A very Happy Mother’s Day to you all! The last few Sunday mornings have felt amazing at Saint Michael, Re , and today will be another great day v. D a ir a t r. C hristopher D. G as we remember and celebrate all the mothers in our lives. With the church back to half-full, congregational singing, and with the distribution of Communion bread directly to worshipers, it’s like our own little resurrection! I’m so energized to be taking good steps toward reopening our campus on Sundays and throughout the week. I hope you will join us in person for worship, and of course, we will continue to stream our worship services live each Sunday for anyone who can’t be in the pews.

Looking ahead to the summer, I’m very excited to announce that we will begin in-person Sunday Formation classes and will bring back the in-person Joy Service with the Joy Band in June! Beginning June 6 and continuing through the summer, the Joy Service will return to the Saint Michael Chapel at 9 a.m., followedby children, youth, and adult classes at 10 a.m.

Being back together physically will be a great gift, so stay tuned for more information over the next few weeks.

This summer, we want your children and their friends to joins us for Vacation Bible School! VBS is always great fun and will be in-person this summer, and registration is now open! In addition to providing a great experience for our students, we need teens (service hours!) and adults to help volunteer for the fun. Please email Regan Wallace for more information.

Mark your calendars to join us for our Pentecost celebrations on Sunday, May 23! Often referred to as “the birthday of the Church,” we will celebrate Pentecost in the morning with big music and festive liturgies at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. Boëly lived through the Napoleonic period in France, a time when music in churches was often simply opera or patriotic music transplanted without any regard for liturgical propriety. Boëly, a traditionalist, was written off by many in the French musical mainstream. Because he resisted the trends of his time, he was able to purvey traditional musical forms and techniques to his students César Franck and Camille Saint-Saëns, who were among the most important composers of the nineteenth century. Today’s postlude was originally intended as an offertory for Easter day, and ends with a set of variations and a fughetta on the Easter hymn “O filii et filiae” (“O sons and daughters”).

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: •

INCREASED CAPACITY Occupancy for all rooms on the SMAA campus has increased to 50%, even if that results in less than 6 feet distance between individuals. Our Operations department is determining what this means for each room and will post these numbers. In the main sanctuary, up to 200 people may attend worship, in addition to worship leaders and volunteers. This works out to five people per pew, but households with more than five people may sit together in one pew. While a simple registration process will still be required for Sunday morning services, seats will no longer be assigned. The new, easier-to-use registration system is live at saintmichael.org/inpersonworship. We continue to livestream our major Sunday morning services for the foreseeable future.

MASKS are still required indoors, except for small groups where everyone is fully vaccinated (defined as two weeks after the final dose). We are not defining small groups, because that is at the discretion of the group leader. If anyone in the room is unvaccinated, or vaccination status is unclear, everyone should keep their masks on. Outdoors, masks are only required when going to and from your seat or standing close to others. Once you are at your seat outdoors, you may remove your mask.

CONGREGATIONAL SINGING is permitted indoors, as long as masks are worn (with certain exceptions for worship leaders). Outdoors, unmasked singing is fine while you are at your seat.

COMING FORWARD TO RECEIVE COMMUNION Worshippers may receive Communion from fully vaccinated priests up front. While envelopes with wafers are still available at the entrance for those wishing to receive Communion at their seats, everyone else is invited to come forward to receive the bread (no common cup yet). Just wear your mask until you reach the priest, remove your mask to take Communion, and put your mask back on before returning to your seat. Our last Distribution of Communion in Saint Michael Chapel will be on Sunday, May 16.

OTHER WORSHIP INFORMATION We are still avoiding physical contact at the peace, passing the offering plate (offertory baskets will be available outside), and presenting the gifts from the back of the church. Worshippers are encouraged to move outdoors immediately after the service and not congregate inside.

ENTRANCES & EXITS The main campus entrance for Sunday worship is the school entrance on the west side of the building (the north entrance is closed due to imminent construction). Those who can’t walk that far due to physical disability may enter through the south entrance. Greeters are available at both entrances. Clergy, staff, and worship volunteers should enter through the south entrance.

FEWER FORMS Answering and signing a COVID-19 questionnaire will no longer be necessary for individuals entering the campus. During the week, visitors without a nametag should stop at the reception desk to get a temporary nametag.

NAMETAGS Wear your nametags! This is an act of hospitality and will help us reconnect. It’s also important for church and school safety.

SAFETY is paramount: wear your masks (except as indicated above), don’t come in if you are sick, maintain physical distance to the degree possible, and wash your hands.

Sunday services are offered in-person, streamed, and on-demand, at 9 AM CT, 11 AM CT, and 8 PM CT (online only).
