INSPIRED OUTFITS “INSIDE OUT”

ANGER aka TOMBOY

Anger cares that things are fair and sometimes acts impulsively, he definitely likes to do things his own way. He has a fiery spirit and can explode when things don’t go his way. Anger is the ultimate inspiration for a tomboy look that screams cool and confident. Cut out a smart shirt into a crop for some edgy vibes, put a tie on, and pair it with some cargo pants. Layer up with a jacket to add a touch of refinement to the ensemble. A pair of boots or sneakers will complete your look and you’re ready to go!

Have you heard Inside Out is coming out in June

If you’re a fan of Inside Out and why wouldn’t you be it deals with emotions we all go through then you’ll definitely be feeling our Get The Look which is inspired by the movie Whether you’re feeling blue fiery distaste or radiant embracing your emotions allows you to show up as your authentic self

DISGUST aka BADDIE

She doesn’t have the best name, but Disgust is highly opinionated, very honest and, she takes care of Riley, making sure Riley doesn’t get poisoned, or worse, wears last year’s terrible fashion trend! Sounds a bit like a baddie? Let’s unleash your inner baddie and take inspiration from the fabulous Disgust - because really, she does have the best of intentions. Pick out a vibrant green dress and pair it with a cute mini purse and bright coloured killer heels. Amp it up with a layered necklace, chunky earrings and stacked bracelets. You can also try it out in different bold colours. Disgust doesn’t lower her standards and neither should you! So wear what makes you feel at your best and step into the world full of confidence!

8

JOY aka SOFTGIRL

Joy is like her name suggestioncheerful and optimistic! Joy also likes to be in control, so she is more like soft girl meets baddie, rolled into one. Embrace your joyful feminine energy with a floral dress or skirt that exudes whimsy and charm. Accessorize with delicate jewellery to add that sparkle. Joy channels yellow, a colour that signifies happiness, but you can wear any colour that makes you feel feminine and cheerful. If the weather changes, layer up with a cosy sweater or cardigan.

SADDESS

Sadness is an emotion we tend to want to bury, thinking she is pessimistic and slow, bringing everyone down. But in reality Sadness is intelligent and her slowness is more thoughtfulness. Sadness has instinct and is able to bring people together. To embrace your inner Sadness through style, start by choosing the colour blue and rocking a cosy hoodie/sweater and leggings or biker shorts. Then add a pair of combat boots. Finish the look by adding light accessories. This look will make you feel comfy the entire day and pulling off this low key look also gives a confidence boost to face the world.

Look out for Inside Out with all new emotional characters in June 9

8 Cool Hairstyles

you can Rock at School

Hey SKY girlies Nomsa here and I’m going to show you some of the coolest ways to style your natural hair to rock this school season

You ’ ll need:

Ribbons

Loom bands

Hair gel

An edge brush

A hairband

A brush Pins

Double buns:

Gather your hair into a low ponytail. Divide the ponytail into two sections. Twist each section loosely and wrap them around the base of the ponytail to form buns. Secure the buns with bobby pins. Gently tug on the buns to create a messy, relaxed look.

High puff with hair band:

Gather your hair into a high ponytail. Slip a hair band around the base of the ponytail to create the puff. Fluff out the hair in the puff to achieve volume.

Half up half down with 2 messy buns:

Divide your hair horizontally into two sections. Create two messy buns with the upper section of your hair. Leave the bottom section of hair loose or style it as desired.

10

Side swoop with loom bands:

Part your hair to the side. Sweep a section of hair across your forehead to create a side swoop. Use loom bands to secure the swoop in place if desired.

Don’t forget to moisturize your hair girly! To avoid breakage , moisturize or oil your scalp and hair before you get those fabulous hairstyles styles done, don’t forget to oil often for healthy growth and prevent itchy scalp.

2 front cornrows & puff:

Divide the front section of your hair into two parts. Create two cornrows on each side. Gather the remaining hair into a high puff using a hair band.

2 high pigtails with swoop:

Part your hair down the middle or on the side. Create two high ponytails on each side of your head. Sweep a small section of hair from each side across your forehead to create a swoop effect.

Pro tip: you could use hair oils like coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, castor oil, and moisturizers like leave-in conditioner and hair mists.

Tobacco products are a big no no if you want healthy hair growth! Tobacco products like cigarettes, shisha and nsunko can negatively affect hair health by reducing blood flow to hair follicles, leading to potential hair loss. Not only that, the toxins in tobacco smoke may damage hair proteins and hinder the absorption of nutrients which contribute to hair damage, making your hair dry and brittle, nobody wants that.

Sleeping with a bonnet is important for maintaining healthy hair. It helps reduce friction between your hair and the pillow, preventing breakage and split ends.

You might not like this but trust me!

Trim trim trim!! Trim your hair every three months to avoid split ends which could damage your hair and this encourages healthy hair growth, thank me later!

Which hairstyles are you rocking this season?

Dear 14 year old Saliyah, hey girl? How are you doing? You have acne and an obsession with basketball right now. I am so glad you have a sport you like; it keeps you busy and fit. But please, give your books time too, because trust me, your mom won't let you catch a break about it.

As for the acne, I know you are trying different products to have it clear out because it makes you insecure, especially at school where every girl you see has perfect skin, but I want you to stop. Some of the products you are using are very harsh for your delicate skin. Your favourite song is Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara; I want you to live it. Find your beauty in every lyric and note of that song because, baby girl, even if your entire face was covered with acne, you are absolutely gorgeous. Have you seen your smile? Have you heard yourself speak? Have you seen how selfless you are? How smart and funny you are? Have you heard yourself sing? Sally, I am asking you many rhetorical questions about all the merits that make you beautiful. There is more, but I know how you like to get straight to the point, so I'll stop here. I ask you all this because I want you to see that what you think makes you ugly is outweighed.

I mentioned earlier about you giving your books time. I am very serious about that. You are such an intelligent girl, but you need to put in some effort, you know. I need you to understand things and not merely know them. There is a difference there. When you understand something, you'll be able to explain it even better than when you just know. Also, relax with the noise in class; you make people happy, but you've done too many punishments, lol.

Your personality shields you from many detrimental things. I love that you do not give in to peer pressure and see the bigger picture in every situation. I know they call you uptight and an overthinker, and it makes you feel a little blue, but pay a deaf ear to that. You are not easily influenced, and that right there is your superpower.

Your friends Joseph and Francine introduced you to poetry, and now that's all you want to do because it's also an outlet of how you feel. I think that's healthy, it's not good to bottle up emotions so I am proud of you. Also, nothing is wrong with you, eventually you will know how to express how you feel but for now, poetry is the only way you know how to. Carry on.

Don't shy away from creative writing. Your ability to sing so well, coupled with creative writing, has the potential to make you a very good songwriter. Lastly, think positive and stay focused. You are loved and blessed. Take care.

I love you with all my head, I'd say heart, but my head is bigger.
Xx

Refus al Style Wh at’s Your

Part of finding your SKY is knowing when something is not for you, something you don’t want in your life, and learning how to say "No" to it, even when others are doing it. But sometimes, it can be hard to just say "NO". Whether you're telling your friend you can't hang out, saying hell no to shisha,or saying no thanks to a boy who wants you to do something you don't like, rejecting someone can feel mean or rude.

BLUE SKY

Personality

However, saying "yes" when you don't want to or when you know that it's not your thing will get in the way of you being who you are. The good news is this is a skill you can learn. And the best way to make saying "NO" less uncomfortable is to say it in a way that is suited to your personality. Time to break down four main personality types for SKY girls and the best way to say "NO" for each of them.

This is a SK Y girl who is…

True blue and boss, too. A capable and reliable chic who is focused on a brilliant future. The world is not ready. You are a Blue SKY if you:

Hold yourself to high standards.

You are reserved in nature but can be funny! Sometimes, it takes a while for others to get your humour because it's on the dark side or flavoured with sarcasm.

Are a dependable friend.

You'll probably keep many of your high school friends even after you finish. You are in control of yourself. You're obsessed with making the best use of your time and resources.

You are often given many responsibilities because you're trusted and can handle them. Your good name at school or within your family is a source of pride.

Blue SK Y refusal style is…

Direct but kind. If “no” sounds too harsh for you, try something that feels softer. “Hey, not to be rude, but doing that isn't something I want for myself. I’m good, thanks” or “I don't think it’s for me. It’s just not my thing” are some options. Or if you can commit to only part of something, try “I can't do the entire thing, but I can help with a specific part.”

ORANGE SKY

This is a SK Y girl who is…

…the fiery girlie of the sistahood :) You have a lot of energy, courage, and charisma, plus your friends admire you! You are an Orange SKY if you:

Should have Vibrant as your middle name. Have a big personality and the will to make a big impact. Have a lot of energy and look for physically-charged activities that get you excited.

Are charismatic, confident, a natural leader, and competitive.

Have a big heart.

Personality

Orange SK Y refusal style is…

Warm and courageous. Not really ready to say "no"? No problem. You can build your courage through courage-giving introductions. These are words or phrases that a person can practice saying before they come out and say 'no.' For example: "This is really hard for me to say, but I have to be honest ..." or "I know this may offend or upset you, but the reason I can't is …" These intros help build the courage to give your reason.

16

PINKPersonalitySKY

This is a SK Y girl who is…

Pink and sweet! Your personality is fun, spontaneous, and cheerful! You love a challenge, so you always have the best stories. You are a Pink SKY if you:

Are sensitive. But those who know you will soon learn you are strong, too. Take your time with friendships to build trust.

Are trustworthy and good at keeping secrets. Have a vibe of being cuddly, sincere, and sweet.

Create a little family of friends at school in which to feel safe.

Are nurturing, and that caring makes you a good listener to friends or even a parent.

PINK SK Y refusal style is…

Patient and soft. The truth is bad news will always be bad news, but when it's said with consideration, it can be better. That's where your softness shines. You can say thanks before declining. For example, if you are turning down an invitation, you might want to say something like, “Thanks for thinking of me, but I won’t be able to attend.”

SILVER SKY

Personality

This is a SK Y girl who is…

…a chill sister! Always cool, calm, and collected. You are super-independent and very creative, such a vibe! You are a Silver SKY if you:

Are naturally chill and love to laugh a lot and uplift the mood with your friends.

Are an opinion leader. You know how to motivate your pals without trying too hard. Are able to encourage others.

Have contagious confidence, which means people feel like they can be their best selves around you.

Silver SKY refusal style is…

Relaxed and clever. Sometimes, you might feel like you have to immediately say “yes” to a request when you are put on the spot. If you find yourself there, the best thing to do is to be your creative self and make light of the situation. For example, you could say, “Heh! So that my mum finds out and puts me up for adoption? No thanks. Lol!” A laugh will help you get out of saying yes to something that is not for you. You can say no with humour, but still be clear that it’s a no for you.

IYKYK:

Fun Facts about Africa

Africa for the win Africa is the blueprint

Here are some fun facts about African countries I bet you didn’t know

Zambia's Birthplace of Walking Safaris

We don’t always have to talk about the Victoria Falls (even if it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world - the only one in Africa), or our emeralds being among the best in the world! If you're an adventure seeker, Zambia is the birthplace of walking safaris. Before this, people used to go in jeeps or other cars. But Zambia said ‘No, I want to be closer to nature.’ And now we hold the title of the first country to have a walking safari.

Cameroon's Goliath Frog

Cameroon is home to the Goliath Frog, the largest frog species on Earth. The Goliath Frog is a whopping 3.2kg. Imagine walking outside and seeing one?! I’d be so scared.

Tanzania's Medusa Lake

Picture a lake turning into stone! In Tanzania, Lake Natron's unique alkaline properties transform animals that meet the water into sculptures. This happens because of the high salt and ph of the water. A lot of people want statues of themselves but not actually become statues.

Nollywood: A Giant in African Film

Nollywood, Nigeria's thriving film industry, has taken the cinematic world by storm. Nollywood is ranked as the second largest film industry in the world. Taking Africa to the world! We see you Nollywood.

Kenya: Pioneer of Mobile Money Transfers

Kenya earned its place in technological history by being the first country to embrace mobile money transfers. Their app M-pesa started it all. And now almost the whole world followed after them.

Africa's Rich Beyond Measure

Beneath its diverse landscapes and cultures, Africa stands as the wealthiest continent on Earth when it comes to natural resources. From gold to wildlife, Africa is balling in them. She’s basically the aunty rich-rich of natural resources.

Senegal's Rosy Water: The Only Pink Lake

Ever heard of a pink lake? Well, Senegal holds the only one in Africa! Lake Retba, also known as Lac Rose, gets its lovely pink hue from high salt content and a particular type of algae. Ok, just imagine the types of pictures you’d take by the lake. They’d look stunning!

Morocco: Home to the Oldest University Ever

Morocco proudly holds the Guinness World Record for having the oldest university ever established. The University of Al Quaraouiyine which was founded in 859 AD is still up and running today. It is the oldest degree- operating university to ever exist. 1164 years old and counting.

Benin, the Land of Twins

Benin has so many twins that it holds the Guinness World Record for the highest rate of twinning in the world. The country was even given the nick, "The Nation of Twins".

South Africa's Three Capital Cities

South Africa defies the norm with not one, not two, but three capital cities – Pretoria, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein. The three all hold different branches of government. Pretoria is the administrative capital, Cape Town is the legislative capital, and Bloemfontein is the judicial capital. South Africa really said why have one when you can have three.

18

FOMO:

Hey girlies! Let's talk about FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and how it's making us feel like we gotta change ourselves to fit in with the latest social media trends. It's like all our feeds are filled with perfect pics and Insta stories of people doing amazing things, and it can make us feel like we need to be ‘cooler’ to keep up.

We get it, sis! It's so easy to feel the pressure to change who we are just to fit in. Whether it's wearing certain clothes, trying a new makeup look, or even changing our personalities to match what's popular, we're always chasing the next big thing. But here's the deal: the most important thing is to stay true to yourself. You're awesome, just the way you are, and you don't need to change to be accepted (yes they are song lyrics, but it’s true!).

Pause for a moment sis. It's crucial to remember that our worth isn't determined by the events we attend or our possessions. It's about embracing individuality and staying true to our values, passions, and financial boundaries. Real friends will understand and respect that, and the experiences worth having will come without compromising who you are. Remember that episode of ‘Becoming That Girl’ when Sophie Chapeshamano said that she chooses which events to attend based on her priorities? Yep that’s what you can do too (watch the full episode on our Youtube Channel if you missed it!)

DON'T LET SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS CHANGE YOU

Social media can be a highlight reel of everyone's best moments, but it's only part of the full story. Behind the scenes, behind the filters, everyone has their own struggles and insecurities. So, instead of comparing ourselves to others, let's celebrate what makes us unique.

Embrace your quirks, your individual style, and your own path. That's what makes you stand out from the crowd and what makes you awesome. It sounds hard to believe, but trust me sis, standing out is what makes you special!

It's time to redefine FOMO. Instead of fearing what we might miss out on, let's focus on the incredible things that make us who we are. The experiences we truly connect with, the friendships that lift us up, and the moments that align with our values are the ones that matter most. Let's reshape FOMO into JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) – finding joy in prioritizing our authenticity and making choices that align with our genuine selves.

So, to all the fantastic girls out there, let's stand strong in our authenticity. Embrace your uniqueness, pursue experiences that resonate with your true self, and remember that the right people will appreciate you for who you are, not for trying to be someone you're not.

Let's make staying true to ourselves the most significant trend in a world of trends.

So, I stumbled upon this competition on Instagram, and ever since I joined SKY Girls, I've been dreaming of getting into the magazine. So, I thought, why not give it a shot? While I was waiting for SKY to announce the winners, I was a bundle of nerves and excitement! I kept refreshing the socials like crazy. And when they finally announced it, oh my gosh, I was over the moon! I felt so grateful to God for making my dream come true!

There's this song, "Perfect Peace" by Sondae that just pumps me up and makes me feel unstoppable whenever I listen to it. Five things that make me feel lakaa are listening to music, eating, dancing, going to church and spending time with my friends.

My experience with SKY was absolutely incredible! Everyone was super nice and welcoming, and I even made some awesome new friends. And let me tell you, I was totally feeling myself with my hair and outfit on point! It was just the best!

So, my mom actually told me about this competition and encouraged me to give it a shot. I mean, I've never been on a magazine cover before, so why not, right? The only tricky part was making the video because my mom was helping me out. Don't get me wrong, she's my best friend, but you know how it goes when you're doing something with your mom!

While I was waiting for the winners to be announced, I was constantly checking the post to see who got the most likes. At one point, I started losing hope because things weren't looking too great. But then, when I got out of school, I saw my mom waiting outside for me with the most amazing news I had won! I was over the moon, it was like my first big achievement of 2024! I couldn't wait to tell my dad and brag about it to all my friends. There's this song, "Who Says" by Selena Gomez that just speaks to me and makes me feel so confident. Five things that make me feel lakaa are watching movies, food, listening to music, going out with my family, friends and SKY Girls.

My experience with SKY was seriously epic! From the makeup to the food to the outfits it was all so on point! I had such a blast and I'm totally down to do it all over again!

When I found out I won, oh my gosh, I was beyond thrilled and excited!

There's this one song, "Nezenlele" by Princess Natasha Chansa that just pumps me up and makes me feel on top of the world whenever I listen to it. Five things that make me feel lakaa are eating, modeling, dancing, going to church and going out with my friends.

My SKY experience was amazing! I loved the makeup, the music, and the photoshoot! It was all so awesome! Everything was just so lit I loved every bit of it!

Smoking is Not Our Thing

Hey lovelies It’s time to tackle some common misconceptions about smoking and apparently ‘tobacco free’ products With so much information out there it s easy to get confused But fear not We got you and we’re here to set the record straight and empower you with the facts you need to make informed decisions

Can smoking help me chill and de stress?

Fact: Nah. Smoking actually amps up your heart rate and blood pressure, doing the exact opposite of calming you down. If you want to de-stress try working out, meditation, hanging with friends, listening to music or making something.

Is chewing tobacco or nsunko a safer bet than smoking

Fact: Hold up, fam! “Smokeless” tobacco might not send smoke straight to your lungs, but they’re no joke either. It's packed with nasty chemicals that can mess up your mouth and gums. And don't even get us started on how addictive it is. Once you're hooked, it's a struggle to quit. So, let's squash that idea that it's a "safe" option. When it comes to tobacco, there is no safe option.

Will smoking every once in a while hurt me

Fact: Sorry to burst your bubble, but even a few hits can spell trouble. Each puff is a hit of chemicals that can mess with your lungs, heart, and more. It doesn’t matter, even once can still do serious damage.

Is vaping a chill way to kick the habit

Fact: Vaping is not without risks sis. Those vape pens are packed with nicotine, which can mess with your brain and even mess up your lungs in the long run. And don't even get me started on those horror stories about lung injuries from vaping. Doja Cat had to quit vaping because it was the cause of a tonsil infection that required surgery. It's not worth the risk, fam vaping is seriously addictive.

22

Is secondhand smoke as bad as puffing yourself

Fact: Saht buttah! Breathing in someone else's smoke is just as nasty and can mess up your lungs, heart, and more, not to mention make you smell horrible and mess up the condition of your hair! So if you're around smokers, do yourself a favor and step away from the cloud.

Does smoking make you look fly and sophisticated

Fact: Nah, smoking ain't the key to being cool. Smoking can wreck your smile - your teeth will look hella yellow, age your skin, dry out your hair, and leave you smelling like an ashtray. Plus, it's a total drain on your bank account and your health. So let's keep it real! You look fly when you don’t smoke.

While nicotine itself isn't directly causing mental health issues, some studies have found some pretty concerning connections between vaping, nicotine, and making our mental health not-so-great. Yep, it's a bit scary.

Is shisha a safer alternative to cigarette smoking

Fact: Let's get real about hookah, 'cause there's some serious stuff you need to know. The charcoal they use to heat up that hookah tobacco? It pumps a lot of Carbon Monoxide (CO). And here's another myth-buster: that water in the hookah ain't doing squat to filter out the nasty stuff in the smoke. It might make the smoke feel smoother, but it's just tricking you into taking bigger, deeper hits, holding that toxic tobacco smoke in your lungs longer. Talk about upping the harm factor!

NoMoreTobacco SmokeFree

Lots of people choose to be smoke free including over SKY girls

As we hype up World No Tobacco Day, let's pledge to smash these myths and drop some truth bombs about smoking and smokeless junk. When we educate ourselves and make smart choices, we're not just looking out for our own health, we're inspiring others to do the same.

So remember, you've got the juice to say nah to tobacco and heck yeah to a healthier, smoke-free life.

Breaking Stigmas: Teens, Minds, and a New Narrative

Hey SKY Girls

Life as a teen can be like juggling different personalities or serving many masters Your parents want one thing teachers another and friends siblings cousins aunts uncles and grandparents each have their expectations In managing all these demands you might lose yourself but remember what you think and want are the most important things in this equation As you grow and move through different life phases new expectations arise That s why it s crucial to start checking in on our minds now

Breaking the Stigma The Power Conversations

So, mental health—what's it about? People use the term a lot these days. Mental health might sound heavy, but I’m here to make it as normal and relatable as your favourite playlist. Some days are filled with happy tunes like 'Mnike,' 'Iplan,' and your favourite Amapiano beats. Other days, Sza's 'Nobody Gets Me' plays, and sometimes it's a mashup or just vibes, and that's okay. As a teen, you're juggling school work and friendship drama, it’s all a balancing act; on top of that, you're trying to figure out who you are. Mental health plays a significant role in our journey. Let's acknowledge it, talk about it, and make it as normal as chatting about your favourite music. No wahala, right?

Real Talk Tips to Manage Stress

Journaling or Drawing: Grab a journal and draw some pictures or emojis! Write down how you're feeling. It's like having a conversation with yourself.

Dance / Music Breaks: When stress knocks on the door, turn up the music and dance like nobody's watching. Music and dance are like a secret language your body understands. It shakes off stress and fills you with good vibes.

The Power of 'No': Know your limits. It's okay to say 'no' when you feel overwhelmed. Prioritise your well-being and take a break when you need it.

Talk it Out: Find your go-to people. Friends, family, or even a trusted teacher. Sharing what's on your mind is like removing the clutter from your mental space.

Tech Detox: Take a break from the digital world. Social media can be fun, but too much of it can be overwhelming. Unplug and breathe.

Have you noticed how a simple ‘Howzit!’ or ‘Uli Che?’ can open up a whole conversation? Mental health talks are like that too. Reach out to your friends, share your feelings, and create a space where everyone feels heard because we all have days when we need extra strength and support.

You're a Mental Health Ninja!

Mental health isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign that you're aware, strong, and ready to conquer whatever comes your way. Embrace the journey, the ups, the downs, and everything in between. Let's be mental health ninjas, breaking down walls and creating a world where we talk about what's going on in our minds as easily as we chat about our favourite things. Remember, you're not alone, and your feelings matter. So, let's keep the conversation going, lift each other up, and be the heroes of our mental health story.

Stay awesome!

One last tip, if you're feeling overwhelmed and nothing is helping, speak to your school counsellor or teacher and get a professional to help you.

llith

Hey SKY girls zed familia my name's Llith and I'm here to tell you a story. Once upon a time, in the land of work and joy was a very exciting Easter weekend. I lived in Livingstone for a while, and had never been to the Devil's Pool. This boy I really liked was going to Victoria falls one weekend and invited me over with his friends. I can't swim for starters, but the infatuated voice in me kept telling me I should do it otherwise he won't think I'm cool. When the weekend came, I had to make a choice. Say no to going with the cool kids, or go and possibly drown lol. Cowards live longer so they say, and so I said No, I couldn't risk my life. I watched Titanic just to remind myself that water bodies are very dangerous. My friends called me lame and other names, but standing up for myself is the coolest thing I can ever do.

SKY Stories: Staying True To Myself

Back in boarding school, my friends wanted to skip class and go hang out somewhere off-campus. Even though I really liked them, I knew it wasn’t the right choice for me. So, I politely declined and stayed in class. It wasn’t easy, but I felt proud of myself for sticking to what I believed was right. And you know what? They respected my decision in the end. It taught me that staying true to yourself, even when it’s tough, is super important. It doesn’t matter whether they agree or not as long as it’s healthy for you, you have the right to make your own choices.

Felistus M Katwamba

February 2023 was one of my early days in college; I was only 17 years old and learning to live in a new, different environment without my parents. Because I never used to go to boarding school, it was tough for me to cope with college life. As cliché as it may sound, I struggled very much to find the right kind of people that I should hang off with; everyone I saw was either into going out or liked boys too much(not one boy, for that matter) or didn't like learning very much, finding my place was more complicated than getting cotton inside the eye of a needle.

A month went by, and the only person I managed to make my close friend was a guy who was my classmate; he was from Copperbelt and used to encourage me to not be like others because I am unique and intelligent, truth be told, I overcame peer pressure even before I was a victim by avoiding it just like they say "prevention is better than cure", I am glad to mention that instead of being peer pressured into doing bad things, I encouraged some of my classmates to get good grades and join after class activities provided by the college. With my SKY wristband always on my wrist, I continued remembering the fact that I should stay true to myself and what I believe in, which is doing my best to make my family and my future self proud; I also go by the saying, "do what you have to(work hard) to do what you want in future (go for vacations and chill).

ruthy

Hello there. My name is Ruth Lombe, and I have been a SKY girl since 2022. My things are baking, cooking, and academic excellence. Not my thing is negativity, bad peers and bad-mouthing others. So here's a short story of mine. Last year, I was in the 9th grade. So I was really playful at the beginning of 2023, but it clicked to me that last term was finishing, and I needed to study harder. So I used to like being on social media, you know, these things like insta and Whatsapp Shani Shani ya. So the thing is, social media was bringing my grades down. I would usually get somewhere around 470. My aim was 540. So, one day, my parents talked to me, telling me that if I did not improve my grades, I'd fail gradually and be taken to a boarding school. So I started being serious and shut off from being regularly active on social media. I started being serious with my books, and in the end, I got 518. I really thank God and my parents for the guidance I needed to excel.

Give me advice about school because it stresses me out

SKY Girl No matter how stressful school becomes, you always have to remember to slow down and take a breath. Relaxing, even for a day, can be a huge stress reliever as it stimulates and refreshes your mind. And just remember that it'll be all worth it in the end.

@kenzie

SKY Big Sistah Absolutely, babe! It's not just about what happens; it's how you handle it. Keep that end goal in sight, break tasks into bite-sized bits, surround yourself with good vibes and positive people, never hesitate to ask for help, and most importantly, take those well-deserved breaks.

Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq

How do you ignore people that were once close to you

SKY Girl Hello. I feel slowly starting to give the other person a little distance and not be afraid when doing it because you know it’s for the best. Eventually the other person will get the hint and you won’t even be close anymore. There still won’t be any bad blood between each other.

@hopemakina

SKY Girl You can let them know you're busy or ask them to wait for you to finish. Then, excuse yourself and move out of sight. Eventually, they'll stop trying and the bond will naturally fade.

@chemical_ice

SKY Big Sistah Instead of ignoring, stay true to yourself. Focus on what matters to you and let your authenticity shine. When you prioritize your path, you won't need to ignore anyone; you'll naturally attract those who appreciate the real you.

Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq

Should I trust my old friend group even after they betrayed me

SKY Girl Sweetheart, you need to understand that going back to things that hurt you isn't the way. You deserve better. Know your worth, my love.

@simplyyanji

SKY Girl When faced with betrayal by friends, acknowledge your feelings, evaluate the situation, communicate openly, set boundaries, give it time, and trust your instincts. Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting, but rather letting go of negative emotions and moving forward in a healthy way.

@elie

SKY Big Sistah Listen to that gut feeling. Your intuition is your BFF! If it whispers 'move on,' trust it. If it hints 'give another chance,' do it with eyes wide open. Be ready to dip if needed. Your peace matters.

Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq

How to politely cut off some bad influence

SKY Girl It's okay to say no without feeling guilty. You can also have a conversation with them to make them understand that they're not the type of friends you need, so creating some distance is a good solution.

@mary

SKY Girl politely tell them that you need some time to reflect on new things and that requires you to stop hanging out with them.

@yanjanani phiri

SKY Big Sistah Honestly, saying no is your superpower! Have a heart-to-heart, let them know that you're taking some time for self-reflection, and it's time for a little distance. Your growth comes first!

Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq

What does healthy friendship look like

SKY Girl Where you can open up to each other and tell each other honest stuff. When you encourage each other to draw near to God and encourage each other to be the best of who you can be.

@sasha

SKY Girl A healthy friendship is one where love and happiness are the most important things that matter. One that does not have friends secretly competing to be better than the other, but instead they should be too happy to see each other reach the sky.

@hopemakina

SKY Big Sistah Healthy friendships are built on honesty keeping it real, even when the truth isn't easy. It's about being yourself, quirks, and all, wanting the best for each other, supporting each other through thick and thin. In the good and the bad, you've got each other's backs, speaking truth with love.
