SEIT SEPTEMBER 2018 WIRD NUN DIE VERWENDUNG VON PRODUKTEN AUS EINWEG-PLASTIK DRASTISCH REDUZIERT. «Strohhalm» im Deutschen, «straw» im Englischen, «cannuccia» im Italienischen und «paille» im Französischen – weltweit muss seit September 2018 explizit in den Hyatt-Hotels danach gefragt werden. Denn mit Blick auf Nachhaltigkeit und ein gelebtes Umweltbewusstsein hat die Hotelgruppe entschieden, für Einweg-Plastik kein Gastgeber mehr zu sein. Daher wird der Strohhalm ausquartiert, und auch bei den aus Plastik bestehenden Spiessern geht man auf Abstand.

Auf Nachfrage wird es natürlich umweltbewusste Alternativen geben, sofern vorhanden.

Als Gastgeber Verantwortung übernehmen «Der Verzicht auf Einweg-Plastik baut auf den ökologischen Nachhaltigkeitsprogrammen auf, die wir

«Pink-riBBonWochEn» im park Hyatt ZüriCH

ende oktober wurde wieder unter dem motto «eine welt oHne brustkrebs» die pink ribbon niGHt im park Hyatt ZüriCH Gefeiert. im Vorfeld fanden daZu ZaHlreiCHe aktionen im Hotel statt, die auf das wiCHtiGe tHema brustkrebs-früHerkennunG aufmerksam maCHten. text: sabrina kaiser-kossmayr seit vielen Jahren setzt sich pink ribbon schweiz für den kampf gegen brustkrebs ein und lädt unter anderem einmal im Jahr zur Benefiz-Gala ins Park Hyatt Zürich. eine gute Gelegenheit für das gesamte team des 5-sterne-Hotels, einen eigenen beitrag für dieses weltweit immens wichtige thema zu leisten. den gesamten oktober über trugen alle mitarbeiter die pink-ribbon-schleife. parallel wurden in der lobby lounge einfallsreiche Gerichte aus dem buch «in Great taste» serviert. autorin ist die weltweit bekannte kosmetik-königin evelyn H. lauder. als Gründerin der breast Cancer research foundation war sie es, die die weltweite pink-ribbon-bewegung in Gang setzte.

alles im ZeiCHen Von pink ribbon am nachmittag wurde zudem zum gemütlichen «pink ribbon afternoon tea at the park» geladen und in der onyx-bar mixten die barkeeper einen exklusiven drink passend zum thema. der Cocktail aus rosinen, randen, karotten, lakritze, erdbeeren und Hibiskus war nicht nur köstlich, sondern auch noch sehr vitaminreich. alle park Hyatt Zürich suiten-Gäste erhielten während dieser Zeit einen kostenlosen transfer in einem maserati, der mit dem logo „world wide awareness - pink ribbon“ die stadt Zürich befuhr. und am ende war es natürlich die grandiose pink ribbon night, welche als krönender abschluss die «pinkribbon-wochen» im Hotel unvergessen macht. 

«Pink riBBon WEEks» at park Hyatt ZuriCH

at tHe end of oCtober park Hyatt ZuriCH aGain Hosted tHe pink ribbon niGHt under tHe motto «a world witHout breast CanCer». numerous aCtiVities Had taken plaCe in tHe Hotel beforeHand to raise awareness for tHe important issue of tHe early deteCtion of breast CanCer. pink ribbon schweiz has been campaigning for the battle against breast cancer for a number of years; this includes hosting an annual benefit gala at Park Hyatt Zurich. the gala provides the perfect opportunity for the entire team working at the 5-star hotel to make their personal contribution to this hugely significant global issue. Throughout October all employees wore the pink ribbon bow. at the same time imaginative dishes from the book «in Great taste» were served in the lobby lounge. the author is the world famous cosmetics queen evelyn H. lauder. as founder of the breast Cancer research foundation, she was responsible for initiating the global pink ribbon movement.

pink ribbon takes Centre staGe in the afternoon guests were invited to the cozy «pink ribbon afternoon tea at the park» and in the onyx-bar the barkeepers mixed an exclusive drink in-keeping with the theme. the cocktail made of raisins, beetroot, carrots, liquorice, strawberries and hibiscus was not only delicious, but a veritable healthy and vitamin-rich. during this time, all park Hyatt Zurich suite guests, received a complimentary transfer in a maserati showcasing the pink ribbon emblem, while driving in the city of Zurich. and ultimately it was, of course, the magnificent Pink Ribbon night, which was the crowning glory and made the «pink ribbon weeks» in the hotel unforgettable. 

elche Erfahrungen in deinem persönlichen Umfeld haben dich motiviert, als Showact bei der Pink-Ribbon-Gala im Hyatt mitzuwirken?

In meinem Falle waren es nicht Erfahrungen aus meinem persönlichen Umfeld, die mich direkt betroffen haben, eher die Erfahrung, dass es nichts Schöneres gibt, als Menschen zu helfen. Uns geht es so gut, wir haben so viel – wenn es aufgeht und ich mich irgendwo für einen guten Zweck engagieren kann, mach ich das wirklich mehr als gerne. Pink Ribbon hatte in der Vergangenheit bereits einige Male für den Event angefragt, leider hatte es nie geklappt, da ich nie hier war. Es ist mir eine Ehre, dass es dieses Jahr endlich geklappt hat.

Warum ist es dir wichtig, dich für Charity-Projekte zu engagieren?

Mir ist bewusst, wie gut es mir geht, wie viel Glück ich in meinem Leben bisher hatte und dass das nicht selbstverständlich ist.

Ich weiss, dass das Leben teilweise böse Überraschungen planen und das Schicksal einem Steine in den Weg legen kann.

Gerade, wenn es um die Gesundheit geht.

Wenn man Menschen in diesen Lebenslagen unterstützen kann und ihnen egal wie, Mut machen kann, dann bin ich voll dabei.

Kurz vor der Pink Ribbon Night ist dein neues Album erschienen. Welche der 14 Songs auf deinem neuen Album haben textlich besonders gut zu diesem Abend gepasst und weshalb?

Ich denke der Song «Another Day» oder «All Around Us» passten ganz gut zu dem Abend, denke ich. Die Kernaussage ist bei beiden Tracks sehr positiv. «Another Day» soll, egal in welcher Lebenslage du gerade steckst, zeigen, dass egal wie schlecht dein Tag grad war, alles wieder besser wird.

Manchmal muss man sich durchbeissen, aber man soll nie vergessen positiv eingestellt zu bleiben. «All Around Us» soll ein Aufruf sein, die Schönheit auch in den dunkelsten Tagen zu sehen. Ich denke, wir neigen dazu, uns auf all die schlechten Nachrichten zu konzentrieren, dabei gibt es so viele positive Dinge, die jeden Tag

da draussen passieren. Ich möchte den Menschen helfen, sich zu erinnern, wie unglaublich Menschen sind und wie viel Liebe und Magie es in der Welt gibt. Es ist überall um uns herum, aber du musst danach suchen. Es ist ein Lied, das nach Liebe ruft und keinen Raum für Hass lässt, es ist ein Lied der Hoffnung.

«Bastian Baker» ist schon dein viertes Album. Aus welchen Gründen bezeichnest du es als dein zweites Debütalbum?

In Amerika zum Beispiel wird das Album ja wirklich mein Debüt. Aber ganz grundsätzlich ist die ganze Produktion des neuen Albums, die ganze Vorgehensweise, das Songwriting völlig anders, als bei seinen drei Vorgängern. Ausserdem habe ich mir viel mehr Zeit dafür gelassen und habe fast zwei Jahre daran gearbeitet. Ich wollte ohne Grenzen und Limits arbeiten, wollte neue Sounds ausprobieren, mit neuen Leuten zusammenarbeiten und einfach etwas Neues und Anderes erschaffen. Ich denke, das ist mir ganz gut gelungen, da dürften die einen und anderen überrascht gewesen sein beim ersten Mal durchhören. Das neue Album ist für mich eine Art neues Kapitel.

Du bist seit fünf Monaten mit Superstar Shania Twain auf Welttournee.

Welches waren deine eindrücklichsten Erfahrungen?

Die ganze Tour ist eine eindrückliche und unbeschreibliche Erfahrung. Der krasseste Moment war aber wohl der Anfang. Ich habe mir selber einen extremen Druck gemacht, ich wollte natürlich allen beweisen, dass die Entscheidung mich dabei zu haben, eine wirklich gute war, ist ja klar.

Die wichtigsten im Kreise zu überzeugen, ist mir wohl gelungen, aber ob das auch klappt, wusste ich anfangs nicht. Und ich versuche mir nach wie vor ein Riesenstück von Shanias Erfahrung abzuscheiden. Wie sie die Menge beziehungsweise ihre Fans jeden Abend aufs Neue begeistert, ist echt unheimlich beeindruckend.

Was hat dir an der Tour am besten gefallen? Gab es Lieblingsstädte?

Teil einer so grossen Produktion zu sein war und ist unbeschreiblich, das Tourleben ist schon etwas anders. Und mir haben Nashville, Montreal und Belfast super gefallen. Ich glaube einer meiner absoluten Highlights war das Konzert in Montreal. Es fand in der legendären Hockey-Arena «Bell Centre» statt. Und das Konzert in Nashville.

Jeder Musiker träumt davon mal in Nashville aufzutreten und ich stand da plötzlich auf der Bühne. Ein grossartiger Moment mit einer unglaublichen Stimmung.

Hast du schon musikalische Pläne, was du nach der Tour mit Shania Twain machen möchtest?

Weiter touren! Wir werden im Frühling noch eine Handvoll Konzerte spielen, bevor der Festivalsommer beginnt und im Herbst dann meine Headline Club-Tour startet.

Ein Song auf deinem Album heisst «Stage Fright». Gibt es Situationen in deinem beruflichen oder privaten Leben, in denen du Lampenfieber hast?

Absolut! Wenn ich nach einer Pause wieder auf der Bühne stehe, zittern anfangs auch meine Knie immer mal wieder. Aber so grundsätzlich fällt es mir teilweise einfacher 10‘000 Menschen auf einer Bühne zu unterhalten, als zum Beispiel jemanden anzusprechen, vor dem ich sehr grossen Respekt habe, oder jemanden, der mir gefällt. Es gibt ganz viele Momente, die auch mich im «normalen» Leben absolut überfordern.

Was geniesst du an einem Luxushotel wie dem Park Hyatt Zürich besonders?

Ich denke, wenn man lange unterwegs ist und keine eigenen vier Wände hat beziehungsweise kein Zuhause, dann ist die Aufmerksamkeit, die einem der Service schenkt, doch sehr schön. Das fühlt sich ein bisschen an wie zu Hause bei Mama.

Oft liegen die Hotels auch an Locations, die man sich als Normalsterblicher ja auch nicht unbedingt leisten kann. Mit Aussicht auf See, Meer, Fluss oder wahnsinnigen Perspektiven über die Stadt. Und meistens gibt’s da ja auch Spitzenköche. Und ich liebe, neben Mamas Cuisine, gutes Essen. 

hat personal experience motivated you to become the show act at the Pink Ribbon Gala at Park Hyatt Zurich?

In my case it was not direct personal experience but the sense that there is nothing better than being able to help others. Our lives are good; we have so much – if the chance arises and I can get involved in a good cause, I am more than happy to play a part. Pink Ribbon has asked me several times in the past to take part in the event, unfortunately it never worked out because I was never here. It is an honour for me that it finally happened this year.

Why is it important for you to get involved in charity projects?

I am fully aware how well my life is going, how much happiness I have experienced in my life to date and how that should not be taken for granted. I know that life can sometimes hold nasty surprises in store for us and that fate can present us with obstacles on our path. In particular with regards to our health. If I can support people at this stage in their life and give them courage in any form, then I am fully committed.

Your new album was released shortly before Pink Ribbon Night. Which of the 14 songs on your new album have texts that particularly suit this evening and why?

I think the songs «Another Day» and «All Around Us» are particularly suitable for the evening. The core message is very positive in both songs. «Another Day» should, regardless of your current life situation, show that, no matter how bad your day has been, everything turns around for the better. Sometimes the going can get tough but it is crucial to maintain a positive attitude. «All Around Us» should be a call to see beauty even in the darkest days. I think we tend to concentrate on all the bad news when there are so many positive things happening around us every day. I would

like to help people remember how unbelievable other human beings are and how much love and magic there is in the world. It is everywhere around us but you have to look for it. It is a song that calls for love and leaves no room for hate; it is a song of hope.

«Bastian Baker» you have already made your fourth album. Why do you refer to your second album as your debut album?

In America, for example, the album really is my debut. But basically the entire production of the new album, the complete approach, the song writing is completely different to its three predecessors. I also took a lot more time on this album and worked almost two years on it. I wanted to work without restrictions and limits, wanted to try out new sounds, work with new people and simply create something new and different. I think that I managed it quite well; it may surprise some people when they hear it for the first time. The new album is in a way a new chapter for me.

You have been on world tour with superstar Shania Twain for five months.

What have been your most lasting impressions?

The complete tour is an impressive and indescribable experience. The beginning was probably the most extreme moment. I put a lot of pressure on myself; of course I wanted to prove to everyone that the decision to have me on board was really good. I managed to convince the most important people involved but I did not know at the start whether that would work. And I am still trying to learn from Shania‘s vast experience. It is incredibly impressive how she can captivate the crowd of her fans every evening again and again.

What did you like most about the tour? Did you have favourite cities?

It was and is indescribable how special it is to be part of such a large production;

tour life is always a bit different. And I really liked Nashville, Montreal and Belfast.

I think one of my absolute highlights was the concert in Montreal. It was staged in the legendary hockey arena «Bell Centre». And the concert in Nashville. Every musician dreams of going on stage in Nashville and suddenly I was there. A fantastic moment with an unbelievable atmosphere.

Have you already made plans for what you want to do professionally after the tour with Shania Twain?

Go on tour again! In spring we are going to play a handful of concerts before the festival summer starts and then in autumn my Headline Club Tour begins.

One song on the album is called «Stage Fright». Are you ever in a situation in your professional or private life when you have stage fright?

Absolutely! When I stand on the stage again after a break, my knees get weak. But basically I find it easier to entertain 10,000 people on the stage than, for example, to speak to someone I have a great deal of respect for or someone I like. There are a lot of times in my «normal» life when things get too much for me.

What do you appreciate in particular about a luxury hotel such as Park Hyatt Zurich?

I think when you have been on the road for a long time and do not have your own four walls; the attention you get from the service offered can be very special.

It feels a bit like at home. The hotels are often at locations that most cannot necessarily afford. With a view of a lake, the sea, a river or breath-taking views of the city. And there are generally top chefs.

And if I can’t have my mum’s cooking, it is the next best thing. 

Während sich andere Marken teure Testimonials gönnen, ist bei der italienischen Schuh-Manufaktur Santoni der Inhaber Markenbotschafter Nummer 1. Was er anders, was er besser macht.

Giuseppe Santoni mag keine Masse. Und Neider mögen an dieser Stelle einwerfen, dass er mit seiner Körpergrösse darin auch untergehen würde. Doch was auch immer den Mann aus Mittelitalien antreibt, er liebt es exotisch und mondän.

Sparen ist laut eigenen Aussagen nicht sein Ding. Doch Geld gibt er nur aus, wenn sich das Angebot lohnt. Seltenheit, Qua-

lität und Passion sind Details, die er zu schätzen weiss. Kein Wunder also, dass es Autos und Uhren sind, die sein Herz schneller schlagen lassen. Respekt hat er vor allem, hinter dem Qualität und Leidenschaft steht. Und Menschen, die wie er Mittelmass nicht gelten lassen. Und genau das ist das Geheimnis hinter der seit über 40 Jahren erfolgreichen Marke Santoni. Bereits sein Vater Andrea wollte nicht einer unter vielen sein, sondern suchte und fand seinen eigenen Weg. Der Signor Senior war überzeugt, dass sich nur zeitloses Design in Kombination mit höchster Qualität dauerhaft durchsetzen würde. Vor allem in Zeiten, in denen industriell gefertigte Klebeschuhe aus Asien den Markt überschwemmten. Ebenso war Andrea Santoni klar, dass in seinem Heimatland Italien ausreichend Schuhmacher ihr Unwesen trieben, gute wie schlechte. So flog er Mitte der 1970erJahre nach Amerika. Im Gepäck: die erste Kollektion Schuhe, handgefertigt zusammen mit Ehefrau Rosa im eigenen Wohnzimmer und qualitativ überragend. Und sein Plan ging auf. Die amerikanischen Connaisseure rissen ihm die elegante, italienische Ware aus der Hand und mit der Zeit bekamen auch die Asiaten und Europäer davon Wind, dass ein SantoniSchuh das Non-Plus-Ultra ist.

Es kommt doch auf das Detail an 1990 übergab Andrea Santoni sowohl Manufaktur wie auch die Verantwortung für rund 500 Mitarbeiter offiziell an seinen Sohn. Übrigens ohne die Auflage, dass weiterhin konsequentes Handwerk betrieben werden muss. Doch für den Filio war die Umstellung auf maschinelle Verarbeitung niemals eine Option. Es braucht in seinen Augen Fingerspitzengefühl von handwerklichen Genies, um einen Santoni-Schuh zu fertigen. Und eine Maschine hat keine Leidenschaft.

Sie beschäftigt sich nicht mit dem Produkt. Er will keine Menschen, die etwas tun, weil sie müssen. Er will, dass jeder Schuh mit dem Streben nach Perfektion oder mit seinen Worten unter dem Prinzip «verrückt nach Details» produziert wird. Daher gilt auch der Leitsatz in seinem Unternehmen, dass jeder tut, was er am besten kann. Daher würde Giuseppe Santoni den Mitarbeitern in den Fabrikhallen auch niemals in die Arbeit reinquatschen. Hier halten nach wie vor Papa Andrea und Mamma Rosa das Zepter in der Hand.

Er ist gut. Wirklich gut. Ich würde sogar sagen, Signor Giuseppe Santoni aus dem kleinen italienischen Dörfchen Corridonia ist perfekt. Und das nicht nur, weil sein Produkt stimmt. Gut ist er, weil er genau so extravagant und exklusiv daherkommt, wie die Schuhe aus seiner Manufaktur.

Und wer eignet sich besser als Markenbotschafter als der Geschäftsführer höchstselbst. Giuseppe Santoni inszeniert sich nicht, er ist wie er ist. Er liebt das Schöne, das Teure, und er ist detailversessen. Gut ist ihm nicht gut genug, er will es anders, liebt es besser. Er ist eine Persönlichkeit, sowohl im Alltäglichen, vor allem aber im Berufsleben. Jeder in der Fashion-Branche kennt den Mann, der ausschliesslich blaue Anzüge und Schuhe trägt. Den Mann, der sich selbst seine Pyjamas massschneidern lässt und seine eigenen Schuhe als etwas bezeichnet, dass «man nicht braucht, aber unbedingt haben will.»

In den vergangenen Jahren hat er umfassend in ein Rebranding des Designs sowie in die Marketing- und Public-Relations-Arbeit investiert. Dazu ist er stets auf der Suche nach Produkt-Partnern, die mit gleicher Leidenschaft und genau demselben hohen Qualitätsanspruch fertigen wie seine Manufaktur. Fündig wurde er unter anderem bei der Schweizer Uhrenmanufaktur IWC und der Sportwagen-Marke Mercedes AMG. Mit beiden verbindet ihn mittlerweile eine schon jahrelange Partnerschaft, die gerne auch in Form limitierter Editionen ihren Ausdruck findet.

Wert legt er auch auf gute Kontakte in die Prominentenwelt. Gerne begrüsste er beispielsweise Schauspieler Sylvester Stallone persönlich, als dieser anlässlich der Promotion-Tour für den RockyRemake einen Zwischenstopp in Italien machte. Und auch George Clooney ist Stammkunde der Manufaktur und machte Werbepartner Nespresso auch gleich klar, dass er alles mache, aber nur in Santoni-Schuhen. Jedenfalls bestand der Frauenschwarm ebenso wie Drehpartner, Schauspieler Jean Dujardin, darauf, während des Drehs eines Spots SantoniSchuhe zu tragen.

Und das sind die Dinge, die Giuseppe Santoni freuen, für die er aber nicht bezahlen würde. Er weiss um die Qualität seiner Produkte und er hat ein Unternehmen am Laufen zu halten. Investitionen fliessen in Zeiten der Digitalisierung daher unter anderem auch in die Erweiterung des Vertriebs-Angebots.

Der jüngst initiierte digitale und über die Webseite nutzbare «Customizer» ist ein Ergebnis. Hier kann jeder mit wenigen Klicks das Modell Carter Doppelschnalle in seiner Lieblingsfarbe kolorieren und auf Wunsch auch die eigenen Initialen in die Schuhsohle gravieren lassen. Vier bis sechs Wochen später wird dann für etwa 790 Euro geliefert.

Es geht auch immer noch noch persönlicher Während beim Portfolio sowie der Vermarktung und Vertrieb zukunftsweisend

gedacht wird, gilt das für die Fertigung nicht. Hier wird wie bereits angesprochen traditionell produziert. Für Serienproduktionen braucht es rund 170 Arbeitsschritte. Diese verteilen sich auf 30 Stunden Arbeit und werden von 100 Paar Händen durchgeführt. Am Ende wird sogar die Farbe von Kunststudentinnen aus Mailand Pinselstrich für Pinselstrich aufgetragen. Wer noch mehr will, ordert einen «BeSpoke»-Treter und erhält in der Preisklasse eines Kleinwagens ein handgemachtes Paar. Dafür hat ihm aber auch

Antoni in seiner kleinen Ecke im Lager einen eigenen Leisten gehobelt, Sauro das Leder per Hand geschnitten und Luigi mit 600 Stichen den Schuh vernäht.

He is good. Really good. I would even say that Signor Giuseppe Santoni from Corridonia, a small Italian village, is perfect.

Not only because his product is perfect.

He is good because he comes across as extravagant and exclusive as the shoes made by his company. And who can be a better brand ambassador than the managing director himself? Giuseppe Santoni does not act a role; he simply is himself.

He loves beautiful, expensive things and is very crazy about detail. Good is not good enough for him; he wants it to be

different and better. He is a personality, in everyday life and all the more in his profession. Everyone in the fashion industry knows the man who exclusively wears blue suits and shoes. The man who even has his pyjamas made to measure and describes his own shoes as something «you don’t need but must have.»

Giuseppe Santoni does not like the mass. And enviers might throw in that with his body height he would be swallowed up in it. But no matter what

drives this man from Central Italy, he loves it exotic and chic. According to his own statement, saving is not his cup of tea. But he only spends money if the offer is worthwhile. Rarity, quality and passion are details that he appreciates. It is therefore not surprising that cars and watches make his heart beat faster. He has great respect for everything that boasts quality and passion.

His father Andrea was just like him; he did not want to be one among many but looked for, and found, his own way.

Signor Santoni sen. was convinced that only timeless design in combination with top quality would sell in the long run. Especially in times when mass-produced glued shoes from Asia flooded the market. Andrea Santoni was also aware that there were enough shoemakers, both good and bad, who were up to their tricks in his home country Italy. That is why he flew to America in the mid-1970’s with the first shoe collection hand-made by him and his wife in their living room and absolutely outstanding in terms of quality. And his plan worked. The American connoisseurs practically tore the elegant Italian shoes out of his hands. The Asians and Europeans also gradually became aware that a Santoni pair of shoes is the ne plus ultra.

Detail is what counts In 1990, Andrea Santoni officially handed over the factory and the responsibility for about 500 employees to his son. By the way, without the requirement to continue to pursue uncompromising craftsmanship in the future. But a change to automated production was never an option for his son. In his opinion, you’ve got to have the right feel of a genius craftsman for making a Santoni shoe. And a machine has no passion. It does not concern itself with the product. He does not want people to do something because they have to. He wants each shoe to be made in pursuit of perfection or, to use his words, under the «crazy about detail» motto. This guiding principle that everyone does what he can do best is therefore applicable throughout his company.

Giuseppe Santoni would never meddle in the work of the employees in the factory halls. «This is where Dad Andrea and Mum Rosa still have the say.»

Giuseppe Santoni instead concentrates on the development of new models, the marketing and presentation of the brand. In recent years, he made comprehensive investments in a re-branding of

the design, in marketing and public relations work. He continuously seeks product partners who manufacture with the same passion and the same high quality standards as practiced in his factory.

He found that, for example, at the Swiss watch manufacturer IWC and the sports car brand Mercedes AMG. He has had partner-like relations with both of them for many years and this has often resulted in limited editions.

He also attaches great importance to good contacts with the VIP world. He enjoyed welcoming the actor Sylvester Stallone in person when he made a stopover in Italy on his promotion tour for the Rocky remake. George Clooney is also a regular customer of Santoni and he immediately made it clear to his advertising partner Nespresso that he would do anything but only in Santoni shoes. The hearthrob and his cast colleague, actor Jean Dujardin, insisted on wearing Santoni shoes during the shooting of a spot.

And those are the things that make Giuseppe Santoni happy but for which he would never pay. He knows about the quality of his products and he has a company to run. In times of digitalisation, investments are therefore made for example in the expansion of the sales channels. The recently initiated digital ‘customizer’ that can be used on the website is one of the results. It allows the customers to give the Carter double buckle model their favourite colour with just a few clicks and to have their own initials engraved in the sole of the shoes if desired. They will then be delivered four to six weeks later at a price of approximately EUR 790.00.

There is always a way to make it even more personal.

Whereas future-oriented thinking applies to the product portfolio marketing and sales, that is not the case for the manufacture. As already mentioned, the production remains traditional. Series production requires about 170 work steps that require 30 hours of work

done by 100 pairs of hands. Finally, female art students from Milan apply the die brushstroke by brushstroke. Those who want even more order a pair of hand-made bespoke shoes in the price range of a small car. However, for that, Antoni will have planed an individual shoe last in his small corner in the warehouse, Sauro will have cut the leather by hand and Luigi will have sewn the shoe with 600 stitches.

It can therefore be truly said that much personality has gone into such shoes. In a figurative sense of course. Because Santoni is a lifestyle and not simply a brand.

Wie immer wählte sie schlichte Linien und raffinierte Details, die für eine schlanke Silhouette sorgen. Farblich bewegen sich die neuesten Stücke im Blau- wie auch Grünbereich. Weiss und Schwarz setzen zudem Akzente. Und wie immer wurden natürlich nur die besten Materialien verwendet. Kaschmir dominiert, aber auch

Seide sowie Woll- und Baumwollmischungen garantieren ein angenehmes Tragegefühl.

Weltweite Präsenz als Erfolgsgarant Amina Rubinacci selber ist heute Mitte 70 und immer noch im Unternehmen aktiv. Unterstützt wird sie von ihren vier Kindern, die alle der Mutter in die Modewelt gefolgt sind. Mit ihrer Hilfe konnte in den letzten Jahren sowohl die Produktion wie auch das Vertriebsnetz ausgebaut werden. Etwas, was aufgrund der grossen Nachfrage ein richtiger und wichtiger Schritt war. Erhältlich sind die Produkte von Amina Rubinacci heute weltweit in sechzehn eigenen Boutiquen. Eine davon befindet sich in Zürich in der Klosbachstrasse 4. Die Idee zum Interieur Design stammt dabei ebenfalls aus Aminas Feder und basiert auf den Kindheitserinnerungen der Italienerin. Denn ihr Vater war ebenfalls Schneider und hatte einen eigenen Laden besessen, in dem sie als kleines Mädchen viele Stunden verbrachte. Aus diesen Erinnerungen ist das einzigartige Shop-Konzept gewachsen, das wie auch die Mode selbst schnörkellos und klar ist. 

Er ist der Mann hinter dem bekannten «NAP-Stuhl» und sein Namen ist bereits fest verankert in der Welt des Möbeldesigns. Die Tatsache, dass das renommierte Unternehmen «Fritz Hansen» vor langer Zeit auf ihn zukam und nicht umgekehrt, gehört noch immer zu den Höhepunkten seines Lebens.

den Wunsch erzeugt, ein Produkt zu gestalten, das produziert und natürlich gebraucht werden kann.

Obwohl Du auch Lampen, Sofas oder Tische entwickelt hast, scheint es mir, dass Du eine besondere Affinität zu Stühlen hast?

Stühle haben mich immer besonders fasziniert aufgrund der menschlichen Statur und der vielen Anforderungen, die ein Stuhl erfüllen sollte. Im Vergleich zu einem Tisch gibt es sehr viele Möglichkeiten, um einen Stuhl zu formen. Die Herausforderung ist, eine Kombination von Ergonomie, Stärke, aber auch Leichtigkeit unter einen Hut zu bringen.

Was war Dein erster selbst gekaufter Stuhl?

Ich habe in meinem Leben nur zwei Stühle gekauft. Der erste war «La Fonda Chair» von Charles Eames in 1990 und der zweite war der «Landi Stuhl» von Hans Coray.

Und Dein erster selbst entworfener Stuhl?

Das war der «Alfa Chair» im Jahr 1994.

Dein Lieblingsstuhl?

Ich habe viele Lieblingsstühle, aber im Moment steht der «Thonet Nr.14» ganz oben auf der Liste. Es ist in der Tat einer der einfachsten Holzstühle, die zugleich bequem sind.

Gibt es nicht genügend Stühle auf der Welt?

Ja sicherlich, aber gibt es nicht auch genügend Autos, Lampen oder auch Musikrichtungen? Es wäre doch langweilig, wenn es von allem nur eine Version geben würde ... 

The Man and his chairs Kasper Salto Kasper Salto is fond of chairs despite a diverse choice of lights, sofas and tables.

Although you have also designed lights, sofas and tables, it seems to me that you are very fond of chairs.

Chairs have always fascinated me most because of the human stature and the many requirements that a chair should fulfil.

Compared to a table, there are very many possibilties for shaping a chair. The challenge is to achieve the right combination of ergonomics, strength and lightness.

What was your first chair that you purchased yourself?

I have only bought two chairs in my entire life. The first was the «La Fonda Chair» by Charles Eames in 1990 and the second was the «Landi Chair» by Hans Coray.

And what was the first chair you designed?

That was the «Alfa Chair» in 1994.

What is your favourite chair?

I have many favourite chairs, but «Thonet No. 14» is currently at the top of the list. It is indeed one of the plainest wooden chairs that is also comfortable.

Are there not enough chairs in the world?

Yes there are, but are there not also enough cars, lights or styles of music? It would after all be boring if there was only one version of everything ... 

He is the man behind the well-known ‘NAP Chair’ and his name is well established in the world of furniture design. The fact that the renowned «Fritz Hansen» company approached him a long time ago and not the other way round is still one of the highlights of his life. Salto‘s design is based on a thoroughness causing the wish to design a product that can be produced and of course be used.

This ambition for the human need made Salto create chairs that please both the physical need and our aesthetic sense. My Lux Book interviewed the Danish designer about chairs.

Schwierige Verhandlungen – ab wann ist das «schwierig» berechtigt?

Jeder definiert schwierig für sich anders. Aber man kann sagen, dass es immer dann schwierig wird, wenn man von der Gegenseite mehr Kooperation erwartet, als geleistet wird. Mit meinen zwanzig Jahren Erfahrung sehe ich die Situation mit der notwendigen Distanz an und erkenne recht schnell bestimmte Cluster.

Sprich: Ich weiss recht schnell, wo wird es scheitern und wo sind noch Optionen.

Gibt es bestimmte Verhandlungscharaktere?

Wir unterscheiden den rationalen und den spielerischen Verhandler. Beim ersten basiert die Forderung auf Kausalität. Ich habe einen guten Job gemacht, ich will mehr Geld. Der Spielerische stellt Forderungen, um zu testen, was möglich ist. Er tritt in der Regel als harter Verhandler auf, der keine Kooperation zeigt.

Innerlich ist der ganze Prozess aber nur ein Spiel für ihn.

Hat die Digitalisierung zu mehr Verhandlungen geführt?

Der eigentliche Machtkampf muss immer noch am Tisch stattfinden. Man muss sich in die Augen schauen. Aber Vor- wie auch Nachbereitung passieren heute in der digitalen Welt.

Das A und O beim Verhandeln ist …

Locker bleiben. Wir sprechen hier von der eigenen «Sandbox».

Man sollte nie sofort reagieren und sich auch nicht auf das Spielfeld beziehungsweise den Sandkasten des anderen begeben.

Sie bieten auch Konferenzen an – was kann ich lernen, warum sollte ich dabei sein?

Hier kommen die besten Verhandlungsführer der Welt zusammen: Scotland Yard, das FBI und auch ehemalige Aussenminister. Es erwarten Sie also keine Studien und Theorien, sondern fundiertes Praxiswissen. Neben dem Input ist natürlich der Erfahrungsaustausch ein wichtiger Punkt. Meine Verhandlungsseminare finden seit vielen Jahren im Park Hyatt Zürich statt – uns verbindet eine strategische und langjährige Partnerschaft.

Sie haben bis zu ihrem 36sten Lebensjahr als Polizist gearbeitet – unterscheiden sich die Verhandlungen damals und heute?

Nein. Es sind immer die gleichen Mechanismen. Jemand kommt und will etwas haben, was man nicht hergeben will. Man wird emotional und macht Fehler. Daher ist es so wichtig, sich nicht auf das Spiel des anderen einzulassen und nicht sofort zu reagieren, sondern erst einmal nachzudenken.

Und abschliessend: Über was verhandelt Matthias Schranner privat?

Ich habe eine Frau, vier Kinder und einen Hund. Da gehört Verhandeln zur Tagesordnung. Und ich muss sagen, Kinder sind einfach die besten Verhandlungsführer. Sie denken nicht nach, sondern fordern einfach. Wir Erwachsenen machen uns bereits vor der eigentlichen Verhandlung tausend Gedanken und treten erst in den Dialog, wenn wir bereits zu einer Lösung gekommen sind. �

Matthias Schranner has worked as a police officer, an undercover agent for the drug squad and a negotiator for kidnappers and hostage takers. 13 years ago, he also set up his own business, the Schranner Negotiation Institute. Today this business is a worldwide leading consultancy firm with a team made up of 42 experts offering support in difficult negotiations on both a business and political level.

Why does someone call Schranner Negotiation Institute to the negotiating table as an external party?

Matthias Schranner: We intervene when both parties have reached a deadlock, or when in they feel negotiations have broken down. We focus on consultancy for the business sector, i.e. global corporations, and politics.

Difficult negotiations – from what point is the word «difficult» justified?

Everyone defines the term difficult differently. But generally you can say that a situation becomes difficult when you expect more cooperation from the opposite side than you receive. I can view a situation from the required distance thanks to my twenty years experience and can quickly recognize certain clusters.

In other words: I am immediately aware of where the situation could fail and where the options lie.

Are there certain negotiation characters?

We differentiate between the rational and the playful negotiator. The first bases their demands on causality. I did a good job, I want more money. The playful negotiator places demands to test what is possible. In general they appear as the harder negotiator, who shows no cooperation skills. However, on the inside the entire process is only a game for the negotiator.

And finally: What issues does Matthias Schranner negotiate in his private life?

I have a wife, four children and a dog. Negotiations are the order of the day. And I have to say children are simply the best negotiators. They don’t think about it, they simply demand. We adults think through a thousand scenarios before the actual negotiation and enter into dialogue when we have already formed a solution. 

Matthias Schranner studied law in Munich and subsequently worked for the police as an undercover agent and negotiator.

In 2005 he founded the Schranner Negotiation Institute in Zurich and provides consultation services to companies as well as politicians in difficult negotiations. He now runs a team with 42 members and the Institute has offices in Zurich, New York City and Hong Kong. www.schranner.com

Has digitalisation led to more negotiations?

The actual power struggle still has to take place at the table. You still have to look each other in the eye. But the preparation and follow-up happen today in the digital world.

The main issue when negotiating is …

To stay relaxed. We are talking about your own «Sandbox». One should never react immediately and never go to the other’s playing field or sandbox.

You also stage conferences – what can I learn, why should I take part?

The best negotiators from across the globe meet at these conferences: Scotland Yard, the FBI and even former Secretaries of State. The focus is therefore not on studies and theories but on practical knowledge. The exchange of experience is of course an important point in addition to input. I have now been holding my negotiation seminars at Park Hyatt Zurich for a number of years – we share a strategic and long-standing partnership.

You worked as a policeman until you were 36 years old – have negotiations changed between that time and today?

No. There is always the same mechanism in place. Someone arrives and wants something that the other party is not willing to give. The parties become emotional and make mistakes.

Therefore it is extremely important not to get involved in the other party’s game and not to react immediately, but to first reconsider.

Wenn Elliot Graff darüber spricht, wie sein Onkel Laurence Graff nach dem perfekten Edelstein sucht, dann scheint sich das genau so abzuspielen. «Er hat eine aussergewöhnliche Fähigkeit, einem wichtigen Stein die nötige Zeit und Aufmerksamkeit zu geben», so der im Familienbetrieb Graff als Operations Director angestellte Eliott. «Wenn du ihn beobachtest, kannst du oftmals sehen, wie er sich in einen Stein verliebt.»

And the Design Team then also takes the necessary time to study the stone down to the last detail, to be able to guarantee its perfect appearance. His motto: «keep it simple.»

What do you have on your nighttable?

1. last year my biography «life is a circus» was published. i enjoy looking at the photographs and reading some of the quotes; it always makes me smile.

2. my montblanc pen sits next to a red notebook, always ready for when i awake in the night with inspirational thoughts!

3. The gift of time, a clock. A couple of years ago I was invited to shanghai to speak at a seminar for 1000 guests. the subject of the weekend was weddings. as i had just recently cooked for HrH prince william and kate middleton’s wedding, they wanted me to focus on royal events and, to thank me the organisers kindly gave me this clock.

4. Ever since the very first mobile phone, which was the size, shape and weight of a brick about 25 years ago i have always carried my phone with me so that i can be contacted 24-hours a day.

Maritime‘s legacy Last year Breguet presented their legendary Marine line in a new design.

The company, founded in 1775, has now extended the collection with three inspired timepieces in white or rose gold respectively and for the first time also in titanium.

Many inventions in the watchmaker world can be traced back to one name: Abraham-Louis Breguet. In 1815 due to his exceptional talent he was awarded the highest distinction in the branch at the time, official «Watchmaker for the Royal Navy», by the French King Louis XVIII. Always committed to the Navy and innovations, the Marine line reflects the history of the company in the present day.

New generation, new look Last year Breguet showcased the new modern, dynamic look of the Marine line for the first time with the masterpiece «Marine Équation Marchante 5887», a watch with the equation of time. In 2018 the watch manufacturer is extending the collection with the three hand watch «Marine 5517» and the «Marine Alarme Musicale 5547» with its three complications alarm function, two time zones and date display. Both models have a diameter of 40 millimetres and are available in white or rose gold as well as in titanium.

Sporty Highlight The highlight of the new creations is without a doubt the «Marine Chronographe 5527», also in the new aesthetic design and with a diameter of 42.3 mm. The information on time measurement is depicted on the dial in different windows: The minutes at 3 o’clock, the hours at 6 o’clock, the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the date display between 4 and 5 o’clock. The chrono­ graph comes in white or rose gold with wavelike guilloche dials or in a titanium version. Breguet alternatively offers all three models with a leather or rubber strap. 

Es begann alles mit Scheich Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoums Vision einer Stadt der Superlative. In nur wenigen Jahren gelingt es dem Herrscher von Dubai, aus dem einstigen Fischerdorf eine der modernsten Metropolen der Welt zu schaffen. Eine Stadt, in der es als wirtschaftliches, politisches und kulturelles Zentrum des Emirates und mit 14 Millionen ausländischen Touristen jährlich sprichwörtlich immer aufwärts geht.

It all began with Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum‘s vision of a city of superlatives. The monarch of Dubai has managed in just a few years to create one of the most modern metropolises in the world from what was once a fishing village. The city is the economic, political and cultural centre of the Emirates and with 14 million foreign tourists a year Dubai is literally constantly on the rise.

Der jahrzehntelange Bauboom hat dafür gesorgt, dass in Dubai mehr der gigantischen Wolkenkratzer mit über 300 Meter Höhe den Himmel küssen als irgendwo sonst auf der Welt. Mit dem Burj Khalifa steht in Dubai zudem das höchste Gebäude überhaupt. Beeindruckende 828 Meter ragt es in die Luft. Die Baukosten fielen entsprechend üppig aus, sie werden auf 1,5 Milliarden US-Dollar geschätzt. Für den Scheich ist es ein «Symbol von Stolz für alle Araber».

The decade-long construction boom in Dubai ensured that more gigantic skyscrapers over 300 metres high kiss the sky than anywhere else in the world. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is, by the way, the highest building in existence. The tower rises 828 metres into the sky. The construction costs were proportionately exuberant; they are estimated at 1.5 billion US dollars.

The sheik views it as a «Symbol of pride for all Arabs».

Trotz seiner faszinierenden Skyline mit ihren futuristischen Bauwerken und den zahlreichen ShoppingMalls hat Dubai seinen einstigen orientalischen Zauber nicht verloren. Man findet ihn auf den alten Dhaus, die über den Ozean schaukeln, im Farbenparadies auf dem Gewürzmarkt und an all den leuchtenden Ständen, an denen pures Gold angeboten wird. Denn wer sich der weiten arabischen Wüste einmal hingegeben hat, wird diesen Zauber nie vergessen. 

Despite its fascinating skyline with its futuristic buildings and numerous shopping malls, Dubai has not lost its former Oriental magic. It can be sensed on the old Dhaus that sway on the ocean, in the colorful paradise at the spice market and at all the gleaming stands selling pure gold. Das Dachbad mit spektakulärem Blick über Zürich.

Das Zürcher Badejuwel Dass Zürich erst spät zu seinem Thermalbad kam, lag nicht am Fehlen von Quellen, sondern daran, dass Zwingli im Zuge der Reformation das Thermalbaden abgelehnt hatte. Dafür gehört das heutige Thermalbad in der ehemaligen Hürlimann-Brauerei zu einem der schönsten der Schweiz.

Mystische alte Gemäuer und modernste Architektur – im Zürcher Thermalbad & Spa trifft Tradition auf Moderne wie kaum anderswo. Gebadet wird in den hundertjährigen Gewölbekellern in riesigen Holzbottichen, die auf die Geschichte des Gebäudes als Brauerei verweisen. Zurich’s bathing jewel We cannot blame a lack of sources for the fact that Zurich was so late in getting its thermal bath, rather that Zwingli banned thermal bathing in the course of the reformation. The advantage is that today the thermal bath in the former Hürlimann brewery ranks as one of the most beautiful in Switzerland.
