The very first thing we did was go over the damage we found that the whole roof and quarter pan need to be completely new. We started cutting the roof and the quarter panel off, once we had completed fixing the damage we order a new roof, quarter panel, and headliner. the headliner had to be replaced do to the roof of the car being crushed. once we had put all the new thing on we had to get everything ready for paint. once we had finished painting it was time to wet sand to make sure there are no uneven spots in the paint. Eli HunzigerVOICE OF DEMOCRACY
Payton Hass Wins V.F.W. Essay Contest
On March 2, Payton Hass accepted a first place certificate and cash award of $150 at the Galmey V F W for her winning essay.
This year ’ s essay topic was “What are the greatest attributes of our democracy?” Hass read her winning speech at the banquet. You can see her full essay below.
“What are the Greatest Attributes of Our Democracy?”
Democracy is undoubtedly one of the most important attributes of any society In the United States, we have been blessed to live in a Representative Democracy Our voices can be heard, allowing our opinions to shape the course of our nation “Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve,” George Shaw once said It’s our way of life in this society So let me ask you, what has democracy done for you?
Voting is unarguably the foundation of democracy It offers us the opportunity to participate in our government, and allows us to elect representatives who will reflect our concerns and aspirations Across the world, many countries withhold voting from their citizens or rig the system in favor of one party Therefore we should be grateful for this privilege
Moreover, living in a democratic society provides us with an array of freedoms that we often take for granted Many of these freedoms are not enjoyed
by Payton Hass
around the world We often overlook how we are able to choose when and how many children to have In other countries where authoritarian regimes rule, such decisions are regulated or even denied completely This impinges on individual autonomy Furthermore, we are free to access information from various sources to formulate our own opinions Different from countries that control media narratives, we can read, listen to, and believe whatever we desire This freedom of thinking provided by democracy promotes critical thinking, enabling us to make informed decisions as citizens of the United States Another right we take for good is the right to personal property It grants us the privilege to own land and other belongings This ensures our property cannot be unfairly confiscated, thus promoting security and stability of our society These freedoms make seem small, but contribute to our quality of life With them, it makes it more humane and easier to navigate One supreme advantage of democracy is a fair a

and speedy trial, as stated in the 6th Amendment in the United States Constitution This right guarantees us legal representation, even if we cannot afford it, safeguards us from unnecessary delays in the due process, and allows us to have the right to confront our accusers The right to a fair trial ensures the protection of our rights and liberties, allowing our society to be based on justice and equality In countries without democratic systems, having a fair trial can be difficult or even impossible Governments may abuse power for personal or political gain, and individuals may face unfair punishment For example, in non-democracies, authorities can and will hold families of the accused as hostages to extract confessions or conform to their beliefs This abuse of power is not only unethical, but it damages societies
It is crucial to recognize that democracy is not a flawless system, and some people may argue that the United States is experiencing challenges and uncertainties However, we should not use these

difficulties as an excuse to disregard the gifts bestowed upon us by democracy.
Instead, we should use our rights and privileges to actively address the issues we encounter. If we disagree with the state of our country, we have the power to voice our opinions, exercise our right to vote, and support candidates who align with our values and aspirations. Moreover, our democratic system encourages citizen participation to the fullest extent by allowing individuals to run for office, provided they meet the necessary requirements. This inherent potential to enact change is a testament to the strength and beauty of our democracy.
In conclusion, our democracy provides us with rights and freedoms, or blessings, that we should be grateful for every day Not only are we able to participate in our government through voting, but we have the ability to enjoy fundamental freedoms granted to us by democracy Even with its flaws, democracy is meant to be cherished and engaged in Let us be grateful for the gifts bestowed upon us by democracy, and strive to utilize them for the betterment of our country
