EVEN MORE SATISFACTION IN BED NEW 2000T

Imagine, if you will, the sensation of lying in a Hästens for the first time – the relief, the silence, the spaciousness in your spine you didn’t know existed. It’s not easy to outdo that feeling. Yet, generation after generation since 1852, we’ve devoted ourselves to exceeding your expectations. We wondered: Could that sensation last even longer? How much more quickly and deeply could you fall asleep? How much better could you feel today, tomorrow, and for years to come?

The answers lie in the new 2000T. Three big upgrades bring even more of that lasting sensation to your bedtime, with optimized spring movement, more consistency in firmness levels, and even more of our traditional craftsmanship.

Optimized spring movement

Each pocket spring now moves even more flexibly while continuing to provide steady support for your spine. Your back releases residual tension, and your chest and facial muscles soften. As you unwind, you slip even more swiftly into undisturbed sleep, the kind where your body

and mind can truly regenerate, before waking up with a natural surge of energy.

More consistency in firmness levels

When you visit a Hästens Sleep Spa®, you’ll find beds in different sizes and firmness levels.

You find the bed with the firmness you love, then may realize you’d prefer a different size for your bedroom. Rest assured, what you feel in-store is exactly what you will experience at home. That’s our promise to you: the same quality and dependable comfort you remember.

More traditional craftsmanship

As master craftsmen at heart, your bed is now handcrafted with more durable, sustainable flax around the spring system, creating a more luxurious surface from within. Not only does the flax extend the lifespan of your Hästens, it feels better, looks better, and also naturally absorbs sound for an even quieter sleep environment.

Perfect sleep just got even more extraordinary

The new 2000T is the result of perfecting perfection itself. With optimized spring

movement, consistency in firmness levels and more traditional craftsmanship, the initial pleasure of lying down gives way to truly restorative sleep. You notice how incredible you feel the next day, the next – and the next.

Your Hästens is there for you night after night, transforming your sleep into something even more powerful: the energy, clarity, and vitality that brighten your waking hours.

You are invited to experience the new 2000T in your nearest Hästens Sleep Spa®.

Helmed by principal designer Shaentelle, the practice is celebrated for distilling the unspoken into spaces that exude refinement, intimacy, and resonance. For the global connoisseur of luxury—those who collect experiences as they do fine objects—Space Styling offers not just design, but sanctuaries of meaning.

As the comprehensive House of Style, Space Styling curates every aspect of a space with meticulous precision. From design concept to sourcing, from rarefied finds to curated selections of art and artifacts, through to final installation, every stage is orchestrated with discretion and clarity. This full-circle approach ensures that clients experience not just styled rooms, but enduring environments that reflect their essence and way of life.

In this particular project, the space unveils a fusion of Japanese minimalism and bohemian warmth, defined by a palette of beige and black—minimal yet monumental. The project is but one expression of a larger philosophy. For Space Styling, authenticity and global elegance are the constants; the design language adapts, but the ethos remains the same. Simplicity becomes luxury, detail becomes distinction.

Space Styling is not merely a design practice. It is a Comprehensive House of Style: a destination for those who believe true luxury is found not in excess, but in discernment. To collaborate with them is to have one’s story translated into a space, curated to endure as part of one’s own legacy.

with the monsoon clouds now receding and a gentle vibrancy beginning to ripple through the air, I feel a familiar sense of joyous anticipation. This time of year, for me, is a beautiful symphony of preparation and connection, a quiet hum that precedes the grand celebrations of our festive season. Soon, homes across India will glow with the soft light of Diwali lamps, resonate with laughter, and fill with the aromas of traditional delights. It’s a period that deeply reminds us of the bonds we share, the traditions we uphold, and the quiet moments of reflection we find amidst the bustle.

In this upcoming issue of Four India, we’ve gathered stories that capture this very essence – how we make our spaces more meaningful, how we adorn ourselves, how we seek wellness, and how we celebrate.

As we prepare our homes to welcome guests and mark these auspicious occasions, the focus naturally turns to our living spaces. We’ve been inspired by how conscious design, like that championed by Studio Lotus, creates environments that are not just beautiful but deeply personal. And speaking of meaningful design, we delve into the philosophies of N Mahesh, an internationally celebrated architect whose pioneering ‘hybrid concept’ masterfully fuses contemporary minimalism with India’s rich traditional and heritage architectural elements.

Imagine the warmth of a home where every detail tells a story, much like the exquisite artistry from World of Stones, showcasing how India’s rich stone heritage can be woven into modern designs to bring timeless elegance to your festive interiors. For those elaborate festive feasts, Verantes Living offers a glimpse into how innovative kitchens blend aesthetic refinement with enduring functionality, making culinary creation a joy. And after all the joyous celebration, a truly rejuvenating sleep is paramount. HÄSTENS reminds us how their bespoke beds elevate rest into a luxurious experience.

No Indian festival is complete without a touch of sparkle. Anmol Jewellers introduces a contemporary collection designed for the dynamic Indian woman, and from Raj Diamonds, we see the unveiling of their collection featuring traditional 16th-century rose-cut diamonds, inspired by the gentle light of a “dew-kissed garden at dawn.”

Amidst the celebratory rush, the need for self-care and rejuvenation is more important than ever. We delve into how practices rooted in ancient Indian healing traditions can offer deep restoration, with retreats designed to bring back balance and harmony, such as those offered by Niraamaya. We also explore centres like Athreya Ayurvedic Centre in Kerala, which continues a legacy of holistic healing, empowering through wellness and leadership.

For families looking for shared adventures or efficient ways to come together, we also look at options like Aahana Resort, a luxurious forest retreat perfect for multi-generational travel. And for seamless journeys, whether connecting with loved ones or pursuing opportunities, Hunch Mobility (BLADE India) is redefining short-haul travel..

This festive season also embraces the grandeur of community and tradition. We glimpse into how cities like Pune transform with vibrant rangolis and fairy lights for breathtaking weddings, and how Kolkata crafts a soulful festive saga with its Pujo pandals and historic streets. It’s a rich tapestry of celebrations that defines India.

As the festive lights begin to twinkle, let us embrace the warmth, the beauty, and the profound connections that this special time brings. May this issue offer you inspiration to create your own cherished memories and find joy in every moment.

Wishing you a truly luminous and joyous festive season!

Aakarshan Gems & Jewellery isn’t just another name in luxury couture Jewellery; it’s a spectacular narrative of Indian heritage refined for the modern world.

Founded in 2012 by Shweta Pathak, a visionary who traded a flourishing tech career for the world of gemstones, the brand quickly became a standout in the national Jewellery scene. With consecutive nomination from most reputed Award houses like Retail Jeweller India Awards to IJ awards, Aakarshan Won Precious Coloured Gemstone Ring segment at Retail Jeweller India Awards 2019 as well as 2022. In 2021 Aakarshan was listed by Femina among the fabulous Jewellers of India, also won in the category of Indian Affairs Most Inspiring Face of Innovations in Jewellery Design 2024 at the 13th Annual India Leadership Conclave & Indian Affairs Power Brand Awards 2024.

Its growing international presence was cemented at the House of lords London where Aakarshan was being felicitated by Lord Meghan and Lord Paul as Inspiration brand of India, Aakarshan also has been a silver partner for international wedding conference Dubai and to participating in India’s first luxury festival by Quintessentially London, While paving the path at Silver Jubilee Edition of Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW), where Aakarshan’s pieces weren’t simply accessories but the very heart of the show.

made a powerful statement. Models showcased a stunning harmony of natural gemstones, precious metals, and the brand’s distinctive fancy color diamonds. Each piece was a testament to the brand’s core philosophy: that centuries old craftsmanship can be a vibrant partner to bold, modern design. This philosophy reached its peak in a landmark collaboration with Design Wolf Studio and Birla Cellulose.

Shweta’s belief is that tradition and innovation do not have to compete; they can thrive together.

A stORy in Ev ERy stO n E

Shweta Pathak’s journey began far from the jeweler’s bench. With an engineering degree, a double MBA, and a successful career in IT, she made a bold pivot after formal training at GIA India. While her passion for gemstones was inherited from her father, her vision was entirely her own: to build a unique luxury brand that stood apart from the typical trading retailers.

Her designs are deeply rooted in storytelling, drawing inspiration from motifs like gardens, birds, tulips, and Jataka tales. She has masterfully revived the Bhopal jadau tradition, giving it a contemporary twist with new forms and gemstone palettes. For Shweta, the soul of a piece lies in its

handmade quality. Her guiding principle is simple: “Capture your dreams into your design, be unique and free-spirited, and be honest with your quality.”

Aakarshan’s success rests on its six core values: Purity, Pride, Panache, Personalization, Patriotism, and Pull. Every piece is crafted from natural diamonds, genuine gemstones, and precious metals, with authenticity verified by both official certification and customer trust. The designs are bespoke, crafted to reflect the wearer’s individuality while celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage. To Shweta, Jewellery is more than an adornment; it’s a wearable art form, a future heirloom, and a talisman : a belief that has earned the brand widespread acclaim in just over a decade.

s h AP ing th E F U t URE OF i ndi A n LU x URy Shweta has always had a keen sense for market trends. She anticipated the post-demonetization shift in India, where Jewellery evolved from a simple savings vehicle into a definitive style and status statement. Her embrace of natural fancy Coloured diamonds challenged the myths that they were either too cheap or too expensive, proving that their rarity and vivid colors create undeniable value.

The very word itself, “Aakarshan,” the divine power of attraction embodies the irresistible allure and beauty that jewelry and gemstones possess. The aura surrounding these precious adornments is nothing short of captivating. At Aakarshan jewelry speaks its own language of art, narrating tales of beauty provided by mother nature Aakarshan’s style

The Jewellery since ancient times has been orchestrated around these gemstones be it for our God’s and Goddess’s or the royalty. It’s the commercial angle which diverted ornaments to investments where these natural beauties had to bid goodbye from commercial mass markets, thus at Aakarshan each piece is truly unique, limited edition one of a kind design with its authenticity and creation and design aesthetics.

Moving forward, Aakarshan’s collections will continue to explore vibrant natural gemstone , introducing the concept of true rarity and also the natural fancy color diamonds combinations, intricate enamel work, and revived traditional techniques. The goal is not just to follow trends but to set them, establishing a global perception of Indian Jewellery that is both culturally rich and fashion forward.

Under Shweta Pathak’s leadership, Aakarshan isn’t just a label it’s a movement that marries the opulence of Nawabi-era artistry with the dynamism of modern design. Aakarshan’s allure stands not just in its sparkle, but in its soul. And the world is just beginning to see its full brilliance

Crafting Contemporary Heirlooms

Rooted in Chennai’s heritage yet crafted for contemporary living, Madras Makers blends reclaimed wood, meticulous details, and timeless design into pieces that feel like stories passed down through generations.

In 2013, the duo, architect Prem Balasubramanian and designer Carola Winnie, set out to challenge India’s culture of disposable décor with a studio rooted in patience, precision, and permanence. Together with Prem’s brother Prashant, they built Madras Makers, a name that pays homage to Chennai’s layered history while looking firmly to the future. Known for their “fatfree, without frills” philosophy, they create furniture and interiors that are as soulful as they are functional, blending reclaimed timber, meticulous craftsmanship, and a quiet reverence for proportion and tactility.

Prem: We have similar tastes and opinions regarding spatial tensions and subliminal emotions contained in an architectural space. This helps us draw parallels in how we negotiate and punctuate the space with our furniture. This constant ebb and flow of ideas helps us push each other in terms of our design vocabulary.

Carola: We are a team of three actually, including Prem’s brother, Prashant, who manages the operations and is the engineering mind behind all our work. Between Prem and me, he is the talkative one with grand visions, while I am the quieter and more intuitive counterpart. It is truly Prashant, who at the end of the day makes the work happen amidst both our idiosyncrasies and daydreaming!

Carola: Today, “luxury” has become a cliché that is attached to everything that partly or temporarily fulfils the whims of an event. from the very first piece that we have been making at Madras Makers, the quotient of luxury is embedded without having to be stated, because of the reverence to materials, thoughtfulness of the craft and a sensitive approach to the tactile experience of each piece, along with an innate sense of proportion. If there are tenets that I would borrow from the history and culture of the city of Madras, it would be these facets that you see so poignantly in our Indo-Saracenic public buildings, Art Deco homes, and temple architecture that narrate their stories and remain steadfast until this day.

FOUR: In a maRket FlOOded wIth masspROdUced FURnItURe, what keeps yOU

Prem: We believe wood as a material is not for one man’s consumption. Naturally, what we make must indulge the minds of at least a couple of generations. So, we strive for this by making incremental improvements to every aspect of our organisation.

Carola: Madras Makers began as a quest to make quality furniture for us. Over the last ten years, Prem and I have slowly populated our home with beautiful pieces, almost like a chronicle of the life we built over a decade. Our furniture and projects are shared stories with each of our clients who have felt the same sense of beauty and evocative charm. Carola: Our pieces are crafted, not manufactured. We have tried not to box them into a particular style, but our expression is primarily guided by the tooling and skillfulness of the craftsman while keeping a keen eye on proportion, ergonomics and most certainly the sensory experience. for each piece to look and feel its best, we develop prototypes and refine them until they are wellrounded in all those parameters.

FOUR: beyOnd the Use OF ReclaImed wOOd, what OtheR aspects OF yOUR wORk ReFlect a cOmmItment tO sOcIal and ecOlOgIcal RespOnsIbIlIty?

Carola: I believe there is a slow shift towards conscious buying where the Indian population is becoming more

nuanced with their purchase choices in fashion, which is slowly extending into their home, and many heads are turning towards homegrown brands. At Madras Makers, we believe that good design should holistically permeate every home, so it makes a cultural shift from the inside out. If we can appreciate timeless design, craft and the importance of heirlooms, it will gradually have an impact and a transformative effect on the architecture of not just homes but the entire urban scape.

Carola: I would like to talk about two pieces- The Mi Chair and the Tula Tambour console.

The Mi Chair is the first piece where we used bent lamination as an integral part of the chair’s expression. The design is simple, yet it encapsulates elegance and craftsmanship in every component. The hand-tufted leather upholstery, the several layers of hand-cut veneers that are pasted and laminated to give each chair its signature grains, and the long sweeping legs on which the seat and back effortlessly perch. When all of these come together, they create a design that is like a slick protagonist taking

centre stage.

The Tula Tambour Console: This is our first piece in Mahogany. We expressed the face grains on the tambour with a keen selection and arrangement of each plank, and made the Tambour unit in the shape of a capsule. The Mahogany is imbued with almost a fluid quality while it moves through the curved guides of the tambour door. The opening and closing of the tambour every time is a sensory delight. Mahogany gains a unique patina over time as it gradually turns from a fresh rose gold hue to a deep burgundy.

FOUR: lOOkIng ahead, hOw dO yOU plan tO expand the bRand whIle maIntaInIng yOUR cORe pRIncIples OF FIne cRaFtsmanshIp and bespOke qUalIty?

Carola: We are introducing furniture genres that embody unique purposes that are often overlooked in a household. We intend to make products that come in smaller packaging, which would make logistics easier and be a great starter before committing to larger pieces. We are soon launching an online shop on our website to make the ordering experience easy and seamless. Through all

this, our work ethos and craft would remain untainted. FOUR: FOR a lUxURy magazIne aUdIence, what advIce wOUld yOU gIve On selectIng a pIece OF FURnItURe that Is nOt jUst a pURchase, bUt a tImeless heIRlOOm?

Carola: The Indian market is flooded with several varieties of timber, most of them being misnomers with the only intention to lure more buyers. good materials must be treated with reverence, which is reflected in evocative design, meticulous craftsmanship, and a timeless expression for it to be willingly preserved for posterity. My advice to the buyer would be to populate their home, or any space for that matter, with care and a certain slowness. Build your repertoire of furniture, just as you would a wardrobe, because it ultimately defines who you are.

With a heritage built on impeccable craftsmanship and a forward-thinking approach to style, the Italian brand Poltrona Frau has always been at the forefront of creating furniture that is both timeless and of its moment.

poltrona frau’s latest collection, unveiling three exceptional new launches, blurs the lines between high fashion, modern comfort, and classic elegance. These are not just pieces of furniture; they are statements that speak to a new generation of discerning tastemakers.

The iconic Archibald armchair, designed by JeanMarie Massaud, receives a spirited makeover with the new Denim edition. This piece is a confident nod to urban sophistication, upholstered in a certified organic cotton jacquard fabric named everdenim. Its distinctive twill texture and slubbed warp mimic the soft, lived-in feel of a favourite pair of stone-washed jeans. The chair’s refined Navy Blue hue is punctuated by bold double yellow topstitching and a new antique bronze finish on the base, drawing a direct parallel to the metallic hardware on classic denim. The back is finished with a hot-stamped Camel-colored leather label, an intimate detail bearing the phrase, “Archibald Denim edition. Unique, like you.” for the private sanctuary, the new volare Due bed, an evolution of roberto l azzeroni’s original design, reinterprets the classic four-poster with a quiet architectural grace. Its minimalist form creates a sense

of lightness, a “suspended interplay” of exquisite materials. The headboard’s internal crossbars are made of birch plywood, and its infill is hardboard panels. The bed frame and footboard are constructed from tulipwood, ensuring durability and stability. The headboard, made of solid ash with a subtle triangular profile, serves as the anchor, from which two inviting, plump cushions hang, offering a blend of beauty and repose. Crafted from a refined mix of solid wood, Pelle frau® leather, and Saddle extra leather, the volare Due embodies Poltrona frau’s century-old expertise, celebrating the art of repose.

The design duos Draga & Aurel channel a sense of casual luxury with the Parka modular sofa and ottoman. This collection is homage to the classic ‘90s streetwear jacket, celebrated for its bold versatility. Much like its namesake, the Parka sofa is a “passe-partout” piece, with generous, soft volumes that extend all the way to the floor, promising enveloping comfort. It’s unique, with a gradually curved backrest that flows seamlessly into the armrests, creating a bold yet welcoming shape. Available in full Pelle frau® leather or a rich combination of leather and fabric with tone-on-tone stitching, the Parka collection is the perfect expression of an effortless, personal style.

ConCrete, reimagined!

Beyond traditional walls, Hey Concrete is creating something innovative. This Udaipur born company breaks the conventional perception regarding concrete and brings it to life as a storytelling canvas. The company’s vision is to transform everyday walls into powerful design statements.

Founder Aseem Bolia states that concrete has existed for hundreds of years, but it never appeared or felt like how his company designs it. he says that hey Concrete exists in a perpetual mode of discovery with the material, and it is a canvas for imagination.

Conceived in the cultural heart of rajasthan, hey Concrete finishes are imbued deeply with India’s rich history of architecture. each panel’s texture is packed with motifs from heritage sandstone pathways of heritage forts, rhythmic patterns of jaali screens, and sacred geometries of temple architecture. every product is an interaction of uncut natural form and refined design thought. hey Concrete isn’t just another choice against other materials like CNC stone, premium wall tiles, or metal cladding; it’s a new page that gets written step by step, offering the world’s best of both worlds through its tidy, precise lines

and raw, organic, hand-finished textures.

While the soul of the brand is artisanal, its process is deeply technical. hey Concrete utilises Ultra h igh Performance Concrete (UhPC), a revolutionary substance which is renowned for its increased strength, durability, and design flexibility. This allows them to create ultra-thin, lightweight panels that withstand demanding environments without compromising exquisite detail and precision. Its patented h-UhPC compound ensures every hand-finished wall panel is as resilient as it is resplendent.

every piece—a wall panel, breeze block, or custom form—is a combination of modern style and unyielding performance. The cladding is fireproof, water-resistant, termite-proof, and eco-friendly, giving it an edge over conventional materials. The design freedom is best, with complex textures, bold patterns, and custom sizes.

Other than engineering and art, sustainability is the

ABOve Dune - Where Nature Carves It’s Poetry In Concrete

key value, not a buzzword. At hey Concrete, processes minimise water usage, carbon footprint, and extend product life. hey Concrete offers greenPro-certified products that enable sustainable architecture. Through energy-efficient manufacturing, they are creating a greener tomorrow, panel by panel. The result is an infinitely versatile, eco-friendly, and decidedly Indian product.

Since 2019, hey Concrete has been redefining concrete, transforming it from a simple building material to a design and innovation platform.

It started with one workshop in a tier-3 city and developed into a brand which has executed over 3,000+ architectural projects in India. from houses and hotels to corporate landmarks and cultural centres, the company has executed a wide range of projects.

The company currently has 35+ displays nationwide and plans to triple that within the next three years. The experience centres enable residents, architects, and designers to touch the material physically.

hey Concrete is now exporting worldwide, bringing their revolutionary cladding solutions to europe, the USA, and the Middle east. In 2025, the company opened at Index Dubai, where they welcomed over 1,000 visitors from the Middle east, Africa, and europe. The response was staggering, proving that Indian material innovation, if merged with design consciousness, is globally desirable. Architects, developers, and interior designers were drawn to the “tactile intelligence” of the surfaces. from boutique hotels in Udaipur to sky-defining buildings in Dubai, their surfaces are becoming the hallmark of new-gen Indian design.

hey Concrete’s collections are a tactile and visual odyssey, each finish bearing the story of place, purpose, and provenance. Their products are designed to accommodate contemporary and heritage architecture, allowing designers to layer heritage in modern contexts.

The company also offers a range of products, including wall panels, murals, high-end wash basins, and bricks that provide strength with high-end looks for both interior and exterior spaces. They believe that every wall is a clean page waiting to be written.

hey Concrete brings the luxury to be enjoyed without the luxury price, with a flawless balance of luxury design and affordability and creating spaces that transcend continents.

N Mahesh, celebrated both in India and internationally, has built a legacy on designs that honour tradition while embracing the possibilities of contemporary innovation. In this exclusive conversation with FOUR, he shares the philosophies, experiences, and ambitions that continue to shape his remarkable journey.

Shadowline Furniture: rooted in india, Built For the world

In a chat with FOUR, Aakash Patel, Furniture Designer of Shadowline Furniture, shares how traditional Indian architecture and cutting edge technology converge in his pursuit of a design language that’s intensely Indian yet globally resonant.

FOUR: s had Owline is kn Own FOR its c R a F tsmanshi P. hOw d O yOU PR ese Rve this standa R d as yOU g ROw?

Aakash Patel: We’ve set up SOPs and quality checks, but what sets us apart is that we’re not creating knockoffs. We’re building our design language. I know the intent behind each piece, and we make sure that vision translates perfectly at the shop floor. It’s this clarity, from concept to construction that helps us grow without compromising our standards.

FOUR: hOw d O yOU balance bes PO ke q Uality with a PR ice-sensitive ma R ket?

Aakash Patel: We don’t chase the lowest price; we pursue lasting value. We’re offering modern, India-rooted furniture with a better, more meaningful value proposition than massproduced goods. The Indian market is evolving, and while cost is still a concern, people now understand the difference between well-made items with intention and those made purely for volume. Our best salesperson is the product. When people touch it, sit on it, and see how it feels, they get it.

FOUR: w hat’s behind the signat UR e “s had Owline” aesthetic?

Aakash Patel: A shadow line is a deliberate gap between surfaces—often just 2–3 mm—that shows a clean, neat and tidy separation between two elements. I drew my attention while studying industrial design at ArtCenter, and it stuck with me. Later, I found similar detailing in Indian forts and temples, hundreds of years old. We’re not inventing; we’re reviving. We’re just bringing those details back with a contemporary voice.

FOUR: hOw has 5-axis cnc R esha P ed yOUR

PRO d U cti O n?

Aakash Patel: It has been transformative. A 3-axis CNC machine can only carve from above, but a 5-axis machine lets us shape a block from all sides except the base. That means we can achieve complex, sculptural forms that would otherwise require intense manual effort and yet not come close to the perfection we need. It reduces human error, saves time, and gives us freedom to innovate. It’s what sets us apart in design, turn around time and build quality.

FOUR: hOw d O es c U lt UR al he R itage in F lU ence yOUR m O de R n wOR k?

Aakash Patel: People associate Indian heritage with ornamentation, but there’s a structural minimalism in our old architecture that often goes unnoticed. Hampi, for example, has brilliant elegance—bold chamfers, continuity in form on all sides, a refined sense of proportions. I pull those ideas into our work. It’s less about replicating motifs and more about capturing intent, details, and scale.

FOUR: wOU ld yOU say yOU’R e b R eaking intO inte R nati O nal ma R kets th ROU gh design-led inn Ovati O n?

Aakash Patel: Design is our differentiator, yes! It’s what builds emotional connection and relevance. If you solve real problems elegantly, that becomes innovation.

FOUR: w he R e d O es ai F it intO s had Owline’s FU t UR e?

Aakash Patel: We’ve played around with it, but AI is still emerging in furniture. On the design side, it’s more about

concept generation—you prompt it with “mushroom + furniture,” and it gives you some wild, engaging visuals. But to go from idea to production, you still need designers, engineers, and craftspeople. Even with AI, I still 3D model manually, check tool paths, and test forms. Eventually, it will end long hours of iterative 3D modelling and enable mass customization at scale.

FOUR: hOw d O yOU PO siti O n lU x URy di FF e R ently FOR i ndian and glO bal ma R kets?

Aakash Patel: In the U.S., solid wood is premium. In India, veneered plywood became popular because of its flexibility in construction. We’re working to re-educate the market regarding the good old solid wood. There’s also a regional difference—North India often likes gilded, grand styles; South India prefers quiet, functional elegance. We cater to both regions, but always with our core identity intact.

FOUR: dO yOU see FU t UR e cO llab OR ati O ns with tech OR li F estyle b R ands?

Aakash Patel: Yes. We’re developing brilliant furniture— conference tables with integrated technology, customized in-wall speaker systems. We’re not just fabricators—we want to co-create.

FOUR: yOU began with design ed U cati O n. dO yOU still aim tO mentOR?

Aakash Patel: I’d love to! Furniture is tough—it takes time, space, and patience. But for those willing to stick with it, I’m happy to guide. We need more designers who think like makers.

FOUR: w hat new mate R ials excite yOU?

Aakash Patel: They’re not new, but metals and concrete. Both have immense potential for sculptural forms. But I want to explore them deeply—not just as surface finishes. That will take years of R&D, just like solid wood did.

FOUR: w hat’s next FOR s had Owline in the next 3–5 yea R s?

Aakash Patel: On average, we develop one new product every month. I want to double that. We aim to create a catalogue of designs that feel global but speak Indian—both subtle and bold, refined but raw.

FOUR: w hat de F ines s had Owline FOR yOU?

Aakash Patel: Contrast in our design, contradiction in our working methods; this is what defines us. We use efficient and advance machinery to create furniture with age-old, time consuming wood joinery. Our designs look and feel fresh and modern while what inspired them were ancient monuments. Some see echoes of Japanese or Scandinavian design, but it’s deeply Indian, because it’s born from our own architectural heritage and cultural practices.

As we grow, we keep the culture visible through discourse on design, people values, and philosophy, plus investment in leadership development to empower teams and decentralise decisionmaking.

Ankur Choksi: Our work draws from historic regional traditions - local materials, crafts, and cultural cues. For example, in the RAAS Jodhpur project, traditional stonemasons cut local sandstone by hand using their tools, creating a contemporary pattern of graded slits. This sustained employment, drawn from traditional skills, produced unique texture and depth impossible through mechanisation, and reduced environmental impact - the embodied carbon was one-fifth that of waterjet processes. The project showed that unlocking this potential requires trust in the process and wisdom of artisans, who become co-authors in the design process, »

Ambrish Arora: We don’t look at sustainability as a layer to apply across our work - it’s a core value. Our design process examines it through cultural, social, and environmental lenses. Every project starts with questions: what does the place need, what does the context allow, and what systems are already in play? We prioritize doing more with less, minimizing harm, enabling continuity, and using what’s present - culturally, climatically, and economically.

The main challenge is mindset: sustainability is often seen as a compromise, meaning fewer features and less comfort. Our work aims to shift that, showing how relevance, beauty, and delight can emerge from constraints, and that meaningful design emerges from restraint. wOU ld yOU describe

Combined with a flexible approach to the design process, it allows for improvement and contribution at every stage. The recognition that there is only that much knowledge we as individuals have, makes us go out of our way to collaborate with others in the domain of craft, structural design, and construction. At Krushi Bhawan, we worked with over 50 local artisans under the guidance of local Ar. Sibanand Bhol. For our Villa in the Woods project, we wanted the structure to sit delicately on that terrain, but not have to compromise on structural stability. Lime plasters and earth mixes offer breathability and repairability; laterite and Khondalite hold heat and weather well in coastal and humid zones; waste stone can be elevated through craft to set new aspirations. Ankur Choksi - The constant is our value system; the variable is the form it takes in each context. Internally, breaking silos is key - our teams often collaborate across projects, ensuring cross-pollination of ideas. This diversity of context and approach, anchored by consistent principles, allows us to produce a diversity of visual outcomes that are still recognisably ours in the experience. Ek k alaakar: FlawEd but Fabulous!

Uniting sustainability, artisanal craftsmanship, and refined aesthetics, Ek Kalaakar Design Studio redefines luxury by making ethical craft the foundation of exclusive thoughtfully made design.

founded by designer and sustainability advocate Anurag Bhandari, Ek Kalaakar Design Studio represents the confluence of environmental responsibility, innovative craftsmanship, and aesthetic excellence. Headquartered in Ahmedabad, the studio has established itself as a distinctive name in the sphere of upcycled and sustainable design, with a growing repertoire of bespoke furniture, lighting, sculpture, and interior elements.

Anurag’s creative vision draws from an unusual trajectory. Trained in transportation design and with early professional experience in the steel industry, he possessed an acute understanding of the environmental challenges posed by industrial production. A moment of reflection— sparked by observing a weaver bird’s nest crafted entirely from found materials—crystallised his design ethos: beauty should be created without depleting the planet’s resources.

Rather than turning away from the contradictions of his industrial background, Anurag chose to address them directly by founding Ek Kalaakar Design Studio.

At the core of the brand lies a simple yet powerful philosophy: Flawed + Fabulous. Recycled + Reusable. Every creation begins with discarded or overlooked materials— wood, acrylic, mild steel, glass, metal, slag, concrete— objects that have reached the end of their conventional use. These are transformed into functional, enduring, and aesthetically compelling pieces that retain the story of their origin. In doing so, the studio champions the idea that imperfections can become defining features, and that sustainability and luxury can coexist seamlessly.

Since its inception, Ek Kalaakar has repurposed more than five tonnes of waste, diverting it from landfills and reimagining it into sophisticated design objects. The process is deliberate and material-led; the inherent qualities of each

ABovE from left to right, Big Moody Almari, Kukurrmuta Mud Lamp, Element Sofa, om Shanti Totem

piece—its texture, form, and structural nuances—dictate its transformation. This approach results in works such as the Sound Wave Totem, a striking three-dimensional representation of the “om Shanti” chant, crafted entirely from upcycled plywood and set in terracotta. Another signature piece, the Kukurrmutha Lamp, draws inspiration from the organic form of the mushroom, repurposing discarded PvC pipes and slag into a warm, ambient lighting statement.

While the studio’s portfolio is anchored in sustainable furniture and product design, Ek Kalaakar also undertakes customised commissions, collaborating with architects, interior designers, and private clients. Each project is treated as a creative partnership, ensuring that the end result is both environmentally responsible and precisely attuned to the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements.

For Anurag, the pursuit of sustainability is inseparable from the pursuit of beauty. The studio avoids mass production in favour of meticulously crafted, timeless objects that stand apart from transient trends. This ethos aligns with the sensibilities of clients who value exclusivity, artisanal quality, and ecological awareness. The studio’s work consistently challenges conventional boundaries, often blurring the line between design and art while maintaining functionality and durability.

The creative environment itself reflects this philosophy. The studio’s leafy courtyard, fragrant with rain on earth and alive with birdsong, offers a calm counterpoint to Ahmedabad’s urban intensity—an atmosphere that inspires mindful creation.

Ek Kalaakar’s growth is underpinned by a clear long-term vision. Within the next five years, Anurag aims to establish it

as India’s largest upcycling design studio, synonymous with sustainability-led innovation and recognised for its ability to transform waste into aspirational lifestyle products. Beyond commercial success, the brand is committed to shaping a cultural shift in how materials are valued and used in design.

The studio’s identity is deeply rooted in the belief that sustainability is not a compromise but a refinement of luxury. By sourcing responsibly, designing thoughtfully, and crafting meticulously, Ek Kalaakar demonstrates that ethical design can be both environmentally restorative and visually compelling.

As Anurag Bhandari articulates, “It is a good idea to create more than you consume.” His work is a testament to this conviction—a continuing endeavour to breathe new life into the discarded, to craft beauty from what others overlook, and to merge environmental stewardship with artistic innovation.

Ek Kalaakar Design Studio stands as a powerful example of how a singular vision, informed by both personal conviction and professional expertise, can redefine the parameters of contemporary design. In an era where sustainability is an imperative, the brand offers a blueprint for a future where elegance, responsibility, and creativity are inseparably intertwined.

A bride steps forward, her ancestral gold jhumkas glinting under the mandap’s glow, each gem whispering tales of love and lineage. In Indian weddings, jewellery transcends adornment, embodying prosperity, heritage, and auspicious beginnings, transforming ceremonies into opulent celebrations of eternal bonds.

the significance of jewellery traces back to ancient India, where vedic texts revered gold as a divine blessing, symbolizing purity and wealth. The Mahabharata describes queens draped in ornate necklaces, a tradition enriched by Mughal craftsmanship. Persian-inspired kundan and polki techniques, with their intricate gem settings, blended with regional styles - South India’s temple jewellery, etched with deities, or North India’s navratna, aligning with astrological energies. As diamonds gained popularity, it weaved sparkle into heirlooms that still grace modern brides, each piece a testament to centuries of artistry.

Culturally, jewellery in Indian weddings carries profound meaning. In the South, the mangalsutra, a sacred thread of black and gold beads, binds the couple in lifelong commitment. Punjabi brides don red ‘chooda’ bangles to ward off evil, their clinks echoing their joy. These heirlooms,

often passed down through generations, weave emotional legacies into the ceremony, with emeralds symbolizing prosperity or rubies igniting passion. Luxury weddings elevate this with bespoke pieces, crafted to reflect the couple’s unique narrative, blending sentiment with celestial significance.

Today’s brides embrace sustainable elegance, choosing recycled gold or lab-grown diamonds that honour tradition without environmental cost. Modern designs fuse vintage polki with minimalist settings, balancing opulence with wearability. Jewellers curate pieces that speak to the bride’s identity, ensuring each necklace or bangle is both a statement and a keepsake.

In Indian weddings, jewellery is a bridge between past and future, carrying stories of devotion and heritage. Every gem, meticulously chosen, transforms the moment into a legacy of love, forever etched in gold.

tO KOl KAtA , Wit H lOve!

Kolkata is not a destination you simply visit; it sweeps you in. The city reveals itself as an exquisite soirée where tradition and sophistication intertwine. FOUR Magazine meets it in its festive best!

Kolkata knows how to romance time! The city slips effortlessly from one season of festivity to the next, gilded with rituals, history and an unmistakable élan and any celebration here is elevated to an art form. To wander here is to feel both intimacy and grandeur, as if you’ve been welcomed into an old-world salon where tradition and modernity swirl in the same breath!

When the Goddess arrives, the city awakens to its grandest. Durga Pujo here is not merely observed; it is lived, as a daughter’s return to her ancestral home. The dhaak reverberates across neighbourhoods, dhuno smoke curls through the air, and intricately crafted pandals rise like ephemeral palaces. From the ateliers of Kumartuli, where clay comes alive, to the illuminated avenues of Ballygunge and Salt Lake, Kolkata becomes a theatre of imagination. Families gather, shaankh (conch shells) resound, and for an entire month, the streets themselves seem to pulse with divinity and design.

Beyond the revelry, Kolkata’s beauty lies in its layered charm. The Maidan stretches wide, a green heart where the white dome of the Victoria Memorial glows against the twilight skies, welcoming winter. Trams rattle past banyanlined boulevards, ferry boats cut across the Hooghly with a painter’s ease, and the colonnades of North Kolkata whisper the stories of merchant princes. Step into College Street,

where books spill from pavements and time bends inside the Indian Coffee House, a haunt for philosophers and poets. Then, glide south to discover contemporary galleries, design ateliers and cafés humming with the city’s modern beat.

As winter arrives, the city dresses itself anew. Park Street glimmers under a canopy of lights, its colonial façades strung with festivity. The season’s elegance unfolds in midnight mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral, in laughter spilling from Bow Barracks, in the clink of glasses at Flurys. The air carries a nip of nostalgia, inviting horse-drawn carriage rides along red road or evenings by the Hooghly where the skyline shimmers in reflection.

Cuisine, of course, is the city’s most eloquent poetry. The river gifts its ilish, while winter markets bring the golden sweetness of nolen gur. Street corners serve tea in clay cups, old cake shops smell of fruit cakes, aristocratic clubs serve platters of roast and pudding, and every bite carries a story of season, soil and soul.

The city moves with a certain aristocratic grace: from Durga Puja that arrives in a blaze of artistry and ritual, to winter nights that see Park Street glittering like a grand chandelier. Kolkata does not simply host festivals; it becomes them. To arrive here in its festive months is to surrender to a city that insists on beauty, that turns living into celebration, and that never lets you forget you’ve entered somewhere rare!

Puja, Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, captures the poetry of homecoming and celebration with elegance, intimacy and profoundly warm indulgence.

each autumn, Kolkata performs its most incredible metamorphosis! The city, already steeped in history and imagination, unfurls into a stage of devotion, artistry and dazzling extravaganza. Durga Puja here is no ordinary festival; it is an inheritance, a homecoming, a celebration so singular that UNESCO has enshrined it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Yet beyond the spectacle lies something far more intimate: reunion. Families that span continents fold into each other’s arms. Across oceans and time zones, Baritey Pherar Daak—the ancestral call to return—resonates. And inevitably, that call is answered, as people trace their way back to the city’s incandescent pandals, the thrum of dhaak, and the rising curls of dhuno that veil the city in reverence and its enduring rituals of joy.

Friends, long separated by the demands of life, rediscover familiar laughter beneath pandal lights. Couples slip away from the crowds, carving moments of quiet intimacy amidst the city’s grandeur as the sound of the shaankh unfurls at twilight and the hum of the city is replaced with a cacophony of rhythms familiar to them.

It is a season of belonging, where the meaning of home is found as much in crowded alleys as in quiet courtyards fragrant with marigolds.

At Hyatt regency Kolkata, this feeling takes shape in both timeless and contemporary ways. The hotel, nestled in Salt Lake, occupies that perfect balance. Close enough to Kolkata’s most storied pandals to feel their pulse, offering revelry and retreat in the same breath.

Inside, the spirit of Puja is refracted through Hyatt’s signature opulent hospitality. Families gather at lavish

buffet spreads where dishes taste like heirlooms, redolent of kitchens where grandmothers once stirred! Guests are immersed in an abundance of thoughtful touches that redefine their experience, from vases of fresh flowers to dining experiences that capture the soul of the season.

For many who return after years away, Hyatt becomes not just a retreat but the city’s first embrace.

This year, the hotel distils the sentiment into a campaign as poetic as the festival itself: “Durga Doesn’t Just Arrive. She Calls Us Home.” It is a message that embodies longing and reunion, inclusivity and joy; the threads that weave Durga Puja into a story larger than the ritual, even larger than the city.

Because in Kolkata, Pujo is not just observed. It is lived! It spills into light and laughter, into streets thrumming with artistry, into the collective rhythm of a city that remembers. And when the Goddess arrives, so do her people, returning to where the heart knows it belongs!

Durga Puja is Kolkata’s call to the world. At Hyatt regency Kolkata, that call is thoughtfully answered with elegance, warmth, and the quiet opulence of homecoming.

Nestled in the Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan, Sariska is a captivating destination that seamlessly blends natural beauty, rich wildlife, and historical grandeur. A short drive from Delhi or Jaipur, this hidden gem offers the perfect escape for those seeking both tranquility and adventure.

At the heart of Sariska lies the Sariska Tiger reserve, a renowned national park and former royal hunting ground. Spanning over 800 square kilometers, the reserve is home to a growing population of Bengal tigers, leopards, hyenas, jackals, and numerous species of deer and birds. The landscape shifts dramatically—from dry deciduous forests and rocky outcrops to serene grasslands and winding streams—offering a diverse and immersive safari experience. Jeep safaris are the best way to explore the terrain and spot wildlife in their natural habitat.

Beyond the thrill of the jungle, Sariska is steeped in history and mythology. A visit to the ancient Kankwari Fort, perched high inside the reserve, unveils stories of Mughal intrigue and rajput valor. Legend has it that

Emperor Aurangzeb once imprisoned his brother Dara Shikoh here. The views from the fort are breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset.

Another must-visit is the Pandupol Hanuman Temple, believed to be the resting place of the Pandavas during their exile. The temple is set beside a scenic waterfall, which flows during the monsoon, adding a mystical charm to the location.

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, history buff, or spiritual seeker, Sariska offers a layered and enriching travel experience. Best visited between October and March, it promises cool weather, clearer skies, and optimal wildlife sightings. Sariska isn’t just a destination—it’s a journey into rajasthan’s lesser-explored wilderness and timeless heritage.

t he celebration of Divine l ight

From the shimmer of sari silk to the softness of hand-tufted rugs, The Blue Knot’s Jayań collection celebrates Diwali’s radiance in rugs, cushions and textiles through their opulent heritage craft.

there’s a quiet confidence to The Blue Knot. This is not a brand chasing trends, but one that knows the worth of slow craft and the poetry of a well-made textile. Their world is built on the hands of artisans, dye masters coaxing colour into yarn, weavers giving rhythm to threads, finishers adding the last touch that makes a piece sing. Rugs, cushions, pouffes, throws, and table runners are each shaped by heritage and made to belong in a modern home that values both beauty and conscience.

This season, they bring that sensibility to Jayań: The Celebration of Divine light. It’s not simply a festive line; it’s a love letter to Diwali and the many ways light moves through our lives.

Jayań is not just a collection, it’s a celebration of light in all its forms. Inspired by the spirit of Diwali, this curation reflects the beauty of quiet opulence, where tradition meets thoughtful modernity.

The divine light we speak of is not merely seen. It is felt in the gentle textures of hand-tufted & hand knotted rugs, in the glimmering embroidery of cushions, and in

the warmth of hues that echo festive nostalgia. A sari’s silk pallu flows softly across a rug; delicate petals rest on gold-threaded fabrics. Jayań captures the grace of these fleeting moments and translates them into pieces that anchor your home in meaning and beauty.

Crafted with care and intention, every element in the collection speaks of heritage reimagined. from intricate patterns inspired by Indian textiles to modern silhouettes softened by earthy palettes, Jayań creates a mood that is both celebratory and serene.

This Diwali, embrace the glow and not just in diyas and fairy lights, but in the soulful details that surround us. In cushions that cradle quiet conversations, in rugs that hold the memory of festive laughter, in textiles that echo the richness of culture.

Jayań is for homes that don’t just decorate for the season, but prepare to receive joy, light, and togetherness. It is an ode to the divine force that dispels darkness and renews the spirit, with harmony, grace, and warmth. Discover the collection and let your space reflect the light within.
