What is SKY?

BODY Beautiful

Care

for d skin ifferen t type s!

Did you know that the largest organ of the human body is the SKIN? We all want to have “perfect skin” but what is perfect skin when we have so many different skin types? But all skin is PERFECT. Loving our skin for what it is, is very important because it’s part of what makes us who we are. It is our responsibility to take care of it so that it can be in its healthiest state. We asked some of our SKY sisters to share tips of how they take care of their different skin types:

Lentle Moloi, 18 (smooth skin) SKY: What products do you use?

SKY: What do you think about make-up?

LM: I mostly use baby products for my skin, such as baby oil. I also use Vaseline on my face. This is mostly because baby products are very mild and make my skin feel great!

LM: I wear it once in a while, not every day. I am comfortable with and without makeup. SKY: Which season do you feel is the best for your skin?

SKY: What have you learned about your skin?

LM: SUMMER!

LM: I always have to apply sunscreen on my face. I use sunscreen during all seasons because I have soft skin and sunscreen helps to keep it soft and smooth.

SKY: What changes have you noticed with your skin over your teen years?

SKY: What advice would you give your 13-year-old self? LM: Drink lots of water. Water helps to keep your skin looking and feeling fresh. Another thing to do is to avoid trying out different skin products. I remember I once tried out a fancy (and expensive) face product and my skin broke out. So no matter what it is, you always have to stick to what works for you.

LM: Every time I had hairstyles or braids that covered my forehead, I would get pimples. I have to use clean water to wash my face or this will cause my face to break out. Sometimes travelling to a different place/ country can cause my skin to break out too. SKY: What is your skincare routine, if you have one? LM: I wash my face twice a day (mornings and evenings), I always apply sunscreen. Also in the evening, I use an after-sun cream because we all know how hot Botswana is!

It’s impossible to hum while holding your nose

7 Lala Makwapa, 19 (rough skin) SKY: What products do you use? LM: I have rough skin with pimples and black spots so I currently use PortiaM products.

LM: I do my eyebrows almost every day but I don’t wear a full face of makeup all the time. I also make sure that I use makeup remover on days when I have worn it.

SKY: What have you learned about your skin? LM: That I have to be kind to my skin. I have to be patient with my skin and have a routine that works for me.

SKY: Which season do you feel is the best for your skin? LM: WINTER- My skin reacts to the heat so winter is the best.

SKY: What advice would you give to your 13-year-old self? LM: Loving your skin is a process and you learn how to take care of it every day. Always remember that nothing is constant and your skin will continue to change over time. ALSO I would tell myself please use Sunlight bar because it is mild and that is needed for your skin. SKY: What do you think of make-up?

SKY: What changes have you noticed with your skin over your teen years? LM: Sometimes my skin is smooth and then it would become rough and then smooth again. SKY: What is your skincare routine if you have one? LM: I make my own face masks which help my skin to feel smooth.

Ruri, 16 (oily skin) SKY: What products do you use? R: I use Rooibos products but mainly the wash cream and face cream for both night and day. I also apply sunscreen daily. SKY: What have you learned about your skin? R: My skin is oily and I avoid using oily face products by all means. SKY: What advice would you give to your 13-year-old self? R: Don’t use any harsh products on your face because they will cause more harm than good.

SKY: What do you think about make-up? R: I prefer keeping a natural face and applying makeup once in a while because I think makeup on a daily basis is not good for my face. SKY: Which season do you feel is the best for your skin? R: Winter is the best because I don't sweat a lot and my face doesn't get oily much, which makes my face very smooth. SKY: What changes have you noticed with your skin over your teen years? R: I used to have a smooth face with no pimples, but because of puberty I developed an oily skin and pimples. This is what happens and it is okay. Now my skin is a lot better because of the products I use. SKY: What is your skincare routine if you have one? R: My daily routine is making sure I wash my face twice a day and apply my creams and sunscreen, but once in a while I use a face mask.

SKY Fashion

We know how tricky it can be styling different things across seasons. Some pieces can be intimidating or confusing to try and wear all year round. But we also never want to wear clothes for just a few months at a time kana ga ngwehela hela. Re sure ka re-using and re-vamping our clothes! We went around town and got most of our main pieces from Mr. Price, Cotton On, and Chinese stores. Very useful when working on a tight budget. In this feature, we’re bringing you 1 graphic tee styled for four seasons. Aa go mariga, kana go selemo, we got you! Don’t be afraid to wear what makes you feel and look good babes!

The cold is melting away and we are excited at the prospect of swimming, ice cream and fun in the sun! We want our fashion to re ect this happy feeling too. We have our cute little shirt put together with a black pleated skirt, yellow socks and cream-white sneakers with a light green bag. This outfit could be great for a day at the park or going on an ice cream date.

Starting with the hottest season of the year, we feature our cool T-shirt paired with some simple dark blue denim shorts, as well as a yellow and brown toned headwrap for some pattern, and cream-colored chunky sandals to create a simple Afro-chic look. his fit is perfect for a hot day running errands around town, or a little picnic. If o le shapo ka go sha maoto, you can pair this look with cute boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans. If you want to make this look even cooler, there are a couple of things you can do to spice up the outfit! You can take the sleeves and fold them up. You can also tie the bottom of the shirt (kind of like a bun) to turn it into a crop top

Not too hot, not too cold, this season can leave you stumped when it comes to what to wear. Fear not! We got you. The best way to style for autumn is to have a short-sleeved top and then throw a light jacket kana cardigan-nyana that you can wear on top when the cool breeze starts to bother you. We decided to pair our lovely light-yellow shirt with a green, white and black annel button up, blue boyfriend jeans and chunky black boots. hen for an extra edge we threw in some cool silver jewellery and voila! A whole grunge look and a half. This season can be very inconsistent, especially mo Botswana. Thank God it’s not the longest season here. To avoid being caught on the wrong side of mother nature’s mood swings, check the weather report before you leave the house. Not to mention pulling sock sleeves.

We paired the shirt with some grey sweatpants and a bright white pu er jacket. We also threw on an orange bandana to give it a little spice. Add a pair of drippy sneakers plus a chain or two and we’ve got some serious swag! Not to mention the black handbag and a pair of coloured 2000s shades. And if you still think you will be chilly, you can wear tights and a polo neck under the sweatpants and the shirt. It’s giving streetstyle! If the polo neck is a bright color that can be found on the shirt, it can really elevate the look. Feel free to swap sweatpants for jeans or the pu er jacket for a coat.

13 The cover stars of this issue of SKY Magazine are the one and only KhoiSan: the talented, fresh and vibey voices behind a string of hits such as Mpoledise, Sethubege, Sananapo, Marabele, and of course the SKY Anthem! With a sound that is difficult to categorise but so easy to enjoy, the duet have captured our hearts and our ears. Here we speak to KhoiSan’s members, Oratile and Thabang, to get the scoop on all things KhoiSan. Enjoy!

SKY: Hi guys! Please give us a background on yourselves and your upbringing?

SKY: Wow, OK! So in your music career so far, what are you most proud of and why?

Oratile: Ke Oratile Kofa, I’m 21, from Tonota. I am one of 2 children, I and my brother. Ke tsene ko Ledumang SSS, and Ba Isago studying Real Estate.

Oratile: We signed as teens and I think we have achieved so much since then, performing at international stages, South Africa radio tours, we also worked closely with afikeng F and so on. I think we’ve grown so much—from learning how to hold a mic to how to use our voices. We’ve grown in connecting with our music and our voices in a spiritual sense.

Thabang: My name is Thabang Rasefako, I’m 25 and I’m from Ramotswa. I have 4 siblings—3 brothers and a sister. I schooled at Tsholofelo Primary, then JSS at Dithejwane Junior ko Molepolole and senior school ko Kgari Sechele gone ko Moleps. SKY: Awesome, and please tell us what you were like when you were 15 years old? Thabang: I was a soccer player hehe. Oratile: I was very reserved and many thought I was a little shy, but I valued the relationships I had with almost everyone around me and it really helped me grow emotionally and mentally. Gape I was very picky about the people I let in my little circle. SKY: Sweet. So, how was the band formed? Thabang: We knew each other way back, like in 2014. I was in senior school and Oratile was in junior school. I knew her through my sister and we became friends. Then in 2018 there was an audition ad on Facebook calling on vocalists. Initially there were three people shortlisted to make the band but we ended up with it just being the two of us. SKY: Nice, it was meant to be! And what is the origin of the name KhoiSan?

Thabang: I agree. People hear me speak and see what I wear and they assume I come from a wealthy background, but that’s not the case. I’m like the black sheep in my family, literally. We defy the odds. We’re still here 3 years in and we are still on fire. We’re the first duo from otswana to be invited to perform at the Vic Falls carnival. We’ve broken so many records, I think people should be afraid. SKY: Amazing. Your song lyrics contain a lot of deep Setswana, is it important to you to sing in Setswana and if so, why? Oratile: It is. That’s what our band, our movement is about. We want Setswana to be loved and respected. There’s a whole lot of talent that people can come over here to explore. We can’t go out there and sing in Zulu - that wouldn’t represent us. Also, there are Zulu people out there doing their thing in their own language so why should we copy them when we can be us? Thabang: Re Batswana mme ga re tlhaloganye puo ya rona. We want people to realise that our language is special. There can be a whole meaningful song and people will go back to try to find out what it means because re bua etswana sa borre. Also, we try to understand what our audience loves to hear, and the feedback has been really good.

Oratile: KhoiSan is not just a group, it’s also a movement—a way of life. This is a 2-word phrase—the Khoi and the San – the natives of our land. We wanted to represent the origin of our people and make our music re ect our authenticity.

get from your audience. The power you have as someone with a voice, don’t let it get to your head. It’s about knowing yourself right from the start and making sure you stay true to that person. Oratile: Good advice! I’d say before you start anything that is your passion, you should also have goals. Don’t forget why you started. Remember why you started to keep yourself grounded. O seka wa letlella dilo tse di diragalang in the industry to take over your life, to overpower you, to be taken by the wind. Remember where you come from and where you’re going. Music is my escape, it gives me peace, so I wouldn’t allow anything to ruin the one thing that brings me peace. I make sure I stay true to myself and what I’ve always wanted to achieve. SKY: Wow! That was great thank you both. How do you stay true to yourself, personally? SKY: A mafoko a ma ntle. So what is your favourite thing about working in the music industry?

Oratile: I never go against my values and I never forget why I started doing what I’m doing.

Oratile: It doesn’t limit your creativity. It gives you room for growth. You become open, you get to learn, you get to grow.

Thabang: I guess like I said earlier, I stay true to myself and my Sures and Shapos. I focus on what’s most important, and I think in the context of my life that is success, consistency and discipline.

Thabang: The travelling—there are so many places that I got to visit. I didn’t even know what Maun looked like. It’s been a dream, since I was a little boy. What I’m experiencing right now like standing in front of 5000 people holding a mic and making money out of it– I’m living the life I’ve always wanted to. SKY: So cool! And your least favourite thing? Thabang: The sleepless nights and the pressure. Keeping up with everything. Oratile: The sleepless nights for me too. And also having to harness your creativity on command so you can communicate with any crowd. ecause di erent events have di erent crowds that you need to control di erently. SKY: Mmh, that sounds tough. OK, if you could collaborate with any musician ever, who would be your dream? Oratile: I would honestly love to have another song with Han-C, something I would call a re-match. He’s a very talented being with no limit to his creativity. SKY: We want to hear that song! What would your advice be to any SKY Girl out there who is looking to enter the music industry as a performer? Thabang: Working in music has 3 elements—the passion for the music itself, the business (how the money is made and where it goes), and the wider industry. Do your research. Get a mentor. It is a fast life here; you’ll have to be smart. You gotta have the right discipline, the right motivation, and the right mind. Don’t get swallowed up by the excitement seeing your face in a billboard, on TV, by the attention you

SKY: What advice would you give a SKY Girl who is experiencing peer pressure? Oratile: We all have goals and values and it’s very important we prioritise them. If you know how to get to where you want to be in life, make sure nothing gets in between you, your happiness, your peace and success. So if you feel any negative pressure that’s not going to help you grow, Just say KE SHAPO! Thabang: I think it goes in line with being sure about the things you wanna do. Peer pressure is a real thing, it’s true, but I think it starts with you understanding gore o batla go tsamaya yang pele and being sure man! Kana having knowledge of what you want to do also cements your stand in it wa bona? Nna Sure. SKY: Amazing advice once again. On a lighter note, what is your favourite song of all time? Oratile: Chronixx – Cool As The Breeze (even when I feel sad, this is the one song that picks me up. I love the lyrics.) Thabang: ota I don’t have a specific song but I do have an all-time favourite album, which is by Bryson Tiller. The album is called Trapsoul. SKY: And finally, what is your favourite KhoiSan song? Oratile: ananapo, because that was the first song that helped us express ourselves with no limits. Thabang: There’s this new song that’s coming, eish!! Stay tuned.

SKY’s essential guide to chasing your dreams and avoiding distractions This issue of SKY Magazine features a number of people who have achieved amazing things at a young age. What we love about these people is that they’re not competing with each other and chasing the same goal. They’re going for their OWN dream, and they’re ‘slaying in their own lane.’ So SKY Girl, what is your dream? What does ‘greatness’ look like to you? And most importantly, how can you map out that path to greatness and walk towards it confidently, avoiding the wrong turns and distractions along the way? We’re here to help.

1. Creating your path

he first step to choosing your path is to think about the person you want to be in years’ time. What does she do for work, for studies, for fun? Is she an adventurer, travelling and trying new things, or is her life centred around her home, family and friends? oth options are equally valid. ust remember this person is not a stranger, she is ! o your job right now, as a teenage girl, is to maximise the chances of this woman existing in the form you are picturing her. ou can take steps right now today to make sure she not only exists, but also exists as the best possible version of herself.

- Make a vision board

sing cut out images from newspapers, maga ines or printed out from the internet, build a vision board for yourself. Add writing, drawings and doodles too, to explain the images. If you don’t have access to printed images, draw your dreams yourself! emember, we’re not using photos to compare ourselves to others it’s not realistic or healthy to use a photo of a beautiful woman and say I want to look like her’. ather, choose images that represent the vibes you want to cultivate in your life is it peace, family, academic achievement, financial success? Feel free to cut out some of our inspirational quotes from page !

- Establish your Sures & Shapos

y this point you surely know that stands for ure a one’ and hapo a one’. eing a Girl means defining what you love (your ures) and what you don’t want in your life (your hapos). he reason it’s important to define those things is because it is easy to be swayed to do things you weren’t planning on doing, if you don’t define your plan in the first place! o if you haven’t already, make sure you take the ledge (inbox us on any of our socials, or look out for us at an event near you!). our ures and hapos are personal to you, and you will never be judged for your choices. efining your personal ures and hapos lays out the path to success ahead of you. y doing this, you know what you’re walking towards and what you will avoid if it tries to distract or derail you.

2. Walking your path

nce you have a vision of the life you want and you know your ures and hapos, the next step is to walk towards it! o do this, we need to add some specifics of how you will get there, and how you will stay focused. emember, this is a lifelong process life is a journey so it’s if your path twists and turns, and it’s also for you to redefine your vision if it’s not working for you. o what feels right to you.

Your skin has 1000 different species of bacteria on it

17 - Use mind mapping and SMART goals

ind mapping is a great tool for studying (see our study tips on page for more!), but it can also be super helpful for planning your life. heck out this example, w h e r e someone has planned their by dividing their life into various sections such as money, mind, health etc. ry this for yourself write your name in the middle and categorise the main elements of your life around it. ou might want to include things like friendship, money, academics, mental health, and physical health. After that, write your specific goals for each one. emember goals should be A pecific, easurable, Achievable, elevant, and ime ound.

- Practice mindfulness

indfulness basically means being aware of your emotions and how they are a ecting you in the present moment. ost people go through life reacting to things in emotional ways, often making the situation worse. It’s a difficult but important skill to take a step back and think about what you are feeling and why. For example, if you have to retake exams but you are angry and considering giving up on school, a mindful approach would be to think to yourself I just have low energy today and I am disappointed in myself for not getting the grades I wanted. I need to forgive myself, let myself rest and come back to these exams next month.’ he key is to separate your feelings from the issue. ther techniques that help with mindfulness include prayer or meditation, journaling, exercising or stretching, positive affirmations, and focusing on the vision board you made in the first step.

3. Avoiding wrong turns

nce you have done the above steps, you will be walking confidently on your path to greatness. ou know where you’re going, and how. ut that doesn’t mean you won’t occasionally be distracted by people and things that threaten to pull you away from your path. hat’s because everyone’s path is di erent. Imagine if you are dating a boy who knows his future lies in his home town, but your vision is to travel far and wide. ou might compromise and miss out on ama ing opportunities to achieve your own goals. o it’s important to recognise when people (often accidentally) sway you from your own path.

- Learn to use the word ‘no’

As women, we are taught from a young age that we should say yes’ to any request. ut guess what? hat’s a lie society tells itself. All women have the right to say no’ to things they don’t want to do. Angel Warona Lebaleng, 18 BAC Undergraduate course: ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), funded by DTEF Catch Angel on SKY Live every Saturday on RB2 as your new presenter

Closing the chapter of your early school years and looking into the future can be scary. But o ska wara, with lots of planning and tips from 2 of our SKY big sisters who are currently in university, the process can be made much easier! Choosing What to Study Angel: I always knew I was a numbers and math kind of person, but a lot of research contributed to the choice of accounting. I reached out to some course advisors from different institutions for guidance, they advised me on a personal level looking at my results, what I’m good at, and what I love. A few tours around the schools helped me know more about the environment there. Believe me, the environment contributes a lot to your mental health which in turn reflects into your academics.

Do some research and get informed about the field you wanna get into. But don’t try to follow your friends, stay true to yourself. Atang: For every school I applied to, I made sure to go through the course curriculum to find out what was going to be taught, the methods of assessment, and most importantly the electives on offer, to ensure they were in alignment with my ultimate goals. I also took into account the location of the schools and the professional networks and opportunities I would be exposed to if I were to study there. SKY: Choosing a course can seem daunting since it can feel like it determines what you’ll be for the rest of your life. But this isn’t always the case. Sometimes people change their minds after the first semester, during their second year, or

even later in life, and that’s OK. Do some research and get informed about the field you wanna get into. But don’t try to follow your friends, stay true to yourself. Budgeting Angel: My budget always includes stationery and one novel every month, to help improve my vocabulary. Apart from school stuff, then it’s feminine toiletries and some updates to my wardrobe. There’s also some money I take to my savings. Atang: Some essentials in my budget include groceries, my mobile phone bill, transport and Spotify. SKY: You’ll have to start providing for yourself for things like food, accommodation, transport, hygiene products, school supplies, hair, and entertainment. If you have a laid-out budget and list of essentials, you can better manage your expenses. You can also find ways to earn money by braiding hair on campus, finding a part-time job, selling baked goods and so on. You can even try collaborate with friends and start a small business. University Checklist Angel: Stationery is important (don’t buy from campus bookstores, they are usually expensive). If you’ll be an on-campus student, all your luggage must be there together with your personal items. Most importantly bring your Bible with you if you have one, or any other religious book and/or objects that you use daily.

Sometimes there is no syllabus – it’s up to you to utilise your critical thinking skills and develop well thought-out arguments that you can back up. You’re free, and actually encouraged, to colour outside the lines. University is the time for you to showcase how your brain works - individuality of thought is celebrated. Atang: My checklist would include a laptop (preferably a small or medium sized one for portability), things that remind me of home, for example photos and food, and of course a positive and open mind! SKY: Since most kids move from their homes to university or college, you’ll need your bedding, clothes, kitchen supplies/utensils, toiletries, and your school supplies such as notebooks and textbooks (you don’t have to buy new books for every class, you can buy used ones or borrow from the library). If you’re studying abroad, don’t pack too much. Contact international student services at the school and ask them to connect you with other international students there who will advise you on what you may need to bring with you.

Have fun, explore and fully immerse yourself in the experience, but also stay grounded in who you are and don’t feel the need to fit in. University Culture Shock Angel: I expected university to be extraordinarily fun, something out of a movie, like the life of the teenagers in Grown-ish. But it’s different. It requires you to have a strong support system, to be disciplined and to be able to be consistent in who you are. All this you take day by day, in small steps. It can be overwhelming and intimidating at first, but you’ll find your way. Atang: What shocked me is that the lecturer will give you a reading list, but they won’t tell you what’s actually relevant.

SKY: Don’t be afraid to ask. It’s OK not knowing things, this is your chance to learn and grow. Get yourself a mentor in your department, someone in a higher class that you can count on to assist you with questions you may have about your courses and student life in general. This is only the beginning. Take it one day at a time, stay disciplined, stay true to yourself, and you’ll do just fine. Advice to SKY Girls Preparing for University Angel: Everyone says don’t lose yourself, but they don’t tell you how. There are so many temptations in Uni, but you must be consistent in all you do, find yourself good friends, if you have had good friends from high school, don’t lose them. They are part of your support system. Keep in touch with your family, be honest with them about your studies. Find an activity that helps you relax after a long day, your mental health matters too. Atang: University is usually where most people experience “freedom” for the first time and don’t have to tell anyone where they’re going, or with who. That can be exciting, but never lose sight of why you’re there in the first place, and the reality that it is temporary. Have fun, explore and fully immerse yourself in the experience, but also stay grounded in who you are and don’t feel the need to fit in. A good way to do this is by surrounding yourself with like-minded people who share your values. Have a plan and set tangible goals. Don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself. SKY: There are lots of unsupervised teenagers out of home for the first time that may start trying new things. This can create amazing life experiences, but it can negatively affect some students who don’t know their Sures and Shapos and can’t say no peer pressure. So make sure you know what you are willing to try and what you will say no to, before you go. Most of all, stay true and enjoy it!

Maintaining academic focus during holidays

Even the most studious of us out there can struggle when the holidays come round. Maybe you’re travelling and you can’t take all your study materials with you, maybe you have family events to attend that will take up your time, or maybe you’re just looking forward to some relaxing ‘me-time’ where you don’t think about school for a bit. And that’s great, because it’s important to switch off for a bit to let your mind rest.

Lez Rathed

But, when school holidays are 2 weeks or longer, you might find yourself back at school and realise you’ve forgotten a lot of what you learned, and you’ve fallen behind with your academic goals. So, we asked a young lady who achieved 48 points to give us her advice on how to keep working towards greatness even through the holidays! We hope this is helpful!

i

SURE KA: heal thy friendship s, self-care, inde pendence SHAPO KA: to xic habits, self-sabotage, peer pressure

The significance of studying beforehand

This is known as distributed practice and she's *that girl*. I know it's a bit of a cliche for your teachers to tell you to revise during the holidays but trust me you'll be saving yourself in the long run. To practice this you'll need to segment your study into a time-frame, let's say 6 months before exams. If you do this you'll have enough time to truly learn and apply content as opposed to that last minute "did you study?" ka bo 6 maphakela. Which could cost you your ideal career and lifestyle in the case of grade 12 exams!

Managing your time

This is the ultimate test of disclipline in my opinion. There is a technique called the ‘Pomodoro Technique’ you could try. This is for my girlies who can not for the life of them concentrate for long periods of time. Essentially, Pomodoro involves studying for 25 minutes with 5-minute breaks in between across a period of about 3 hours. Those 5 minutes are meant for you to grab a snack or gather yourself if you're overwhelmed (not for you to scroll on your seemingly never-ending fyp). We all fall victim to the hands of Twitter and TikTok every once in a while. I suggest making time to have fun but allocating even more time to do your work. Set yourself a deadline such as ‘5pm to finish your Biology Studies’, after that you can freely go on social media. All in all, I feel it is important to highlight that it is not a crime to take a break or to check on your friends during this period. Things can get overwhelming, especially towards your finals, and as such one should not neglect having a healthy school/life balance.

How to organise your Study Material

My number 1 tip is to apply SQ4R; Survey, Question, Read, Relate, Record, Review. Put simply, this involves skimming through your notes, turning titles and headings to questions, answering questions as you read, connecting information to additional resources, doing a past paper, and finally, skimming over the content again.

You could also use this time to create a mind map. Similar to the mind map we displayed on page 7, choose the topic of the mind map and place it in the middle of the drawing. Then come up with three to five main ideas (or even more!) and evenly space them in a circular formation around the mind map topic. Similar to the mind mapping we displayed on page 7, but this one strictly for your studies. Choose the topic of the mind map and place it in the middle Draw a line from the mind map topic to each main idea. Brainstorm supporting details such as ideas, tasks, and questions for each main idea and lastly draw lines connecting each main idea to its supporting details. I also want to emphasise 'past papers' as these are the holy grail of form five. Gosh, not only do you learn exactly how questions are structured but you learn exactly how to answer questions in the manner examiners want. And between you and me questions tend to repeat themselves soo? Gorgeous gorgeous girls should notice such patterns and take note of them. It’s a good idea to set yourself one past paper per week during the holidays, preferably in a subject you find difficult (don’t just focus on the subjects you enjoy!). Another technique you could try is the Feynman technique, this just means understanding the content to a point where you can simplify it and basically explain it to your youngest sibling whether they are 6 or 10 years old. During the holidays, you might be spending time with your younger family members, so see if you can explain concepts to them in a way they can understand. It’s proven that teaching helps learning, so this is a great way to boost your grades. Plus, you’re helping the little ones too!

Staying mentally focused

I believe studying is a bit easier when you romanticise your life. What do I mean by that? I mean by finding joy in being productive by rewarding yourself for your discipline, and seeing studying as less of a chore but more of something that you are doing to add value to yourself and the quality of your life. Basically, the goal is to be an *it girl* and it girls know that education is a top priority. What's most important is to stay focused. Never lose sight of the end goal which is your success. Ask yourself how you want to be described in articles. What you want to see when you look in the mirror. What you want to represent. Remind yourself that it'll all be worth it and that whatever turmoil or trauma you may experience does not define you. A more practical approach to this could be creating a vision board; create a collage of your ideal university, travel destinations, cars, houses etc. and if you can, print that and hang it somewhere you can see it every day, or paste it in your journal which I suggest you get for daily use.

Tshepo Jamillah Moyo Sure ka: women who believe in themselves, food that fills the soul, books that make me feel important

Tshepo Jamillah Moyo, AKA TJ, is an intersectional feminist, human rights defender

Shapo ka: TV, body shaming, anyone that makes me feel small

autonomy for women, girls and other marginalised groups. She is best known for her

SKY: Hi TJ, we appreciate the work that you do for girls and women. Please tell us, how is the activist and human rights landscape in Botswana? TJ: Botswana is a complicated space. On one hand it’s considered a good place to be and live because we do have a lot of policies that protect women or make us seem equal. However, the truth is a lot of the change that has to happen is more behavioural. Which means we have to change people’s minds about things like whether women can lead, or what rape looks like. SKY: Interesting, and what made you interested in this line of work? What change do you want to see in the world?

I want to see a world where being a woman doesn’t limit your options in life.

and the author of Becoming. Through policy advocacy, performing arts and public speaking engagements, she puts a lens on critical issues around equal rights and work in the I Wear What I Want campaign. TJ: Growing up I was always the loud girl who didn’t do what was expected of girls. I didn’t want to be the “well-behaved woman”. I didn’t want to be told what being a girl looked like. I guess I got into this work because I wanted other girls to define what womanhood or girlhood looked like for themselves. SKY: That’s interesting. Re sure ka your confidence at such a young age. What are some of the challenges you have faced in your journey? TJ: The nature of human rights advocacy work is that you will always be on the opposite side of most conversations. Your job is to challenge what people find acceptable. This means that you will often be isolated as you rub some people the wrong way to stand up for your rights and those of others. So, it has been a lonely journey but also rewarding. SKY: And we thank you for all your hard work. How would you describe the ultimate boss babe? TJ: A boss babe prioritises herself, her health and her life. She has a good work-life balance and she’s able to comfortably care for those she loves and herself. She also pays those who work for her fairly and lives with integrity. SKY: We love that. Which woman or boss babe do you look up to or admire and why?

It would only take 1 hour to drive to space

TJ: There are many women but my mother is one. She’s always been the sort of person who chases her dreams. I’m also a huge fan of Stella Nyanzi. She’s a radical African activist who is not afraid to stand up for herself and her people. SKY: Gotta go Google ‘Stella’ real quick haha. How do you stay true to yourself? TJ: I am my authentic self because I’m too lazy to be anyone else. I’m too lazy to lie and pretend and keep up an act. It’s so much easier to be myself. To be real with myself. SKY: What keeps you motivated to remain in your field? TJ: The thought that although I may not be able to reap the benefits in my lifetime, one day there will be a young Motswana whose life will be better because of my work today. SKY: That’s lovely and selfless. Such a boss babe indeed. What message would you want to share with young girls who are interested in your line of work? TJ: In my line of work there are two things you must remember. The first is that you must forever be learning and unlearning. The second is that you must be brave enough to be forever questioning the status quo. Ask questions. Ask difficult questions! It’s the only way to find what works.

Natasha Siku Sure ka: strong work ethic, money, success Shapo ka: smoking, lies, laziness Natasha Siku is a boss babe who founded the restaurant Wing It On in Broadhurst, Gaborone (check out our SKY Girls review on page 30 of this issue!). She is also the founder of the social enterprise Opportunities Without Borders, which connects Batswana to sporting opportunities in the USA.

SKY: Hi Natasha! Please tell us about yourself and how Wing It On came about. Natasha: I am first and foremost an athlete. I have been playing both lawn tennis and netball from a young age. As a tennis player I was able to get a scholarship to the U.S. where I lived for 5 years while studying for a degree in Communications. During my time there I discovered how varied their approach to food was, specifically wings which I absolutely love. So in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and sports were paused, I found myself with lots of spare time and decided to experiment with the different wing flavours I had tried there. It started off as just a small side thing and has since grown to now employ 10 people. SKY: That is such an amazing story. When some of us were binging Netflix and making TikToks wena you were out here starting a business! Shuu! What are some of the challenges you have faced in your boss babe journey? Natasha: As a woman I have had to work 10 times hard as men just to earn my spot. I also have had to think ahead at all times. One of the other challenges I am constantly facing is finding the right team to drive my vision while concurrently helping them achieve their dreams as well. SKY: Yah neh! Ba re it’s a man’s world kana gatweng! What do you want to achieve next with your business? Natasha: I want Wing It On to be the first female 100% citizen owned franchise company in Botswana. I also want to open more branches nationwide. SKY: We love that! Any tips for SKY Girls trying to start and grow a company? Natasha: Have a good work ethic and be assertive. You should have a clear vision of what you want to achieve which will guide you. Consistently put in the work and be intentional about your business. SKY: You clearly live by your advice. What comes to your mind when someone says ‘boss babe’?

Natasha:

A boss babe to me is someone who is unapologetic about who they are and what they want. They are confident and assertive. SKY: Which woman or boss babe do you admire the most? Natasha: All the working women around me inspire me. But specifically Tapiwa Marobela— she is an exceptional Motswana tennis female player who won multiple awards and even secured a scholarship because of it. She inspired me as a fellow tennis player with not just her work ethic but how far the sport could take you. She now works for the International Tennis Federation and is the first female Motswana to work there. SKY: We love learning about all these inspirational Batswana women bossing up in international spaces. What keeps you motivated to keep going every day? Natasha: Helping others be successful and achieve their dreams. The fear of being average and the changes I would like to see in Botswana keep me going every day. SKY: How do you make sure you make choices that are true to yourself? Natasha:

I stay true to myself by listening to my unconscious, remembering that it is okay to be selfish and to say no, and that everything has its own time. SKY: What message would you want to share with young girls who are interested in being a boss babe like you? Natasha: Everything is within reach; nothing is too far fetched.

Wabie Blues Sure ka: music, empowering adolescent girls and women, movies Shapo ka: junk food, Gender Based Violence, peer pressure Wabie Blues is the founder and director of MmaBotswana, a platform she created to empower young Batswana creatives to share their talents across the nation. As a creative herself, she draws, writes, plaits hair, dances and she designs clothes, some using recycled materials!

SKY: WOW!! You TRULY do it all!! Tell us, what comes to mind when you hear the term “boss babe”? Wabie: Thank you! Well, to me, being a boss babe is about being confident and being able to stand up for yourself. It’s about leading people to a noble path and earning respect from others and yourself as well. SKY: That’s a great perspective! You mentioned standing up for yourself, how do you ensure that you make choices that are true to you? Wabie: As a woman, I have decided to always make decisions I won’t regret, love myself more, to be happy and to learn self-control. SKY: Is there any defining moment that truly pushed you to stay true to yourself and not be swayed by others? Wabie: I remember after my first business accomplishment in fashion, I was 21 and broke at the time; some well-known rich man offered to sponsor my business with P50,000 in exchange for sex. He had it ALL in cash and I was tempted. But I thought of all my hard work, the sweat, tears & late nights working non-stop to prove myself… and I instantly felt insulted by his offer! I told him to lose my number & walked straight out of his office.

It was on that day that I felt so brave, powerful and in control. SKY: WOW! That’s so scary but inspiring… So, what motivates you to remain in your field in the face of all this? Wabie: Knowing that I deserve the title & knowing my worth. I also know that I am fighting for something bigger than myself, as I created MmaBotswana for the youth. I keep elevating myself to help the next person achieve their goals. And I remind myself that other people admire me for who *I* am and what *I* am about, which encourages me to continue to be true to myself. SKY: What inspired you to use your fashion design skills to tackle environmental change in Botswana? Wabie: It was easy for me to use fashion & create garments with waste materials in order to make a bold statement because fashion challenges me to be more creative & it’s close to my heart. This inspired me to tell a story that will help restore the ecosystem & heal the environment from the toxicity of litter that lies around, constantly producing harmful chemicals that hinder plants from growing.

An 11-year-old invented Popsicle by mistake

SKY: What are some personal choices you have had to make to stay on top of your boss babe game? Wabie: As a creative, especially as a dancer, I don’t allow any toxic substance in my body. I don’t drink or smoke because this can really affect your body’s capabilities. This way, I make sure I always feel fresh and energetic, which fuels my overall confidence and positivity. SKY: What would you like to achieve next? Wabie: My dream is to see my platform MmaBotswana creating more safe spaces for the girl child & empowering more of the youth to go for their dreams. SKY: Aww… do you have a message for any SKY Girls who are interested in pursuing their dreams and being a boss babe just like you? Wabie: Yes. Always shine with confidence, follow your dreams, work hard, be kind and humble, know your worth & take up space. Always make wise decisions, be a person of value and inspire others to accomplish greater things. SKY: AMAZING!! Thank you so much for chatting with us Wabie!

Chantel Tisha Ben Sure ka: dancing, smiling and spreading love and positivity Shapo ka: nuts & mangoes (I’m

allergic!!), smoking and betrayal

Chantel Tisha Ben is a former SKY Girls Magazine covergirl who is currently taking the creative industry by storm!! She’s the founder and CEO of FiDance Academy, a YouTuber and content creator, an accountant, a dancer and a video editor.

SKY: Our SKY Big Sista!! Now that you’ve been out in the “grown-up” world, how do you make sure you still make choices that are true to you? Chantel: I prefer to always think things through. I ask myself, “Chantel, think about the conseSKYuences that might come out of this decision, are you really making the right choice?” I don’t like being pressured to choose right then & there. I’d rather take a moment to breathe first and that has really helped me a lot. And if I am REALLY not sure about something, I’d rather ask my friends because I trust them a lot. SKY: So, what actually inspires you to stick to this and keep choosing yourself daily? Chantel: I believe in writing down your goals. I have my goals written down and every morning I wake up and tell myself, “You have to at least achieve one goal or achieve something that is going to push you towards reaching that goal”. I want to see myself somewhere and I want to live comfortably and inspire a lot of people. My goals are my number one inspiration.

SKY: What does being a boss babe mean to you? Chantel: To me, a boss babe is someone with goals. You need to know what you want in life and then go for it. You also need to stay confident and true to yourself, because that shows people that you know what you’re doing! If you’re confused about yourself, people will be confused about you too. Knowing yourself is extremely important. SKY: FOCUSED GIRLS WORLDWIIIIIDE!!! Yes!! But have you faced any challenges in your own boss babe journey? Chantel: As a young female entrepreneur, I get a lot of clients that are older than me. Some clients don’t see me as a business woman, they just see a woman, and they don’t give me the respect I deserve. I have also had many male clients who pretend they want to work with me, but they actually had funny intentions!! This is where staying true to myself comes in: I had to stand my ground. SKY: What personal choices have you had to make to succeed in your boss babe journey?

Chantel: I have had to reduce the time I spend with my friends, which I don’t necessarily enjoy. I also had to sacrifice my time with my family so I could really focus on working towards my goals. I’ve also had to cut down on sleep, since I am working multiple jobs at once. I had to stop being doubtful of myself because it was slowing down my growth. Some people ask me how do I manage to do it all and truthfully? I just woke up one day and I told myself I could do it. SKY: Okay then!! What do you want to achieve next? Chantel: Right now, my main focus is building my dance academy. And any SKY Girls are welcome to join us!! Just message the “FiDance Academy” page on Facebook, or hit us up @fidance_academy on Instagram or @fidanceacademy TikTok!! SKY: RE WITHIIIIIIN!!!!! Before we go, do you have a message you want to share with any SKY Girls who are interested in bossing like you? Chantel: Young girl, know your worth. If you know your worth, you won’t let anything or anybody block you from achieving your goals. SKY: AMEN SISI!!! Thank you so much for the chat, big sis! Chantel: Thank you for having me… Once a SKY Girl, always a SKY Girl <3

Angie Amba Sure ka: kittens, vegetables and working out Shapo ka: beef, long hair and drugs Angie Amba is a ballet, contemporary and hip-hop dancer, a choreographer, yoga instructor and a second-year physiotherapy student. She teaches dance classes and trains young dancers, and she’s the founder and creative mind behind “Art Heals”. SKY: Hi Angie! You founded “Art Heals”, please tell us about that?

Angie: Art Heals is a healing and inspirational platform where art therapy takes place through all forms of art, with dance being at the core. It’s a moment to lay down all the burdens, pains and fears we each have and feel the breeze.

SKY: Incredible! What inspired you to create

SKY: We’re so glad to hear that you’re doing

Art Heals?

better! How do you feel art can impact the current status of teens’ mental health in Botswana?

Angie: At first, I just wanted to choreograph my own dance show, but it soon became more than just about showcasing. It became about the concept of bringing people together to share love and passion with the hope that the broken will be healed, as the past years have been too hard on everyone.

Angie: I think mental breakdowns often occur when we are alone and our thoughts overpower us and magnify themselves.

The beauty of art is that it brings us together where we can share ideas, skills, knowledge, love.

SKY: How has art healed your own mental health?

Angie: I had been stressed and probably depressed from 2019, with constant overthinking and anxiety. These started in the brain, and soon affected my body. I developed ulcers. I couldn’t eat what I used to or wear what I used to because of the sores in my belly, I lost weight and stressed even more. Then I had the first Art Heals show in December 2020 and I noticed I had regained weight and let go of all my worries and greatest fears because for the first time I learnt what my purpose was. It was art that truly saved me because the joy and fulfillment I got from dancing and bringing creative talents together overpowered any other negative emotion I was feeling.

We feel involved and not alone because art builds communities and we create new family through it.

SKY: Can teens girls participate in your Art Heals movement? Angie: Yes! Art Heals is expanding itself this year and growing from being a dance show to create safe spaces for individuals to express and share. Everyone can definitely participate in the Art Heals movement by messaging us on the Instagram or Facebook pages “@art_heals_platform” and “Art Heals”.

SKY: What are some personal choices you make to stay girlbossing, especially in the physical arts?

Angie: I make sure I take care of my body. I eat brown rice and avoid too much starch. I rarely eat beef, I am a sucker for vegetables and fruits. I don’t smoke or do anything that could harm my body because I love myself and I need my body to access my art forms.

SKY: Do you have a message you want to share with any SKY Girls who are interested in healing their mental and overall health through their art, like you are doing?

Angie: To all the young girls, I used to be timid, shy and I lacked confidence. But like a butterfly, I came out of my shell because I realised that it was upon me to make a change for myself. Art is a friend to us, so find out what makes you happy, what you are into, what your talents are, and where your passion lies. That is the art that will heal you.

SKY: Wow… Brilliant. Amazing. Profound. Thank you so much for talking to us Angie!

My shero, (whom I’ll always refer to as my superwoman and favourite person in my life) without a doubt in my mind is my mother. Mrs Tiyo Galetshajwe Tibe (as formally known) is a registered nurse and a certified midwife by profession. She has a Bachelor of education - nursing. With a master of science in epidemiology and is currently studying for her second master being of education majoring in counselling and human services aspiring to do her PhD. She has worked in different areas from towns to villages: a greater part of her life teaching nurses/nursing. She is very passionate about national and community issues concerning both women and adolescents. To me, my mum is my shero because she has and continues to work hard and wholeheartedly for what she is passionate about, even when life throws hurdles and difficulties. She carries herself with humility and grace. A light to not just myself but many. Touching the world and those around her with her best smile, her kindness, compassion and love. I just started high school and I wanted to tell you all about something crazy that happened last week at school. y first day of school was mid. ost people were nice and they showed me around. I made a few friends but it was nothing special. n the second day of school, I started base lessons. his also meant I was finally meeting my new classmates. As I walked into the half full classroom in the morning, nerves shook my bones. I took a deep breath and pushed on. I managed to get acquainted with everyone except the popular group . omething in their ga e left me on edge, as if it communicated animosity. I decided to avoid them and keep it moving. hemistry started and I knew I was in for a walk in the park because I did it at my last school and aced it. y teacher, rs shan, asked us a few questions about the topic we were discussing. nowing the answers, I raised my hand to respond, but a supposed rival was making herself known.

Enele, the ueen bee of the cool kids, was a young lady who had obvious beauty and came from wealth. ut the brains she possessed shocked me because most of the time empty vessels make the most noise. It slowly turned into a showdown, with nele and I eventually being the only ones answering the questions. The tension crackled in the air as I turned around and we both glared into each other’s eyes with our arms raised as high as possible, staring each other down. rs shan seemed ustered, not knowing who to pick between the two of us. I am certain I was not the only one who felt the intense energy in the air.

To be frank, I loved every second of the little game it all turned it to. It was a serious confidence boost. nbeknownst to me, being my true, intelligent, fabulous self, had painted a neon pink target on my back. After that lesson ended, I went for usiness tudies, and then break time. I walked into the cafeteria knowing in the back of my mind that I was to spend this time alone as I hadn’t invested in any friendships. I got some food and searched for a table to sit at. Just as I picked up my fork, I got a prickling feeling in the nape of my neck someone was staring at me. nele and her friends were pointing and laughing at me because I was sitting alone. ahaha look at her sitting all alone and miserable looking. he is so lame, she exclaimed loudy. veryone looked at me and the sound of laughter erupted, filling the large hall. Feeling embarrassed, I ran to the bathroom where I spent most of my break time listening to music. I know it sounds pathetic but I was low key vibing enjoying my self date. I knew that this incident marked the beginning of me vengefully butting heads with her.

The world’s longest concert lasted for 453 hours

The following two days were the same, with nele and her band of merry friends harassing me even though she barely knew me. oon news of an upcoming scavenger hunt reached my ears. It was to be done in groups. I was concerned about not having a group, but luckily a chill bunch picked me. I was quite hyped about this since it was my first scavenger hunt, but everybody else seemed so bored and exasperated. Friday rolled around and we got our treasure list. he most fun part about this was that we were looking for items throughout the whole neighborhood. It was almost time to start the game when ‘the popular squad’ approached my group and sneered ay the best team win! Feeling like another challenge I clapped back, I have a proposal for you. If my team wins then you have to stop this little obsession you have with me and stop bothering me, but if your team wins then I’ll leave your class and you won’t have to see me again. omething like fear ickered on her face brie y but she reached out and we shook on it, eager to assert dominance over our opponent. The game began and we went our separate ways.

At some point we were looking for a big teddy bear and I ran into nele and found that she had the bear. I tried to grab it from her but she had the grip of a gorilla. As we were both struggling for our pri e another group member pulled it from the both of us. he momentum we had been building caused us to collide. rashing heads. verything slowed down in that moment. y heart was beating fast, magic palpable in the air. As we bumped heads, a bright light formed between us and exploded. We passed out. When I regained consciousness I was very disoriented. y limbs felt heavy and my head, light. h no! o! o! my own head screamed. I looked at her and it hit me W WI I !!! I said screamingly in shock. We ga ed at each other for a while, wide eyed and disconcerted.

Why did this happened? How did it happen? Why us?

There were so many questions. I looked at nele, or should I say my body, and it felt surreal, looking at myself like that. ike I was staring at myself from someone else’s perspective. ike a dream. nele also thought my body was weird, commenting on my fashion sense and height among other things. I would have slapped her if it didn’t mean hitting myself. There was so much going on and it was kinda funny but simultaneously crazy. Our main worry was how we were going to get back to our bodies and how we were going to survive being in each other’s bodies because we couldn’t just swap lives. We had no choice but to stick together until our bodies switched back. I took a deep breath as we began walking together. he rest of the scavenger hunt we talked about ourselves. ur hopes our dreams, my old school, her family. urns out we had a lot more in common than I expected and she was actually a kind person. he was really funny too. he says she was mean because she was intimidated by me. he thought embarrassing me would make me less social to people and she would still be popular. illy high school politics got to her head and apologi ed and I decided to forgive her.

At the end of the game we became friends. As we were about to part, our parents waiting for us in the parking lot, worry was obvious in our eyes, I looked at her and smiled regardless. We leaned in to give each other a hug. As we did, something beautiful crackled in the air. omething I can only describe as love energy. As we brie y held each other, something like that felt like gold washed over us. As I pulled away and saw her, it was not my body I was looking at anymore. I was looking at nele. I felt like myself too. I looked down to see my own fingers wiggling and nearly jumped for joy, a smile gracing my face.

What a day this was!

Self-care isn’t about expensive manicures or spa days (although we wouldn’t mind some of those!). Self-care is about taking the time to consider your feelings and your needs, to ensure that you’re looking after yourself. Being kind and caring for others is a good thing, but if you push your own needs aside too much, you can end up feeling unhappy, unhealthy and disconnected. Take this quiz to find out if you need to spend a little extra time and effort choosing YOU! 1. a) b)

c)

At school, one of your friends seems a little quiet. What do you do? Ask if she is OK, and tell her I’m here if she needs to talk Take her to one side and encourage her to open up to me about her problems – I’m worried about her I don’t want to pressure her if she doesn’t want to talk about it

2. When you are feeling exhausted, sick, or sad, what do you do? a) I just rest, I will feel better eventually b) I try to ignore it and continue with life, I don’t want to be a burden c) I ask for help from my friends and family, that will help me get better quicker 3. How much time during a week do you get to spend doing exactly what you want to do? a) Usually at least 2 days in a week I do whatever I want b) Hmm… almost never, I always seem to be busy! c) I spend a lot of time on my hobbies, it’s important to make time for things I enjoy 4. Do you proactively spend time on self-care? a) Sometimes, here and there - I don’t really plan it though b) I never seem to have time for self-care… c) Yes, I make sure to spend some time every week on self-care 5.

You are at a birthday party. There is one cupcake left, and it looks delicious... What do you do? a) Ask if anyone wants to split it with me b) Offer it to the birthday girl and insist she eats it, it’s her special day! c) Just take it – no one else is! Yum

6. Which one of these quotes resonates most with you? a) Life is all about balance b) We rise by lifting others c) Be enough for yourself first 7.

a) b) c)

After a stressful week, you were planning a movie date with yourself on a Friday night, but then you are asked to babysit your little cousin. What do you do? Spend the evening with my cousin and shift movie night to the next day Cancel my movie night – it wasn’t that important anyway Tell my family I already have plans and ask if someone else can babysit

8. Do you feel you can resist peer pressure? a) I know my Sures and Shapos, but sometimes I do get swayed by peer pressure b) I have done things before just because others are doing them, even if I didn’t want to c) I can always refuse something if I don’t want to do it. I just say ‘shapo ka yone’ 9. Do you find it easy to forgive yourself and others? a) It depends on the situation b) I can forgive other people easily, but I find it hard to forgive myself. I have a lot of self-doubt and regrets c) When I have a regret, I make sure to think about it and forgive myself 10. How many positive things can you think of, about yourself? a) Probably about 5… I would struggle to think of any more than that b) Sometimes people say nice things about me but I don’t believe them - I can’t think of many things, maybe just 1 or 2 c) I could go on for a long time… maybe forever. You are pretty good at balance your responsibilities to yourself and to others, but occasionally you can find that your own needs become overlooked entirely, if you forget to check in with yourself. If getting some time alone to recharge is too difficult, try to think about small ways to bring mindfulness into your day. It can be something as simple as practising meditation when you first wake up in the morning or taking a few minutes to meditate in the shower, just to top up your self-care routine. Also, remember to always reflect on your responsibilities. With just a little extra time spent focusing on yourself, we know you’ll do yourself proud.

You’re a warm-hearted, loving and generous person who always puts others first. Your friends and family definitely value the effort you put into making sure they are happy. But have you ever stopped to think it’s also important that YOU are happy and well looked-after? Treat yourself as kindly as you treat everyone else! Make sure to find a little time every day to meditate and just think about what you are feeling – are you happy, sad, excited, nervous, tired, disappointed, bored? All your feelings are valid, but you have to tune into those feelings in order to recognise if you are getting burn-out from always putting others first. Make sure to set some time aside for self-care routines like having a bubble bath, giving yourself a manicure, reading a book, or going out into nature. Whatever YOU want to do, boo! And next time someone asks you to do something you don’t want to do, take a minute before agreeing. If it’s not in line with your values, that’s fine girl, just politely say ‘shapo ka yone’ and trust us – they will respect you for it.

Girl, you are a self-care queen. You seem to have a lot of self-respect and knowledge about yourself. Those are great qualities. We bet that people are drawn to your positive confidence. Just remember that not everyone is the same as you. So please use your emotional intelligence to try and assess which of your friends might need a helping hand with their own self-care needs. After all, it’s important to look out for our besties. Give them compliments (they’re free!) to make them feel great about themselves, and share your tips on how you became so confident. Maybe all it will take is a little encouragement and they will blossom!
