A Spring Wrapup The Spring semester was very productive for the Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Kappa. With the new officers in place, we were able to get down to business quickly. Senior Adrienne Prentice was crowned Delta Queen at Delta Tau Delta’s annual philanthropy contest. This coveted award landed Prentice a spot on the Delt’s Composite. Under the direction of Activities Chair Kelsey Schenck ’16, Beta Theta started practicing for Greek Week early. Our LipSync was titled “I put a Spell on You,” and we took second place with our fantasy themed dance. Overall, we placed fourth in Greek Week. At the All greek Awards, Sigma Kappa Beta Theta won the Member Education Award and the Alunmi Programs Award. Emily Kennedy ’13, was awarded the living the ritual award. The semester wrapped up with our sping formal on the Valley Gem and a week to honor our seniors. On Thursday, April 25, 2013, 17 seniors became alumnae through the Order of the Triangle. As 17 members graduated to enter the real world, many current members are holding internships this summer. All officers are planning for an exciting fall semester.

Kappas gone Entrepenurial Since their time at Marietta College, many women have started their own businesses. Be a Part of the Legacy! Sigma Kappa Beta Theta alumna and chapter President (’08), Rachel Mecklenborg invites fellow Beta Theta alumni and active members to connect with sorority sisters across generations and the nation. Throughout her sorority membership, Rachel experienced the pride members have in their respective sororities. She realized the most popular and effective way to showcase your sorority pride to the campus, community, and ultimately the world is to sport a one-of-a-kind, catchy sorority tee for those in your company to admire. Through her sorority experience and creative spirit grew Rachel's idea for Legacy Letters, an online marketplace for sorority members and alumnae to buy and sell their uniquely created and vintage sorority t-shirts. After six months of hard work, Rachel is ready to bring her idea into fruition and is proud to announce the Legacy Letters website will be ready to launch this summer. About Legacy Letters Legacy Letters offers a way for sorority women to connect over the simple sale of a t-shirt. The sellers post a photo of the shirt, set the price, and tell the t-shirt’s story. Buyers can then sort by sorority, chapter, size, color, style etc. and learn the history of their new shirt. Alumnae can now recycle traditions and share their memories with the next generation of sorority women throughout the nation. Follow Legacy Letters on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sororitylegacyletters to learn more about the company and be one of the first to find out when the website is open for business! a look at a few women who have done just that, and are making their own dreams come true through small businesses.

Sigma Kappas on Senate Leadership, Communication, and Change are all goals sought out every year by the Marietta College Student Senate. Each senate is comprised of students elected by their peers to represent to the best of their ability the student body of Marietta College. So how does this relate to Sigma Kappa? This year’s senate is turning out to be an extremely unique one, in that of the twenty-one member senate, four of the five women on senate are sisters of Sigma Kappa. Sophomores, Daley Buckwell and Caitlin Yager will be serving as senators of their class, Charlee Ottersberg will be serving as Parliamentarian to the senate, and I, Jessica Johnson will be serving as President. It is an immense honor to get elected to a position on senate, because each member of senate has the opportunity to make a direct impact on the campus of Marietta. As a member of Senate, Daley, Cailtin, Charlee, and I have the chance to grow to become a voice for our student body in administrative decisions, campus concerns, and budgetary affairs. Our values of Sigma Kappa will help to guide us as we

work to create better communication and invoke change beneficial to everyone at Marietta. Student Senate is a great tradition at Marietta, and one that has long been represented by many great sisters of Sigma Kappa. Here is to us, Sigma Kappas trying to leave our mark on Senate, like many sisters before us.

Recruitment is Just Around the Corner This past Greek Awards Sigma Kappa had the honor again to win the Member Education Award, proving two years in a row that our new members are amazing additions to our chapter and our VPNME is always hard at work to make their transition into our chapter an easy one. As summer nears however, we are looking towards the addition of new members in 2013 and all of the hard work that goes in to the recruitment process.

and the phrase 'we remember their love when they can no longer remember'. This is the third shirt we will be purchasing for recruitment, including a PR shirt that myself and our t-shirt chair, Briana Kelley, and I are working on. After they are finalized, we would like to send you images of the shirts and an offer to purchase one if you would like. We will have a shirt that we wear for the Panhellenic Picnic and PR before recruitment, a shirt for Sigma Kappachino, and the Alzheimer's shirt.

The wonderful season of Formal Recruitment is coming up quickly, and our sisters have already begun preparation for the fall. While the official dates are set for September 21st-28th, we have much to get in order before then. Our themes include Sigma Kappachino, a play on Starbucks and Sisterhood, Sail Away with Sigma K, a nautical pastel theme, Sigma Kappa's Making a Statement, classic black dresses with our favorite statement piece accessory, Philanthropy Night, and Preference Night.

I am very excited for this upcoming recruitment especially because of the opportunity we have to engage our PNM's in all 5 of our philanthropies, which we previously have not had the time to dedicate to! This has added a night to recruitment, which in turn has increased the total costs for recruitment more than we budgeted for last year. Any donations or time that you could commit to assisting myself and our sisters in the creation of a wonderful recruitment would be greatly appreciated. Adding another day has increased the recruitment budget around 20% and added more work for our sisters when it comes to decorations and food. Please consider assisting us in the creation of an even better recruitment this fall!

Philanthropy Night has been added this year by the Panhellenic Council to add a night that gives girls a more thorough understanding of the general philanthropic work we do in the Marietta community, as well as how our sorority's philanthropy is celebrated. This follows our Alzheimer's Walk on September 7th, and although we will expand on all 5 of our philanthropies that night, we will have Alzheimer's v-necks for the outfit that night. We will incorporate the elephant
