project description

one part of this studio course project was to develop an autonomous intelligent transportation system in a team of two. The design was to develop in plan, section, and 3-Dimensions of the logical and theoretical strategy for the shell and interior Architecture. Each team and will develop their unique methodology and process to produce a clear and cogent design recommendation. In addition to the spatial organization and relationships, the design will be required to address the issues of performance, user experience message, identity and leading edge technology for the communication of ideas and learning. It is critical that the study exemplifies the notion of poetics and design theory. This project is to reflect the unique influence on the culture of social innovation.

Design Proposal: Fluidity When tasked with designing a bus, my group member and I had two issues that directly affected our design. One was making sure this vehicle could be used in a secondary way when it was ‘after hours’ and the second was that we wanted the furniture inside to be fluid to make more room for standing people if needed. This resulted in a panel system where the walls were segmented into panels that worked as chairs as well as doors. This is best explain in the diagram on the left page. The detail drawings on the left explain how the seats fold and how the doors can be opened. CHAIR SECTION DTL SCALE 1:8

Bus // Bar Sections Scale: 1/4 = 1’

Day Time Usage: Bus The drawings on this page show what the bus looks like when it is being used for transportation. As explained in the diagram a few pages back, each panel can open up as a door. So lets say someone is sitting but their stop is next, instead of having to walk to the designated exit that might be far from them, they can simply stand up, their chair will flip up and they can then open the door that was previously where they were sitting. This helps disabled or elderly people get off the bus quicker and easier. However, for the sake of organization, there still is only one entrance.

Night Time Usage: Pop Up Bar We wanted the bus to be used after house instead of having it go to a garage over night. The program we saw fit was for it to be an extension to an existing bar or late night restaurant. If a bar or restaurant owner needs more seating for an event or particular night of the week, they can rent out one of these buses for the night. Since all doors can open up, it will feel like a gathering space for customers. The drawings on this page showcase how it would appear ‘after hours.’
