Students enjoyed tea and creepy hors d'oeuvres in honor of the American Gothic Era writer and listened to a reading of the short story The Masque of the Red Death.

If dudes could talk “Would you stop chewing on me you crazy animal, don’t you know I have feelings, you ungrateful swine.” The fur ball backed away with the sound of the vertically challenged girl, “ Lancelot, nooooo.

Those are my good shoes!”

“Whew, I thought I was going to die today, wait, what is that?!! Is that a string, that stinking ball of fur chewed a string loose. AHHHH.” “ Calm down, Lefty.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down, ‘Mr. I’m looking good as always’ it ruined my favorite part of me… my FACE.” “Okay, calm down, Lefty.

I’m sorry… Yeah you better fix that, it makes you look nerdy.”

“Whatttttt???” “Yeah, Lefty, even heel and tops are over there across the hardwood floor in the dark room that they call a closet.

And my my my, aren’t they looking shiny in that dark looking corner…Oh they’re waving, smile and wave back.” “What!

No. They said I looked dainty and crisp on MY BIRTHDAY as my present!” Righty rolled its lacey eyes, “As IF.” The organized girl picked us up, “Oh no. It’s time for school!” They shrieked in horror. We swallowed her stinky feet like the whale did with Jonah in the Bible. . If I could spew them out, I definitely would, I thought to myself.

But apparently my brother felt the same, because he squeaked…

A.K.A the walking farts. Righty gets them when he’s scared to death. We’ve carried her over gum, spit, and many other unknown substances.

In meet and greet classes, however, they call it a learning classroom. All I know is it is a personal death trap for me and my brother, the white tiles blind the heck out of us.

Sometimes we’re blinded too much that we’re stunned and frozen into place, that’s when she blames us for falling over air. Not going to lie, it’s hilarious to watch her go from standing up one minute and the next second she’s on the floor embarrassed and bright red.

Girl, by the time we get home, WE’RE the ones that are bright red. POW POW POW, she stomps up to the floor of death. “OW, my face,” Lefty cries. “ Big baby, take it like a man, like your big brother here.” Righty Snickers to himself.

Each class goes on so slow, I feel like we’re never going to have a break from this heavy weightier.

Believe it or not, I, myself Lefty, used to be squeaky clean, but not anymore! This girl drowns me into mud puddles, kicks me into a pink wall (like it’s my favorite color), and lets her rabbit bite the crap out of me. Those Stompers think they have bad days, wait till they ram you into a wall, complaining how they had a bad day. When Righty and I have enough, we take it into our own heels. Why do you Stompers think you trip all the time! Makes our days much better when we’ve done our job at least once or twice a day.

At the Lakeland game, we were down 19 in the 4th quarter, but we brought it back and won.

Meet Your SENIORS! Darby Fillipi Above is senior, Darby Fillipi. Darby was born August 7, 2005. She has been going to Skyline her entire life. Darby is also the Skyline High School football manager. One fun fact about Darby is her first job was working at the Nemo Marina. Her favorite memory at Skyline was when some boys stepped up and shaved their head for Lyndsey, who was dignosed with cancer. Darby, like most people, keeps her ketchup in the fridge.

Devin McCowan We also have senior, Devin McCowan. Devin has also gone to Skyline his entire life. Devin’s first job was doing farm work around his family farm. Devin’s favorite memory at Skyline was when he put a shopping cart in the art buildings ceiling. Like a normal person, Devin also stores his ketchup in the fridge.

Homecoming 2023 may not have ended up the way we all expected. A TIE!!! How may this have happened you ask? Well, both Ashton Cooley and Chayla Tuning had the exact same number of votes. Ashton was escorted by senior football player, Weston Stoner. Ashton is involved in basketball. Chayla was escorted by senior football player, Aiden Battles. Chayla is involved in two sports: volleyball and softball.

There to present the two crowns was 2022 Homecoming Queen Abagail Hammer. Abigail was escorted by Camden West and Carter Millbern.

Other escorts were: AJ Dampier, Zack Kelley, and Maddox Moore.

The year to come Skyline High School FBLA has a big year ahead! We’ve received many new people to join us and it’s exciting to see what competition lies ahead. I interviewed our high school chapter adviser, Mrs. Logan, about the upcoming year. She told me her goal for 2024 and the remainder of 2023 is to have “meaningful community service and quality competition,” and her most anticipated event coming up was districts, state, and nationals, which she hopes for her members to advance through. I also interviewed the chapter president, Brody Pratt, and he is excited to plan the chapter’s glow run coming up and excited to start competitive events.

Competitive events for 2024 will be warmly welcomed by Skyline FBLA since last year the chapter had a multitude of members qualify for state including, Brody Pratt, Jorja Harrison, Faith Moore, Jacob Merritt. The parliamentary procedure team also made it but didn't qualify to compete.

With all these members making a return, we also have many new people joining who are very promising!

Our high school and middle school chapter attended the District 13 fall planning meeting on October 25th at Incredible Pizza.

Monthly Beef Cattle Market October 2023 Report

Compared to last week, steers and heifers overall unevenly steady with long weaned, vaccinated calves and yearlings bringing a premium and unweaned, bawling calves getting discounted. Demand was good for the right kind of cattle on a moderate supply. Boxed beef cutouts gained ground this week with choice closing at 305.38, 4.58 higher than a week ago, and select at 278.70, up 3.21 for the week. Negotiated feedlot sales were just over 89,000, as of Friday afternoon. Live purchases ranged from 184.00 to 187.00 and dressed from 292.00 to 294.00. Estimated weekly cattle slaughter came in at 638,000 head, 21,000 more than a week ago but 37,000 less than a year ago. Year to date cattle slaughter totaled 26.122 million head, 4.57 percent less than a year ago. Friday's Cattle on Feed report showed cattle and calves on feed at 11.6 million head, one percent more than a year ago. This is the second highest October 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.

The prereport estimates had a range of 99 to 100.3 percent.

Placements in feedlots totaled 2.21 million head, 6 percent more than a year ago. The pre-report estimates had a range of 95.9 to 104.8 percent. Marketings of fed cattle totaled 1.66 million head, 11 percent less than a year ago. Pre-report estimates of markings had a range of 88.0 to 91.3 percent.

Monday's Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 3650 head with a weighted average weight of 540.28 lbs and a price value of 278.63, 0.87 higher than a week ago. The steer/heifer price spread is 34.24. Supply included: 71% Feeder Cattle (53% Steers, 41% Heifers, 6% Bulls); 19% Slaughter Cattle (2% Steers, 0% Heifers, 89% Cows, 8% Bulls); 10% Replacement Cattle (12% Stock Cows, 56% Bred Cows, 4% Bred Heifers, 27% Cow-Calf Pairs, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 48%.

Mr. Phillips thought that although the cattle market was high, the price of goods to care for your cattle is just as high, so it isn’t any easier to take care of your cattle. He has had to reduce his herd by about 20% due to a hay and grass shortage

FEMA Building

fema building Ground was broken for the FEMA building on June 29, 2022 at 6:45pm. About a month later the evacuation crew was preparing the site for construction. The concrete footings and foundation were scheduled to be poured in September. The concrete panels for the structure were scheduled to arrive in December. Once they arrived the construction began. The drive connecting the elementary to the middle school and high school will no longer be used while the construction is happening. They inserted a circle drive to help the flow of traffic during schools pick-ups and drop-offs.

The storm shelter was finished at the start of the year, and opened for a chili dinner during the open house of the 2023 school year. It has hosted the Health Fair, Blood Drive, Homecoming Dance, and Senior Citizen Lunch. Included in the FEMA buildng is bleachers, lockerooms, a basketball court, and batting nets upstairs. The batting nets are dedicated to Troy Pinon, who unfortunately passed away before the building was finished. His wife and family donated $4000 on his behalf for equipment for the FEMA building. The building will be open to the Skyline community when there is a tornado warning issued in our area. Anyone who needs a safe shelter is welcome.

He has 9 brothers and 5 sisters who are not all blood. He only has one full blood sibling. Mr. Bennett is a volunteer at Preston Fire Department. This is his 4th year of teaching, 3 of which were at Martin Warren Elementary in Warrensburg, Missouri, teaching 3rd grade. He enjoys teaching math and science.

Another fun fact about Mr. Bennett is that he graduated in 2014, the same year that about half of his students were born. He informed us that his hidden talent is that he can clap with one hand.

His hobbies include video games, sleeping, football, computer networking, Earlier this month James and college. meet the teacher mrs. jennifer sanders Mrs. Jennifer Sanders, the new high school math teacher, is a mother of three: Walker 25, McKinley 20, and McKaylyn 13. She loves watching basketball and sports in general, gardening, hunting, reading, crocheting, and quilting. She has been married to her husband for twenty-one years, and they actually met while working together at Pizza Hut in high school.

Her family has owned a home on Pomme De Terre Lake for several years, and they made the decision to move there for a permanent home.

Both her and her husband wanted to work for the very best district in the

area , and were blessed to get that opportunity.

Her best memory so far has been getting to know all the students and teachers. She stated, “This is an awesome place to be!”

She has been in public education for twentyfour years, and began teaching at her Alma Mater, Norwood High School, for six years.

She then became the high school principal at Hartville High School for the next fifteen years, and taught various subjects the last two years there. She loves most subjects, but she is the best at math which is her initial certification.

Her birthday is February 6th.

Her favorite food is homemade hibachi, and her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family.

Her favorite treat is coffee.

A fun fact about Mrs. Sanders is that she had the honor of playing basketball on a State Champions team in 1994. Her hidden talent would be she played college basketball for two years, and was All-State two years.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY A SKYLINE TRADITION On Friday, October 27, Skyline’s young and young at heart gathered in the new FEMA building to honor our community’s senior citizens. Patrons were served a meal catered by Sugarfoot BBQ and our school cooks. Superintendent Jason Pursley gave a moving speech honoring his grandfather and gave away several door prizes that ranged from table centerpieces to $100 cash!

Jobs for Americas Graduates (JAG) is a non-profit organization that focuses on supporting young individuals in overcoming various obstacles to pursue successful careers. This program primarily assists high school students who may face challenges like limitations, disabilities, or difficulties in academics. JAG provides a range of services, including academic guidance, counseling, training for job readiness and assistance with job placement. The program’s objective is to equip students with the skills and knowledge to thrive both professionally and personally. Through collaborations with institutions, employers and government agencies JAG strives to create a future for the youth across the United States.

Fall Speaking Tuesday, October 27, seven students went to the Area X Fall Speaking contest held at Buffalo. The top three in each category will move on to districts. Haley Long placed first in the Missouri Association of Soil and Water Conservation. Kaylynn Morehead placed first in the Missouri Sheep producers, Kali McCarty placed third in Teach Ag, Katelin Sutton placed third in the Missouri Young Farmers/Young Farm Wives, and Holly Hahs placed third in the Missouri Pet Breeders Association. Districts will be held on Friday, November 17.

National Convention

On Tuesday, October 31, thirteen students will be leaving for the 96th annual National FFA Convention. In addition, Ada Maybary, Colton Whitney, Quincy Hodges, and Lily Poynter will be competing at the national level in the nursery/landscaping contest.

HOW THE ART WAS MADE He free hand drew the drawings. He didn’t trace them. He used a pencil, then outlined it with a thin tip marker.

Then he colored them with colored pencils.
