Happy Teriyaki stands out in the Stanwood area as more than just another teriyaki restaurant—it’s a place where quality, comfort, and variety come together. Unlike many fast-casual eateries, Happy Teriyaki offers full table service along with speedy takeout, giving guests the best of both worlds. Known for their award-winning teriyaki, the menu also features sizzling Korean specialties, comforting soups, and popular entrees like Mongolian beef and orange chicken.
What truly sets them apart is their sushi menu, boasting over 20 rolls, fresh nigiri, and sashimi, including a fan-favorite sashimi bowl. Using premium ingredients like USDA grade beef and fresh seafood, Happy Teriyaki delivers generous portions and consistent quality.
Since opening during the pandemic, the support from the Stanwood and Camano community has been the backbone of their success. This small family-run business
has grown into a full-service local favorite thanks to loyal customers who kept coming back.
Being named a Top 3 finalist in the Best of Stanwood is a heartfelt honor for the team, who see the recognition as a tribute to their dedication and a reminder to keep delivering their best every day. Happy Teriyaki is more than a restaurant—it’s a reflection of the community that helped build it.

Tim Carr and his wife Maria moved from Kirkland to Silvana to raise their family in a quieter, rural environment; Tim, a seasoned plumber, transferred his established business to the Stanwood-Camano area, where he continues to offer expert service and repair work.
With over 53 years in the trade and 45 years running his own company, Tim’s problem-solving ability and dedication to long-term solutions are what set his business apart.
Tim and his staff enjoy offering customers suggestions and options whenever possible so that the final installation/remodel is functional, easily serviceable, and reasonable in cost. When a new water line or drain line is needed, Tim can offer efficient ditching with his excavator and tractor.
While many know them for
garbage disposals, instant hot water appliances, hose bibbs, and yard hydrants. Their careful product selection ensures value and allows them to confidently offer a warranty on their installations.
The community has played a vital role in the company’s success. Thanks to word-of-mouth referrals and a strong reputation for honesty and dependability, the business now serves third-generation customers.
“Our clients have become like family,” Tim shares.
Being named one of the Top 3 in the Best of Stanwood is a meaningful recognition for Tim and his team.
“It shows our customers trust us,” he says. “We’re proud of our crew and honored to be part of this great community.”

When Dr. Joyce Schmidt purchased Camano Veterinary Clinic, her mission was clear: to keep the clinic local and uphold the compassionate, comprehensive pet care that the Stanwood-Camano community has come to expect. “This community means a lot to us,” says Dr. Schmidt. “We wanted to preserve a trusted place for pets to receive the care they deserve, close to home.”
Today, the clinic is proud to have four skilled veterinarians on staff, all dedicated to keeping pets healthy and happy. From routine checkups to advanced care, their team provides a full range of veterinary services in a warm, welcoming environment.
What sets Camano Veterinary Clinic apart? While the clinic has grown, it still operates with the heart and values of a family business. “We know our clients by name—and often by tail wag or purr,” says a team member. The clinic offers professional, reasonably priced veterinary
care and features trusted dog and cat boarding services. Their attentive kennel staff ensures that pets feel safe, loved, and well cared for while their families are away.
Being named in the Top 3 for Best of Stanwood-Camano is a meaningful honor. “We are so grateful to our community for this recognition,” Dr. Schmidt says. “If you’re looking for a veterinary clinic where your pet is treated like family, we invite you to visit us.”
Camano Veterinary Clinic is more than a pet clinic—it’s a caring part of the community.

Josephine Caring Community has been a pillar of Stanwood since 1908, founded through the generosity of local farmer and mill owner John Hals. Moved by the needs of his aging workers—and inspired by the memory of his late wife, Josephine—John donated $10,000 and 10 acres to establish a home for the aged. What began as the “Josephine Old Peoples Home” with 26 residents has grown into a leading provider of senior and early childhood care.
Today, Josephine is the secondlargest employer in Stanwood, with nearly 300 employees and $26 million in revenue. The organization serves 120 residents in its nursing home and rehab center, 60 in assisted living, 50 through home health, and 120 children in its childcare and early learning programs. Notably, Josephine is one of the largest providers in Washington State offering care to seniors regardless of their ability to pay and also supports
preschool education for families near the poverty line.
The support from the StanwoodCamano community has been the backbone of Josephine’s growth for over 100 years. In return, Josephine continues to support hundreds of families—employees, seniors, and children alike.
Few may realize the scale of Josephine’s impact, or that it will soon expand to include Memory Care for 21 seniors and 63 independent living homes. Being named one of the Top 3 in the “Best of Stanwood” is a meaningful honor, reaffirming the deep bond between Josephine and the community it proudly serves.

Nestled in the heart of the Stanwood-Camano area, the Grocery Outlet is more than just a place to shop—it’s a community-centered business built on a foundation of trust, value, and neighborly spirit. Owned and operated by Shayne and Mary Stoddard, proud residents of Camano Island, this locally run store has quickly become a favorite among the community, earning a well-deserved spot in the Top 3 for Best of Stanwood. So, what inspired the Stoddard’s to launch their business here? According to Shayne and Mary, it was the breathtaking scenery and the tight-knit, friendly atmosphere of the Stanwood-Camano area that drew
them in. “There’s something really special about this community,” says Mary. “People are welcoming, and there’s a strong sense of connection here. It felt like the perfect place to start something meaningful.”
That “something meaningful” has turned into a grocery store unlike any other in the region. What sets the Stanwood Grocery Outlet apart? Their unbeatable prices on namebrand products. The store consistently offers items for 40% to 70% less than what traditional grocery chains charge. It’s a shopping experience that combines affordability with quality, allowing families to stretch their grocery budgets without compromising on the brands they trust.
But it’s not just the prices that make the difference—it’s the people.
From day one, the Stanwood-Camano community has embraced the Stoddard’s and their vision. “We’ve been welcomed with open arms,” Shayne shares. “The support from our neighbors has been incredible. People have shown their loyalty, not just through their purchases, but through word-of-mouth encouragement, and returning week after week. That kind of loyalty means everything to us.”
Many may not realize that the Stanwood Grocery Outlet is entirely locally owned and operated. Shayne and Mary aren’t just business owners—they’re fellow community
members who live, work, and raise their family right here on Camano Island. Every dollar spent at their store stays in the community and helps fuel local growth.
One thing Shayne and Mary hope more people come to realize is how deeply invested they are in their neighbors’ well-being. “We’re here because we care,” says Shayne. “We’re not a big chain—we’re your neighbors, and we want to make a real difference by offering value, integrity, and a personal connection you just won’t find at a national retailer.”
Being named one of the Top 3 in the Best of Stanwood awards is more than just an accolade for the Stoddard’s—it’s a validation. “To us, it
means we’re doing something right,” Mary reflects. “It shows that our community sees the effort we put in and that they appreciate the heart behind our business. We’re honored and thankful.”
The Stoddard’s Grocery Outlet, it’s not just about saving money—it’s about building something lasting, right here at home.
