Men’s coach and club president Roger O’Brien has paid tribute to Collegians, Texas and Stanthorpe clubs for putting on a gala day of rugby league at Sullivan
Oval.
“We had 14 games on what was a very successful day, Collegians and Stanthorpe have teams in every junior grade which not many clubs have,” he said.
In the men’s game, Jake Burnell landed two goals to give the Stanthorpe Gremlins 12 points.
O’Brien said prop Brendan Perkins also had a good game while winger Hamish Hamilton, 20, is showing plenty of promise in his first season of rugby league.
“He hasn’t scored a try yet but will,” O’Brien said.
Stanthorpe led 6-0 early, then 12-4 before Texas scored a try with two minutes to go.
In ladies league tag, Texas won 20-16 with Brooklyn Favero the players’ player for Stanthorpe.
O’Brien said numbers were good for both the men and ladies’ teams.
There is a bye in senior footy this weekend so players can head to Suncorp Stadium to watch some of the Magic Round footy.
