented by the automation, preparing the house for unforeseen emergencies.” explains Alpesh.

To safeguard data and privacy—often overlooked in smart home discussions—the integration included a firewall and strong WPA2/WPA3 encryption protocols. The networking hardware used throughout the house was carefully chosen to be compatible with these security standards. The core idea was to ensure that not just the physical space, but the digital architecture of the home remained resilient and secure.

The technological backbone of this project included a well-planned home network system using TP-Link Wi-Fi routers positioned at three strategic locations within the home. This ensured robust internet connectivity for uninterrupted automation and streaming services. Once the automation and AV requirements were locked in, wiring and spatial planning followed, including accommodations for two woofers, nine

speakers, mono amplifiers, and a shortthrow projector—all of which were concealed neatly without disrupting the clean interior aesthetics.

A major highlight of the home is the integrated home theatre, which forms part of the open-plan living room. Designed to deliver a cinematic experience without occupying a separate room, it features a short-throw projector from AWOL, paired with a 120-inch screen, Denon amplifiers, Wharfedale front and center speakers, and Proficient ceilingmounted speakers. To manage acoustics, the room was treated with acoustic wallpaper and sound-dampening panels that minimized sound reflection, ensuring a crisp, immersive experience. All the equipment was smartly tucked away inside custom cabinetry that allowed sound to travel efficiently while maintaining the sleek decor.

The lighting design across the home was another focal point of the smart integration. Using fixtures from KMS Lights, the setup included tuneable and dimmable spotlights, concealed magnetic tracks, profile lights,

and curtain washers. Lighting scenes were carefully programmed to align with different moods—cooler white light for reading, warm dim lighting for relaxation—all accessible via the mobile app or wall-mounted scene panels. Every room featured its own custom lighting scenes that enhanced the purpose and ambiance of the space.

Control interfaces were made intentionally user-friendly. With Smart Node as the automation partner, homeowners could manage every function—from lighting and

audio to climate and security—through intuitive wall-mounted control panels and a mobile app interface. Each family member was given access to the app, ensuring comfort and command over their environment at all times. Whether adjusting the temperature in the master bedroom or viewing security footage from another city, everything could be done remotely with ease.

Perhaps one of the most future-ready aspects of the project is its scalability. The system was designed to allow upgrades and the integration of newer technologies without overhauling the infrastructure. Whether it’s adding more speakers, newer lighting modules, or more advanced AIbased appliances in the future, the home is ready to evolve alongside its residents.

This smart residence is more than a hightech marvel—it’s a lifestyle statement. It embodies the perfect synergy between architecture, intelligent automation, and a deep understanding of its occupants’ needs.
