deeply proud of the spirit and dedication that makes our fair so special year after year.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors, and community members who pour their time and energy into making this event a success. Your passion and commitment are the heart and soul of our fair.

From Crib to Cow Show: Celebrating Signe Cairus, Our Fairground Heartbeat

For eighteen remarkable years, the Stanwood Camano Fairgrounds hasn't just been a place Signe Cairus visits – it's been her home away from home. Raised amidst the bustling energy of the annual fair, Signe's story is deeply interwoven with the very fabric of this community tradition. From her earliest days, the sights, sounds, and smells of the fairgrounds have been her constant companions, shaping her into the dedicated and accomplished young woman we celebrate today.

Signe's connection to the fair extends far beyond simply growing up here. She's been an active participant in the Youth Hall, eagerly entering her creations and showcasing her talents. But perhaps her most visible contribution has been in the livestock barns, where she has proudly shown her cows. Her dedication to animal husbandry, the early mornings, and the responsibility of caring for her animals have instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep respect for agriculture – values that resonate at the very core of our fair.

Beyond her personal involvement in exhibits, Signe's commitment shines through her selfless volunteer work. Year after year, she has generously given her time to help us prepare for the fair, rolling up her sleeves and tackling any task with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. Her willingness to contribute behind the scenes speaks volumes about her character and her genuine love for the fair and the community it fosters.

This year marks a significant milestone for Signe as she proudly graduates from Stanwood High School. As she embarks on this new chapter, we can't help but reflect on the incredible impact she has had on our fair family. For eighteen years, Signe has been more than just a familiar face; she has been a vital part of our collective experience, embodying the spirit of dedication, hard work, and community involvement that makes the Stanwood Camano Community Fair so special.

As Signe steps out into the world, we extend our heartfelt best wishes for success in all her future endeavors. We know that the same passion and commitment she brought to

the fairgrounds will undoubtedly guide her to great achievements. We are incredibly proud of the young woman she has become and know that the fair will always hold a special place in her heart, just as she will forever hold a special place in ours. Congratulations, Signe! We can't wait to see all the wonderful things you will accomplish.

The Heart of the Fair: Celebrating Agriculture in the Stanwood Camano Community

The Stanwood Camano Community Fair has long been a beloved tradition, bringing together residents for days of fun, food, and community spirit. While the thrilling rides and delicious fair food often grab headlines, the true heart of the fair lies in its dedication to showcasing the rich agricultural heritage of our region. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Featured Agricultural Display, a cornerstone exhibit that educates, inspires, and connects attendees with the roots of our local economy and way of life.

This year, the Featured Agricultural Display is set to reach new heights, thanks to a generous donation from Arrowhead Ranch: a brand new grain silo to house the exhibit! This impressive structure not only provides a dedicated and prominent space for the display but also serves as a visible symbol of the fair's enduring commitment to agriculture.

Last year, visitors marveled at the intricacies of chicken husbandry, learning about everything from different breeds to the vital role poultry plays in our food system. These hands-on displays allow attendees, especially younger generations, to gain a deeper appreciation for where their food comes from and the hard work involved in its production.

This year, the spotlight shifts to our vital marine industry, as the Featured Agricultural Display proudly presents shellfish. Given

our proximity to the Puget Sound, this focus is particularly relevant, highlighting the sustainable aquaculture practices that contribute significantly to our local economy and provide delicious, healthy food. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the cultivation of various shellfish, their ecological importance, and the dedicated individuals who bring these aquatic treasures to our tables.

The importance of the Featured

Agricultural Display extends far beyond mere exhibition. It serves as:

• An Educational Hub: It's a living classroom where fairgoers can learn about different agricultural sectors, sustainable practices, and the journey of food from farm to table.

• A Celebration of Local Industry: The display shines a light on the hard-working farmers, ranchers, and aquaculturists who are the backbone of our community.

• An Inspiration for Future Generations: By engaging children with live animals and interactive exhibits, the display sparks curiosity and fosters an understanding of agricultural careers.

• A Connection to Our Roots: In an increasingly urbanized world, the fair's agricultural display

Lang’s

provides a vital link to our rural heritage and the fundamental importance of food production. The new grain silo, a testament to Arrowhead Ranch's dedication to our community, ensures that the Featured Agricultural Display will continue to grow and evolve, offering even more immersive and educational experiences for years

to come. So, when you visit the Stanwood Camano Community Fair this year, be sure to make your way to the new grain silo and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of our local agriculture. It's an experience that truly embodies the spirit and values of our unique community.

Step Back in Time at Frontierland at the Stanwood Camano Community Fair

If you’ve ever wondered what life was like on the farm a hundred years ago, look no further than Frontierland at the Stanwood Camano Community Fair. Tucked into a quieter corner of the fairgrounds, Frontierland brings history to life with the sights, sounds, and even the smells of a time when horsepower came with hooves—or maybe just a few more gears.

One of the most popular attractions is the threshing demonstrations on Friday and Saturday. Visitors can watch this old-fashioned farming technique in action as teams of volunteers fire up antique equipment to separate grain from the stalk. It’s noisy, dusty, and absolutely fascinating. Kids love the action, and older generations often feel a spark of nostalgia watching the machines that once powered the harvest.

The Al Erickson Memorial

Museum is another highlight, packed with historic tools and farm equipment carefully preserved to honor the region’s agricultural roots. You’ll find everything from handcranked corn shellers and scythes to butter churns and early washing machines. It’s a walk-through timeline of rural innovation that shows just how far we’ve come—and how much we’ve learned.

And then there’s the working still—a true crowd favorite. But don’t worry, it’s not moonshine coming out of the spout. This still produces fuel for vintage tractors, showcasing how farmers of the past relied on creativity and resourcefulness to keep their machines running. The process is as captivating as the end result, and the friendly volunteers are always happy to explain how it works.

What truly brings Frontierland to life are the dedicated volunteers who make it all possible. These folks

aren’t just running equipment— they’re passionate storytellers, eager to share their knowledge and love for history. Whether it’s explaining how a thresher works, walking you through the mechanics of a vintage tractor, or demonstrating the sawmill’s careful process, they take pride in passing along the lessons and ingenuity of the past. Their excitement is contagious, and they’re always happy to answer questions, swap stories, and make sure every visitor walks away with a deeper appreciation for the hard work and creativity that built our communities.

Adding to the atmosphere is a stationary, old-time sawmill, powered by a vintage tractor. The hum of belts and the bite of the spinning blade as it slices through logs the old-fashioned way is a sight to see. It’s an impressive demonstration of how raw materials

were once processed on-site, long before chainsaws and big box stores made lumber easy to come by.

Of course, no visit to Frontierland would be complete without admiring the lineup of vintage tractors, many lovingly restored by local collectors. These machines are more than just metal—they’re rolling history, and every dent and detail tells a story.

While the Stanwood Camano Community Fair offers plenty of modern thrills—rides, concerts, and fried food galore—Frontierland and the Threshing area offer something truly special: a chance to connect with the hard-working roots of our community. Make time to visit the fair and catch the action. Don’t forget your camera—history looks good on this fair.

Stanwood is fortunate that log cabins built in the mid-1800s by local pioneer settlers have been preserved for us to see how these early settlers lived. They continue to be preserved with new roofs installed in the summer of 2024. During the Fair, you can see these cabins and blacksmith shop and talk to docents about the history of each, as well as that of the area. Again, this year, Tom Eisenberg and Richard Hanks will be telling you about the Erdahl

cabin that has tools related to logging, farming and shipping of the region saved and preserved by the Stanwood Lions Club who gathered them over the years. The goal is to provide a snapshot of the past for an entertaining and educational experience for Fair goers. We plan to have a spinning wheel demonstration as well as quilters displaying their skills.

Representatives from the Camano City Schoolhouse and Fire Hall, the Stanwood Area Historical Society, the Utsalady Ladies Aid and other history-related groups will be on hand to share stories of their specific historical interests. Information will be available by these institutions along with the schedule for the first Summer Tour of Stanwood Camano Island Historic Sites that continues through the end of September.

Remembering Nancy Olson: A Legacy of Smiles and Service

The Fair Board and countless members of the community are mourning the loss of Nancy Olson, a truly beloved former Fair Board member and loyal volunteer, who passed away on May 17th. Nancy was a familiar and cherished face at the fairgrounds for many years, always greeting everyone with her infectious smile and unwavering positive spirit.

Nancy's dedication to the Fair was profound. Her tenure on the Fair Board was marked by a deep commitment to its mission and a tireless work ethic. Beyond her official duties, she poured her heart into volunteering, contributing countless hours to ensure the success and vibrancy of every event. Whether she was helping with exhibits, assisting visitors, or simply offering a word of encouragement, Nancy's presence made a tangible difference. "Nancy was the kind of person who brightened every room she entered," shared a long-time Fair Board colleague. "She was incredibly passionate about the Fair and its role in our community. But more than that, she was just a wonderful human being. Her smile was genuine, and her kindness touched everyone she met."

Indeed, it is Nancy's perpetual smile that many will remember most vividly. It was a reflection of her generous nature and her genuine joy in serving others. She

approached every task, big or small, with enthusiasm and a willingness to help, embodying the true spirit of volunteerism.

Nancy Olson leaves behind a legacy of selfless service, unwavering loyalty, and an abundance of warmth. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, the impact of her dedication and the memory of her ever-present smile will continue to resonate throughout the Fair community for years to come. The Fair Board extends its deepest condolences to Nancy's family and friends during this difficult time. She will be

profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
