When Farmer David (McMahon) took one of his ladies from the farm, Lorelei, to Girraween National Park on a recent show for Farmer Wants a Wife, the footage of our Granite Belt outlook was spectacular, no doubt worth thousands in advertising revenue.

Over the long weekend inclusive of May 1, there were carloads of visitors seen with picnics to enjoy and backpacks to steady the way while taking on one of the treks. Here's what some of them relayed while sitting in company or securing their walking boots:

"Girraween, what a natural wonder," Jono from

Toowoomba said.

"I wish we had the time to do the Sphinx (walk) but we're going to run out of time to be able to get back home. We'll definitely plan an earlier start here," Cindy from Brisbane said.

"What a great spot. Can't believe we haven't been here before," Anna from Tenterfield said.

"Girraween is a great spot for families and hikers or bushwalkers of all ages. Today was nice weather and it wasn't too cold. It was really fun," Stephanie from Esk said, and her husband, Adrian added, "Girraween's exhilarating."

With the early morning fog on May 1, the walkers and visitors, not to mention locals, might have had a sleep in. The chill reportedly went to three degrees overnight for the change of month. Granite Belt winter, here we come.
