SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY In addition to the summer enrichment camps and activities listed in this catalog, St. Louis Park Public Schools offers academic summer school to students in grades K-5. An SLP teacher/principal signed Continuous Learning Form is required before a student will be enrolled in our academic remediation program. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher about this form. Coach Sobalvarro brings with him an immense knowledge of youth, national and international fencing. We keep it fun, too. Your favorite instructors return with more knowledge, refined coaching skills and, of course, your favorite fencing games and armbands. Safety is our first priority. Code Championship Bootcamp Code is sport. Just like gymnastics, dance or basketball, competitive coding pushes us to be great. Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Students will be broken into sections based on age for competitive and fair play. No previous coding experience necessary. Whether this is your first time at a code championship event, or if you’re preparing for the Minnesota Code Championship, this weeklong boot camp is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of code championship. Destination Mars: Rocketry

Dr. Suess World

Launch and watch your very own rocket speed 300 feet into the air. Then it is yours to take home. Students will make and take home multiple rockets of varying difficulty throughout this session. We will use these rockets and airplanes to investigate basic aeronautical concepts including propulsion, thrust, lift, drag and more. We will also hypothesize about travel in outer space, how to get a United States astronaut to Mars and life on Mars. NOTE: Parents will be asked to contribute two, 2-liter soda bottles (empty) for 2 different experiments. Instructor: Youth Enrichment League

This co-ed program is designed for the beginner to intermediate player and will incorporate essential life-lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. This camp is full of all things unicorn, princess, and dancing! Join us for ballet, tap, and jazz styles of dance in this fun themed camp! We’ve got Brite Bomber, Durr Burger, and P.A.N.D.A Team Leader...and we’ll even make a Liteshow that really glows in the dark! There will be no need for “heals” of any kind at this camp. Stay active and get silly this summer. Day One: Goofy Golf - students play “golf” using tennis racquets and balls, a soccer ball, a hula hoop, etc. Day Two: Goofy Trick Shots - students try trick shots using Frisbees, trick footballs, and more. This is not the commonly found dance, acrobatic or sport type of martial art activity. The course emphasizes responsible citizenship, communication skills, and drug avoidance. Driver’s Education with Safeway Driving School

Safeway Driving School has been graduating teen drivers for 50 years. Safeway’s focus is creating safe, responsible teen drivers. Classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons emphasize defensive driving techniques tailored for the inexperienced teen driver while targeting to influence the invincible teen attitude. All instructors are licensed by the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Class Instruction prepares the student for the MN permit test. Classroom includes 10 lessons. If a student misses a lesson, they can make it up at the next session or at another location. Upon completion, students who are 15 years old are eligible to take their permit test at any MN exam center. (Test not provided during class.)
